Best way to handle multiple currencies

I have a requirement that users should be able to report against an OLAP cube in a currency of their choice (from a list of about 20) and was wondering what the best way to handle this might be.
One option would be to have a currency dimension containing the list of valid currencies and then to pre-calculate measures in each of the currencies and store them in the cube. However the downside of this is that the resultant cube would be 20 times larger than a cube in a single currency, take longer to maintain etc. I could of course partition the cube by currency to improve reporting performance since users would only report in one currency at a time.
Another alternative would be to dynamically calculate the measures based on exchange rates - I guess this could either be done in the cube itself or as part of the reporting code. However since exchange rates are daily, this would obvioulsy prevent me from aggregating data up the time dimension (all measures are at the day level).
Is there any standard way of doing this and what are the pro's and con's?
Thanks,
Chris

Sorry - messed up - I should have posted this in the OLAP forum.....

  • Best Ways to Handle Multiple Users

First post....heres my question. Can anyone help me determine the best way to handle multiple users in itunes? Some Background:
My family shares one computer. We have on folder on the hard drive where we keep all our music files. I got an ipod and itunes and added some of the music to itunes and have pretty much used itunes for my music.
Now my girlfriend got an ipod and I am hoping to somehow keep her music away from mine so to speak. So that I can keep synching my ipod without adding a bunch of music I dont want.
Is there a way to handle this? So thankfull for any help!

There is an apple article on this here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
It sounds as though method 1 would be best for you.
Also see how to keep the music files in one place to avoid duplication:

  • Best way to organise multiple large clips and hundreds of subclips

    Situation
I have the task of producing a suite of short 2 minute videos comprising highlights of several hours of footage in multiple large files.
I want to extract and manage the highlights in a non-destructive way and organise them according to subject matter.
I would then use these in several projects to create the highlights videos required.
I am using Adobe CC, so it's CS6.
My approach so far is to:
    1. Import all the footage into a single project as individual large clips
    2. Scrub through each clip, set in/outs and extract to subclip, store in subject matter bin
    My questions:
    1.  if I go back to the original footage and edit it, it doesn't seem to flow through to the subclips. How do I make the subclips inherit the attributes of their parent? (e.g. could be sound, colour, etc)
    2. how do I access these highlights bins from another project?
    3. is this the best way to handle my situation?
    Thanks for your input.
    Ric

I suppose applying the effects to the source clip and rendering out a new source file is one way of doing it.  Just be very careful that you don't compress the output.  And, of course, it will double the amount of hard drive space.  I'd still make all the sub-clips first and use the "paste attributes" command.  I think you can even lasso a whole bunch of clips and paste attributes to all of them at once (they have to be in the timeline, though - not the project panel).
It shouldn't take an awful lot of hard drive space to duplicate projects.  Just duplicate the "prproj" file, not the whole projects folder (and certainly not the source material).
Here's a screen shot of my set-up for a complicated, 5-camera shoot of a play:
The original project (syncing all the cameras up) is 1 MB, each successive archive gets a little bigger but the current project is only 3.8 MB.  I would imagine if you are deleting bins and sequences for the mini-projects, the prproj file would actually get smaller than the original master.
Okay.. so here's the mantra about non-tape based video... First you back up the card (including the complete folder structure) onto an archive drive.  Next you copy this folder onto an external or RAID or other "real" archive drive.  Then (and only then) do you start editing the material!
Ideally, you need at least three, physically separate harddrives (not partitions) in an editing station (this is true Windows or Mac).  One drive for the operating system and applications only (no media or projects or anything!).  One for working projects (each project in its own folder) where everything except the source video is stored.  And finally one for the source video.  On my system my OS drive is Tardis ('cuz I'm a geek!).  I have a Projects drive for projects (duh!) a Scratch drive for working video files and an Archive for "finished" projects waiting delivery and back-back-ups of my SD cards.

  • Best Way to Sync Multiple iPhones/Ipads

    Hi folks,
We're new to Apple computing and preparing for new iPhones and an iPad as a start. Would like to make sure we use the best setup for our main iTunes computer at home.
I understand one computer running iTunes can sync with up to three iPhones or iPads, is this correct? We'll have two iPhones and one iPad to start, we're thinking about building a master library of music, videos, and apps on the main home computer and syncing to all three devices - is that the best way to handle it? Are the Apps licensed to run on multiple devices, or do you have to buy a license for each device?
    Thanks.
    Pat

I'm a bit new to this also, but now have an iPod Touch and an iPad, and am syncing them both to one iTunes computer. Seems to be working fine. iTunes recognizes which device is currently connected and maintains separate sync configurations for each.
I have the iPod Touch set up to automatically sync all music, videos, podcasts, etc, when connected. (All but the ones unchecked in the library listing, this is only 10 or so high res videos that I want to sync only to the iPad.) So the iPod Touch is essentially set to sync everything but a few exceptions.
Then the iPad I have configured to only sync selected files. Those are the high res movies I want only on the iPad, a few of the apps, some music videos, etc. So the iPad is set up kind of opposite to how the iPod is set. That is, instead of syncing almost everything, sync only those items explictedly selected.
So when I add a new for example high res movie to the iTunes library, I unchecked it in the library listing which prevents it from being synced to the iPod, and I checked it on the movie tab of the iPad device so that it IS synced to the iPad.
    Works fine.
At this point most of my apps sync to the iPod Touch. I have a few like the Kindle app, USA Today, etc that are also synced to the iPad also. Those were free so I guess no problem with licensing.
I did briefly try additionally syncing a 99-cent game to both the iPod and the iPad and that worked fine. Not sure if this will hold for all paid-for apps or not.
Anyway, good luck with your new setup.

    Hi,
I've done a great deal of work with mobile accounts in Snow Leopard and I'm now having a "play" with Lion. To be honest you have to sit down and think about why you need mobile accounts.
If your user only uses one computer then your safer having a local account backed up by a network Time Machine, this avoids the many many woes that the Servers FileSyncAgent brings to the table.
If your users are going to be accessing multiple computers on the network and leaving the network then a mobile account is good for providing a uniform user experience and access to files etc. However, your users will have to make a choice as to whether they want their iPhoto libraries on one Local machine (backed up by Time Machine) or whether they want their library to be hosted on the server and not part of the Mobile Home Sync schedule (adding ~/Pictures to the excluded items on the home sync settings).
With the latter, users will be able to access their iPhoto libraries on any computer when they are within the network (as it's accessed from the users server home folder).
With the first option the user would have their iPhoto library on one computer (say the laptop they used the most) but then would not be able to access it from other computers they log on to.
iPhoto libraries are a pain, and I'm working hard to come up with a workaround. If your users moved over to using Apeture then you could include the aperture library as part of the home sync thanks to Deeport (http://deepport.net/archives/os-x-portable-home-directories-and-syncing-flaw-wit h-bundles/)
He does suggest that the same would work with IPhoto libraries - but it doesn't for a number of mysterious reasons regarding how the OS recognizes thie iPhoto bundle (it does so differently compared to Apeture).

  • Best way to handle multi-page documents?

    Hi,
I'm creating a multi-page editor on top of TLF and I'd like to hear some opinions about the best way to handle multi-pade documents.
    I'm basicaly considering two options:
1.) A single RichEditableText and several ContainerControllers.
    2.) Several RichEditableText.
    Tks.

I'm not sure you can create a RichEditableText and give it multiple ContainerControllers. If you use multiple RichEditableText
components, then you will have to decide in advance which text goes in which one.
We have posted sample code for doing this in straight ActionScript, which you could presumably also host inside a Flex container. See:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/tlf/examples/
    Look for "ActionScript Pagination Example".

  • Best way to handle Christmas music - Playlist or separate Library?

Anyone have a suggestion about the "best" way to handle Christmas music?
After reading the article below I'm tempted to create a new library for Christmas music... that way I can keep it on an external drive or even DVD.
    http://www.allthingsmarked.com/2006/09/13/howto-manage-multiple-libraries-in-itu nes-7/

My solution to this is to add the tag "Xmas" to the "Grouping" field of each Christmas song.
This little tag stays tucked away out of sight until Christmastime. Then, I create a new Smart Playlist where Grouping contains "Xmas." Voila.
The Grouping field can be useful for non-genre distinctions you want to add to your music, likesay "live" or "remix" or "cover."

  • (workflow question) - What is the best way to handle audio in a large Premiere project?

    Hey all,
This might probably be suitable for any version of Premiere, but just in case, I use CS4 (Master Collection)
I am wrestling in my brain about the best way to handle audio in my project to cut down on the time I am working on it.
This project I just finished was a 10 minute video for a customer shot on miniDV (HVX-200) cut down from 3 hours of tape.
I edited my whole project down to what looked good, and then I decided I needed to clean up all the Audio using Soundbooth, So I had to go in clip by clip, using the Edit in SoundBooth --> Render and Replace method on every clip. I couldn't find a way to batch edit any audio in Soundbooth.
For every clip, I performed similar actions---
    1) both tracks of audio were recorded with 2 different microphones (2 mono tracks), so I needed only audio from 1 track - I used SB to cut and paste the good track over the other track.
    2) amplified the audio
    3) cleaned up the background noise with the noise filter
I am sure there has to be a better workflow option than what I just did (going clip by clip), Can someone give me some advice on how best to handle audio in a situation like this?
Should I have just rendered out new audio for the whole tape I was using, and then edit from that?
Should I have rendered out the audio after I edited the clips into one long track and performed the actions I needed on it? or something entirely different? It was a very slow, tedious process.
    Thanks,
    Aza

    Hi, Aza.
Given that my background is audio and I'm just coming into the brave new world of visual bits and bytes, I would second Hunt's recommendation regarding exporting the entire video's audio as one wav file, working on it, and then reimporting. I do this as one of the last stages, when I know I have the editing done, with an ear towards consistency from beginning to end.
One of the benefits of this approach is that you can manage all audio in the same context. For example, if you want to normalize, compress or limit your audio, doing it a clip at a time will make it difficult for you to match levels consistently or find a compression setting that works smoothly across the board. It's likely that there will instead be subtle or obvious differences between each clip you worked on.
When all your audio is in one file you can, for instance, look at the entire wave form, see that limiting to -6 db would trim off most of the unnecessary peaks, triim it down, and then normalize it all. You may still have to do some tweaking here and there, but it gets you much farther down the road, much more easily.Same goes for reverb, EQ or other effects where you want the same feel throughout the entire video.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

  • Best way to handle text files in OD10g

We have a requirement to store reports in text format into a database field, to be able to view the reports, and to print them if desired using Forms 10g. What is the best way to handle this?
    - define the field in the database as clob or blob?
    - if CLOB is the choice, what tools to use to upload CLOBs to the database (since webutil transfer is for blob only)?
    - in Forms 10g, can one use the Forms data type LONG for CLOB?
    - can you do Forms search on clob and blob fields?
    - how can reports that are stored in fields be viewed without first downloading to the client workstation?
    - in Forms 10g, what is the best way to view text files residing in local PCs: "host notepad myFile"?
    Thanks much for your reply!
    gk

Take a deep breath. Relax. All is fine.
iDVD does not look at the size of your video file, it looks at the length. iDVD can accomodate up to 2 hours of movie
iDVD gives you different options depending on the length of your movie. Although I won't agree with your friend about reducing the length of your movie to 15 minutes, if you could trim out a few minutes to get it under an hour that setting in iDVD (Best Performance though the new version may have renamed it) gives you the best quality. Still, any iDVD setting will give you good quality even at 64 minutes
In FCE export as Quicktime Movie NOT any flavour of Quicktime Conversion. Select chapter markers if you have them. If everything is on one system unchecked the Make Movie Self Contained button. Drop the QT file into iDVD

  • What is the best way to sync multiple collections of contacts among multiple users?

(I originally submitted this question under the "Mac OS X Technologies" section, but got no response. I'm submitting a duplicate here because this is where all the smart folks are! My apologies that my question is only partially related to OS X Server . . . )
What is the best way to sync multiple collections of contacts among multiple users on iOS and OS X?
For example, suppose I have three collections of contacts: Bob's, Sally's, and Common. I want Bob to be able to access and sync Bob's contacts and Common contacts, and Sally to access and sync Sally's contacts and Common contacts. Bob and Sally never need to access or sync each other's contacts. Bob and Sally would both sync and share contacts in Common.
How would I best implement this? It's my understanding I have three options for managing contacts across iOS and OS X: 1. iCloud accounts, 2. Install OS X server, or 3. Install and manage Darwin CardDAV directly. Which method would best support what I wish to do?
I am a seasoned Unix geek well versed in the terminal, so I am prepared to get my hands dirty as much as necessary to achieve what I want. Also, it is sufficient if syncing takes place over WiFi on the local network, in fact, that is desirable versus syncing over the cloud.

Thanks for your reply Nick101. I see my example was oversimplified. When I say "multiple groups of contacts over multiple users" I'm really referring to N groups of contacts over N users.
So I need to add Fred, who can access and sync Bob's contacts, Sally's contacts, and Common contacts, as well as Fred's contacts. Can I do it with OS X server?
You mention you keep your and your partner's contacts administered locally. What keeps you from administering them through OS X server as well?
I am guessing this can all somehow be accomplished with multiple contact accounts, but I can't find any information on the web explicitly describing this.

  • What is the best way to manage multiple ipods using the same itunes?

    Hi Everyone
i am trying to manage three different ipods through the one Itunes, all with very different tastes, not sure if I am doing it the best or easiest way so does anybody have a simple solution on what you're supposed to do, to keep it all simple!
    Cheers
    Liv

If you have created a new Windows user account you need to log out and then log back in with your original user name. By default each Windows profile will have an independent iTunes library.
If instead you managed to create a new library within the same profile. click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key, keep holding until asked to create or choose a library. Click Choose and navigte back to your original which should be at <User's Music>\iTunes.
    Your question as posed was:
What is the best way to manage multiple iPods using the same iTunes {library}?
in which case Selected Playlists is probably the best approach. Simply create a playlist for each device, Alice's iPod, Bob's iPhone etc. and sync the device with the appropriate list.

  • Best Way to Aggregate Multiple Announcement Apps and Possibly External RSS Feed

    Hello,
I have two separate announcement apps (one in sub-site A, and one is sub-site B). I am trying to create a webpart that will display content from both apps together.
I have tried to setup a CSWP and have been able to set the query to pull in the data (Although it shows expired announcements, which I would need to eliminate). Now, I am trying to customize the display of the CSWP, including the property mapping values

How can I get the body from the announcement to display? The 'body' field isn't listed as an option in the drop down list of mapping values. Do I need to toggle an option on the separate announcement apps, create a column, map a field, or some combination?
Also, I'd like to know if it is possible to add in an external RSS feed. Or, if there is a completely different way to approach and accomplish this, please let me know.
