Benefit and limitation of temp table in sql server 2008

I have a datagrid in front end of asp.net . when user select a row it shows another gridview (multiple row ) where user have to put some data. when user click CLOSE button  i have to keep all data of 2nd gridview in reference with 1st gridview row id.
Same process for each row of 1st gridview. If i will keep all the record in a datatable in view state and finally save the data in database table when final save is clicked then the process may be very slow due to large data in view state. So i think to store
data in temp datable in database for each CLOSE click. For this porpose which temp table i should use
1. Local temporary tables
2. Global temporary tables
3. Normal tables.
Multiple user may do the same thing same time.  Please help me.
Thanks

>1. Local temporary tables
>2. Global temporary tables
>3. Normal tables.
When used in stored procedures, local temporary tables (#table) are automatically multi-user.
For global temp (##table) & normal tables, you need to develop your own mult-user logic.

  • Table or Object type - like #temp table in SQL Server

    Hi
I need to create a temp table to hold certain data and then validate. What is the best way to do this oracle. Something similar to #temp tables in SQL Server.
    Thanks

IN Oracle, you create the temporary table once, before you start your program. Then anyone can use that definition, but the system keeps the data isolated to eachr/session.
The difference in using Oracle: all DDL, including creating temp tables, performs commits and aquires locks that you want to avoid. It creates unnecessary serialization, causes transactional consistency issues and puts Oracle's Read Consistent model at risk (of ORA-01555 errors).
So, you (or the DBA) would "CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE ..." with the appropriate definition you want, and indicate whether you want the data deleted on commit, or on logoff.
Then you write your procedure, similar to the way you would do it in SQL Server, but you would not bracket it with creating/dropping the temp table - no need.

  • How to extract data from multiple flat files to load into corresponding tables in SQL Server 2008 R2 ?

    Hi,
I have to implement the following scenario in SSIS but don't know how to do since I never worked with SSIS before. Please help me.
I have 20 different text files in a single folder and 20 different tables corresponding to each text file in SQL Server 2008 R2 Database. I need to extract the data from each text file and
load the data into corresponding table in Sql Server Database. Please guide me in how many ways I can do this and which is the best way to implement this job.  Actually I have to automate this job. Few files are in same format(with same column names
and datatypes) where others are not.
    1. Do I need to create 20 different projects ?
                   or
Can I implement this in only one project by having 20 packages?
                 or
Can I do this in one project with only one package?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Using SSDT-BI in Visual Studio 2012 to create and maintain SSRS, SSAS, SSIS in SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi,   My management is wanting all the developers (database and .net) to upgrade from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2012.  We are currently using SQL Server 2008 R2 for our data warehouse and using Business Intelligence (SSIS,
SSAS, and SSRS) to maintain it.  Our database team is also wanting to create database projects and include that in our Team Foundation Server 2010 code repository along with our BI code.  From what I've been able to research googling the
internet is there are two products available SSDT and SSDT-BI which can be installed into VS2012, but it appears that only SSDT for database projects is the only thing that will work until we someday upgrade to SQL Server 2012.  Most of the information
I've found on the internet regarding this subject is over a year old and a lot can change in a year.  So my questions are can we install VS2012 and both SSDT and SSDT-BI to create and maintain the SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS currently in our SQL Server 2008
R2 database?  If we can install these three items, VS2012 and the two SSDTs, and are able to create new BI and maintain our current BI in our SS2008R2 database then what issues might we have with our TFS2010 code repository?  We prefer
to use only VS2012 or VS2008 but not both at the same time.  If we can't do everything we are currently doing in VS2008 with our SS2008R2 database by switching to VS2012 and the two SSDTs then we will stay with VS2008 until we someday upgrade
to SS2012.  Please advise and thank you.  James M.

I'm going to move this to the SSAS blog, where most SSDT-BI questions are answered (this forum mainly answers SSDT questions). Someone there may be able to give you better information but here's what I know:
    - I think you'll only need to install SSDT-BI since you're using SSIS, SSAS and SSRS. SSDT is the database tooling which it sounds like you wouldn't use, and it's actually built into VS2012 in any case.
    - SSIS projects don't work with earlier versions of SQL Server, but SSAS and SSRS do. Details are on
this blog post. I don't have enough knowledge to suggest workarounds or best practices for handling the SSIS issue. Perhaps you could keep 2 projects, or 2 branches of the same project (one for 2012, one for 2008) if that's possible? I think your BIDS projects
will be upgraded to SSDT-BI compatible projects so it's work checking them into source control, upgrading, then comparing to understand what's changed. You might be able to keep the same overall source and just change a few settings in the different branches?
Hopefully someone on the SSAS forum can help give you more information and suggestions.

  • CHECK for duplicate inside a cursor and pass a ouptut parameter in sql server 2008

    Hi All,
I am inserting a value into a table, Before inserting i am checking that record already exists or not in the target table, If its existsing i am making an entry into errorlog table and set the output parameter to 'errorlog' . This is inside the cursor, as
il be passing multiple values. Next is I have separate query to get the new record which is not in the target table. Using EXCEPT i get the new record and i insert into a main table. after insertion i set output as 'success'.
Here while executing the procedure i pass a duplicate value and a new value. As it is in cursor, first it will insert into errorlog and set output parameter as 'errorlog' .Next it will insert a new record into main table and set output parameter as 'Success'.
So on completion of the execution of the procedure i get output as success.
But i should get as errorlog. I should get success only on no errors in the procedure. How i can i achieve this? Please help me.

    Deepa

    Hi Deepa,
If I understand your question correctly, you would like the @Output parameter to contain the value "Success" only if all rows were successful. As soon as one row was found to be a duplicate, the value of @Output at the end of execution should be "ErrorLog".
Currently, you modify the value of @Output in each iteration of the cursor, so at the end of execution you're left with the last value.
In order to change that to work the way you want it, you need to set the value of @Output in the beginning of execution (before entering the cursor) to "Success", and as soon as there is a duplicate row, you should modify the value to "ErrorLog". This way,
if all rows are successful, the value of @Output will be "Success" at the end of execution. On the other hand, if there is even a single duplicate row, the value of @Output will be "ErrorLog" at the end of execution.
    I hope this helps...

  • How to maintain previous and record count in audit table in SQL Server 2008 r2?

    Hi Experts ,
     Situation :
in our database we are having few of stored procedures which will drop and recreates the tables and it is scheduled on weekly basis. when this job will run all the stored procedures will drop all the tables and recreate. Now we need to create one table which
will maintain history of the records.
my table structure is listed below
    TableName CurrentReocrdCount CurrentExecutionDate PreviousReordCount PreviousExurtiondate
    TEST         1000                   2014-03-30            NULL        NULL
    Test         1500                   2014-04-10            1000      2014-03-30
    Test         2000                   2014-04-11            1500      2014-04-10
How do i achive this .
    franklinsentil

You need to create audit tables for these. The table will be populated by COUNT value inside stored procedure. Each time it clears the main table and fills new data and also logs count details to audit tables. You can use COUNT(*)  to get count value
and GETDATE function to get current execution value.
    So proc will look like
    CREATE PROC procname
    @param....
    AS
    --step to drop existing table
    IF OBJECT_ID('tablename') IS NOT NULL
    DROP TABLE <table name>
    --step to fill new table
    SELECT ...
    INTO TableName
    FROM
    --Audit table fill step
    INSERT AuditTable (TableName,CurrentRecordCount,CurrentExecdate,PrevRecordCount,PrevExecDate)
    SELECT TOP 1 'TableName',(SELECT COUNT(*) FROM tableName),GETDATE(),CurrentRecordCount,CurrentExecDate
    FROM AuditTable
    ORDER BY CurrentExecDate DESC
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'TableName',(SELECT COUNT(*) FROM tableName),NULL,NULL
WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM AuditTable)
    GO

  • Group by languages in multilingual table in sql server

    Hi ,
I am having a multilingual table in SQL server 2008 , the table has two columns ID and Text
The text column has English, Chinese and other language texts.
I need a resultset grouped by the languages and count of id like
    Language   count_of_id
    English          25
    Chinese         10
    other languages 3
Is this possible? Can you please help me?

    Good day SqlServer_learn
I have a saying that I always uses: anything is possible in developing, if you have the appropriate resources (change the existing solution could be part of the way to solve...)
regarding your question, there is simple solution, but for most cases, I highly recommend to change the table structure and add a column for the culture of the text (like: en-us for english,
he-il for Hebrew and so on..).
Since you are using unicode column like nvarchar to store multi language text,
we can get the language from the text itself, as long as it include characters from that language (text which include only numbers for example we we consider as default language since it is the same in all languages).
step 1: First you need an accessory table (Named like UnicodeMapping) which include all unicode characters and the number of the char in unicode (a mapping unicode table). You can use ranges as well, but
it will be faster for the queries if you actually have all the characters, and not just range.
For example this table (I added English and Hebrew... Do the same with all the languages that you need):
create table UnicodeMapping (Charecter nchar(1), UnicodeNum int, CultureN NVARCHAR(100), CollateN NVARCHAR(100))
    GO
-- fill the table with main Hebrew characters, using a number table
insert UnicodeMapping (Charecter, UnicodeNum, CultureN, CollateN)
    select NCHAR(n), n, 'He-IL', 'Hebrew_CI_AS'
    from _ArielyAccessoriesDatabase.dbo.ArielyNumbers
    where
    n between 1488 and 1514 -- Hebrew
    or n between 64304 and 64330 -- Hebrew
    GO
-- fill the table with main English characters, using a number table
insert UnicodeMapping (Charecter, UnicodeNum, CultureN, CollateN)
    select NCHAR(n), n, 'En-US', 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS'
    from _ArielyAccessoriesDatabase.dbo.ArielyNumbers
    where
    n between 97 and 122 -- En
    or n between 65 and 90 -- En
    GO
-- Do the same with all the languages that you need, and all the UNICODE ranges for those languages
    select * from UnicodeMapping
    GO
Step 2: You can create a function which get NVARCHAR as input and return the culture as output, or work directly on the data using JOIN your table and this table.
Assuming that each row is in specific language, In order to recognize the language, you just need to check 1 character from the original string (a text character and not a number for example which might be in any language) and examine which language this
single character is, using the our UnicodeMapping.
You can check this thread to see an implementation of this idea: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/ccc1d16f-926f-46c8-8579-b2eecf661e7c/sort-miultiple-language-data-in-sql-serevr-by-collation?forum=transactsql
    * dont forget to add to the table all the characters like numbers and chose them as your default language
    * in the link above I just select the first character using LEFT, but if the text start with number for example then you will get default language. If you sure that the text must start with real language character then it is best solution, but if not, than
It is better to use a "user defined function" which will find the first character that is not in the default language. if the function do not find any char in non-default language than it return default language, else it check the language using
    the UnicodeMapping and return it.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2: which version of Visual Studio do I need to keep database projects and SSIS projects in the same solution

I need to build a solution containing a database project and an integration services project for SQL Server 2008R2.  Apparently, the subset of Visual Studio tools that comes with SQL Server 2008R2 does not include database projects and does not have
Team Foundation Server support.  Because of those limitations, I am trying to determine which version of Visual Studio will allow me to:
    1. Build a single solution that includes both a database project and an Integration Services project
    2. For the database project, be able to import a database schema from an existing SQL Server 2008 R2 database, do schema compares and update the project from the database and vice versa
    3. For the Integration Services project, be able to deploy the packages to SQL Server Integration Services on SQL Server 2008 R2 (that is, to the msdb database).
    4. Use Team Foundation Server for source control of the whole solution, including both project types.

    Hi G Britton,
To build a solution containing a database project and an integration services project for SQL Server 2008 R2 and use Team Foundation Server for source control.
You can choose to install Visual Studio 2008.
And as you want to utilize Schema compare and/or Data compare functionalities in Visual Studio, you will need to install the
Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition or Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite.
In addition, for Visual Studio issues, I would like to recommend you post the question in the
    Visual
Studio forums to get better support.

    Team Foundation Version Control
    Compare and Synchronize Database Schemas

  • Need to connect SQL Server 2008 and CR 2008 via OLE DB SQL Server Provider

I am relatively new to Crystal but have done some minor design/layout work in the past. I just purchased CR 2008 and dowloaded a Eval Copy of SQL Server 2008 to build test reports that will then be uploaded to a hosted web app we use for use with live data.
I am having some trouble, however, getting SQL server and CR 08 to talk the way I need them to. We have to use the OLE DB for SQL Server Provider connection for the reports to work in our hosted live environment but I cannot get this to work on SQL 2008. The server never appears in the Server dropdown and if I manually type it get the following error:
    failed to open connection.
    Detail ADO Error Code: 0x80004005
Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Description: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access is denied.
    SQL State: 08001
Native Error: 17 [Database Vendor Code: 17 ]
I am setting up the connection through the Database Expert choosing the OLE DB (ADO) folder and then selecting 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server' then entering my server name, user id, password, and Database name.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything twice. I have installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Service 10.0 OLEDB Provider pack.
My provider/host does use SQL Server 2005 but since I can't get a free Evaluation version of it I have to use 2008 for my local copy. I have searched the web over (including here) and cannot find an answer to my issue.
I cannot use SQL Server Express version because our copy of the DB is too big. I cannot use the Native 10 provider as the reports will not work once I have uploaded them to the live data.
any help anyone can provide for this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you and sorry if this is a dupe post. I have searched everywhere and cannot find the answer.

    Hello,
Go to Microsoft's site and download their OLE DB test tool and test the connection. Did you install the MS client tools to test the connection also?
As a test try creating an ODBC System DSN just to verify you can connect and create a report also.
And don't use the SA account, MS 2008 disabled it, sort of, so you'll have to create a new account and grant permissions to any table you need to use.
SQL 2008 changed security model big time so it's not the same as 2005 once was....
    Good luck

    1. How can I do that?
    2. If DB link is a solution then would you please provide me a step by step process to do so?
    3. Is there any issue with datatype?
SQL Server db is on windows 2008 R2
    Oracle is in RHEL 5.5
    Will appreciate ur help.

well suppose i generate flat files from sql server and load in oracle by sqlloader then will there be any issue with vbinary datatype? what should be the equivalent data type in oracle table?

  • JDBC drivers for SQL Server 2008 and PI7.0

    HI,
I have deployed the JDBC drivers (sqljdbc.jar and sqljdbc4.jar) available for the SQL Server 2008 from the microsoft website as described in the how to document for deploying and configuring JDBC and JMS adapters.
I am running a JDBC to FIle(XML) scenario. When I go and see on the RWB CC monitoring, I get this error
Error during database connection to the database URL 'jdbc:sqlserver://hostname:1433;databaseName=123_Nagasatya' using the JDBC driver 'com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver': 'com.sap.aii.adapter.jdbc.sql.DriverManagerException: Cannot establish connection to URL 'jdbc:sqlserver://hostname:1433;databaseName=123_Nagasatya': UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/microsoft/sqlserver/jdbc/SQLServerDriver (Unsupported major.minor version 50.0)'
WRT to the SQL server the port 1433  is open on the host and there is no firewall on the PI server as well as the SQL Server. Both are on different machines.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Hi Foreverduy,
Before you run SQL Server 2008 express setup, make sure that you have installed Windows installer 4.5 and.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 manually. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.100).aspx. Moreover, please turn off all the third-party softwares which could prohibit the installation process.
According to your error message, the issue could be due to that your account has no rights to install SQL Server, or the corruption on the media.
Firstly, please ensure that your account has admin rights. Also make sure that you right-click the setup.exe and choose “Run as administrator” to complete the installation.
Secondly, please check if "msdbdata.mdf" file exists at d:\8268cd7b247d294de359c9\x86\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\MSSQL.X\MSSQL\Binn\Template. If it exists, please make sure that your account has read permission to the extracted
    folder.
However, if the file doesn't exist in the extraction, the media could be corrupt. Please download the
    media
again and check if the issue still occurs.
    Regards,
    Michelle Li
