Is there a Best Practices document that descibes SQL -> JDO migration.

SolarMetric does not. However, many of our users may have opinions.
Kodo does include a reverse mapping tool to auto-generate application
code and metadata which should help you get started. You should also
read our tutorials/examples which show some common use patterns from
basics to J2EE.

SAP Best Practices for Data Migration :repositories only on MS SQL Server ?

I'm implementing the "SAP Best Practices for Data Migration" (see https://websmp109.sap-ag.de/bp-datamigration).
As part of the installation you have to install MS SQL Server Express Edition. The installation guide contains detailed steps to do this. All repositories for Data Services should be running on SQL Server, according to the installation guide.
The customer I'm working for now does not want to use SQL Server, but DB2, as company standard.
So I use DB2 for the local and profiler repositories.
I notice however that the web application http://localhost:8080/MigrationServices does not support DB2.The only database type you can select in the configuration area is MS SQL Server.
Is this a limitation, a by design ?

Best practice for data migration install v1.40 - Error 2732 Directory manag

Hi
I'm attempting to install SAP Best Practice for Data migration 1.40 on Win Server 2008 R2 (64 bit).
Prerequisite error
Installation program stops with missing file error
The following file was not found
... \migration\InstallationWizard\BusinessObjects Data Services\setup.exe
The file is necessary for successful installation. Please connect to internet or refer to Quick Guide (available on SAP note 1527151) for information regarding the above file.
Windows installer log displays
Error 2732 Directory Manager not initialized
SAP note 1527151 does not exist or is internal.
Any help appreciated on what is the root cause of the error as the file does not exist in that folder in the installation zip file.
Other prerequisite of .NET 3.5.1 met already.
Patch is released since 20.11.2011 so I presume that it is a good installation set.

Best practice for database migration in 11g

Hello,
Database migration is required due to OS change. Here, I have two database instances say A and B in the old server where RDBMS_VERSION is 11.1.0.7.0. They need to be migrated into a new OS where the oracle has been installed with version 11.2.0.2.0.
Since all data + objects need to be migrated into the new server, I want to know what the best practice is and how to do that. Thanks in advance for your necessary guidance.

Hi Prosenjit,
you have some options.
1. RMAN Restore: you can restore your database via rman to the new host, and then upgrade it.
Please follow instruction from MOS Note: RMAN Restore of Backups as Part of a Database Upgrade (Doc ID 790559.1)
2. Data Guard: check the MOS Note: Mixed Oracle Version support with Data Guard Redo Transport Services (Doc ID 785347.1)
3. Full Export / Import (DataPump)

SAP Adapter Best Practice Question for Migration of Channels

I have a best practice question on the SAP adapter when migrating an OSB project from one environment (DEV) to another (QA).
If my project includes an adapter channel that (e.g., Inbound SAP Proxy listening on a channel), how do I migrate that project to another environment if the channel in the target environment is different.
I tried using the search and replace mechanism in the sbconsole, but it doesn't find the channel name in the jca and wsdl files.
What is the recommended way to migrate from one environment to the other when the channel name changes?

What is the best practice for voicemail migration?

I was seeing the DOC which says that
Cisco supports transfer of CUE licenses, with some restrictions. Transfer is supported for CUE devices that are of the same type, for an RMA or in cases in which a license was wrongly installed. This process is not intended for transferring licenses from one generation to another (for example, from NM-CUE to NME-CUE, or from NME-CUE to SRE devices). Transferring a license is accomplished using a process called rehosting. The rehosting process transfers a license from one UDI to another by revoking the license from the source device and installing in a new device

You can still speak to licensing team along with show license udi from SRE module along with old licenses details from NME-CUE fro rehosting.

Best Practice SQL Alias with Named Instance

We have a SQL server, "MySQLServerName" with a named instance, "MySQLInstance", running on port "12345".
I've created an SQL alias of "MySQLAlias" pointing to "MySQLServerName" Port on "12345" and it works.
But should I have used "MySQLServerName\MySQLInstance" Port "12345"?
Which is best practice?

As SQL Server named instance supports both static and dynamic ports, i think you can use the port number specified by you. By default, a named instance of SQL Server listens on a dynamic port. For a named instance of SQL Server, the SQL Server Browser service
for SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2005, or the SQL Server Resolution Protocol (SSRP) for SQL Server 2000 is always used to translate the instance name to a port, regardless of whether the port is static or dynamic. The Browser service or SSRP is never used for
a default instance of SQL Server.

Best practice for client migration from SMS 2003 to SCCM 2012 R2?

Can anyone advise what the most recommended method is for migrating SMS 2003 clients (Windows 7) to SCCM 2012 R2?
Options are:
1. SMS package to deploy ccmclean.exe to uninstall SMS 2003 client. Deploy SCCM 2012 R2 client via SCCM console push.
2. Simply push SCCM client from console installing over existing SMS 2003 client.
I am finding some folks saying this is ok to do but others saying no it is not supported by Microsoft. Even if it appears to work I do not want to do it if it is not supported by Microsoft. Can anyone provide a definitive answer?
3. Use a logon script or Group Policy preference to detect the SMS client and delete it using CCMclean and then install the SCCM client.

I haven't seen any official document records the option 2 method. There is only upgrading from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 directly.
I think you could use a logon script or Group Policy preference to detect the SMS client and delete it using CCMclean.exe. Then use SCCM 2012 to discover these computers and push clients to them.

Data Migration and Consolidation Best Practices?

Hi guys
Do you know what the best practice for data migration to FCSvr is? We’re trying to consolidate all media on various firewire/internal drives to a centralised RAID directly attached to a dedicated server. We’ve found that dragging and dropping a FCP project file uploads its associated media. The problem is that if there are several versions or separate projects linking to the same media, associated media is re-uploaded everytime! This results in that media getting duplicated several times. It appears that the issue is due to FCSvr creating a subfolder for every project file being uploaded which contains all the project’s media.
This behaviour is not consistent when caching assets, checking out a project file, making changes and checking it back in. FCSvr is quite happy for a project file to link to media existing at the root level of the media device.
We are of course running the latest version of everything. Hope you can help as we’re pulling our hair out here!

Do you really need an ETL Tool for these loading processes. Have you considered doing it in sql/plsql. If the performance of the application is one of the main priority I would definitely consider doing it in sql/plsql.
Because of the huge amount of data and because your source and target systems are Oracle DBs I wouldn't recommend you to use Informatica.
Also because source and target are Oracle DBs and it should be near real time you should have a look at Oracle Streams.

Can anyone recommend tips and best practices for FrameMaker-to-RoboHelp migration ?

Hi. I'm planning a migration from FM (unstructured) to RH. I'd appreciate any tips and best practices for the migration process. (Note that at the moment I plan to import the FM documents into, not link to them from, RH.)
For example, my current FM files are presently not optimally "chunked", so that autoconverting FM file sections (based on, say, Header 1 paragraph layout) won't always result in an optimal topic set. I'm thinking of going through the FM docs and inserting dummy paragraphs with a tag somethike like "topic_break", placed in more appropriate locations that the existing headers. Then, during import to RH, I'd use the topic_break paragraph to demark the topics. Is this a good technique? Beyond paragraph-based import delineation, do you know of any guidelines for redrafting FM chapter file content into RH topics?
Also, are there any considerations/gotchas in the areas of text review workflow, multiple authoring, etc. after the migration? (I've not managed an ongoing RH doc project before, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, the main reason for the migration: Info is presently scattered in various (and way to many) PDF files. There's no global index. I'd like to make a RoboHelp HTML interface (probably WebHelp layout) so it can be a one-stop documentation shop for users.

Fm may produce better output for your requirements but for many what Rh produces works just fine. My recent finding re Word converting images to JPG before import will mean a better experience for many.
Once Rh is set up, and it's not difficult, for many its printed documents will do the job. I would say try it and then judge.

Best Practice to fetch SQL Server data and Insert into Oracle Tables

I want to read sqlserver data everry half an hour and write into oracle tables ( in two different databases). What is the best practice for doing this?
We do not have any database dblinks from oracle to sqlserver and vice versa.
Any help is highly appreciable?

Well, that's easy:
use a TimerTask to do the following every half an hour:
- open a connection to sql server
- open two connections to the oracle databases
- for each row you read from the sql server, do the inserts into the oracle databases
- commit
- close all connections
