While you are waiting for an answer from the core Oracle database people, you may want to spend the time thinking about asking in the forum dealing with Berkeley DB.

  • When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue??

When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue?
I am growing impatient not being able to use cross dissolve or titles.
Its going to be a pain having to back out to OS 10.5. This is beginning to be like Windows Vista.

You don't say what "..Snow Leopard Compatibility issue.." you're having.
My titles and Dissolves - and everything else - work perfectly with iMovie HD 6 and with iMovie '09 in Snow Leopard.
Perhaps you need to revert to QuickTime 7 ..just in case you over-wrote QT 7 with Snow Leopard's own QuickTime X when you upgraded to SL.
QT7 and QT X both sit happily alongside each other in Snow Leopard ..you might want to give that a try.
But I have no problem with any aspect of iMHD6 nor iM09 (..and no trouble with "stills"..) using Snow Leopard on a "late '08" MacBook Pro.
I haven't yet installed SL (Family Pack) on my Mac Mini ..I'll let SL throw away my QT7 on that, and will see if that causes any problems with iMovie. If it does, I'll then download and re-install QT7 and see if that fixes any problems. But don't hold your breath ..I may report back tomorrow, but today I'm pretty busy! I'll do my best, though..

Has Apple acknowledged the dropped network connection issue with Snow Leopard and Macbook Pro? I've seen many posts and read several blogs with suggestions for fixing the issue, but all the fixes are temporary. The problem still persists.

  • Unable to launch several applications in Snow Leopard/ iDVD issues

I upgraded to Snow Leopard 4 days ago and am having trouble launching several applications. The list includes:
    -CuteFTP for Mac
    -Adobe CS3: illustrator, flash, InDesign
    -Cisco VPN client
I've tried selecting the "use rosetta to open" option in "get info" on the affected applications with no luck.
Additionally, while burning a DVD I was unable to switch applications when iDVD was multiplexing and writing (~ 30 minutes total.) After the disk was done, the Finder toolbar was gone, and I couldn't re-launch Finder. I had to do a hard restart.
Did I miss something during installation? This ranks with the original OSX (10.0) transition in terms of disruption.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eddie

CuteFTP hasn't had an update since June 2008. CyberDuck is free and there is a new 64 bit version in beta here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14426
Adobe said they haven't tested CS3 with SL - you can try their support forums for better info: http://forums.adobe.com/community/creativesuites/creativesuites_macintosh?view=d iscussions
Cisco VPN - There is a thread with a lot of information, and some solutions here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2131308&tstart=0&messageID=100 89199
I don't know about an iDVD problem like you had. I've been burning fine with Toast 10, although I do miss my contextual menu's. I have to launch the program first now instead of just right clicking on a file and choosing Burn with Toast. Apple removed almost all of the contextual menu's in favor of an improved 'Services' system that I never used in the past.
Leopard caused as many programs to quit working when Apple dropped support for OS9. There were hundreds of complaints. SL does change the basic structure to support 64bit apps, and seems to have caused minor problems with a wide range of programs, while other programs of the same type seem to work great.
The worst problems I'm seeing are related to HP Printer driver issues. Luckily I switched to Brother Printers a couple of years ago. Brother had their drivers ready months before SL's release date and they download as soon as you install the OS and run 'Software Update'.

  • Boot Camp - Snow Leopard MAJOR ISSUE

Ok, I'm sort of new to the Apple arena and have been running a MacPro under BootCamp with Windows XP on the other side. I set BootCamp up to run Windows priority and thus to get the Apple side I held down the Alt key at start up and selected Mac HD to go to Apple.
Furthermore, I been working on the Apple side more and more to learn FCP. So, I recently updated FCS2 to FCS3 . . AND . . while at it updated to Snow Leopard. Now comes the change and the problem.
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I had not started up Windows even once, because the boot up priority changed from Windows default to Mac default. Now perhaps that should have alarmed me but it didn't because again I am trying to get more FCP screen time to learn it and thus decided I liked that boot process and would just leave it.
Well, today I booted with the Alt key and selected Windows and sure enough Windows booted HOWEVER the mouse will move all over the screen BUT it cannot click or select anything on the screen. Also, when moving the cursor to the task bar an hour meter appears AND one can do nothing. In addition, right click does nothing and CntlAltDel does nothing, nor does Esc or any other key(s) for that matter.
I have two MAJOR pieces of work on the Windows side that I need to finish up that include over 200 man hours of work and even if I could just get it running for a matter of one day I would be fine because as I have already said, I am moving to FCP and those two are all that is left in Avid.
Any suggestions? Please anyone help. The one project could result in a major lawsuit that could cost me over 4000 + legal + the over 200 hours I have paid for already. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

OK I got it working but what a nightmare. I will outline it here for those so coming to the same threshold.
    If the above happens try:
    1. Boot and chose Win disc couple times.
    2. Boot and chose Mac disc and insert the SL and explore not install.
    3. Shut down.
    4. Boot and chose Win disc.
    5. Screen should now be operatble and the keyboard and mouse functional.
    6. The last option is Boot Camp drivers.
Don't go haywire when it uninstalls all the drivers then installs them and they are not all there. Also, I'm not sure you even have to do all this although I let it in accordance with the way it suggested it wanted and it took me forever to get it all straightened up and I'm still updating Windows and the like.
Also, IE 8.0 simply WILL NOT install nor open any more and thus no Windows Updates. Looks like my Windows/BootCamp update has been ruined by the SL update. Bummer, cuz I will now have to re-set-up the 2, XW8200's that I just disassembled to get rid of and thus I'll be back on PC/Windows . . again!! :o(

  • Ilustrator CS4+Snow Leopard Profile issues

Seems like something is not working in Cs4 Illustrator with Snow Leopard. Can someone give it a try to verify.
When I print to my Epson 3800 from Illust. It's not matching the same image printed via PS Cs4. ( It should if you follow a controlled workflow--which I do)
At first thought it was a color management issue, but everything is synchronized via Bridge, and I am using the same print settings, paper profiles , etc in both apps.
I then tried saving as a pdf in Illustrator. Same thing is occuring. Seems like the profile is not "sticking".
I did not have this issue before Snow Leopard.
If I open the Illustrator created PDF via Photoshop, then everything is ok....what is happening?
( have the newest drivers from Epson)
    Norbert

    No advice?
I have resorted to saving as eps from Illustrator and then creating a PDF from the eps using distiller. Then the profile for images seem to be recognized. Otherwise if I save as pdf directly from Illustrator to pdf, images are too overexposed--as are colors too light. (same issue occurs if directly printing via Illust,)

  • Snow Leopard - Latency issues when waking from sleep

I own two macs ('09 mini and unibody macbook), both of which connect wirelessly to an airport extreme N router. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I have been dealing with terrible latency issues when the computers wake from sleep. Ping times from local servers increase from around 23ms to 220ms and webpages load slowly. A quick reboot solves the issue. Connecting directly to the airport extreme with a patch cable also solves the latency issue so I know it's just with wireless.
Has anyone else experienced this problem since upgrading and, if so, what are you doing to solve the issue?

I use Ethernet so I cannot comment but have you tried trashing the airport pref.plist and removed the preferred networks in the network set up in System Preferences and then set up the wifi connection again?
This seems to help with a lot of airport problems on this forum.

  • Anyone using Logic 8 with 10.6 Snow Leopard ? issues ?

Using Logic 8 with 10.6, I'm aware there is an issue quitting Logic without first closing the current project.
Are there any other issues? any performance boost/ benefit?
I'm running an 06 Macbook Pro 17" 2 Gb Ram 10.5.8 currently and considering an upgrade to 10.6
Audio units I use: Revalver MKIII and Amplitube

    (blushes embarrassedly)
No, my coffee was still too hot...
There are quite a few issues running L8 and L9 with Snow Leopard. My (and also from some of the pro's here) standard answer is hold off Snow Leopard until it has stabilized a bit more. Try to wait until 10.6.4 or 5 at least. Leopard only became reasonably stable with L8 at version 10.5.4, 0-3 were problematic.
Just check this forum for user reports when SL gets updated.
Since SL was released, the number of Q's on this forum seems to have more than doubled. That is strong circumstancial evidence for SL-Logic stability/reliability problems. It may be the price to pay for the price we pay.

  • Need help with Snow Leopard compatibility issue

We have a new iMac in (with Snow Leopard) and have loaded all our programs. Due to budgets, we have not made the jump to CS4 and are still on CS3 (waiting for 5). We work in an InDesign/InCopy workflow.
In launching InDesign on the MAc with Snow Leopard, we have noticed that the assignment folders are nonexistant and within the program you can't even open an assignment window. When you reopen on a system without Snow Leopard, the individual assignments are there, but the program states it can't find the main assignment, so it's cancelling out the assignments if opened on the Snow Leopard unit.
Does anyone have any info on compatibility issues with Indesign CS3 and Snow Leopard? My tech guy found nothing on this before we ordered the new system.

First things first. CS5 was announced today and preorders are being accepted.
I believe if you upgrade to CS4 you'll get a free copy of CS5. This is important because if you're upgrading a suite, tiered pricing makes CS3 to CS4 $200 less than waiting til CS5 comes out.
That out of the way, is everyone fully patched to CS3 5.0.4? Is Snow Leopard fully updated to 10.6.3? Do you have full read/write permission on the server?

  • Mac Book RAM & Snow Leopard Upgrade Issues

My daughter in law upgraded her MacBook memory to 2 GB and installed Snow Leopard.  She has iPhoto 2008.  Since the upgrade, any movies imported into iPhoto will not play in iPhoto as they had before.  Also, since these changes, any videos she's downloaded have a "jerky" or hesitating transition between frames so people or animal movements are not smooth.
Any thoughts as to what might be wrong and how I can fix these problems?

[Try what is suggested here|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440?viewlocale=en_US]. No luck? Then I would try installing Sno over whatever is there as if doing an upgrade install.

  • MacBook Pro - Snow Leopard Upgrade issue

Just installed Snow Leopard on a 2.53GHz MacBook Pro (summer '09). The machine continues the pinwheel at bootup forever, never actually doing anything. No error, no freezing….just endless.
Any ideas of what this could be?

Basically, I went from 10.5.8 for a friend, installed Snow Leopard on his MBP, and during reboot it just gets stuck.
    Repaired Permissions
    Repaired Disk
    Reset SMC
    Re-installed Snow Leopard.
Now unsure what to do. Couldn't do an install of Leopard 10.5 except the Erase or Archive. The archive wouldn't allow me to check "Preserve users".
Does that mean I will erase all his data like documents, etc? Either way, I'd rather not have to cross that road. There must be a reason it is just sitting there. I walked a mile to grab a pack of smokes, came back and it was still just spinning endlessly, failing to boot I suppose.

  • Lion to Snow Leopard Networking issue

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, I can't seem to be able to connect back to my other mac that is running Snow Leopard. When I select it in finder, and enter my credentials in "connect as" it responds with a connection failed. I know the credentials are correct as I log on to the other mac with it. I also tried to connect as Guest but it did not work either.
Sharing is turned on on the other mac, including the printer but I can no longer access it.
Ironically, I can connect to my WIndows XP machine which is on the same home network!
    Any advice would be welcome.
    Charles D.

OK, this is not "downgrade", this is new installation into new partition. Downgrade would mean that you started Snow Leopard and it reverts everything from Lion to Snow Leopard leaving intact all (or majority) installed applications, settings etc.

  • TLS and Snow Leopard server issues

I have a customer with Snow Leopard server running mail services. A few clients cannot email them due to what we think is a TLS related issue. Their host has TLS enabled for the mail server and they receive the below error message when sending to my customer:
15:27:41.044 3 SMTP-406902(domain.com) failed to establish a secure connection with [xx.xx.xx.xx]:25. Error Code=X509: signature algorithms do not match.
The host that cannot send seems to think it's a Postfix configuration issue but I don't know where to begin. It's not a firewall issue as we've tried that with no success.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are in the Leopard Server section, better to direct your question to the +Snow Leopard+ Section.

  • Snow leopard upgrade issue

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard a safari window opens intermittently on its own which is blank but has an address of http://googleads......... does anyone else encounter this?
This is the full address that comes up in the blank window!

Personally I use Firefox, precisely because I have more control over cookies.
Sounds like Safari is dialling out in response to that tracking cookie, but handling it wrong and opening a new window. There have been a number of similar threads recently.
The cookie appears to be a persistent one; here's a reply to another thread on the subject.
First thing to try is to block Flash Cookies (Locally Stored Objects). In System Preferences / Other / Flash Player, check the option to "block all sites..."
Then hit the Delete All button. (Have a look first under the settings button if you wish)
    That will take care of one kind of persistent cookie, but you should also read these articles;
    http://ashkansoltani.org/docs/respawn_redux.html
    http://samy.pl/evercookie/
I would also recommend Little Snitch, which will allow you to block Safari and other apps from contacting those sites.
