Best way to remote objects...

What is my best option for hosting objects and accessing/instantiating them using Java SE and potentially other Java-based platforms (CDC, CLDC)?
What I've been trying to do so far is set up some system where a Java SE program can connect to an application server and obtain references/instantiate objects on the server and call methods of those objects.
The biggest struggle for me is understanding if JNDI is what I need to use for all this, on top of other questions.
Am I going about this the wrong way? Is there something else I should be doing?
I welcome any further questions or suggestions.

Is there any way I can get a more specific response? Is there any way I can run a server that hosts instances of objects? What is the simplest way I can instantiate and communicate with remote objects?
Having a different stub for every class I create just seems like wasted effort and there are much more clumsy platforms out there that support very simple remote object & class features...

The best way? Get her to bring it to you, especially if she makes good cakes.
Apples Back to my Mac isn't really suitable for this - it is designed for a single person who wants their Apple ID on the system. It would mean she would have to share hers with you & you would also have to setup her Apple ID on your Mac - it is messy & causes trouble with iCloud, iTunes etc.
You can try Messages if she is able to begin a session with you, see the 'invite to share screen' in the menus, weirdly you need to use a service that isn't from Apple.

It may be better if you to setup LogMeIn or GoToMyPC. They should 'dial out' & maintain a constant connection so you can login whenever the Mac is powered up. It won't, require a human to initiate the process at the other end, just be aware that the router may cause issues depending on what is configured, you may need settings to enable automatic port forwarding - it really depend on which option you choose.

My mother & I recently decided to take the plunge from the PC world to Apple world. I have an MBP w/ OS X 10.8.2, and she has the same w/o the recent OS upgrade (10.7.?). While we're both still at the bottom of the learning curve, I'm a little further ahead and am constantly running over to her place to trouble shoot/assist her with the transition. I've been researching ways to remotely login to her computer and am now more confused than when I started. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I basically want to be able to login to her system and takeover as if I were on site. And, while I don't know if my research, thus far, has brought me any closer to a solution, it has raised a few questions:
1) Do I simply want to go with 3rd party sofware like Logmein and will the free versions be sufficient or are they just trial offers?
2) Or is ARD my best option and am I right in assuming we'd each have to pony up the $80 for installs on both MBPs?
3) Some of the discussions talk about much more expensive ARD fees with multiple licenses. Am I correct in assuming these are meant for network administrators and wouldn't be necessary for my purposes?
4) I noticed a free VCN version available from the App Store but came accross posts which seem to indicate possible security issues. Are these valid concerns and does ARD address them?
5) Will I run into problems because we're using different OSs?
6) I attempted to follow instructions for an "ssh" remote login that I found by doing a search of 'remote login' under the Apple Support. But when a password was requested, I didn't seem to be able to enter one into the command line. Again, I'm new to Macs, but the cursor didn't move when I entered characters, so I was left wondering whether characters were being entered or whether this is Appple's '*****' feature used to guard passwords. Either way, after 3 attempts, my efforts were repeatedly terminated. Unfortunately, I'm not even sure I was entering a valid password as the article I'm referring to didn't specify how to set a password. I used a VCN password I had set up under the Remote Management option in the Sharing utility under System Preferences. I'm assuming this was the password they were looking for but couldn't be 100% sure as the instructions I followed were not related to "ssh" logins nor were they from Apple Suppot. Anyway, is this "ssh" login worth pursuing and does it function independently or does it only work in conjuction with ARD? If it is a stand alone solution, where can I go for better guidance? 7) Being recovering Windows users, we both have MS Office for Mac 2011 which has MS's Remote Desktop Connection app. But from reviewing a few posts, it looks like that comes with it's own set of issues. It also kind of defeats the purpose as I'm trying to wien myself off of MS. But if someone out there has experience and suggests this as the "ultimate" solution, I'm willing to listen.
I know I've babbled on quite a bit and I don't actually expect anyone to take the time to answer all of my questions. But I'm hoping I might get a collective answer, and more importatnly, I'm really hoping to narrow the field and get generally guidance on the best Mac-to-Mac remote login solution. Best way to creat Objects

I am in a process of converting CRs to Universe. Based on the business area , I gathered a set of reports that to be converted to Universe. Joining of tables is almost done. Now I am in process of creating objects.
As we are going in the Bottom- Up approach as the reports are already existed in CR. After analyzing couple of reports, I found lot of formula fields for one report which are in a set of ranges like 0-10, 10-20, 20-30 etc.., with Grand totals, %.
Should I create each and every object like 0-10, 10-20 ( for one report, I have 50+ formula fields).
Please suggest me the best way to go or any suggestion the Webi reporting part.

I would recommend creating object with formulas at universe level using universe functions and using Database functions. This will be very useful to create reports on demand. also give flexibility to user to create ad-hoc report.
Also for specific formulas (which are very report specific) you can create them in universe and hide it from users if you don't want user to use them in ad-hoc reporting.
for formulas like (Bucket)
0-10, 10-20, 20-30
you can use CASE WHEN functionality of database (I am assuming oracle here)
like
CASE
WHEN [Obj] > 0 and [obj] < 10 then '0-10'
END

Best way to store objects' properties and later remake those objects?

I want to create a bunch of objects, set their properties and then save that so on restart, the objects can be reconstituted. Is serialization the best way/ Some other way? I want to store them in XML so I can also create a GUI to show the objects stored.

Best way to sillo objects?

I have to sillo jewelry, so it's very hard to use the Magic Wand since there are varying colors and brightness amongst all the silver/reflective surfaces. I have always used the Pen tool to make Paths but hate that hard edge it has. What is the ultimate, best way to do this? Backgrounds need to be white. If you're thinking to answer with photograph them on a white background, this has already been done. Photographed white is not "web" white and these objects must be silloed. Thanks for any help!

Make the path.
Go to the path palette. ( I assume you know where to find this )
select the path that you wish to apply into a selection.
In the path palette there is a sub menu with options. It's located to the upper right of the path palette. Looks like 3 horzontal lines with a very small up side down triangle next to it. Click on that. The sub menu comes up.
Find the command " make selection "
set the feather radius to something like 0.5. I assume you are editing an image at 300 dpi. if 72 dpi, lower the number by half to start out.
You may or may not want to select the Anti-aliased option depending upon the feather radius and or resolution of the file.
click ok
In the Layers palette, double click the background layer then click OK.
At the bottom of the Layers palette there is a little icon that is a box with a circle in it. Click on that. This will create the mask.
Zoom into the image and evaluate the edge softness.
If its not good enough, rince and repeat until you get the edge you want.

Best way to remote lock/wipe lost Macbook Pro on Snow Leopard?

I'm using Snow Leopard (tried Lion for a few weeks, hated it so went back to SL), and would like the ability the remote wipe/lock my MBP should it ever become lost.
Obviously there's the Find my Mac feature in iCloud on Lion, but I was wondering what the best way to do a similar function on Snow Leopard would be. Is iCloud ever likely to come compatible with SL? Otherwise can anyone recommend any good 3rd party apps that would do the trick?

Best way for Java objects to relate to DB tables

When creating a Java app which relies on a backend DB, it is convenient (and necessary) to create Java classes which relate to the data in those tables. However with a normalised set of tables, should the Java classes relate purely to the tables, or the "view" of the un-normalised data?
e.g. (rough example of what I mean)

user_id INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
user_name CHAR(50),
team_id INTEGER REFERENCES teams(team_id)
Now, the Java class for a user could have either have a variable (e.g. teamName) declared as an int (to fully reflect the table design) or a String (to represent the "view" of the data). I know that views can be used etc. and in this example that would be very easy � I am just using these simplified tables as an example.
I have tried both and both have pitfalls. For instance, when getting the data from the database, it is very easy to create the object from the DB if it reflects the �view� of the data. However when it comes to updating the data in the DB, you need to do a lot of other work to find out what needs updating in which tables, because the actual raw data (as will be inserted/updated with SQL commands) is not available in the Java object.

My question is what is the best way to write the classes that represent the DB data. As I said this is not EJB (that would handle the DB side of things anyway), as this is overkill for this particular situation. It was more of a general question anyway - should the class contain the actual data (e.g. should the user Class contain a String for the team name (e.g. Purchasing) or a link to the underlying DB id for Purchasing.
In reality, I would create a Team class, but the same applies - should the Java Class ever contain any relationship to the underlying DB. I think not, but it seems inefficient to have to continually query the DB to find out information we already have.
Apologies if I am not explaining this very well.

I reecently migrated from a PC to a new iMac. I used to use Remote Desktop on my laptop to connect to my PC desktop remotely when I wasn't at my home. Now that I've migrated to the iMac at home I need to know what the best way is to connect to it when I'm not at home. I know there are a handful of VNC solutions, but one thing I really liked about Remote Desktop for PC is that it was much faster and didn't lag like most VNC solutions.
I'm hoping some of you can point me in the right direction of what's best to access my iMac remotely. If it *is* VNC, I'd also like to know what VNC solutions you'd suggest as there are quite a few available.

What is the best way to remotely stream iTunes content?

I have a rather large iTunes library (approximately 1TB) made up of Videos (iTunes and non-iTunes) and audio (iTunes and Audible) currently sitting on a 3TB external drive. I was wondering what is the best ie. most effieicent/affordable method to access my iTunes library, on my laptop, when I'm not at home?
I've tried iTunes Match in the past yet, unfortunately, iTunes Match has always succeeded in destroying parts of my iTunes library forcing me to restore from backup (which takes several hours). The only other options that I've been able to find are either 1) Buying a 1TB+ portable external drive and puting my iTunes library on it (costs around $150 for 2TB) or 2) Buying a Slingbox 350 ($180, not sure if a service subscription is required) and watch my iTunes Library through my 3rd Gen Apple TV.
Given that iTunes Match was so problematic for me in the past, are these my only other options? Does anyone know of a better solution as to how I can do this?
Any assistance with this will be greatly appreciated.

I have a large iTunes library, 600Gb of Music and 20TB odd of video.
I tried a few different things while I was on the road.
The VPN back was Ok, but I was looking for ways to run video to hotel rooms and 3G / Hotel WIFI wasn't doing it for me.
For Video I ended up using AirVideo from my iMac to my iPad, and that was Ok, Pex can do the same now, so will try that as well.
For music I ended up creating a new login on my iMac and loaded the music that meant the most or was new into iTunes up to 25k songs and shared it using Music Match, that work well for me.
My guess is that Plex will let you share and remote access all your audio video, I haven't tried it yet though.

What is the best way to remotely access a MacBook ?

I would like to access the MacBook of my daughter from my own MacBookPro,
much like Screen Sharing offers, so that I can occasionally help her accomplish stuff by just showing on her MacBook.
The challenge here is that she lives in a different city.
I have tried Screen Sharing, of course, but that seems to work only when both client and server are in the same network.
I was reading about Chrome Remote Desktop, but that seems to work only on iOS on the client side, not on a MacBook.
I tried some VNC apps, but again somehow failed.
I will appreciate all kinds of hints and suggestions.

Best way to write objects in an xml and send the file?

i am making some objects, which i conver to xml using the XStream and then i am saving them to a file, call a function to send the file to a servant (basically i do this by sending bytes and this may be the problem). In the servant i take the data i write them to a file and then i read them again to make them objects...
i have the following code in the client

the problem is that in the first group of System.out.println i get the error File input errorcom.thoughtworks.xstream.mapper.CannotResolveClassException: Jobb : Jobb
but the second group of printlns, prints the correct results...
do you know what is the problem? Why can i read the content of the file and get the objects from there?
do you have any suggestions of writing and reading the file in an another way or to send it by NOT using a bytes array?
do you have an alternative way of making the xml file?

Hi,
I would suggest to reconsider building of your document so that it doesn't contain duplicates if you don't need them. And it doesn't have much to do with DB XML then.
Also you could insert your document with duplicates and use XQuery Update facilities to delete undesirable nodes.
