Best Practice to validate Master Detail Entity relationship

Hi,
I have the following validation requirement:
In a master detail relationship ensure that the user has completed at least 4 detail records for the master record.
My question is where this logic should be implemented, if I add this logic to the master EO how do I navigate the detail recordset and ensure that the records have been completed? Should I use a VVO, if so how do I get the detail records when they havnt been commited yet?
Thanks
Keith

I have a potential solution for this.
If I post the changes using trx.postChanges this will syncronise the entity cache with the database, it wont run validation and it wont commit the data, a subsequent commit immediately after my postChanges will fire validation and due to the fact that I previously posted the changes the data is available to the entity experts.
Does anyone have any views on this approach to validating data across entity objects and across records.

  • Use Best Practice to Import Master Data

    Hi,
I am SAP beginner, i glad someone can guide me on my issue. How can I using best practice to import 1000++ material master data into SAP system ??? I already prepared the data in Excel spreadsheet. Can any one guide me on step?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
LSMW is a very good tool for master data upload. The tool is very rich in features is also complex. Being a beginner you should check with a consultant to know how you can use LSMW to upload your 1000 + records. The tool too is quite intuitive. After entering the LSMW transaction you create the project, subproject and the object you are going to work on uploading. When u enter the next screen you see several radio buttons. Typically every upload required all the features behind those radio buttons and in the same sequence. It is not possible to give the details to be performed in each of these radio buttons in this forum. Please take a consultant's help in your vicinity.

  • Best Practices for Loading Master Data via a Process Chain

Currently, we load attributes, text, and hierarchies before loading the transactional data.  We have one meta chain.  To load the master data it is taking more than 2 hours.  Most of the master data is full loads.  We've noticed that a lot of the master data, especially text, has not changed or changed very little since we implemented 18 months ago.  Is there a precedence or best practice to follow such as do we remove these processes from the chain?  If so, how often should it be run?  We would really like to reduce the amount of the master data loading time.  Is there any documentation that I can refer to?  What are other organizations doing to reduce the amount of time to load master data?
    Thanks!
    Debby

    Hi Debby,
I assume you're loading Master Data from a BI system? The forum here are related to SAP NetWeaver MDM, so maybe you should ask this question in a BI forum?
Nevertheless, if your data isn't changed this much, maybe you could use a delta mechanism for extraction? This would send only the changed records and not all the unchanged all the time. But this depends on your master data and of course on your extractors.

  • What is the best practice for creating master pages and styles with translated text?

I format translated text all the time for my company. I want to create a set of master pages and styles for each language and then import those styles into future translated documents. That way, the formatting can be done quickly and easily.
What are the best practices for doing this? As a company this has been tried in the past, but without success. I'd like to know what other people are doing in this regard.
    Thank you!

I create a master template that is usually void of content, with the exception I define as many of the paragraph styles I believe can/will be used with examples of their use in the body of the document--a style guide for that client. When beginning a new document for that client, I import those styles from the paragraph styles panel.
Exception to this is when in a rush I begin documentation first, then begin new work. Then in the new work, I still pull in those defined paragraph and or object styles via their panels into the new work.
There are times I need new styles. If they have broader applicability than a one-off instance or publication, then I open the style template for that client and import that style(s) from the publication containing the new style(s) and create example paragraphs and usage instructions.
    Take care, Mike

  • Master-Detail Key relationship

    Hi All,
I am unsing EJB3.0 and Toplink POJO.
This is related to foreign key relationship. I am having two tables master and detail table. In both the table there is no record (Newly created table).
I want to design the page which will accept master value and detail value. i.e. Similar to display master-detail data using findAllquery object in Data Control Palette.
i.e. To accept input values for the newly created table. I design the page for the master table and created custom method to insert the record in the table.
But i want to design the page which will contain the detail part also in table format which will accept number of rows for to enter values in the table.
Finally i want to save it in both master and detail table when i click "Submit" action.
But i don't know how to implement the functionality for to accept the detail table part.
Please provide any link or sample or tips to design the page and to save the data.
Or we need to write custom method. Since we can't drag and drop the detail collection list from the findAllTable(). Its for to enter new record.

  • General Discussion - Best practice to manage Process order

    Hi Experts,
Which is the best practice to manage process orders ?
    1. Quantity Change - I can make quantity adjustment in R3 and APO.
    2. Source Change - I can make a version change from order header . Also i can make a source change in APO by selecting a different PPM. Which is the best option.
    3. Re Read Master Data - Best practice to read master data is from R3 or APO ?
I feel for all the above scenarios process ordes should always managed in R3. But still wondering why we have the same flexibility in APO too ?

    Hello,
we are just migrating from 4.6c to ECC 6.0 and I have a couple of workflows to adopt.
For background steps I defined in the corresponding BOR methods an exception to be fired when no result is available (e.g. no mail address available). Normally, I defined them as temporary errors.
I activated in the WI outcome section the line for this exception and so the workflow processed this branch when the exception appeared. It worked fine.
Now, in ECC 6.0, the same workflow get stuck in the WI. The exception is fired (I can see it in the log as "Error message"), but the WI is still in status "in process". It doesn't continue with the error outcome branch.
Is this a new logic in ECC 6.0? Do you have any idea what to do? I used this logic some dozent times in different methods and workflows and it gives me a headache if I have to change everything ...
    Thank you!

  • Best practice for linking fields from multiple entity objects

I am currently transitioning from PHP to ADF. I'm looking for the best practice for linking data from multiple entity objects.
    Example:
EO 'REQUESTS' has fields: req_id, name, dt, his_stat_id, her_stat_id
EO 'STATUSES' has fields: stat_id, short_txt_descr
'REQUESTS' is linked to EO 'STATUSES' on: STATUSES.stat_id = REQUESTS.his_status_id
'REQUESTS' is also linked to EO 'STATUSES' on: STATUSES.stat_id = REQUESTS.her_status_id
    REQUESTS.his_status_id is independent of REQUESTS.her_status_id
    When I create a VO for REQUESTS, I want to display: REQUESTS.name, REQUESTS.dt, STATUSES.short_txt_descr (for his_stat_id), STATUS.short_txt_descr (for her_stat_id)
What is the best practice for accomplishing this? It appears I could do it a few different ways:
    1. Create the REQUESTS VO with a LOV for his_stat_id and her_stat_id
    2. Create the REQUESTS VO with the join to STATUSES performed within the query for the VO. This would require joining on the STATUSES EO twice (his_stat_id, her_stat_id)
    3. I just started reading about View Links - would that somehow do what I'm looking for?
I also need to be able to update his_status_id and her_status_id through the by selecting a STATUSES.short_txt_descr from a dropdown.
Any suggestions on how to approach such a stupidly simple task?
Using jDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0 if that makes a difference in the solution.
    Thanks ahead of time,
    CJ

    CJ,
I vote for solution 1 as it's just your use case. As you said you what to update the his_status_id and her_status_id through the by selecting a STATUSES.short_txt_descr by a drop down. This is exactly the LOV solution.
ViewLinks are used fro master detail navigation (which you don't do here) and Joining the data make it difficult to update (and you still need a LOV for the drop down box.

    Hi timo,
    Thanks for ur reply...
    we are using unbounded taskflow.
In Controller class(page def file), we refered the class that implements PagePhaseListener
The following override methods has created
      public void afterPhase(PagePhaseEvent pagePhaseEvent) {
//In this area we used to read the session object file which is written and sent by another application(application to application navigate).
If session object file exists, will allow the user to navigate into the requested page else will navigate in to login(security aspect).
      public void beforePhase(PagePhaseEvent pagePhaseEvent) {
Is we used Controller class wrongly ???
Is there any relationship with region controller???

  • Is it possible to create Detail entity row before Master entity row?

    Hi All,
I have a Master - Detail relationship. When I insert a row into the detail entity, I need to create a corresponding master record. Is this even possible? I've been fiddling with different association relationships, this.setNewRowState() commands, etc. for the past 12 hours and haven't made much progress. I came across this: http://adfjsf.blogspot.com/2010/12/row-statusinitialized-and-statusnew.html which gives me hope, but I can't for the life of me figure it out.
Basically, I'm trying to override the Detail entity's create method with the following:
        RowSet addressId = (RowSet)this.getDocAddresses();
        NameValuePairs nvp = new NameValuePairs();
        Row row = addressId.createAndInitRow(nvp);
        row.setNewRowState(STATUS_INITIALIZED);
addressId.insertRow(row);I get a "Detail entity Quotes with row key [null] cannot find or invalidate its owning entity" error. If I take off the composition association, I get an error saying the Qutoes row cannot be created.
If you want to checkout my use case, you can do so here: How to create a master entity record from the detail entity.
    Any ideas?
    Will

    Here's another use case.
In accounting software, documents such as Invoices and Deliveries create financial transactions. So say we have three tables: Deliveries, Invoices, Transactions. In the database, Transactions needs to be a Master table, Deliveries and Invoices the Detail table. This means that Deliveries and Invoices must have an associated financial transaction. To switch the dependencies around the other way (Order/Deliveries be the Master, Transactions the Detail) wouldn't work due to the foreign key dependencies i.e. The same transaction would have to be a child of both Orders and Deliveries, which would be incorrect.
However, in the JDeveloper application an Invoice row (the Detail) would need to be created first, and then the Transaction (Master) would be created second. This seems like a logic sequence best created at the entity level. When I try to accomplish this, I get a row null or row cannot be created error. This is leading me to believe that in the JDev application, I will need to "lie" and reverse the association, putting the Delivery/Invoice as the Master and the Transaction as the detail.
Is this the best way to go about solving this problem? I don't like putting in associations that don't match the database structure, but if I can't create a Master entity row from a Detail entity, it's looking like that's my best route.

  • How can I upload multiple files in a master detail relationship?

I would like to be able to upload several files for one record (a one to many relationship). I tried using a master detail form, but the tabular form does not support file browse. I've searched the forum and found several examples asking how to upload multiple files at once. That is not what I'm trying to do. I simply want the user to browse, select a file, provide a file name and description. Then select the next file. When they are done selecting files (it may be one file or many files) I want them to hit the submit button and I'll run a procedure that saves the files to the database.
How can I do this? Thanks, you guys are the best. Elizabeth

    Elizabeth,
I had this situation come up once and here's what I did, thought it may not be exactly what you're looking for.
I created a collection to store the ID's of the files that had been uploaded, along with the key and other information. The file browse input will upload your files into the wwv_flow_files table on submit. I was storing the documents in another application table.
The after submit process grabs the id from wwv_flow_files where the name is = to your file input.
After you add that ID and your associated master key in the collection, your final submit process fetches the files from wwv_flow_files and inserts them into your own table.
I can put an example on apex.oracle.com if that would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Best Practice for Master Data Reporting

    Dear SAP-Experts,
We face a challenge at the moment and we are still trying to find the right approach to it:
Business requirement is to analyze SAP Material-related Master Data with the BEx Analyzer (Master Data Reporting)
Questions they want to answer here are for example:
    - How many active Materials/SKUs do we have?
    - Which country/Sales Org has adopted certain Materials?
    - How many Series do we have?
    - How many SKUs below to a specific season
    - How many SKUs are in a certain product lifecycle
    - etc.
The challenge is, that the Master Data is stored in tables with different keys in the R/3.
The keys in these tables are on various levels (a selection below):
    - Material
    - Material / Sales Org / Distribution Channel
    - Material / Grid Value
    - Material / Grid Value / Sales Org / Distribution Channel
    - Material / Grid Value / Sales Org / Distribution Channel / Season
    - Material / Plant
    - Material / Plant / Category
    - Material / Sales Org / Category
    etc.
So even though the information is available on different detail  levels, the business requirement is to have one query/report that combines all the information. We are currently struggeling a bit on deciding, what would be the best approach for this requirement. Did anyone face such a requirement before - and what would be the best practice. We already tried to find any information online, but it seems Master data reporting is not very well documented. Thanks a lot for your valuable contribution to this discussion.
    Best regards
    Lukas

Pass a reference to the parent into the modal popup. Then you
can reference anything in the parent scope.
    I haven't done this i 2.0 yet so I can't give you code. I'll
    post if I do.
Oh, also, you can reference the parent using parentDocument.
So in the popup you could do:
    parentDocument.myPublicVariable = "whatever";

  • Best Practice - existence of details

There are many ways to manage the question of existence of details. All will work. What I am interested in is Best Practice.
Example. There is a Customer table in the source, and there are Sales tables (order and detail). However, some people are recorded as Customers but there are no Sales associated with them. I am only interested in passing forward into the mapping a) customers signed-up in a recent date range and b) customers with an associated sales record i.e. an order. Obviously Sales are in a zero-to-one-or-many relationship with Customer.
In this scenario, I do not want any Sales data. I merely want to select Customers if Sales exist, and the Customers fit a category in Customer.
So, I am asking what the OWB experts here consider Best Practice to perform an IF EXISTS test on a related record. What would the mapping look like?
    Regards,
    Donna

Your solution should work, but test it against
expected results, as I am not familiar in detail with
your requirements. I did, and I get sub-second times. It is really fast.

    a) To create a bitmap index (non unique) in Oracle it
