Best localization strategy

Hi Guys,
Which is the best GEO strategy in UCM ?
WE have a english version site in UCM. Now we are going to include Locale Site also ...
We will be using same template in locale sites that we used in English site.
Localized site URL would be wwww.example.com/fr/abcsection/
on every template , we have header, footer n left navigation fragments , and contribution regions.
Experts ,
Please suggest

Firstly, if I understood the question correctly, you would like to localize your sites created by UCM (Site Studio?), not UCM itself (it should be OK for both French and English).
There are actually quite a few strategies how to do that "ideally", and I would suggest you to contact Oracle Consulting Services to help you to start.
In general, it very much depends how tightly are translations linked together. Theoretically, you could have:
- one element, which is translated to many languages. In this case, you might want to use some resource files containing technical names and translations and in the element just use a simple code to pick the correct translation. This is something that you could read in Ravenna standard demo (ask for Linux version, this could be given for free)
- many elements/items representing texts in different languages. There is a component, I believe called Translation Workflows, developed by a Belgian consultant Jurgen Debedts ([email protected]) that enables linking these together causing that if a text changes related texts could be sent to workflows for translation. This is a little bit more complicated than that, because for longer texts you might want to have them sent to an external translation agency rather than to your employees.
In fact, the "social" feature, ie. who actually does translations, is the more complex one, and there is an experience with it, so why re-inventing the wheel?

  • Best backup strategy

Time Machine is brilliant. It's saved me many times.
But recently, the backup drive with a year's worth of backups, died.
I therefore lost ALL my backups.
Not a major problem as I still have my current data and having re-formatted the Time Machine drive it's merrily backing it all up again.  (I just hope I don't need to recover to last week's backup ... as I no longer have it.)
But until that's finished I have NO backups!  Eeek!
So what is the best backup strategy, bearing in mind drives can fail, houses can burn down, etc.  Should I have two or three Time Machine backup discs and keep swapping them every day so if one dies I've still got a one-day-old version?
Making DVD backups and storing them elsewhere is very time consuming and while my data is really important to me, it defeats the object if I can get on with any work on that data as I'm constantly burning to lotsof DVDs!
    Your views would be appreciated!

I pretty much do a similar thing, but my offsite backup goes to a locked cabinet in my office (easier to get to weekly to bring home and update then using a bank - I honestly cannot remember when I last physically went to my bank, its been years).
TM makes a great source for restoring single files or being able to go back to an earlier version of a file.  And the clones are easier for full restoration, or even for booting from temporarily if the machines boot drive dies and you just want to get in to deauthorize it before sending in for repairs or such.  Always good to have a bootable clone around, for many reasons.
My external clones are on firewire 800 bus powered portable drives, again for simplicity (no power cables or bricks to go with them).
I also still burn to optical disc for specific things like filed tax returns, and other financial documents I need to keep around in the fire safe for some period of time.

  • Best migration strategy in ODI

What's the best strategy of migration in ODI ? I mean we have Dev,Test, UA and Production instances. I know there are metalink notes and some documentation on migration but I need to know the potential issues with migration if anyone has experienced. We may not migrate whole development to Test but migrate partially as some objects might be still under development before moving to test and in such scenario, how do we keep track between instances ? I appreciate if some one can throw some light on this who has experienced with different scenarios of migrating objects in ODI and ofcourse the best strategy of the migration process...
    Thanks in advance.
    Ram

    Hi ,
ODI provide the option to export / import ODI object in form of XML file. So , You can partial export some object that you want then import to the production env. As my exp , Sometime it has some issue about internal object ID link that make a ruin to the repository on the production. Because all the object in ODI was linked together with "Internal ID" that related between object.
With this method , you cannot track what's the different between prod and dev environment until you create a version of that object and use compare version utilty in designer.
    Hope this help ,

  • 2048x1536 videos and best compression strategy

    Hi,
I can't quite figure out if DPS on the iPad3 supports palyback of videos in 2048*1536 resolution. Should I stick to 1024*768 even for the 2048 rendition?
The cover of our magazine includes a full-screen video that features animated text. I'd like it to stay as crisp as possible, but had an error message pop up when tried to play a 2048*1536 video. Playback of a 104*768 video works just fine, but I find the text somewhat pixelated, especially after compressing it to mp4 (I exported from AE in Quicktime format using the Photo - JPEG codec, and then compressed to h.264 in media encoder)
The second part of my question, which I realize may not really belong in this forum but rather in the After Effects or Media Encoder forrums, is what would be the best rendering and compression strategy to keep the type as crisp as possible, especially if 2048*1536 is indeed not supported?
    Thanks

1536x2048 will not render on a iPad3 this is something programed in to the video play back on iOS basicly it only supports up to 1080 which is 1920x1080 and it really is just the 1920 we have to worry about anything over that does not play. So this is what I do with my full screen videos on the iPad3 I scale them to 90% of 1536x2048 which is 1382x1843 which plays just fine with no noticable loss in quailty.
Here are the sizes I use for full screen videos on iOS devices.
    iPad3 - 1382x1843
    iPad1&2 - 691x922
    iPhone4 - 576x864
    iPhone2&3 - 288x432
The second part of your question I can help answer but I am no expert on video encoding I will just sure the settings I use.
    Video
    Format: H.264
    Frame Rate: 30
    Field Order: Progressive
    Aspect: Square Pixels (1.0)
    TV Standard: NTSC
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 Pass
    Target Bitrate [Mbps]: 8
    Maximum Bitrate [Mbps]: 8
    Key Frame Distance: 72
    Audio
    Audio Codec: AAC
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
    Channels: Stereo
    Audio Quality: High
    Bitrate [kbps]: 320
    Precedence: Bitrate
    Multiplexer
    Multiplexer: MP4
    Stream Compatibility: Standard
    Hope that helps.

  • Best partitioning strategy for OS 8.6?

    Hello,
I have two hard drives on my beige 233 MHz G3 minitower (rev 1):
    4 GIG SCSI
    80 GIG ATA
I need to install OS 8.6. I was considering using both drives but I do not know what I should put on each drive.
Should I install OS 8.6 onto the 4 GIG drive or the 80 GIG drive?
    Option 1:
    4 GIG: OS 8.6
    80 GIG: applications
    Option 2:
4 GIG drive: don't use it at all
80 GIG drive: OS 8.6 and the applications
    Option 3 (using partitioning):
4 GIG drive: don't use it at all
80 GIG drive: First partition (15 GIGS): OS 8.6 and the applications. Second partition: (65 GIGs) for data.
Unfortunately 4 GIGs is too small for all my applications and so that is why I was thinking of not even using the 4 GIG drive and instead putting everything onto the 80 GIG drive. I have heard it is a good idea to keep the system and apps on the same volume - I am not sure if this is always true however.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
The other issue is that I might have to further partition the 80 GIG drive into an additional partition for OSX in case I also need to install OSX because I read somewhere that on a beige G3, OSX must be installed in a partition that is no larger than 8 GIGs and it must be the first partition.
This scenario would look like this:
    Option 4 (using more partitioning):
4 GIG: don't use it at all
    80 GIG:
First partition (7.9 GIGS): OS X and OS X applications
Second partition (15 GIGS): OS 8.6 and the applications
Third partition: (57 GIGs) for data.
(I created a separate realted post under older hardware/beige G3/usage regarding how to boot between OS 8.6 and OS X in case anyone is interested.)

    Thanks Don and Jim,
I carefully considered all your comments and here's what I plan to do:
It is important for me to indicate that, for this beige G3, I will use OSX primarily (OS 10.1.5) and therefore I would like its partition to be as large as possible. I read this will benefit OSX's swap file needs. However the OS must be within the 7.7 GIG limit for this particular mac (beige G3). I can therefore conclude that I should make the first partition exactly 7.7 GIGs and use it only for OSX.
Jim, you say that the 8 GIG limit for the startup volume applies to all OSes not just OSX and so that is a critical point for me. I will need to be certain about this. Are you sure OS 8.6 isn't bootable if it is in another partition beyond the first 8 GIGS on a beige G3? You see, I was thinking of installing OS 8.6 on a second partition of the 80 GIG drive like this:
    partition 1 (7.7 GIGs): OSX
partition 2: (15 GIGs) : OS 8.6 and its applications
Based on your comment (the 8 GIG limit for the startup volume applies to all OSes) this will not work - the OS 8.6 partition will never boot because it is not within the first 8 GIGs. I had thought that rule only applied to OSX.
And if so, the best solution is to put OS 8.6 on the 4 GIG drive instead.
    Here is my final solution:
    4 GIG drive:
    OS 8.6 (plus maybe photoshop)
    80 GIG drive:
partition 1 (7.7 GIGs): OSX (10.1.5 is the version I have)
partition 2: (about 67 GIGs) : all the OSX applications, all the OS 8.6 applications and all my data
partition 3 (5 GIGS) : scratch disk just for running photoshop in OS 8.6 (I may or may not create this last partition - still thinking about it)
I might consider putting one or two of my OS 8.6 applications on the 4 GIG drive - the higher end applications such as photoshop which I think might fit on the 4 GIG drive with the OS 8.6.
As for the 5 GIG scratch partition on the 80 GIG drive, I am still considering if I need to do this or not because I would rarely use it - only for the few times I might run photoshop in OS 8.6. Maybe I should keep this partition anyways for something else just in case.
    Other less important notes:
I might, one day, be able to use OS 9 instead of OS8.6 in these examples, in which case I will just substitute 9 for 8.6 in my examples noted above. Howwever for now I am reserving OS 9 for another computer I have. As for classic, I don't need classic support. I would rather just boot directly into 9. I have used classic before and I found it to be slow.
Thanks Jim and Don for your help.
If anyone sees anything wrong with this setup please let me know!

  • Best failover strategy for 2 node EBS 11i?

    Environment: 11.5.10.2
    Number of Node : 2
DB& Concurrent Manager on 1 Node
    APPS on another node
Concurrent Manager and APPS are using SHARED APPL_TOP.
When DB node / APPS nodes are fails, what is the best failover method can be adopted for E-Business suite?

    John,
With the current setup you have, high availability cannot be achieved for the following reasons:
If Node 1 fails --> Database is down and you cannot run it on Node 2
If Node 2 fails --> You will need to run all application services on Node 1 (as a single node installation), and this is not feasible as lots of changes need to be done in the application context file
To achieve high availability you need to have RAC and/or Data Guard implemented. The following notes provide details about RAC and Data Guard implementation with Oracle E-Business Suite:
Note: 341437.1 - Business Continuity for Oracle Applications Release 11i Using Oracle Real Application Clusters and Physical Standby Database
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=341437.1

    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=403347.1
If you cannot afford implementing RAC and/or Data Guard, you may go with OS cluster (contact your vendor for details), but again this will not protect you if both servers and/or the shared storage goes down.

  • FCP X 10.1 Best Backup Strategy

We have a great backup strategy in FCP 10.0.x utilising offsite backups of each SD card via Camera Archives and Carbon Copy Cloner. We then backup up our Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events folders - but excluded the 'Transcoded Media' folder as that was the biggy and we could re transcode media if things turned pear shaped. We also excluded the 'Render Files' and 'Analysis Files' for the same reason - quick to rebuild. We run 2 edit suites with 8TB Promise R4 drives and and even with these at 75% full of all our media we could at the end of the day (or during the day) create a backup via Carbon Copy Cloner with the above exceptions very fast to an external Thunderbolt drive to take offsite each day - easy and fast! I'm talking a couple of minutes tops to achieve a very complete offsite backup that if needed can work with the offsite backup of our camera archives and we could 'rebuild' any edit within a few hours - we've tested and provides great peace of mind... But now what with this packaged library structure. Is something like this still possible anyone?

    Hi nzglen,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The Managing Media with Final Cut Pro X Libraries white paper (PDF) at http://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/docs/Media_Management.pdf covers strategies for backing up libraries and media.
I hope this information helps ....

  • Best Archiving Strategy?

I have many hours of video of the kids that is on mini DVD tape.
Now is the time to drag out the firewire 400 deck and move these off to a hard drive.
Any advice on the best way to handle this so the kids can make sense of it all, assuming I can keep migrating it to new storage methods!
    I have iMovie, anything else?
    Thanks i advance
    Cas

Do you have the firewire 400 cable too?! I think that's all you need. What you will want to do is just save it into Events folders that are stored on the new External HD. Make sure you have formatted it as Mac OS Extended using Disk Utility (it's inside the Utilities folder inside of the Applications Folder). As a Mac formatted disk you will have full access to the video clips from programs like iMovie.

  • Best iTunes strategy for a family with multiple Windows accounts

On our previous Windows 7 PC, I set up separate Windows accounts for each of our family members. Since iTunes can't be run concurrently on more than one Windows account, I also set up another Windows account named "iTunes," the sole purpose of which is to have iTunes running in a way that everyone can access it without having to log into each others' accounts. When you want to use iTunes, you log into the "iTunes" Windows account; when you want to do something else on the computer, you log into your personal Windows account.
Two questions: (1) Is there a better way to do this? and (2) Am I right that iTunes still can't be run concurrently on more than one Windows account?
    Thanks.

This is a user to user support forum. Your fellow users can offer solutions or workarounds based on their experience with the application. If you think it should work differently drop a line to iTunes Feedback.
For reasons unknown Apple haven't chosen to allow iTunes to be suspended in one profile and active in another. My recollection is that this applies even if each profile has a different library, although it is some time since I've committed a personal test.
I'm not sure why my suggestion make less sense that your current approach?. As I understand it currently everybody is either signed into their own account when they can do something other than work with iTunes, or they sign into the special iTunes account where they can't access any of their other stuff. You don't have to disable fast user switching. Follow exactly the same steps, but make sure everyone closes iTunes before turning the computer over to another user. Disabling fast user switching helps to enforce that action.

  • Choosing the best migration strategy

I'm migrating from on premises Exchange 2007 (part of SBS 2008).  My plan is to use a staged migration.  One of the first things I need to decide is if I want to use password sync or single sign on.  I've read the docs on each, but I'm unclear
on the specific advantages of each.
If I use single sign on, is it dependent on the connection between Exchange online and on prem?  If my DC is offline, can users still authenticate online for email?

Why you want to migrate though Staged process? It is a very time consuming process. As per my own experience, I would advise you to make use of any EDB to Converter like PcVita Converter, Stellar EDB to PSt Converter, Kernel EDB to PST Converter and many
more are there. With these tools, you can directly export EDB to PST and then you can easily import that PST into your Exchange using powershell cmdlets. You can find page URLs of the converters below:

  • Best Upgrade Strategy

Currently on 10.6.8 and have resisted upgrading because it runs great and handles Quicken 2006 For The Mac and several other programs that I use frequently. Now it looks like I will have to upgrade to 10.7 or higher just to use Turbo Tax this year. If I am going to upgrade, should I go all the way to Yosemite or one of the interim levels? Have read so many bad reports about some of the interim upgrades.
Will also have to find out the highest OS that Quicken 2006 will run on, which will probably also be a limiting factor. If I do upgrade the OS, I will be able to use the new Quicken 2015 for  the Mac but will have to find a copy of Quicken 2007 or later to convert files for the Quicken 2015.
How did I get in this mess? (I know, failure to stay current but Snow Leopard has been such a great system). Current hardware:

    Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz
    8GB Ram
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • What's the best transport strategy?

We create everything from scrach on BW 3.5 Development and now we would start to transport them to Test environment.  We could start from InfoCube level in the Transport Connection by grouping them "In Dataflow Before and Afterwards", but someone says it's better to group them with "Only Necessary Objects", which one is better?
Also is this the correct way that we start from InfoCube level?  Or ODS level? or some other levels?
    Thanks

    hey Anil/Sachdev,
In Transport Connection, if I click the picture icon of "Select Objects" under InfoObject, then all the InfoObjects are listed and I don't think that's a good idea to transport from InfoOjects first since there is no way to select all the InfoObjects from the selection window (there are so many infoobjects there).  If I click "Select Objects" picture icon under InfoObject Catelog, then can a window pops up with only a few Object (with technical name/long description) listed, while if I go to RSA1 -> InfoObjects page, then I can see much more folders listed for all InfoObjects. Why the Select InfoObject Catelog is different from this InfoObjects page?
    Thanks
