BEX Query- Auth Variable

Hello Experts,
I am lost with the functionality of the Auth Variable in the BEX Query.
I have an AS IS 3.5 system in which I have a Query where there is an auth variable on Cost center ZXXXXXX.It is working fine.
In order to implement the same logicon a new to be system I need to create the entire scenarion on my system
(Like assigning roles and make this Query Function exactly  as in the AS IS system)
Reamaining things of the Query I have developed with out any issue. But, How to exactly implement this auth variable concept on
my new system.
Couls you please help me how exactly this functionality works
Now the Basis team wants to know how exactly if this ZXXXXXX variable is linked to the LIST OF ROLES in the
AS-IS system so that they can exactly put the same in the TO BE SYSTEM USER Roles.
To  understand where is used the Authorization variable ZXXXXXX working for the different users?
where are the combination between the user and the list of cost center associated ?
Regards,

Hi,
Although the authorization concept has changed from 3.x to 7.0 the authorization variables that you create should work.
Depending upon weather the the authorization variable is a charachteristic value or Hierarchy node differnet code is executed, the following functions will return the values.
RSEC_GET_AUTH_HIER_FOR_USER
RSEC_GET_AUTH_FOR_USER

  • Crystal Reports - Problem with too long BEx Query technical variable names?

    Hello!
I have Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 and the SAP BO Integration Kit XI 3.1 SP3 installed and want to access a BEx query on a BW system within my Crystal Report.
The problem is that the name of the BEx variable is not displayed correctly (just "[]" is displayed for the variable name) as a parameter within Crystal Reports when I import the query. Furthermore I can't navigate through the fields of the query within Crystal Reports.
The technical names of the BEx query-variables have a length of 12 characters.
The interessting thing is that if I change the technical names of the BEx query variables to a maximum length of 8 characters everything works fine.
I use the SAP toolbar within Crystal Reports 2008 to create the report and have the "MDX-driver"-setting selected.
Has anyone ever had the same problem? Any suggestions?
I don't want to change the technical names of the variables of my queries...
    thanks,
    Dominik

    Hi!
Just fixed the problem: The "Transports" for the Integration Kit had to be imported at the BW-System

  • BI 7 - BEX Query Designer variable question

    Hi all,
If I have an Entry Variable in the selection screen of a query,  is it possible to populate another variable based on the user input.
    e.g.
If I have a Report Date with a mandatory input, and I want a CalMonth variable to be populated based on this.
Is the only way of achieving this through customer exits???
    Many thanks,
    Shane.

    Hi Shane,
You would need to write a code in the CMOD for the variable, something like below:
Declare internal table IT_RANGE with type same as I_T_VAR_RANGE.
Also declare work area WA_RANGE like line of IT_RANGE
    when 'variable_name'.
         IF i_step = 2.
         REFRESH e_t_range.
         data: v_date type sy-datum.
         data: v_date1 type sy-datum.
         data: v_month type I length 2.
         data: v_year type I length 4.
         read I_T_VAR_RANGE into WA_RANGE where VNAM = 'variable_name' and IOBJNM = '0cal_day'.
         if sy-subrc = 0.
              v_date = WA_RANGE-LOW. "Date Entered by user
         endif.
         WA_RANGE-SIGN = 'I'.
         WA_RANGE-OPT = 'EQ'.
         * here we will write our logic to populate the 7 dates as required.
         * and populate the date into v_date1.
WA_RANGE-LOW = v_date1. "Similar procedure to derive all 7 dates
append wa_range to e_t_range. "We append all the 7 derived dates to e_t_range
            "(i.e. 7 append statements)
You should be careful while writing the logic for previous month to handle year ends.
you can use sample code like below for that:
         v_month = v_date4(2). "month
         v_year = v_date+0(4). "Year
         if v_month = '01'.
              v_month = '12'.
              v_year = v_year - 1.
         endif.
You will probably need an ABAPers help to write the logic for deriving the dates as required.
Here your logic will be like finding end date of previous months which can be done using function module LAST_DAY_OF_MONTHS
similarly you will have to get last dates of 3 quarters, which can be done by determining which quarter the input date falls in.
and same for the year end date.
    Hope this helps

  • Problem executing BEx query Hierarchy variable with default value

My query has hierarchy variable on 0MOVETYPE char with a default value . The 0MOVETYPE variabale restriction is in Static filter area.
I got timeout on query execution not because of amount of data but because of this hier. variable. Any ideas why?
    Notes:
    a) The hierarchy and the 0MOVETYPE characteristic are active and correct.
    b) I've tried RSRT check, but got the same timeout error.
    c) query executes fine on dev environment. I'm getting timeouts on PRD (as I say not because of amont of data)

    Hi,
    1. Try generating the report in RSRT and see if query runs correctly
    2. Looks like you are dafulating onto top node which contains whole data may be. This is not correct as it will definitely slow down the report based on amount of data it contains. Try to remove default and try first whether query is opening.
    3. You can put some lower level defualt to understand whether amount of data is the issue.
    4. Try to increase the server time out setting and see if it runs.
    Thanks and regards

  • Crystal Reports with BEx Query using Custom Exit Variable

    Hi,
We have BW BEx Query using Customer User Exit variable to derive  the Fiscal Week for Last Year (called it VAR2) based on another user input variable Current Fiscal Week (called it VAR1).
VAR2 is derived from VAR1 in CMOD via some codings and thus it DOES NOT have the "Variable is Ready for Input" flag ticked in the BEx. VAR1 is user input variable, so it has "Variable is Ready for Input" flag ticked in the BEx.
When we create a Crystal Reports with the BEx Query using variable VAR2, and when we run it we got an error message saying "Failed to execute query; '[]<java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: No Selection State Support!ZP_MI_LYPUBWEEK>'. Redesign your query or contact the data source maintainer to solve the problem".  (note: ZP_MI_LYPUBWEEK is VAR2 in this case).
Could anyone please assist? Surely, CR supports BEx customer user exit variables like the above, right?. I also refer to the forum below as it seems to have a similar issue (except mine with an error message), but it does not provide a solution in it.

We tried that "mandatory" option and did not work either.
Anyway, SAP has now come back again saying it is something they will fix it in next release/version. We got a phone call from them and a reply below to our OSS.

  • How to print sap bex query varaibles in webi report

    Dear Friends,
I created a webi Report on universe ( Based on SAP BW Bex Query with variables).
its working fine. Now i want to show the selected variable values on the top of my webi report.
How can i access and print my bex query variables on header of my webi report.
We are using BOE 3.1 SP2, SAP BI 7.02.
    Regards
    Malik

    Malik
That is default behavior of BO. The integration mapping from BI to BO will populates like that, COZ you made BI variable on top of Date dimension, which needs From and TO fields.
To display that info, what user has selected on the fly:
    As suggested, use UserResponse() function.
keep in mind, prompt text and userresponse text must be identical. Otherwise, it wont't work.
Eg: prompt Text: Enetr From Date:
Var: =UserResponse(Enter From Date:) -->> Results: (Blank)
Why?? Prompt text Enetr not Enter
    Hope it clears you.

  • Optional BEx query variables not working in WebI

    Hi,
I have an Webi report based on Bex Query using BICS connection.
One characteristic is restricted with two variables. First an authorization variable and additional with an input ready variable.
This input ready variable is optional. When it comes up in webi and you choose a value it doesn't filter on it.
We are on BO 4.1. SP3 and BW 7.31.
With SAP_ALL the optional prompt is working, but for a user with limited access, the optional variable doesn't work.
I have already made a RSRT trace with a test user. But I'm not sure what's the problem.
    Trace returned:
    S_RS_AUTH  RC=4 -->  BIAUTH=0BI_ALL; type=RF;name=BICS_PROV_OPEN;
But I don't want to give the user 0BI_ALL, otherwise my analysis authorizations for this info object would be obsolete.
    Any ideas?
    Thx and Regards,
    Katharina

    Hi Neetika,
    thank you for your advice!
I tried the filter without authorziation variable and it was working.
I in addition I tried another option: I defined auth variable as input ready and deleted filter variable and that would work working.
With this setting I recognized that for the authorization variable all allowed values are set as default values! If you execute query with SAP_ALL no default is set, but with limited access the allowed values are set as default.
This may be the problem here. I don't know if this behaviour is by design or if there is a problem with rights?
But now I know where the problem comes from.

    Katharina

  • Creating Restrictions in BEx query designer for (1-a), where a is variable.

    Dear All,
    >>  Suppose for the variable in the BEx query designer, I've created restriction for 0FISCPER to the variable 0P_PER (as 0P_PER-1) by right clicking 0P_PER3, from that a dialog box appears.  In that I've selected 0P_PER3 and then clicked on offset variable and when I set the offset variable, it works for (0P_PER-1.etc, 0P_PER+1,etc..)
But if I want to have (1-0P_PER), then plz tell me how to define this restriction?
Plz explain me the steps to perform (1-0P_PER) restriction in BEx query designer in BW1.
I'm using SAP BI 7.2 gui.
    Expecting your reply soon,
    with Regards,

My requirement is that I want to have " 1-fiscal year"., But this I could not define using offset variables, since using offset we can define "fiscal year +1" or "fiscal year -1".
So there would be some other way to define "1-fiscalyear".  So Please help me to define "1-fiscalyear"  by giving me the steps.

  • SAP BO WebI Report on top of BI Bex Query with Authorization Variable

    Hi,
We are trying to restrict row level data using BI 7.0 analysis authorization concept. We have an authorization variable in the Bex query and is working perfect in Bex Analyzer as well as in RSRT.
Now we are trying to achieve the same thing in BO webI. We created an Universe using Authentication Mode SSO. We are on BOXI 3.1 and implemented SSO. When we try to run the query in WebI we get the error
"A database error occured. The database error text is: Error in MDDataSetBW.GetCellData..(WS 10901)"
Just for testing purpose, when we use query filter in WebI and use Values from List, it is showing only the authorized value it supposed to show and runs well with that value selected. But we have to achieve this without the query filter in WebI.
So are we missing some thing here or any patch issue? Please share if you have done this type of reports in BO.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Moorthy.

Yes I did run MDXTEST and it gives error as 'you do not have sufficient authorization'. The reason it is giving, I guess and we are debugging that to confirm, is first it looks for 0BI_ALL and throws error which is not the case in Bex. See the following trace in RSRT trace.
    InfoObject Properties Defined
    Reading of Directly Assigned Authorizations
Direct Assignment Does Not Include Universal Authorization 0BI_ALL
Reading the Indirect Assignments with Authorization Object S_RS_AUTH
    Does user have OBI_ALL?
No, the User Does Not Have Universal Authorizion 0BI_ALL
Negative Entry in SU53 Result of Failed Check for 0BI_ALL
Indirect assignments found; no universal authorization

  • Variable Selections in BEx Query Variants

I am trying to save a variant for a BEx query that uses a floating date range.  I want the date range to move with the calendar.  I r/3 this is done with the variable selection.  In BW 3.5, I don't see how this is possible.  I only see options for TVARVC which are user exit selections.  Can someone point me in the right direction.
    Regards,
    Kevin B

    Hi Kevin
Your requirment is that date range should move with calendar (ex. In first week , the date range should be from 1 to 7 of the current month & in  second week the date range should be from 1 to 15 of current month) ...if it is like this then you can go ahead with - create a variable and do the coding with sydatum (system date ) and embed the required logic. But if your requirement is completely random then you can not use this.
    Hope this helps

  • BICS - Passing Mandatory Filter Variable value to a BEx Query

    Hi All,
I have similar problem as the below URL.
BICS - Passing variables to a BEx Query
    Details:
I have a mandatory filter - Display Currency in BEx query. I'm trying to input this mandatory filter from Xcelsius, (by mapping the filter value to a cell in Xcelsius spreadsheet).
However, when I lauch the dashvoard in IE page, it still throws an error:
" One or more mandatory varaibles of the query... are not filled"
    Does anyone face this issue?
    Regards,
    AK

    Hi Sriram,
I assume you are using SAP direct connectivity.
    >> Yes, it is direct connectivity to SAP-BW.
(And I'm publishing this dashboard in SAP-BW system itself.)
    1. What are all the Variables you get in intial variable screen?
because if you have a Mandatory variable in your Bex query, a intial variable screen will appear with all the variables.
    >> I'm testing the underlying BEx query, it has one mandatory variable for "Display Currency". Other are optional variable-filters, so other filters are not a problem.
    2. when you get this error "One or more mandatory varaibles of the query... are not filled", just after the Launch or after the variable screen?
    >> I use the option in Xcelsius: SAP --> Launch -->  a new IE page opens, then I get this error
    3. However you can bye pass this screen only when you give default values to your mandatory variables.
    >> When I use personalization in BEx side, to input default value (e.g: USD), and then run this standard content dashboard, the hangs.(Do not see anything on IE page for long time. Though the data is very less-Few hundres rows)
So, I'm looking at passing the value from Xcelsius-spreadsheet, however, the dashboard is not picking up the value from the mapped-cell.
Hope this gives more clarity on the problem.
    Cheers,
    AK

  • BW Variables not showing up in universe based on BEX query

We've been trying to create BO Universes on BEx Queries.  When we create the connection, it reads the query into the Universe, however, it does not always read all of the BW variables associated with the queries.  We've moved all filters in the BEx Query into Free Characteristics but BO Designer still does not read them into the universe or create them as mandatory filters in the universes as the documentation states.  Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks

    Hi -
I assume that you might have kept the filters(Variables) in Default Values section. Only filters which are placed in Characterstic restrictions will appear in Universe Designer. Thanks!

  • How to create variables in Bex query

    Hi all,
can anyone please explain how to create the variables and how many types of variables in Bex Query.
    Thanks in advance
    James

    Hi James,
You can create variables in the BEx Query by right clicking on your characteristic and then selecting Restrict. A pop up window will appear. On the left side of the pop-up window, right click on a white space and then select New Variable. The Variable Wizard will then appear - you can now create your variable acording to your specifications. For more info on variables, please click on the link below:

  • How to edit the properties for existing variables in BEX query, so that I can get multiple input selections

    Dear fellow developers,
I'm trying to edit an existing variable using BEX query, so that it can allow multiple input selections.
As you can see in the screenshot attached, the option is selectable during creation.
However, during editing of an existing field, this field (Details -> Basic Settings -> Variable Represents) is not selectable.
Does anyone knows why, and how to remedy this?

Yes you can do it at the table level.
Go to SE11 enter table name as RSZGLOBV.
Enter the technical name of variable in VNAM field..You need to change the value in VPARSEL column.
Please make sure to get the where used list of this variable so that you can know the impact,if something goes wrong.
Also change it in DEV and then transport across the landscape.
PS:Same thing has been described in this blog as well
