Best workflow from print to web?

Hi all,
Let me apologise in advance if this is the wrong forum for this question, but it is Indesign related (kind of).
I sometimes need to make animated web banners that are based on existing print advertising, so the ads were originally put together using Indesign CS5.5 on a Mac.
The quickest way to make the banners is to use the basic animation tools available in Indesign and to export to a swf, but I'm sure there's a better way to do it for a couple of reasons:
1. I should think that the swf produced is probably larger and clumsier than something produced from scratch in Flash; and
2. Isn't the preloaded list of behaviours a bit limited? - producing something that looks a bit 'template' if you know what I mean.
Besides those reasons, if I understand it correctly, flash isn't supported on mobile devices anyway, so I'm going to need to look at a better approach.
So my question is - what should I be learning in order to be able to animate these fairly simple banners, as quickly as possible, using files that started out as print advertising, so that they can be viewed on the largest number of devices?
I have got the trial version of Edge and it seems fairly simple to use, but I can't copy and paste elements from Indesign - I suppose I'd have to export objects and/or groups of objects in my print ads to jpg, and then import them into Edge. That seems a shame.
Sorry it's such a rambling post - there's such a lot of conflicting information around that it's hard to know what you need to know if you see what I mean.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Use Edge or find another HTML5/CSS3 tool. Edge is still in beta but it's very solid.
Once it's in release it will be available by subscription or as part of  Creative Cloud.

  • Transfering from print to web problem

My graphics person created a lot of great stuff for my business. She's not a website person, but gave me soem photo's so that I could code (I can hand code) them for the site.
But we're having a problem and I'm hoping someone can explain to me/her why it's happening. We're at a loss.
I have a temlate for my sites, however, I wanted it to be wider than it is. But we're having two problems that I don't understand ☺
What I'd like to do is tell her how to fix it :)
Basically she creates a graphic and then we need to cut it so that it download quicker on the web.
The file is created in adobe illustrator, then the file is rasterized to work with in adobe photoshop. The slices are then made in photoshop and saved for the web.
So that should be AOK... BUT>>>
    Two problems occur:
One problem is the colors shift slightly when the file is converted to photoshop so the background of the file doesn't match up with the background of the website.
The other problem is that in the process of transferring the image from one type to another ends up somehow a lot of code is embedding into the image when it is saved for the web. What that does is make the photo size humungous.
For a sample see the header in http://www.businessandmarketingplan.elevatingyourbusiness.com
Just a little of the code that gets imbedded into the graphic is:
    GIF89aî z Ä ÿÿÿòòøæçêÒÓßäÑ|¿¿¿¶¶ÜÓ´.¦§§Ì|y'}#pv¶fff^^®FH¢JMP!J'I:533 7o'(

Maria, the color mismatch is discussed here so frequently it is hard to get anyone to address it completely anymore.
Just looking at the header image, I see the designer did not embed a profile, which is one thing she has done right. Now what she needs to do is be sure the image is never being converted to a profile at any point as she works on it in Illustrator or Photoshop.
Illustrator CS3 will convert to sRGB on export from Save for Web under some circumstances: specifically, if she saves the image as a jpeg (and leaves the option enabled)... but since she is doing further work in Photoshop I hope she isn't saving to jpeg on the first save.
Illustrator CS2 and earlier will lighten PNG images when you Save For Web to PNG... I wonder if that is what she might be doing.
Photoshop can easily convert an image to a different color space on opening, depending upon your color management policies. So we'll have to know more about what she is doing before we can tell you what is happening, unless she can figure it out from the general comments I have made.
I'm not sure what you are talking about when you say there is extra code being embedded. It just looks like a standard GIF header so far.

  • 50i footage best workflow for progressive output (web/youtube) / deinterlace

    Hello
The reason I have to work with interlaced footage is that the clips are edited for a TV show as well.
I (usualy) get 1080i @ 50fps clips with fast-paced movement of camera & inside the shot (subject) - car racing.
Editing in Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5
I am struggling with some stutter & sharpness loss & thin interlaced lines (even after exporting as progressive).
    The current workflow is:
              - importing inside an AVCHD - 1920x1080 @ 50i sequence
              - edit
              - export as h264 - 1920x1080 @ 25P /Constrant Bit Rate @ 10MB
Results not that great : while the smoothness of motion is preserved there is a visible drop in details quality and still visible thin horizontal lines from the interlaced footage.
    Also tried:
              - importing inside an AVCHD - 1920x1080 @ 25P sequence
              - edit
              - select 'Always deinterlace' option inside Field Options box (takes extra some time because i have to do this for each individual clip)
              - export as h264 - 1920x1080 @ 25P /Constrant Bit Rate @ 10MB
Results not that great : stutter motion, more visible drop in details quality and no horizontal lines visible.
    My questions are:
1)What is the best sequence settings for editing 50i settings and exporting for WEB/progressive?
2)What is the best deinterlace option? ('interpret footage>no field' does not help)
3)What is the best output/export settings?
    Thank you!

You are not using the Youtube preset
Your preset shows that whilst it is h264 some settings have been changed over the default hence CUSTOM showing in the image, it is that you are just outputting a file specifically for your PC/MAC
    Other observations
Why are you saving to your C drive?  Better to have multiple drives for editing, there are plenty of posts on drive management and setup
Do you have the default Premiere settings for scratch discs etc?  These will use your C drive which will soon become filled, or at least overwhelmed with raed and wrtite problems
Why are you saving the file at 10mbps?  Especially for motion my PAL HD MP4 progressive settings are 32 ave 40 max mbps

  • Hi guys, Im a Print graphic designer ( I use Photoshop, Indesign & Illustrator ) I would like to learn more skills and switch from '' print to web design ''.

While doing some research, i came across some nice Adobe softwares like Adobe Muse and Adobe Edge Animate.
Which one would you recommend me to learn and master?  I have also been looking at Adobe After Effects and it seems to be very nice too. I know it's mainly for those in the cinematographic industry but I think it might be useful for me to have some kinda knowledge about it, especially for making some Intros and animations for logos. What do you think about it?
Which one would you recommend me to learn and master? also do you think After Effects would be nice for me?
I have been watching some tutorials on Youtube and Lynda.com about Adobe Muse and Adobe Edge. They are pretty straight forward and I find myself comfortable with it.
But I would like to know the difference between Muse and Animate Edge please. They both seem to be some kinda softwares for those who want to design without coding, right? But apart from that, how do they differentiate from each other.
Hope to get some nice tips, advices from you guys.
    Cheers,
    Yannick

After Effects is excellent for doing motion graphics. However, it's a pretty powerful program - thus hard to jump into and learn. Start here if you want to learn it: Getting started with After Effects
I would suggest you focus more on the software that does what you want to do (web) and leave After Effects for doing video work.

  • Best workflow from HDV sequence to DVD

    I have a HDV sequence 55 minutes,
    - export self-contained QT movie, about 10Gig. that takes about 2-3 hours,
    - sent to compressor 3, 90 mins best quality,
and it want to take 40 hours!!! to do it......
also tried Visual Hub, took 120 minutes, wrote DVD with toast, image was quite good, but sound was broken, and only half of the movie was written, toast reported an error.
have also done a few short tests using compressor and the image quality was simply awful.
love to know what is the best way, and fairly quick, and good quality to get from the sequence to a DVD.
    FCP 6

I'm still a bit blown away by the complexities of HDV editing. SD seemed so simple in comparison!
Everything I read related to taking a project from an HDV timeline to an SD DVD project is such a lengthy process. Which brings me to ask this question... I have captured 1080i footage shot with my Canon XH-A1 and with my Canon HV20 and edited the footage in HDV sequences in FCP. At the time I was unaware of there being processes (such as those mentioned in the posts above) for converting HDV projects to SD DVD projects. So, I simply continued the process of burning a DVD with the HDV sequence just as I always have with SD projects. I exported a QuickTime file of my edited sequence and then imported that QT file into iDVD to burn a DVD. I was very much aware that this DVD would not contain high def footage because I was not using a high def burner or high def discs, so I just assumed that the end result would be having my HDV project deliverable on DVD in standard def. And I wasn't disappointed. My iDVD project burnt successfully and soon thereafter I was able to watch the DVD from a standard DVD player. Granted this was not a long project - it was about 10 minutes worth of video - but is there anything wrong with using this process to go from an HDV sequence to a playable SD DVD? And would the process that I just described work for projects as long as 30 minutes or more?

  • Best workflow from FCE 4.0 timeline to Blu Ray disk?

I'm almost done creating a video in FCE4.0.1 and I'm wondering what everyone's experience is in producing a quality blu Ray disk on the Mac.
I'm using an iMac I7 and FCE 4. I will be buying an external blu Ray writer (suggestions?) and I'm assuming I'll need Toast and the blu Ray plug in to create the disk.
Perhaps not. I know others have already fought this bleeding edge battle so I'm hoping I can learn from your experiences.
I'm looking to output 720P quality. So, suggestions? Ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    DC

I have had satisfactory results burning short Blu-ray quality movies using Toast and standard DVDs. I export my work from FCE to QuickTime then import it into Toast. I select the Blu-ray video option (top left) and also select the standard DVD (bottom right). The results are quite good viewed on a HD TV using a Blu-ray disc player. It takes a long time to burn and patience is required, but I have compared the Blu-ray video to DVDs burned in the normal manner, and the results are pretty amazing. This process does not require an external Blu-ray writer, but it will only work for short videos of 20 minutes or so.

  • Best workflow from InDesign to Edge Animate for DPS

I'm working on a DPS project and want to take an article that I designed in InDesign, and bring it into Edge Animate to animate.
What's the best way to do that?

There is no good way to do that but without seeing the layout it's pretty much impossible to give you any advice at all. BTW, The Edge and DPS forums would be way better places to post this.

  • How to kick off workflow from Web Dynpro?

    Hi,
I have abap experience but haven't used workflow before. I have to kick off a workflow from a java web dynpro.
I think that I need to set up a business object and an event within this object, as step one. I then go to Status Management in the Business Workflow as I need to establish a relationship between the web dynpro and my event, step two.
The question is, what Status Object type do I use in this Status Management? For example if I was releasing a production order I could set this to ORH.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Warren.

    Hello Warrenabap,
Do you know how to send (or modify) the container values from a workflow ??

  • Workflow; from (illustrator) design to Flash Builder (with no room for interpretation)

    Dear all,
A couple of years ago, we've made quite a bold move to start developing a large ERP application using Flex. The workflow was straight forward; functional and graphic designs were developed almost simultaneously (using Illustrator for the graphic part) and subsequently Catalyst would be used to convert the illustrator designs to usable code in Flash Builder.
Since Catalyst has been discontinued, we've been dealing with a real gap which is recently been widened due to the fact we've started using later versions (Adobe CC). Thus, we are in need of some advice. We need solutions to move from an illustrator design to flash builder without our developers having to execute design tasks or interpret designs while coding. Basically my questions are as follows:
    - How do I get .ai files over to Fb leaving no room for interpretation (dimensions, colors, gradients, blends, padding, etc)?
    - What is the best flow in case we want to also add some interactivity / animation to our designs without having to dive into the code, in order to convey our ideas to our developers?
I have browsed forums and watched several training videos, but all I can find are workflows from design to web. Surely, you guys can help me out!
    Thanks,
    David

  • Calling OWF from customer build web application

All, All the example that I've read from OWF documentation is assuming that you builder the workflow from OWF Builder and manage it thru OWF manager, monitor is thru OWF Monitor. I'm wondering if it is possible to monitor the workflow and manage the workflow from customer build web application. Since we don't want our users have to login several times and use different URLs to get into the customer build application, then manage the workflow and monitor it via different urls. Anybody has experience doing all from one application can provide any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    dsl

    Hi,
Well, I did my JSP pages doing selects to OWF tables and OWF java APIs. I used owf pl/sql procedures as my reference. For example, I need to know how to create actions buttons. I looked at wfa_html procedure and looked for how it was doing that.
    Any doubts just ask,

  • Best workflow PAL (Avid DV) to NTSC

    Hi friends,
I received a 2-hour concert video (I was informed that this is going to be 16:9) from Prague with the following Item Properties (from FCP):
    Creator: QuickTime Player
    Vid Rate: 25 fps
    Frame Size: 720 x 576
    Compressor Avid DV
    Data Rate: 19.3 MB/sec
Pixel Aspect: PAL - CCIR 601
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd)
Originally, this file shows from "Get Info":
    Dimensions: 1024 x 576
Codecs: AVUI, AVdv, AV1x, Linear PCM, Timecode
I had to download the Avid QuickTime Codecs LE 2.1 from Avid's site to have FCP recognize and accept this PAL file.
    Question...
What's the proper setting for FCP (7.0.2) prior to importing this file (Easy Setup, etc.)?
When selecting NTSC using DV-NTSC under Easy Setup then importing this PAL file, my canvas is showing squeezed image (the people appear much taller) knowing that the intended 16:9 is not properly displayed...
What is the best workflow from FCP to Compressor?
What is your recommended settings once in Compressor (with a 16:9 final output)?
I tried using the DV NTSC from Advanced Format Conversions but the preview still shows the squeezed video.
Any other tips for this noob greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

    You're good to go
I think you should leave the field filter alone, for now.
    Now edit away.
when you're done export a MOV file, using "current settings." that leaved the codec as it is in the timeline. This file can be either self contained or non-self contained. The former is an archive and the latter a reference that can be deleted later.
Then bring the rendered MOV into Compressor. Apply the DVD presets for M2v audio and ac3 audio. Those two files will then go into DVD Studio Pro for authoring.
The settings for DVD video and audio can be adjusted for compression and other settings. You'll want to make sure that it's set for PAL and 16:9

  • Triggering workflow from Web Dynpro

    Hi,
What is the best way to trigger a workflow from a web dynpro application?
Is there a standard 'Netweaver' workflow component or only the classic workflow is available?
I want to trigger some workflow activity after the user has made a new entry using the dynpro application.
Also is there a way to view the users 'Inbox' in a web browser or the only way is to use iView in a Portal?
    Thanks for any feedback.
    Regards, Hari

Thanks for the information Tomas & Anil.
What part of the component is GP? Is it part of CAF?
Anil you have mentioned I need to install it on the J2EE.
We have currently Java stack for Web AS 6.4, what other components do I need to make this happen.
    Thanks, Hari

  • Can't re-add printer after removing from eprint center - 'Web Services Problem'

I have an HP Photosmart Premium C310 series printer (Model Number CN503B) which I have been using with ePrint for about 18 months. Aside from intermittent issues it has worked, I use a chromebook most of the time so rely on the ePrint option via Google Cloud Print.
Last week it stopped working, with every job in the list showing as cancelled. Following advice on the forum I removed the email address of the printer from the eprint center. I thought it would then be simple to add the printer back. However, I have been unable to connect the printer to the web service so I cannot create the code I need to add the printer back.
    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    1. Factory reset printer settings
    2. Factory reset network settings
    3. Restart printer and Reboot router
    3. Settings -> Network -> Wireless Setup Wizard
    4. Choose correct SSID, enter password for WPA
    5. ‘Connected to Network’
    6. Settings -> Web -> Enable Web Services
    7. ‘Accept terms’ screen -> Accept
    8. ‘Checking for product updates’ screen shows briefly then returns to 'accept terms' screen
    9. Next it makes a ping sound and shows ‘Web Services Problem’ ‘Problem connecting to Web Services Server’, it then pings again a few seconds later (which ties in with what I see in the network logs as a second attempt)
    10. Log on to printer via web interface and set IP address of printer to manual IP outside DHCP range (as advice on other threads in this forum). Check DNS setting valid (same as gateway server which all other devices on network are also using successfully as DNS)
    11. Repeat steps 6 and 7 - still same error message
I consider myself technically savvy and have followed all advice I can find on this forum including the following:
    1. reverting to printer and network defaults
    2. rebooting router
    3. assigning static IP address to printer outside of DHCP range of router
    4. connecting to printer via web interface and setting DNS to variously: same as gateway, google DNS (8.8.8.8), ISP DNS
    5. adjusting firewall settings on router to explicitly allow and log outbound connection on the HP ports (already had a rule allowing all outbound connections)
As mentioned, the printer worked fine with ePrint previously so I suspect the ePrint server is rejecting a request from my printer for some reason, maybe because there is old / corrupt  data on the server regarding my specific printer.
I’m logging outbound traffic from the printer and here are what the router logs show me (printer IP replaced with 192.168.x.x below, even though it is not public )
    Thu, 2013-04-11 09:13:42 - TCP Packet - Source:192.168.x.x, 36475 Destination:15.201.202.81,80 - [HTTP rule match]

Looks like both are HP sites: first is 'g4t2674.houston.hp.com' and the second secure one is ‘registration-pro-site2eprint.houston.hp.com’ which sound likely to be correct. That suggests the DNS is working but that the registration server doesn’t like the request for some reason.
I had the printer registered for Google Cloud Print but I have now deleted that also and it doesn’t seem to have made any difference (assume it just formats and forwards to the HP ePrint email anyway).
One hack that sheds some further light is to switch off wifi on the printer and then switch on ePrint. Eprint gives an error but stays set as 'on'. When I then switch wifi back on I can then at least check for product updates (it tells me I have the latest product updates). However, web services are still a 'no go'. Network traffic for that product update exchange looks like this:

So clearly the printer can communicate to those servers well enough to find it has the latest firmware.
I realise this is a lot of information but hopefully some of it is helpful for troubleshooting.
Thank you in advance for any help!

The issue disappeared this weekend. I didn't change anything so it must have been something server side. I notice others with the same issue have also seen it resolved.
Thanks to all those who contributed and tried to help out. Although disappointed I went for a long time without ePrint I'm glad that action was apparently taken to resolve in the end.
