Best CD cover design tool

Of course,this question is bound to be in the wrong place but I appreaciate any feedback you guys can give me.
Im looking for a good all round easy to use cd case designer.The price doesn't really matter ,as long as its comprehensive enough to create professional looking cd covers.At the moment I use a programme thats not compatable with OSX, only windows.So when I make the swich from PC to Mac I need something to replace what im currently using.I dont fancy running bootcamp.

Why don't you just measure the cd? I have been using 12cmx12cm for the front cover and it worked fine.

If you can soon upload your own playlist cover, it would be a great thing to use a lot of editing tools to make the best cover but not everyone knows how to do it. So, Spotify should create a Playlist Cover Designer app that helps people easily create playlists covers like a pro with Spotify helping them get alot of backgrounds, fonts and editing features that would make it unique without even getting the problem of copyright infringement (if you use a photo that is not yours) and it's free! This feature is a much need because some people might use the basic Paint app on windows that might make Spotify playlists look like ... (you know what it looks like when you edit on paint, I can't explain). The simple playlists covers edited through Paint and uploaded to Spotify might make Spotify's quality down.

Spotify is making a SOCIAL music streaming platform. This idea is about making a playlist cover designer app that helps people make their playlists look better and have more followers. If the idea of Customizing the playlist covers is implemented, this is a good thing because EVERYONE will have the ability to design their own playlists easily, not boring and not time consuming. I hope you understand that not everyone is capable of editing this stuff like a pro. Spotify is all about playlists, because, you know that the radio function doesn't work well. If you open Spotify, it will show you Browse filled with PLAYLISTS. What if there are some people who wants to share their Playlists and the quality of their playlists are better than Spotify, and they can't get exposure because of their boring covers? It can be another product but it will be what people will see as the BIG DIFFERENCE between competitors. Acrobat 9 or Designer 8.2 Which of the two is best program to design a form in.

I have some questions that I would like explained to me (by you long time users)
I have acrobat 9 and designder 8.2.1
1. Which of the two is best program to design a form in.
2. What is the differance between the two in designing a form.(advantages / disadvantages)
3. If I have a word .doc form that I want to make into a pdf, which program is best to open it in to work on, Adobe 9 or designer.
4. If I create a form in Adobe 9 or designer can I open it in either after saving it to continue working on.

I think this is a matter of opinion. The drawback of using Designer is that you can no longer edit in Acrobat at all. Those of us that learned in Acrobat, often favor the Acrobat route. In Designer you can import WORD forms and that might be useful at times; however, you can not edit it in Acrobat. Indeed, you can still open the form made in either using Reader or Acrobat. If you want backward compatibility, you need to be careful about saving it as such and not adding capabilities that are new with AA9. Those capabilities will be lost with earlier versions.
The best way is to try it both ways and see what you think. When you buy Acrobat, Designer is part of the package. Thus you have the choice and can try both. Make a sample PDF for creating a form and then make 2 copies. You might even start out with a WORD form. Discover the pros and cons yourself. I have never felt the need to go to Designer and it seems that a lot of folks go there only because that is where the forms menu sends them, not realizing they could have used the TOOLS in Acrobat.

How to use SOA Suite in conjunction with SOA Analysis and Design Tools

I am a novice in this field and I need some help regarding integrating analysis and design tools with SOA Suite.
We used to analyze and design with Oracle Designer and use its powerful form generator to develop a system. It almost covered all the software lifecycle and kept the traceability between anlaysis,design and implementation.
I have studied about the SOA concepts and read some papaer about SOA Suite. I have also installed the SOA demo based on SOA Suite and I found it absolutely amazing, but my problem is that It seems oracle does not have any tools for SOA Analysis and Design. am I right? if so, How can we analyze and design a system based on SOA concepts and implement it using soa suite in such a way that keeps traceability? What tools is used for this purpose?
It seems that IBM have some tools like Rational Software Architect and Rational Suite which enable people to design and analyze based on SOA concepts and then generates some pieces of code (like oracle designer in old days) but is it possible to design in these tools and then generating codes for SOA Suite ? (for example generating a bpel file from a design model)
As I told before I am a novice in this field and I would be so grateful if other users can share their expriences regarding this matter.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Can Flex make a Design Tool with a quality output file?

Hi there,
I have a team of developers working on a web-based design tool for a large-format print shop. They built the prototype on a Flex platform and used ImageMagick to handle text and image effects.
Unfortunately, ImageMagick cannot produce the quality of output file we need for our products (prints up to 3 ft by 6 ft / 1m x 2m). It rasterizes all of the design objects, including text and vector clipart.
Is it possible for Flex to handle all of these elements (object rotation, scale changes, etc.) and output a final design to high quality PDF or AI files without ImageMagick?
I'm just not sure if my developers are missing something or if they're just not communicating the technical challenges involved in creating such large, high quality output files for a custom, web-based application.

I'm still not sure I understand what you need. Sounds like the image map is the same for all the pages, but the image itself is different, although the images are the same size on each page. Is that it?
In that case, you could do this in a number of ways, but the best might be -
Make the page have a transparent PNG/GIF image the same size as the map that has the 5 mapped areas defined on it. Make the container for that image have a CSS BACKGROUND image that is the actual map. Specify this CSS background image's path in an embedded stylesheet in the editable region of the head of the page.
With this as the template, all you need to do on each page is to respecify the background image - since the embedded stylesheet is in an editable region that's do-able. In other words the TEMPLATE would be -

The map image can, itself, be in an uneditable region of the page....

Best way to design

Hey everybody. I'm new...to everything. I've had aDreamweaver
Mx for a long time but have used simple webpage builders in the
past (like yahoo pagebuilder-my boss wanted it that way). I'm
actually a graphic designer (using photoshop and illustrator) and I
was wondering, what is the easiest way to go about re-designing our
site? Can I use photoshop or illustrator and just import that into
dreamweaver or one of the other programs? If so, can you give me a
heads up on how I would start to do that (not the whole process)

To see which ODBC function DG4ODBC is looking for and unixODBC isn't supporting it would be best to get an ODBC trace file. But as your unixODBC driver (unixODBC-2.2.11-10.el5) is outdated and these old drivers had a lot of issues when being used on 64bit operating systems (for example wrong sizeofint etc). So best would be to update the unixODBC Driver manager to release 2.3.x. More details can be found on the web site: www.unicodbc.org

SAP Web Services Design Tool on Windows 7 64-bit

Hi,
I have:
- Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
- Crystal Reports 2008 Build 12.3.0.601
- Crystal Reports Server 2008 V1 SP3
I want to install the SAP Web Service Design Tool, but during the installation I get an error message :
Error 1920. Service SAPLicenseService failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services
I'm administrator of this machine - be sure.
Any idea?

Best Practice for Designing Database Tables?

Hi,
I work at a company for tracking devices (GPS Devices). Our SQL Server database is designed to have a table for each device we sell, currently there is 2500 tables in our database and they all have the same columns they only differ in table name. Each device
sends about 4K records per day.
currently each table hold from 10K records to 300K records
What is the best practice to design a database in this situation?
When accessing database from a C# application, which is better to use, direct SQL commands or views?
a detailed description about what is best to do in such scenario would be great.

Hello Louis, thank you so much for your informative post. I'll describe in detail what situations I came through my 9 months of work in the company (working as a software engineer, but I am planning to take over database maintenance since no one is maintaining
it right now and I cannot do anything else in the code to make it faster)
At every end of the month our clients generate report for the previous month for all their cars, some clients have 100+ cars, and some have few. This is when real issue start, they are calling their data from our server through internet while having 2000
unit sending data to our server, they keep on getting read time out since SQL Server gives priority to insert and hold all select commands. I solved it temporary in the code using "Read Uncommitted" once I initialize a connection through C#.
The other issue is generating reports for a month or two takes lots of time when selecting 100+ units. Thats what I want to solve, the problem is the one who wrote the C# app used hard coded SQL Statements
AND
the company is refusing to upgrade from SQL Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003.
Now talking about reports, there are summary reports, stops reports, zone reports ..etc most of them depend usually on at least MessageTime, MessageDate, MessageSpeed, MessageIO and MessageSatNumber.
So from your post I conclude that for now I need to set snapshots so that select statements don't get kicked out in favor for insert commands, but does SQL Server automatically select from the snapshots or do I have to tell it to do so?
Other than proper indexing what else I need? Tom
Phillips suggested Table partitioning but I don't think it is needed in my case since our database size is 78GB
When I run code analysis on the app, Visual Studio tells me I better use stored procedures, views than using hard coded Select Statements, what difference will this bring me when talking about performance?

let me explain :
in BI 4.0, the Data Federator Query Server engine is now part of the server-side Adaptive Processing Server .
You only invoke this architecture when you select "Multi Source Enabled" - any other entry point is NOT using the Data Federation Service.
So - if you select SingleSource - that's not using DF.
However, it is entirely possible to select "Multi Source Enabled" then only use 1 connection in the MSU !!
Having said the above, Your second question doesn't make sense.
Unless you mean, using the Data Federator middleware driver in BI 4.0 IDT, to connect to an XI 3.1 Data Federator Query Server? (i.e. consuming the 'old source' in the new enviornment)
This backwards compatibility was delivered to facilitate transition of DF customers, especially since there is no standalone DF product in BI 4.0 (yet)

Best practice for designing a directory tree

Hello all,
I wanted to know what you all think about what is the best way to design a directory tree. Again it seems to me that experience makes the man perfect and I wanted to know what you all think about how to design directory tree model.
Here is my view; I believe that keeping at least Users/ Employee information flat make more sense to me. I know itâs a good idea that one should consider an organizational hierarchy when designing a tree. But there seems to be some problem too. If employee moves from one department to another within the same organization then directory administrator has to change the location/department of the user. However, if all users are under the same namespace i.e. ou=Users, administrator does not have to change or move users location in the directory to another location.
Also, while designing a directory there could be several hierarchy, one is organizational hierarchy another could be organizing user info based on job roles i.e. CEO->VPs-Managers->Consultant.... and so on so. So which one should consider. So by considering ou=Users namespace, we are avoiding risk on favoring one type of hierarchy.
The trade-off in using ou=Users a flat namespace is that browsing of the directory looks less interesting.
Anyway, this is my view, I would like to know your views too and hope this thread will help other in building their own directory Tree.

Honestly it really depends on what you need your system to do and how you want to handle administration. I have read the argument about keeping things simple with using ou=USERS and seems like the best situation for administration purposes. Currently my client is wanting all identity management to be handled in OID so I am in the process of doing our hierarchy also. I still have to explore the abilities of OID to see how I can set things up.
There are a few good books and websites that are good for referencing ldap. One book I use is LDAP Programming, Management, and Integration by Donley. For websites, just search on google or check out www.ldapguru.com or www.openldap.org(possibly).
Hope this helps a little. I honestly can speak on the best way since I haven't implemented my own yet nor do I think one way will always be best for every situation.
