Best transition for same shot of talking head

With nothing to cut away to, what are the acceptable transitions for the same shot of a talking head (after editing out unwanted footage)?
I've seen jumpcuts in some movies, but they were used more as effects.
How do you pros do it for corporate gigs?

a quick mix is often acceptable as it clearly shows that it is another grab not connected to the first. this is honesty in journalism approach. another method is to use a white flash to hide the cut, simulating a camera flash to some extent) ... either 1 or 2 frames of solid white, or a cut to white then 3 frame fade to the next shot, or 2 frame fade out from the first shot and 2 frame fade back to the next
check out effects > video transitions > dissolve > dip to color dissolve
you can even try simulating a film flash by using the color corrector and keyframing the luminance levels
play around and see which loks best in your edit

  • Best Practices for Removing Shots from BDMV folder

    CS6 Production Premium Suite
    Win7x64
    Canon XA10
I would appreciate feedback on the best practices for the following situation:
Using Windows Explorer, I copy the BDMV folder from the XA10 to my Talk2 project folder.
The BDMV folder has three one hour shots (talks) where each shot is one hour called Talk1, Talk2, and Talk3.
Each shot consists of several MTS files in the STREAM folder since MTS files have a maximum file size so a new MTS file is created when a given MTS file reaches the maximum file size.
Since I only want to have Talk2 stuff in my Talk2 project folder, I need to remove the Talk1 and Talk3 stuff from the BDMV folder.
I delete the Talk1 and Talk3 MTS files from the STREAM folder.
I delete the Talk1 and Talk3 CPI files from the CLIPINF folder.
I leave the PLAYLIST folder as is.
Using the Media Browser, I import Talk2 (which consists of two MTS files).
    I edit the clip.
This procedure seems to work, but I do not know if there are any "got you" issues.
    Thanks in advance.

Oh, don't do it that way.  I know a lot of people do, heck, my boss does, but it's just asking for trouble.
Treat your card as if it was your original tape master (because it is).  It is the most important thing you have.  Don't delete or move any part of it.
If you want to break up the talks, do it as you shoot them.  Use separate cards for each talk and archive each one separately.  There is too much valuable information in the structure of the card format.  You may not need it now but your editing program may need it later.
Hard drive space is cheap but digital recordings are priceless

  • Best Extractors for "Open Order Reporting" at Header and Line Level

    Hello Gurus,
I have a general question for you. For an Implementation in  Sales and Distribution, we have to do some "Open Order Reporting".
Kindly advise, what are my options for choosing the BEST extractors ( from Application area 11, 12, 13) to track the  "Open Order reporting".
You can also copy me at [email protected] for same. If this idea has already been discussed, kindly send me the mentioned link.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello BI project,
No I am still working on it and Problem is NOT solved. I took this project from the middle. Initial definition of Open Order was to report by tracking "Goods Movement Status" anything other then C as an Open Order. We were using 2LIS_11_VASCl and 2LIS_12_VCITM at that time. This process failed to track the "Partial Open Order"
It was soon realized that this definition is inadequate. Delivery Status in combination with Goods Movement Status should be accurately define an Open Order. I realized that if we install 0SD_C03 and supporting 7 exractors (Order: 2LIS_11_VAHDR, VAITM, V_ITM , Delivery : 2LIS_12_VCHDR, 2LIS_VCITM and Billing 2LIS_13_VDHDR, 2LIS_13_VDITM) - it will capture an Open Order more accurately. Also the design will integrate easily with future SCM Analytics more easily. I am still working on it and trying to install the Business Content.
I would like to get feedback and wisdom of someone who had done the same in past. I also want to get a feel, if it needed any additional customization of extractors etc.. If you could share any detail on this forum, it will be a help. You can also share the same on my e-mail: [email protected]
    Your any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Best Practice for Placing meta tags in HEAD of document

    Good afternoon,
We are utilizing Oracle UCM's ability to dynamically generate pages based on page templates, region templates, and contributor data files that contributors may edit and publish. We have a specific need to include meta tags in the head section of each page that are custom to the data present in each contributor data file. Including the meta tags in the region template that pertains to a section of our website does not work, as it does not include a <head> section. Alternatively, I can not place the meta tags in the page template, as the data in each meta tag is specific to the metadata surrounding each contributor data file.
My question is this: Is there a best practice, or Oracle-supported method of accomplishing this task? I have to believe there is some way to accomplish this, as the need for meta tags for social media sites and search engines is very common.
Thank you very much for your time,
    Josh

    Thanks for the reply, Jiri.
I believe that the answer is 'yes' to both of your questions above. I do have a question about the formatting of the meta tag itself, as my main question is how do I extract the needed information from a particular CDF so that it is displayed in the <head> section located in the page template.
I have a Region Definition for the content section of my page with a 'Title' field, which a contributor can fill in, save, and create a Contributor Data File with their own specified title. Let's also say that my page template, which formats the entire page, looks like this (rough):
    <html>
      <head>
      <title>Web page</title>
      </head>
      <body>
<!-- placeholder for header section -->
<!-- placeholder for content section -->
<!-- placeholder for footer section -->
      </body>
    </html>
What would my <meta> tag look like for the following:
      <meta property="og:title" content="Title of the content section"/>
    Let's name our templates/definitions:
    Page Template: PT_META
    Region Template: RT_META
    Region Definition: RD_META
    Contributor Data File: CDF_META
In other words, how do I extract the information included in the Contributor Data File (as well as its metadata) for use in the Page Template? Is there some sort of Idoc Script call that can be used?
    Thank you so much,
    Josh

  • Which FCP effects are used by pros for talking head corporate videos?

I'm trying to create a 'corporate' talking head web video look.
Which FCP effects are most useful for this?
On the one hand, I don't want to do effects just for the sake of doing effects, and distract from the message.
On the other hand, if it doesn't look interesting, the viewer isn't going to stick around for 30 seconds.
On the videoSellsYourMessage.com site, I've got a video on the Audio Visual tab with a race car background and sound effects along with text fade-ins and fade-outs.
Very simple and almost seems to work.
But, on the front page of that site, the abstract background just doesn't seem to cut it.
Besides needing to be re-shot with a less sleep deprived model, it's just lacking something (uh, like talent and creativity) - although the motion graphics & vocals at the end are maybe getting close?
Which FCP effects add to the message, rather than distract?
I'd love to see examples of what could be done with taking head commercial videos by a professionals using FCP.
    Thanks!

Basically, Andy is right. Bottom line...content is king. If the message is humdrum, you're in for some real creative brainstorming.
There are so many ways to approach this challenge. What should drive your creative, is an understanding of the 'Brand' you're promoting.
    Elements to consider:
    Tone and Style
    Color palette
    Font selection
    Pacing and edit flow.
What 'Promise' does the brand hold for the consumer?
Do you have access to corporate Broll or graphics that can help emphasize (sell) the message. That's the first thing I would look for. Use these to cut away from the straight up talking head.
Do you have the ability to create graphics or have someone on staff who can do this. If the corporation in question has a logo, graphics, website...you should use those elements to drive your creative choices...all chosen in order to re-inforce the 'Brand'.
Whizz-bang graphics, fast paced audio/visual cuts and vibrant colors might be great for the MTV generation, but if your product is geared towards 35-50 females, then you would tone things down. Or if the audience is 40 - 60 business types, you'd want visuals that projected confidence and stability...etc.
I don't think that answered your query, but (if you weren't already aware of the above blathering), I'm hopeful it will help guide you in your creative process.

  • Smallest file size for talking head, MPEG1?

Hey friends, back again, still using PRE8.
I have to encode a talking head into a watchable quality for a podcast. Prefer between 320x240 and 640x480, prefer the later. I inadvertently tried some combination of VCD 352x240 and got an amazingly small file size that looked tollerable....and no audio (that part not so good). I cannot figure out what I did, though I probably started out with VCD setting and modified one of the video or audio characteristics, multiplexer (who knows).
The file output was a m1v and was under 99MB for an hour and a half. Other formats have all been a gig or so.
Sure, no audio is a lot smallar (don't think I disabled audio, smarter than THAT) but I can't seem to get any kind of m1v file again, pref with the audio.
    Any thoughts?
While this will be viewed on a PC, we don't have a lot of bandwidth or storage space available currently. Fortunately, only graphics are at the start and end and don't have to be sharp, there is no whiteboard or other hard to encode detail.
    Thanks a lot
    Don

    Yup Steve, for the web.
I have tried everything twice by now, and can't seem to get it to produce a m1v file again............
You know what? Think I just figured it out.
I did a search of files with my working file name after creating an mpg (which is all I seem to be able to get, even with VCD settings. Anyway, I picked up the m1v file from who knows what directory. It MAY be that the m1v file is created by PRE8 in the process of creating the mpg, and left in one of its working directories, for re-use later. PRE8 probably never intended that to be used, because it's a video-only WORKING file...Make sense?
It's hard to believe, a working video file for a 800meg mpg is 99meg. and looks pretty good.  Add audio and it balloons to 800 meg? Makes no sense.
The best I can do is around 500 meg for a mpeg, and in generating a mp4, PRE8 does not change the predicted file size when you change the frame rate and hardly at all with the resolution. In mpeg 1 there is a big difference, as expected.
    Unfortunately cant use flash either.
It would be nice if there was a chart someplace that gave you file size comparrisons for the various encoders and options!

There should be no issues. Its designed to work like that.  You don't change Apple IDs just because you get a new device.

Unlikely. But nothing is impossible.   Though I don;t see how that would happen. As long as both are signed into the Same Apple ID / iCloud Account they will be N'Sync. (Bad Joke)

If I get a message or buy an app or take a photo on the iPhone 5, how do I get those things onto the iPhone 6?
If you buy an App, you have 2 ways to get it to the iPhone6: If Automatic Downloads is enabled in Settings->iTunes & App Store, it will automatically download to the iPhone 6 when you buy it on the 5 and vice versa if you buy it on the 6, it will download to the 5.
Alternatively, you can simply go to the App Store App->Updates->Purchased and look for the App there and download it. Purchased Apps will not require payment again. i.e They'll be free to download to the iPhone 6 once purchased.
SMS Messages will sync over using Continuity as long as they are on the same Wifi network. Otherwise, restoring the iPhone 5 backup to the iPhone 6 will transfer all messages received up until the backup was made onto the iPhone 6.
Images, can be transferred either through Photo Stream

Or any Cloud service you want such as Dropbox, or One Drive.

If you want the Continuity features as explained above you need to update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8. Otherwise its not all that important.

  • Is Rh the Best App for Managing 41 manuals, with many pages being the same?

I'd like to automate a labor intensive task that I will soon be assuming. We have 41 install manuals for an automotive accessory that fits 41 different models of vehicles. The current manual is 28 pages with at least 24 pages being identical. The documents are done in Word, along many pictures and drawings. When the document is finished, it is converted to a PDF and sent with the item. The pdf is also made available online for folks who may need the electronic version. When we change one page that is common to all, we have to manually update each Word file and then convert it. As you can imagine, the manuals don't get updated and corrected as often as they should
Since most of the pages are the same, I would like software that can manage changes to these pages and automatically update all manuals. For example, if a change is necessary on page 6 and 34 manuals use this page, I simply change one page and the software "exports" this new page to all affected manuals.
    1) Would Rh do this?
    2) Would it be the best choice for this task?
    3) If Rh is the best choice for this, what is the best approach for beginning this task? Get a book and read or just jump in?
    4) I came across a book written by a firm called GooberGuides, is this a good resource? Do you recommend a better one?
    5) Does my project require a special technique when setting it up in an app like Rh or is the process fairly intuitive? I don't want to waste time by implementing this incorrectly, only to start over again when I realize there was a better way.
I would be very grateful for any guidance you could provide.
    Thank you.
    Rodger

I don't think your questions were answered, except for the tool one, which is not the most important one. I would reverse your questions:
Does my project require a special technique? Yes! Single sourcing, which is a methodology for developing modular, reusable information, not a tool. Before you even approach a tool, you must analyze your content, define standards for it, define information types (Google for DITA), and convert it from linear (as your Word documents are) to modular.
I have not seen the GooberGuides book, but I can definitely offer these:
Content Managment for Dynamic Web Delivery - Jo Ann Hackos
DITA 101 - Anne Rockley, Charles Cooper, and Steve Manning
Introduction to DITA: A User Guide to the Darwin Information Typing Architecture - Jennifer Linton & Kylene Bruski
Managing Enterprise Content: A Unified Content Strategy - Anne Rockley
Single Sourcing: Building Modular Documentation- Kurt Ament
Tools - obviously since we're on the Adobe forum, Technical Communication Suite must be acknowledged. But you can accomplish single sourcing with several tools. Check out a brief overview of some at http://www.writersua.com/restools.htm.

  • Best Practice for SUP and WSUS Installation on Same Server

    Hi Folks,
I have a question, I am in process of deploying SCCM 2012 R2... I was in process of deploying Software Update Point on SCCM with one of the existing WSUS server installed on a separate server from SCCM.
A debate has started with of the colleague who says that the using remote WSUS server is recommended by Microsoft because of the scalability security  that WSUS will be downloading the updates from Microsoft and SCCM should be working as downstream
server to fetch updates from WSUS server.
but according to my consideration it is recommended to install WSUS server on the same server where SCCM is installed... actually it is recommended to install WSUS on a site system and you can used the same SCCM server to deploy WSUS.
please advice me the best practices for deploying SCCM and WSUS ... what Microsoft says about WSUS to be installed on same SCCM server OR WSUS should be on a separate server then the SCCM server ???
    awaiting your advices ASAP :)
    Regards, Owais

    Hi Don,
thanks for the information, another quick one...
the above mentioned configuration I did is correct in terms of planning and best practices?
I agree with Jorgen, it's ok to have WSUS/SUP on the same server as your site server, or you can have WSUS/SUP on a dedicated server if you wish.
The "best practice" is whatever suits your environment, and is a supported-by-MS way of doing it.
One thing to note, is that if WSUS ever becomes "corrupt" it can be difficult to repair and sometimes it's simplest to rebuild the WSUS Windows OS. If this is on your site server, that's a big deal.
Sometimes, WSUS goes wrong (not because of ConfigMgr)..
Note that if you have a very large estate, or multiple primary site servers, you might have a CAS, and you would need a SUP on the CAS. (this is not a recommendation for a CAS, just to be aware)

  • Best approach for publishing a paid version and an ad supported free version of the same app

    Hi,
One of my Windows 8 store app is almost ready for store submission.
What is the best approach for publishing a paid version and  an ad supported  free version of the same app.
    Can I do the following
    1. Submit the app with unlimited free trial to store
    2. During the free trial ads will be displayed
    3. If the user purchases the app, then the ad would not displayed
    Any advise is greatly
    appreciated.
    Best Regards

Although the in-App purchase option is good but for ad based apps my approach is different.
I would suggest putting 2 different apps in the store, one free with Ads and one without. Reason being you want the extra reference and xaml ad controls depending upon how
many you have on the paid version of the apps. I would keep my apps as lighter and cleaner as possible specially when its a paid app.
I currently manage both free and paid app through one solution and reuse most of the code except for the views.

  • Best method for keyframing with 3d camera 1 shot....

Hi I have a project I am working on and basically I am finding the key framing a little frustrating because I cant get the camera to do what I want. Ususally I have no problem in FCP but with Motion it doesnt seem as easy. Bascially what I have done is put up 7 of the same clip all in 3d spread down. What I want the camera to do is zoom close to one. Pause while you read what is on the clip then pan and zoom to the next one. The method I am doing is I hit the record button. Start the zoom to the first object then move timeline to where I want the camera to stop the zoom. I hit the record button again..wait a few frames and then hit it again so I can zoom to the next object. What seems to hahppen is the camera just starts moving to the other object and wont pause for those frames. I would like to know the best method for making this possible. Thanks

    hi,
edit them all! Just select them all and choose linear from the control pop up.
if that doesnt work, maybe you could try setting keyframes manually, like you would in FCP. You dont turn on the red button at all, but add keframes for the parameters you want to animate in the Inspector window.
Sometimes I find I have to add two keyframes a frame apart to give that definite stop. This also allows me to play with the timing of the pauses. So set a keyframe where the camera starts to move and one where it stops. Then a frame on set another keyframe without changing the values, then go to the next point you want the camera to move and set another keyframe.... and so on.

I have all CS4 programs and I'm looking to make a header that contains an interactive rollover nav bar. I want the bar to be located within the header. What is the best program for creating the header and rollover buttons. I'm aware i could manipulate the images in other programs, but placement and rollover button creation is what I'm looking for. Thanks. I'm thinking maybe flash or fireworks?

Spry can do this for you.  See some samples here:

Or there are commercially available menu systems from the likes of companies like Project Seven, whom I would personally recommend:

  • BEGINNER: Best Framerate for smooth transitions

My animation is jagged in movement.
What would be the best framerate for a smoother transition?
Right now I'm using the default 12FPS
Should I make it higher or lower and if so, by how much?
    This is the animation:
    http://www.tarilynquinn.com/site/SE_INDEX.html
    Help would be much appreciated.

Higher framerates do make for smoother animations -- up to a point. Depending upon how many things you have going on and the computer in use a really high frame rate can cause some machines to choke and then it will look worse than a lower frame rate.
I recommend getting a rate that you work at and that you tailor all your designs to meet work at that rate. That way if you need to combine assets later they will be compatible. And you will have a feeling for the rate.
At work we are now doing everything at 24 and at home I use a 30. I think both of those are pretty reasonable and that most machines these days will be able to handle those rates.
Of course there are always times when for a very specific reason I might use a different rate, but I only do that knowingly and not just because, "eh, seems like a good idea."

what is the best FC Pro Easy Set up for video shot with an iPhone 4?

There isn't one. You have to convert the media to one of the ProRes codecs, probably ProRes LT would work best. You need to do this in Compressor.
Easy setup isn't relevant as it's options are for tape based media, which this isn't.
