Best Method to Create Bookmarks

I am converting a 70+ page contract template to LiveCycle Designer 9.0.0.2 and would like to accomplish creating permanent bookmarks when the users open the form in Adobe.  Using info from this link, http://forums.adobe.com/message/4013698, I'm able to set the initial view to open showing bookmarks panel.  Right now, am still finishing the master form, so when I re-open it in LiveCycle, this setting goes away.  Once am finished with form, will re-set the initial view.  Same with bookmarks. I can create a bookmark table of contents for the contract, but if I open in LiveCycle to modify contents, I have to re-create the extensive bookmarks list in Adobe again.
Is there an efficient way to do this that the bookmarks will remain?  Have been reading and downloaded examples of how to create them using XML, but not quite there in understanding how to implement.
Also, is there any way to retain the bookmarks if printed to PDF?  In some cases the final version of the document will be printed to PDF so they can further use comment/mark-up functionality in Adobe.  Even though I've enabled form for Reader Extensions (we use professional version - reader is for some remote users), am not able to use mark-up/commenting functionality in Adobe or add/remove pages until it's been printed to PDF and no longer a LiveCycle form.  If there is something I'm missing on this side, would appreciate any advice, as printing to PDF is not the best option to gain this functionality, as it loses other important features.
The form is being moved from Word to LiveCycle because it contains many sections with re-started page numbers, etc.  Am using multiple master pages in LiveCycle to handle this, and it works well.  In Word, it is too easy for someone to accidentally remove a section break and mess up the numbering, headers/footers, etc.  So am hoping to overcome the issues with LiveCycle.  Thank you for any help.

Hi,
the bookmarks for XFA forms where intoduced with LiveCycle ES3 (10.x) (also knows as ADEP), and there seems to be no way to create such bookmarks in a previous version.
The bookmark macro in the thread you mentioned is designed for ES3 or higher.
It can propably work in ES2, but is not guaranteed because in ES2 the macro API was a unofficical, undocumented feature with a few limitations and less methods than in in official version.
The macro will add an extras element to each object you want to create a bookmark for.
<extras name="bookmark">
         <text name="name">My Bookmark</text>
         <text name="color">0,0,0</text>
         <text name="style">normal</text>
         <text name="action">setFocus</text>
      </extras>
This extras element will be reinterpreted as a bookmark by the PDF viewer, but for XFA forms made with ES2 it simply doesn't work (no idea why).
So you would have to use a newer version of Designer, to use those bookmark features.

  • Best method to create a spinnable flower windmill for iPad and Android

    What is the best method to create a spinnable flower windmill for iPad and Android?  I want to be able to drag and spin.  The faster you drag, the faster it should spin.  Each petal will have an image which will be its own link.  Any links to tutorials, toolkits, and recent examples are greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    Here's a whell that spins, but it has a spin button instead of being able to drag it:

    Seems to me the best ui would be to be able to drag it and stop it or drag it and spin it at various speeds.

  • What is the best method for creating a simple DVD from X?

    Now that I no longer have DVD SP on my system, I need to know the preferred method of creating a simple menu driven DVD. The DVD needs to have a simple (one click) since the local cable company needs that so it will trigger at a specified time. I shoot in 720p 60. The DVD is SD. I do have Toast, Compressor, and iDVD on the computer. Any input will really be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Luis.
    Can't beleive I missed that. I am so used to using Compressor or Toast. This method works great. Thanks.

  • Best methods for creating e-books from FrameMaker 10 (TCS 3.5)

    I would like to know your thoughts on which of the following methods is the best, and easiest, way to create e-books from FrameMaker. I will most likely be using Calibre to do the file conversion.
    (1) Using File > Publish > ePub to create an ePub file, which can then be imported into Calibre.
    (2) Using the File > Save Book As > HTM command (which creates a separate HTML file for each FM file), editing the HTML files in RoboHelp (or another HTML editing tool), then importing all of the HTML files into Calibre.
    Note that when I published to HTML from FM, it appears that only an output file was created from RoboHelp, as I could not find any HTML files were actually created. Is that the case, or was I just not looking for the HTML files in the right place?
    If anyone has any other recommendations, please let me know! Thanks!

    I linked the FrameMaker book to RoboHelp, then generated an ePub file from RoboHelp, and have a couple of issues.
    (1) When I open the ePub file in Calibre and Adobe Digital Editions, there is no contents section within the book. The only contents is the contents in the navigation bar. How do I generate a contents to appear in the front of the ebook, or do I have to create that manually in RH? I did specify the settings in RH to convert the FM contents.
    (2) The ePub file looks much better in Calibre than Adobe Digital Editions. Should I be concerned about this? Which viewer should I rely on?

  • Best method for creating a collection.

    hi,
    i've written a loop which specifies the content of a name,age and location String for each time it goes through the loop.
    I've also created a Person() class which has the ability to set these strings as its variables.
    What would be the best collection to use for putting together lots of Person() objects each with their own variables(set by the loop).
    I've tried using an Person[] and using the variable i to set a person for each location for example
    person [] people = new person[100]
    int i = 0
    public void loadPeople()
    for(i = 0; i < 100; i++){
    name = //Changing variable read from text file;
    age = //changing variable read from text file;
    location = //changing variable read from text file;
    people[i] = new Person(name, age, location);
    }however if i use the method
    System.out.println("people[1].name");i get "null"; and name is definately public.
    So i was wondering basically if there is something else a little better to use as a collection.
    Thanks
    Richard.

    <wearing psychic hat>
    I bet the constructor looks amazingly similar to this:
    public Person(String name, int age, String location)
      name = name;
      age = age;
      location = location;
    }</wearing psychic hat>
    Am I right?
    If so, think about what this means.
    name = name;
    Assigns the value of a variable to itself. Not terribly useful, huh?
    How about this instead?
    this.name = name;
    Assigns the value of the local name parameter to the attribute named 'name' of this object.

  • Best method for creating a PDF Brochure???

    Hello,
    I would like to create a printable PDF brochure and post it on my website [url deleted by host]. I’ve tried just using the existing web pages and think I could get something better looking starting from scratch. I just started working with Acrobat 9 extended and am not too familiar with it’s potential. Any suggestions whether I should do it all in Acrobat, or use a different program and import it. I have the Adobe Web Premium  Suite 4 with Fireworks and Illustrator.
    Thanks.

    Use whatever desktop publishing application that you have then use Acrobat to print to a PDF. Do
    n't use Acrobat for the layout. That's not what it is for.

  • Best Method for Strechable .swf file in horizontal but not vertical?

    What is the best method to create an easy to use flash file
    that will allow horizontal scaling with a fixed vertical size?
    This will be for a blog header in a variable width design at
    Make Light Real.com
    I have tried the basic stage properties and found
    StageScaleMode.NO_BORDER to be an ok solution, but I'm not
    sure what will happen when I begin to drop active clips in on the
    stage. Will the stage operate from a fixed point or how will the
    clips orient to the stage as it expands?
    My understanding of actionscript is just enough to hack
    pieces of what I need together: but if you could enlighten me with
    the most basic understanding of which method would work best for me
    I'd apprecate it. I also have this method to alter the background
    (as a clip):
    quote:
    Stage.addListener(ecout);
    // function which replaces all the elements with the new
    values
    slide = function () {
    photo_mc._x = 0;
    photo_mc._y = 0;
    photo_mc._width = Stage.width;
    photo_mc._height = Stage.width/rapp;
    if (photo_mc._height<Stage.height) {
    photo_mc._height = Stage.height;
    photo_mc._width = Stage.height*rapp;
    slide()
    Should I just alter the variables there to lock the stage
    height?
    Thanks for your time in answering.

    When you export your movie you can select the scaling options
    for width and height.
    Try selecting one but not the other.

  • Best method for dynamically populating PDF on the web?

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to find a web-based solution to populate text within an existing PDF with a person's name (using a name variable within the PDF body copy in several spots).  I know that LiveCycle Designer is the best method for creating dynamic PDF's but since I'm on a Mac, LiveCycle Designer wasn't packaged with my CS5 Suite / Acrobat 9 and I'm not eager to run windows in parallel and pay for acrobat pro a second time just to have it on windows for the LiveCycle functionality...CS5 wasn't cheap ha.
    So I'm trying to find out if there are alternative ways to achieve this without going down that road.  I don't mind writing PHP or using some other programming language to set it up online, but I just seem to be finding many different methods coming up and cannot find the most straightforward solution.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    LiveCycle Designer won't do what you want. It requires server software: LiveCycle Forms will do the trick.
    You can find information on it here: http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/forms/

  • Best method for rounded corners?

    Hi all,
    Can someone please share the best method for creating rounded corners similar to the menu interface in Leopard? Actually the best representation I've seen, is in the Motion 3 Tutorials - Working with 3D. The Matte Shape filter in FCP is close, but not quite the cigar I'm looking for.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jim,
    • Select Clip
    • Add 4 point Garbage Matte
    • Activate all 4 corners by clicking on the labels 1-4
    • Adjust settings to your desires.
    As an example I used:
    • Smooth = 12
    • Choke = -47
    • Feather = 2
    Worked like a charm.

  • Which method of creating AW to choose?

    Hi,
    I've made two mechanisms to creating Analytic Workspaces. First in CWM2 and DBMS_AW technology and second in java AWXML technology.
    Which of the two methods of building AW is better?
    I've spotted that java awxml api is more universal, I can do some things that I can't using CWM2 and DBMS_AW (to partition a cube for example). Though, on the other hand, PLSQL packages seems to be more native for Oracle.
    Has OLAP Catalog (created via CWM2 packages) any purpose beyond serving as a proxy (additional layer) in a process of creating AW?
    Regards,
    Aleksander

    If Java AWXML works better for you than CWM2 and DBMS_AW, then Java AWXML is the best method for creating AW's. I believe there's no static rule for that kind of stuff.
    It seems like you are using Oracle 9i, is that true? If so, I'd like to ask you a few questions!
    Thanks in advance!

    Marcos

  • Creating 2 sets up PDFs, best method?

    I created a PDF file for press from InDesign using modified press settings. I also do a digital version. Is it better to export the same files (individual page sections) at the lowest file size settings or reduce the press file in Acrobat to get the best digial PDF file or doesn't it make a difference?
    The reason I ask is that is is much more time-consuming to do it in InDesign. Thanks.

    OH-NH, I have found there are factors that dictate what route I take to create multiple PDFs for the various scenarios. A lot of times I need to create an X-1a PDF for print production. But unfortunately, having a flattened PDF is not the best way to create an optimized digital version and using Acrobat is out of the question. If my print PDF does not have to be X-1a, I will usually export once, and then optimize in Acrobat, this removes the remote possibility of something mysteriouly changing from interacting with the file twice.

  • Best approach to creating a TOC for product catalog using data merge

    What is the best approach for creating a TOC for a product catalog (over 1,000 items) using Data Merge?
    The TOC would contain the product Categories.
    So for example, Category A items could go from pages 1 - 3, and Category B items would start at pg 4, but if new items were added to Category A, then Category B may start from pg 6.
    From the Data Source, there are 5 Data Fields I've chosen to be displayed.  If this were a regular digital print document, I could use the Paragraph Style method for creating a TOC, but if I make any one of the Data Fields a certain Paragraph Style and use that for the TOC, it'll populate the TOC with that Data Field for all the items.
    Any suggestions?

    Peter Spier wrote:
    TOC is not interactive in the ID file, though it can be in a PDF that you export (there's a checkbox to create PDF bookmarks). You might want to think about using Cross-references (rather than hyperlinks, I think) to build the TOC. You have to do it manually, but once done it should maintain itself, whereas a TOC is built automatically, but must be regenerated after you edit the doc.
    One caveat witih TOCs created from cross-references: Although changing the text of an x-ref source paragraph (for example from "Patatas and tamatas" to "Tomatoes and Potatoes,"and/or when the source paragraph flows to the next or previous page) update automatically or when invoking "Update cross-references," MOVING a cross-reference source paragraph to a location before or after another source paragraph, does not change their sequence in the pseudo-TOC. You'll need to manually move the reference in the pseudo-TOC to the correct position in the sequence of cross-refs. So, put the task of checking the order of x-refs in the pseudo-TOC on your before hand-off check list.

  • What is the best way of creating a one-time backup using DPM 2012R2?

    Hello,
    Due to some severe tape issues, we have lost a lot of our long-term storage data.
    I schedule a recovery point on our servers every Friday, once a week.  We retain this data for the 64 weeks (the maximum amount of versions DPM allows.)
    Management needs me to put one recovery point from each month to tape (preferably from the beginning of each month.)
    From the DPM console, I have been manually searching each server and running a recovery job from each "short term" recovery point we still have in the system.   I am recovering this data to a large disk array that I'm using as a staging
    area.  My intention is to take this data and put it onto tape using DPM and leave it there forever (20 years.)
    Since the space on the array is limited, I can only recover a few months at a time before having to delete the recoevered data to make way for the next group.
    The way DPM works it seems you must have a protection group for every backup job you run;  so if I have to repeat this process 8 times, I'll end up with 8 different protection groups all assigned to the host running the staging array.  NOTE:
    the host running the staging array will be wiped in the near future.
    What would be the best method to carry this task out ?
    This forum post is similar, but doesn't address all these additional groups created:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f379740c-4507-4a82-b275-c95e3e968b57/dpm-2012-r2-perform-one-time-backup?forum=dataprotectionmanager
    Any assistance would be welcome!

    Hi,
    What you can do is protect the staging server by using a single share - lets call it STAGING for simplicity.
    Perform your first set a restores and restore to the staging share, you can create meaningful subdirectories one for each data source you are restoring.
    Now protect the STAGING share using DPM - protect using long term to tape only, Frequency yearly, and set retention policy for 20 years.
    Perform an ad-hoc backup (right-click the data source and create recovery point to tape)
    When that completes, delete the sub-directories under the staging share and then repeat the process of restoring more data then backing up the same share.  When you are all done, you can remove the protection group, but maintain the tape backups
    so they will be available for restores.

  • XML in Oracle 9i (best method to return a xml file from a table query)

    Hello.
    What is the best method to query a table, or set of tables (that will return thousands of rows) using xml in oracle? (best performance)
    I'm currently using DBMS_XMLGen, is there a better method ?

    I think, if your talking about generating XML, that you should use XMLElement, XMLForest, etc. to create your XML.
    Lets assume that you base is relational data, then maybe the following great example will give you an idea how to do it : Re: Generate XML Schema from oracle tables
    As michaels pointed out (did you read the link/ URL given?), the general expectancy is that the packages will be less and less important. So also maintenance wise the XMLElement, etc way will be the best, also for the future, maintainable method.

  • Best Method To Upgrade Database From 8.0.5.2.6 to 9.2.0.5

    I have the following:
    Oracle 8 (8.0.5.2.6) Database running on a machine with Windows NT
    And I want to accomplish the following:
    Upgrade database to Oracle 9i (9.2.0.5) on a new machine running Windows Server 2003.
    I am looking for advice on the best method to accomplish this considering that I am changing three variables: 1)the database version, 2)the operating system, and 3)the physical location of the database.
    Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can provide.

    It depends upon how you want to do the export and import. Whether a full database export or just the schema containing the data, etc. based on that you will have to create the 10g database and perform the import. Below are some relevant documents:
