Best practice to get Divs to stay put !

Hi I am using DW CS4 to create my HTML and CSS for a wordpress template.
I am wanting the two div's below the header, Navigation and above the fold to be below that so..
HEADER
NAVIGATION
ABOVE-THE-FOLD
But as you can see http://www.epthemes.co.uk the above the fold div is wandering above the navigation! I have tried floated, not floated, clear both etc.
Help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Mark

Serves you right for using position absolute!
Have a look at the following

  • In the Begining it's Flat Files - Best Practice for Getting Flat File Data

    I probably should have posed this question here before I delved into writing Java to get data for reports, but better late than never.
    Our ERP is written in COBOL. We have a third party ODBC which allows us to access data using a version of SQL. I have several Java sources compiled in my database that access the data and return something relevant. The Java sources are written in a procedural style rather than taking advantage of object oriented programming with attributes and methods.
    Now that I am becoming more comfortable with the Java language, I would greatly appreciate any feedback as to best practices for incorporating Java into my database.
    My guess is that it would be helpful to model the ERP "tables" with Java classes that would have attributes, which correspond to the fields, and methods to return the attributes in an appropriate way. Does that sound reasonable? If so, is there a way to automate the task of modeling the tables? If not reasonable, what would you recommend?
    Thanks,
    Gregory

    OO is a choice not a mandate. Using Java in a procedural way is certainly not ideal but given that it is existing code I would look more into whether is well written procedural code rather than looking at the lack of OO.

You then implement using whatever means seem expedient in terms of other business constraints to closely model that data model.
    It is often the case that there is a strong correlation between data models and tables but certainly in my experience it is rare when there are not other needs driven by the data model (such as how foreign keys and link tables are implemented and used.)

  • Best practice in getting compliance rates of Software Update Deployments

    Hi,
    Would like to ask around on how others generate reports about software update deployment compliance. What do you use to get this report? Are there best practices for gathering software update compliance reports?

    There is not really a best-practice on reports that you need to use for compliancy on software updates. One of the reports I often use to check the compliancy is
    Compliance 1 - Overall compliance as it provides a good overview of a specific collection for an update group. For more details you can use
    Compliance 3 - Update group (per update).

  • Best practices for graphic divs and classes

    Nice day webmates, I am looking for good and simple tutorials
    on creating divs with attractive looks, such as rounded corners,
    own-customized (made in FW), displaying shadows... so I can type
    content inside them... what are the best practices for this ?
    thanks a lot in advance...

    Bad example. When you increase text size that site becomes
    unusable.
    Best practice, don't use absolutely positioned divisions (aka
    layers).

  • CSIs best practice to get the best oracle deals

    One company acquired multiple small companies, now time to re-new oracle support , we have 7 CSIs and paying for all of them, 6 of them with quantity 1-2 (and not sure even anybody using it) , any way to check if someone using that CSIs?
    one with quantity 50 (Oracle Database Enterprise Edition) >>this one only DBAs need and using it....
    What the best practice in this case to utilize/get best support @ best price? My idea is to just consolidate all CSIs in one and ask for oracle any discounts...make me right if i am not, new to this topic.....

    I think you can go on MOS for each of those CSI's and create an administrator who can look to see what has been used (if you are asking how to see if anyone is using support). Note that this can be completely misleading, as someone may be using one CSI to, say get patches for all the supported environments. You might also think who needs to get notified, support is pretty inflexible about it.
    I someone disagree with what ajallen said about the purchasing department doing these negotiations, as I have seen, er, a wide variety of ability there. It might be worth it to get one of those license specialist companies, though I wouldn't know which are good. From what I've seen, Oracle will try to charge you to desupport unused licensing, and sometimes do other nasty things if you have hardware on their poop-list (think hp). On the pollyana side, if you can dangle a potential database consolidation sale in front of them, they might play nice.

  • Best practice for getting all Activities for a Contact

    Hello,
    I am new to the Eloqua API and am wondering what is the best practice for downloading a list of all activities for a given contact.
    Thanks

    Hi Mike,
    For activities in general, Bulk 2.0 Activity Exports will be the best way to go. Docs are here: http://docs.oracle.com/cloud/latest/marketingcs_gs/OMCBB/index.html
    But it can be a complex process to wrap your head around if you're new to the Eloqua API. So if you're in a pinch and don't care about the association of those activities to campaigns, and only need to pull activities for a few contacts, you can resort to using REST API calls.
    The activity calls are visible (from Firebug or Chrome console) if you open any contact record and navigate to the "Activity Log" tab. If you have it set to all activities, it will fire off a dozen or more calls or you can choose an individual one from the picklist to inspect that call in more detail.
    Best regards,

  • What's the best practice to get App Module on Jdev 10.1.3 using Struts/ADF?

    Hi,
    I read Mr. Muench's post stating that the best way to execute an App. Module method is to make the method part of the client interface and then drag and drop it on a form as a button ...
    In another post Muench says that a another way to get the App Module is using getDataProvider() method, I tried and found that this worked in:
    // standard event handler interface
    // on PageController class
    public class MyFormPageController extends PageController
    public void onUpdate(PageLifecycleContext ctx)
    AMServImp am;
    am = (AMServImpl)ctx.getBindingContext().getDefaultDataControl().getDataProvider();
    am.myMethod( ... );
    am.getTransaction().commit();
    I really like the second option because is closer to what I used to do in 10.1.2 with an event handler receiving DataActionContex parameter. Besides, is not clear to me in the former method with the drag and drop how the form inputs are assigned to the method parameters ....
    I would like to know however what is the best way and why ?
    Any comments ?

    According to JSR 227, which ADFm is implementing, the view/controller portions of your application aren't really supposed to be touching the business services, or even the data controls, at all. They're supposed to do all model manipulation entirely through the databindings.
    This is just another bit of "code separation"--much like MVC code separation--that should make the application a bit easier to maintain. Your application module could change dramatically--maybe even be replaced by an EJB session bean--and all you have to do is change the .dcx file and your page model files, rather than searching through your code. Maintainability and readability is the advantage here; I don't think there could possibly be any slowdown by calling ctx.getBindingContext().getDefaultDataControl().getDataProvider(), since that's what the bindings would do anyway.
    Well, of course there's the "ADF supports going this way declaratively", which is not to be sneezed at as an advantage.
    As to how to put the form values in to the method binding: Look up the <af:setActionListener> tag (e.g., using full-text search in the help). You can nest that into your commandButton or commandLink tags and use it to set method parameters.

  • Java - best practice for getting values from complex dialogs

    Hi,
    Java is a language I use quite a bit, but much of my work hasn't required GUIs. Now, I'm developing an app which will contain a number of custom-made dialogs (which will obviously extend JDialog). Take a typical Options dialog which typically stores many parameters for a given application.
    Simple dialogs that ship with Java allow to 'get' a given value. As they assume that the dialog only consists of obtaining a single piece of data, think JFileChooser.
    So, what is the best way to cope with a dialog that could potentially hold hundreds of parameters? It's surely unfeasible to implement getters for each field. I was thinking either creating a hashmap object to hold key-value pairs, and 'get' that from the dialog. Or, I could encapsulate that a little more by creating a new class that manages these values, ProgramOptions or such like. That can be passed around between the dialog and the main app.
    I hope this makes sense
    TIA

    sudman1 wrote:
    I doubt it's the most efficient method, but the way I've delt with things like this in the past is to set up the fields in either an Array or ArrayList, then use a for loop that gets the data and drops it into an Array/ArrayList which is then returned.
    class MyDialog extends JDialog {
    // Global variable
    private ArrayList dialogFieldsArray= new ArrayList();
    private void initGUI() {
    for (int i=0 ; i <numRequiredFields ; i++) {
    dialogFieldsArray.add(new JTextField(10));
    private ArrayList getDialogData() {
    ArrayList rval = new ArrayList();
    for (int i=0 ; i < dialogFieldsArray.size() ; i++) {
    String tempString = ((JTextField) dialogFieldsArray.get(i)).getText();
    rval.add(tempString);
    return rval;
    The only thing to remember with the above method is the castings involved, but you could implement your own subclasses of ArrayList that deal only with JTextFields and Strings seperately to get around that.
    I personally wouldn't go for this exact style, instead I'd opt for a Map collection instead. This because you need to know which field is at which exact index. Imagine you make a form that has the fields: forename, surname, date of birth. And so you know that forename is .get(0) of your ArrayList, etc.
    But then, you decide to put a new field, saluation (Mr, Miss, etc) at the beginning. This now shifts all your olds fields along by one, and so you need to edit that code. Sure, no biggie with a handful of fields, but large dialogs could cause headaches.

  • Best practice of getting request parameters in JSP page

    int period_Id = 0;
    try
    period_Id = Integer.parseInt(request.getParameter("period_id"));
    catch(Exception e)
      period_Id = 0;
    }This is the normal way we use to get parameters from previous page.
    But I am not sure if it is thebest practice.
    Please respond if anyone knows a better way.
    Regards

    Using java code in a JSP is a horrible practice. There are far better ways to write JSP's nowadays in the form of custom tags, JSTL and possibly JSF. Combined with servlets this will make your code clean, reusable and maintainable.
    However if you insist and using scriptlets, I'd say create your own request bean that wraps around the HttpServletRequest and write methods getParameterInt(), getParameterDouble(), etc. Such a method could look like this:
    public int getParameterInt(String name, int default)
    String paramstr = request.getParameter(name);
    if(paramstr == null || paramstr.length() == 0){
      return default;
    try{
       return Integer.parseInt(paramstr);
    } catch(Exception e) {
      return default;
    }With such a bean you never have to do that exception catching yourself again: you can just pass the parameter name and a default value that will be returned if the parameter does not exist or is not a valid integer.

  • Best practice for getting a satellite fix

    I'm having problems getting a GPS satellite fix and would like to make sure I'm going about it the right way.
    Menu / GPS / GPS Data brings up message searching for GPS satellites
    Position reports back Waiting for GPS
    Options / Satellite status generally returns No Satellite Data Available.  On some occasions I get up to 5 outlined bars with various changing numbers by the side of them.  Sometimes these outlined bars turn black.  Is this the satellite search ?  Do I only get a fix when 5 bars go black ?
    What other setting should I check to help this process ?
    From Ovi Maps / My Position all I get is a red dot, followed by the  message Connection Failed.  Will I be able to get any map to appear without getting a full set of satellite data ?
    My reading of other posts on this forum seem to indicate that it takes up to 20 minutes in the middle of a field to get a full set of satellite data, and then it will be lost as soon as I get into a car.  If this is really the case, the "functionality" is next to useless.  Please tell me this is not the case.
    John.

    I've found something funny about the satellite reception. When I just got my E52 I couldn't get it to work, no matter in what application (GPS Data or Ovi Maps). I tried leaving it outside for an hour, in different weather conditions, everything. I don't use A-GPS, only the satellite signal.
    Everything changed when I installed Garmin. After first run it took some 20 minutes to get a signal lock, and since then it works perfectly. Now it only takes 1-2 minutes to get coordinates. Both in Garmin, Ovi Maps, and GPS Data. I am amazed by it's reception capabilities, I can hold my phone down in the car (next to the hand brake) and it never looses signal. I used it in back of a van, even inside a building with large windows.
    It's like Nokia's own programs don't know how to start using the GPS receiver, they need Garmin to show them.
    The outlined bars you're talking about are satellite indicators. When a bar is only outlined it means your phone receives that sat.'s signal but not strong enough. Your phone needs to get a strong signal (when a bar is full or almost full) from at least 4 satellites to be able to give you coordinates. Just keep trying, it should start.

  • Best practice for aligning divs

    i am trying to align my left nav to the top of my .swf. I am new to CSS and I can't figure this out. I appreciate any help you can offer.
    thanks in advance.
    http://www.d1082919.mydomainwebhost.com/part2/home.html

    Your navigation images are surrounded by a paragraph tag <p></p>. By default paragraphs have margin and padding assigned so you need to zero it out. Add the css below to your collection of css styles:
    #sidebar1 p {
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    However you dont need the paragraph tag around the images so the cleanest way would be just to remove it.

  • Best Practice on Updating From a DB

    Hi Everyone,
    What are some best practices surrounding getting data from an oracle database into the cache layer when a data change event (insert, update, delete) happens? I've searched far and wide and the best answer I can find is to use Extractor/Replicator -> JMS -> Subscriber -> cache.
    Thank you for your help.

    You're right, DCN is interesting idea, but it's again the case where technology is working on simple Hello World things, but fails to deliver on real word.
    To me DCN looks like an unfinished Oracle project, lot of marketing stuff, but poor features, it's good mostly to student's works or testlabs, but not for real world complexity.
    Two reasons:
    1.DCN has severe limitations on complexity of joins and queries in case you plan to use query change notification feature.
    2. it puts too bug pressure on database by creating a tons on events, when you don't need and don't expect them, because it's too generic.
    Instead of DCN, create ordinary Oracle AQ queues, using tiny SQL object type event as a payload, then create triggers and/or PL/SQL stored procedures, which ale filling the event with all the primary keys you need and the unique ID of the object you need to extract.
    Triggers will filter out unnesessary updates, sending events only when you wish.
    If conditions are too complex for triggers, you may create & place events either by call from the event source app itself or on scheduled basis, it's entirely up to you. Also, technique with creating object views + using instead of trigger on this object view works pretty well.
    And finally, implement listener at Coherence side, which will be reading the event, making necessary extracts & assemble Java object ready to be placed into the cache, based on the event ID and set of event's primary keys. After Java object will be assembled, you can place it into the cache.
    Don't use Hibernate, TopLink or any other relational-to-object frameworks, they're too slow and add excessive and unnecessary overhead to the process, use standard Oracle database features, they're much faster and transaction-safe. Usage of these frameworks within 10g or 11g database is obsolete and caused mainly by lack of knowledge among Java developers about database features on this regard.
    In order to make a whole system fail-safe and scalable, you have to implement listener in fail-safe fashion, in a form of workmanager + slave processes, spawned on the other nodes.Work manager has to be auto fail-safe and auto scalable, so that if the node holding work manager instance fails due to cache cluster member departure or reset or smth else, another workmanager is automatically spawned on first available node.
    Also, workmanager should spread & synchronize the work among the slave listener processes based on the current cache cluster members, automatically re-balancing and recovering work in case of cache member join/departure.
    Out-of-the box Coherence has an implementation of workmanager, but it's not fail-safe and does not provide automatic scale-up/recover work features described above, so you have to implement your own.
    All the features I've described are implemented and happily used in complex OLTP + workflow system backed up by big Oracle RAC cluster with huge workload, processing millions transactions per day.
