Best method of storing/receiving data

I'm goofing around with developing a Flash game that would be accessible via a Facebook application but am still trying to figure out how I want to organize the game itself. The game essentially is an educational game with competitive components - completing tests faster results in more points with which you can customize your avatar and other items in the game. Also, passing certain "lessons" open up new lessons. So the major components I see are:
- Player data storage (scores, progress, etc.)
- Social connections - transference of rewards, comparing high scores, etc.
- Lesson data (what questions to ask, possible answers, etc.)
How is this best controlled? PHP and SQL? XML? Should I use datagrids as an intermediary? I'm having a lot of problems finding good information, both on the internet and at the bookstore about how to manage this. If only I had access to the source for the more popular Facebook games...
Thanks!

player data you can store using the sharedobject which is easier to encode than using a database like mysql or xml.
but to compare high scores among different players you'll need to use a database and server-side scripting.  so, you may as well use that for all the data.

Use setup assistant which is offered when you setup your new Mac.  It will transfer information from a Time Machine backup, Clone or another Mac.
It's best to do this during setup to avoid issues with duplicate IDs.

  • What is the best method for storing/retrieving images?

    Friends,
    OS: RHEL AS 3
    DB: 9iR2
We have some critical situation. We need to scan all our Purchase orders and to store in our pc. we don't want to store the images in the database. it will be a big headache. We have 4 branches in different cities. All the branches are connected to our local network. We have novell server in every branches to store the oracle forms and the db is centralized in our head office. The purpose is to view any PO in any branch.
so,what will be the best solution for storing the images for our archiving?
    thanks & regards

Yes - a good quality external hard drive is the answer
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Best method to load XML data into Oracle

    Hi,
I have to load XML data into Oracle tables. I tried using different options and have run into a dead end in each of those. I do not have knowledge of java and hence have restricted myself to PL/SQL solutions. I tried the following options.
    1. Using DBMS_XMLSave package : Expects the ROWSET and ROW tags. Connot change format of the incoming XML file (Gives error oracle.xml.sql.OracleXMLSQLException: Start of root element expected).
    2. Using the XMLPARSER and XMLDOM PL/SQL APIs : Works fine for small files. Run into memory problems for large files (Gives error java.lang.OutOfMemoryError). Have tried increasing the JAVA_POOL_SIZE but does not work. I am not sure whether I am changing the correct parameter.
I have read that the SAX API does not hog memory resources since it does not build the entire DOM tree structure. But the problem is that it does not have a PL/SQL implementation.
Can anyone PLEASE guide me in the right direction, as to the best way to achieve this through PL/SQL ??? I have not designed the tables so am flexible on using purely relational or object-relational design. Although would prefer to keep a purely relational design. (Had tried used object-relational for 1. and purely relational for 2. above)
The XML files are in the following format, (EXAMINEEs with single DEMOGRAPHIC and multiple TESTs)

Please refer to the XSU(XML SQL Utility) or TransX Utility(for Multi-language Document) if you want to load data in XML format into database.
Both of them require special XML formats, please first refer to the following docs:
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/tech/xml/xdk_java/doc_library/Production9i/doc/java/xsu/xsu_userguide.html
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/tech/xml/xdk_java/doc_library/Production9i/doc/java/transx/readme.html
You can use XSLT to transform your document to the required format.
If you document is large, you can use SAX method to insert data into database. But you need to write the code.
The following sample may be useful:

  • Best method for initial upload data into CRM

    Hey guys,
could someone tell me what is the best and fastest method to upload a mass of data (11 mio. BPs) to CRM? Now i am not sure. I thought you have to do that through the CRM middleware. Now i read you can do this also via IDOC. Which method should i use to do this? What about LSMW?
        regards,
           Ming

    Hello Ming,
Could you tell us where is the Mass Data of BP located?
Are you trying to upload the data from R/3 to CRM? or from legacy systems?
If its from legacy or non-R/3 systems then LSMW is the best approach.
But if its from R/3 to CRM, then better approach would be via MW since once initial load is performed using txn:R3AS,
subsequent delta changes would flow down automatically to CRM.
    Hope this helps!

  • What is the best method for controlling a data switch of 20x20 ports, with local and remote requests?

I'm using booleon control boxes for 'source' ports - to be connected to 'customers' ports. Am not sure of choosing between arrays, clusters, case, etc.

Thanks, however, I simply meant my boolean 'ports' to mean a 'yes/no' control box of a 'data source', which, when selected, would signify a 'source' that could then be connected to a 'customer' port or 'receiving box'. Perhaps instead of port, I should have said input/output box.
My main question is simply about a data switch matrix of 20 inputs and 20 outputs. Should I attempt to manage the switching of data lines via cases, for loops, sequence, or what! I believe I will need to set up arrays, but controlling the matrix is ???. Thanks.

  • Best Practice for Storing Spatial Data in Multiple Projections?

From what I've been able to determine MS SQL can't do reprojections is that correct? Assuming it is, the state of Washington requires that our GIS data be managed in Washington Stat Plane South
but for our web mapping sites need the data in Web Mercator.  Is it OK then to have two geometry columns in a spatial enabled table, say a county table, one in WSPS and the other in WM?
I’m coming at this from a 30 year background in GIS using ESRI software.
Usually we would store the shape / geometry in one projection and project it to other on the fly when needed.
That way there is only one definitive source.  I don’t see a way to do this in MS SQL.

    Hi Scott.
Storing two columns of spatial data is fine in SQL Server. And you are correct that there is no built-in reprojection in SQL Server, most folks do that as part of data loading. There was talk of porting parts of ogr2ogr to SQLCLR, but I don't think anyone
    did that.
    Cheers, Bob

  • Best method to access archived data

We are archiving off General Ledger data from JRNL_LN and JRNL_HEADER from our production system to a reporting environment. The customer wants to have a content reference that will allow them to read the archived journal data in the other environment. The requirement is to have the same page that is used under General Ledger--Journals--Journal Entry--Create Journal Entries--Find an Existing Value. This screen provides a link to journals where you can view detailed journal information including approvals and attachments for the journal. It will need to be read only and display the archived journal data that resides in the reporting environment. I did some research and was thinking of creating a whole new component consisting of all the pages in the JOURNAL_ENTRY_IE component. This presents a problem though. The archived tables will not be the same name (JRNL_LN and JRNL_HEADER). For reasons, these table names will be changed (something like JRNL_LN_HST). There is a ton of PeopleCode that references the JRNL_LN and JOURNAL_HEADER records and fields. There is also the FUNCLIB_GL library that includes a bunch of references to the table fields as well. I would have to create copies of all the pages, update them with the correct table/field names and copy the FUNCLIB_GL library as well and rename all the references. This would be a huge undertaking. What would be the best approach to providing a read only screen for data that resides in a separate environment? They want the same screen to be used that is used in the production environment (listed above) that is used for reading GL data and making changes. Any thoughts?

Is your reporting environment another PeopleSoft database or just a collection of archive tables?
If it is a PeopleSoft database, you could keep the table names the same and run the same journal entry component in the reporting database. If users want to get to it directly from the production system, you could configure single sign-on and connect to the component in the reporting database from production.
Note that there are additional tables that you should probably be archiving in addition to the header and lines. Some are probably not used, but you will probably have data in the JRNL_CF_BAL_TBL.
You would have to be very careful to set security correctly in the reporting database so users don't accidently enter new journals in the wrong system. Customizing the page title, background color, etc. to provide visual cues would also help.

  • Most efficient method of storing configuration data for huge volume of data

The scenario in which i'm boggled up is as follows:
I have a huge volume of raw data (as CSV files).
This data needs to be rated based on the configuration tables.
The output is again CSV data with some new fields appended to the original records.
These new fields are derived from original data based on the configuration tables.
There are around 15 configuration tables.
Out of these 15 tables 4 tables have huge configurations.
1 table has 15 million configuration data of 10 colums.
Other three tables have around 1-1.5 million configuration data of 10-20 columns.
Now in order to carry forward my rating process, i'm left with the following methods:
    1) Leave the configurations in database table. Query the table for each configuration required.
Disadvantage: Even if the indexes are created on the table, it takes a lot of time to query 15 configuration tables for each record in the file.
    2) Load the configurations as key value pairs in RAM using a suitable collection (Eg HashMap)
    Advantage: Processing is fast
Disadvantage: Takes around 2 GB of RAM per instance.
Also when the CPU context swithes (as i'm using a 8 CPU server), the process gets hanged up for 10 secs.
This happens very frequently, so the net-net speed which i get is again less
    3) Store the configurations as CSV sorted files and then perform a binary search on it.
Advantages: No RAM usage, Same configuration shared by multiple instances
Disadvantages: Only 1 configuration table has an integer key, so cant use this concept for other tables
(If i'm wrong in that please correct)
    4) Store the configurations as an XML file
Dont know the advantages/disadvantages for it.
Please suggest with the methodology which should be carried out....

  • Best Method to Move Partitioned Data to Another Server

    Hi,
In our company we have a monthly maintenance to move one partition from many partitioned tables to another server. I want to know what is the following:
1- Best way to do this task and to move table partitions to another database on another server?
2- When I delete table partition, do I need to analyze the table or rebuild the indexes?
    Appreciate your prompt response.
    Thanks

2- When I delete table partition, do I need to analyze the table or rebuild the indexes? What do you mean by delete table partition? If you mean truncate or drop parition then you should use "UPDATE GLOBAL INDEXES" clause in order to avoid rebuilding global indexes as shown in the below examle:
    create table TAB1 ( Value number(10))
      partition by range(value)
partition p1 values less than (10),
partition p2 values less than (20),
partition p3 values less than (30),
partition p4 values less than (40),
partition p5 values less than (50)
    insert into tab1
    select rownum
    from dual connect by rownum < 50;
    commit;
    create index tab1_indx1 on tab1(value);
    sql> select index_name, status
      2  from user_indexes
      3  where index_name = 'TAB1_INDX1';

I am trying to find the best method for writing the data from a multicolumn list to a text file. Say the list has 7 rows and 6 columns of data. • Best method to move data from ArcSDE to Oracle Spatial/Mapviewer environment?

If ArcGIS Geodatabase is the standard data store for GIS data, but business IT wants to make use of an Oracle Spatial/Mapviewer environment, what is the best practices recommended approach for interfacing between the two data stores.  (perhaps this is an Oracle Spatial question, but tools exist here as well.)

Yes, This question is more suited for the Oracle Spatial Forum.
And about the question, you must use Esri's owns products like ArcCatalog or Arcmap to connect to oracle and change the format of your geometries. Arcgis is capable of storing geometrical data in oracle in SDO_Geometry format.
If you have question about the procedure of this action, don't hesitate to ask.

  • Best method for refreshing a component's data?

What's better when you want to refresh the content of an object? Should you just replace your JComponent with an entirely new one, or should you try to get access to the data and then remove the items and then re-add them.
In my example, I have a JTree and am not sure which would be the best method to use. Should I try to remove all the nodes, or sometimes I think it would be easier to just remove the tree component from my panel, create a new tree and re-populate it?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hello.
As Jim so rightly points out above, you do not need to do anything.
Just use your normal 16:9 widescreen footage, and author as normal.
Your player will letterbox automatically when it is connected to a 4:3 screen in setup (just make sure "Pan & Scan" is not also there)

  • Best method for data acquisition application

    Another Newbie question:
I have a different application that I am working on (preliminary development stage) and I would to perform the following steps but I am not quite sure what the best method to complete the task
    1) acquire data
    2) wait 60 minutes (at this point at a later time I will add code to turn oven on)
    3) acquire data
    4) wait 60 minutes ( at this point, at a later time I will add code to turn oven OFF)
    5) acquire data
    6) END
Currently I am using a modified example of the Agilent 34970A.  I can sucessfully contol the agilent meter and get data using labview (chart and log to lvm only).
I am looking ahead for the main intention:
Ideally the user of the application will list channels desired to acquire data from and make an association to a serial number (havent figured this part out yet) and then push the START button and walk away.  At the very end the Initial / Hot / Return data would be obtained, calculations performed, and a printout made.
I am looking a good starting point to work off of whereby I can continue my baby steps.  Should I use Event driven or a sequence?
    Any good examples?
    Thank you for your time

    jqm,
It seems like you have figured a good state machine model for your application. I am attaching a more elaborate state machine example than what is available in Example Finder. It uses a Producer/Consumer scenario with queues to pass data between two loops. You can follow that example to create your application. You might not be able to run the program unless you configure your Data Acquisition hardware to correspond to the software settings. However, you will be able to see the overall structure pretty well.
Study the example well to see how data is passed from one state to another. For your wait time you can use either Elapsed Time VI or Wait VI.
    Hope that helps.
