Bex Variable

<Moderator Message: Please use the search for this type of questions. This has been asked and answered already a lot of times>
In my project a variable is set in a Query using function module.
Can anybody provide me some document on this ?
How to find this function module ?
Thanks,
Ashwin

Hi Bhanu,
Thanks a lot.
I will just brief my problem, I tried the ways mentioned in the document earlier but is is not solving my purpose.
I have a report for Spare parts using hierarchy build on 0material.
See the nodes below:
-1 level node is Plant but I have 3 plants P1, P2 and P3
-2 level node is having Department say 2 dept under P1 and 3 in P2 and 1 in P3
-3 level I have dept and again under all the plant I have some dept.
-4 level is Machine name and I have machines under all the dept.
-5 level is component
Now if the user runs the report I want it pops up a variable screen and ask for the Machine i.e. only level 4
and finaly display the components related to the machine.
While creating variable I am using 001 material hierarchy now how to restrict this variable for a machine i.e. restriction for level of hierarchy not for node. As mentioned above n number of plant and under each plant n number of department and under each dept n number of machines I have, so I need to select a machine level for restricting .
Hope you understand my problem and let me know you view.
Thanks in advance.

  • Crystal Report not Adopting all possible Dropdown Values from BEx Variable

    Hi all,
I am having an issue in a Crystal report where the drop down parameter that is sourced from a BEx query variable does not include all the possible values in the cube (or in master data). After learning my lesson the first time of not changing the name of the variable or changing it to dynamic (this causes it to break), I had the understanding that the value list may not be complete when running the report in the Crystal client or in the viewer, however, I thought it should be correct when published to the BOE and run in infoview. I am getting the same incomplete list in infoview. I published the report into infoview using the Crystal 2008 desktop client, not the /CRYSTAL/RPTADMIN transaction.
I know there are a couple ways of sourcing a Crystal report from a BW query - using MDX vs. not, etc. I created this report using the SAP menu > "Create new report from a query". I don't believe Crystal will easily let you use that menu option to create a report off two BW queries joined together (which is what I am doing), so I built it off one originally (using the SAP menu), then added the other later on. I have the checkbox for "Use MDX driver with support for Multiple structures" checked. In database expert, my "Selected Tables" both are of database type "SAP BW Query".
Do I have the right understanding of how the value list should work when sourced from a BEx variable? If so, can anyone offer any suggestions for getting the value list populated correctly?
    Here's some info:
    Crystal version: CR2008, version 12.2.4.507
    BOE version 3.1
    SAP BW 7.01 EhP 6
    Thanks,
    Chad

    Hi,
    - in the Crystal Reports designer the list of values is not online and there is a maximum number of values - configured by a registry setting:
    (windows 7)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\SAP\BWQueryReportWrapper
    Key: MaxPickListSize
and correct you can not change the name of the variable or set it to dynamic as the definition is based on the BEx query.

The checkbox on the Multi Structure is not for the option to combine 2 Bex queries - it is for Bex queries with 2 structures and the BW query driver has been deprecated already and you have to use the MDX Driver.

in Crystal Reports Designer the list is static and when you publish the report using the BW Publishing to your SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise system the list becomes dynamic in InfoView.

  • BEx  Variable input Issue

    Hi everyone,
I have an issue with Input Parameters in BEx Variable Screen. For Example, I have included Customer Name in the Variable Screen. Then , the user says, he does not remember the complete customer name. There will be thousands of names. Instead he remembers only a few Initial Characters. For example, if the  customer Name is ZSAMSUNG. He only remembers ZS out of the whole name.
In that case, he wants to enter ZS* in the Variable Selection Screen for Customer Name. But this is not working in BEx. It says invalid Parameters. I have created a Characteristic variable with Manual Entry.
Currently, I am working on BI7.0, Support Package 11.
    Please provide your valuable inputs.
    1) Is it possible create a Customer Exit Variable for the same with some logic.
    Regards,
    Samiir

    Hi Samir
Sry, but I think that this functionallity is allredy usable in Bex.
When the variable-screen appears, the customer has to press F4 for help.
    Another screen pos up.
-> in that screen, in the FIRST ROW, the customer can seach by therms:
       in the first column:  KEYS
       secound column:  Text
       other columns:  attributes if available
he also has the possibility to search with *
      like  ZS*  for ZSAMSUNG
    try out, it works

  • How to get data using BEx variable

I've build a universe upon a Bex query with a variable.
When refreshing a WeBi report upon this universe with the filter (BEx variable) it works fine and returns data. The same does the QaaWS.
But when I use this QaaWS as a source for Xcelsius dashbord it doesn't return any data. The input value for the variable is the same in all cases, e.g.  K4/2009.
What should be done to fix the issue?

What Xcelsius patch version you use?
If I recall correct, this is known issue that was suppose to be fixed in Xcelsius 2008 SP2

  • BEx Variable Key/Name swap when used as Prompt in WebI report

    Hi,
We are using Bex Variables in a Query used as a base for a BOBJ Universe and Query.
When refreshing the report the Prompt box displays the Name and Key of the infoobject (Dimension), but when selecting one of those values - moving it to the right, it brings across the Name not Key.
Our requirement is that the Key is selected value rather than the name - is this possible? And if so how?
    Netweaver 2004S & Business Objects XI 3.0.
    Regards,
    Laurence

    Ingo,
Thanks, I understand this in the background the Key is used, but is there any way to "swap" the Key and Name in the Prompt box, specifically my users want the Key to display in the right hand side of the Prompt bax when selecting, (or in the dropdown box, in the Prompt tab in WebI)

  • Cascading LOV in BEx Query OLAP Universe + BEx variable

    Hi gurus,
we have an universe where a Cascading LOV has been defined based on a BO Hierarchy ( based on a BW hierarchy), the OLAP universe is based on a BEx query.
Now, when the users create a WebI report selecting a value from the value list, the Cascading LOV appears and the user selects the value, descending by the nodes.
We are analyzing the universe performance and we are testing to add some time BEx variables in the query ( in the current version no variables are used).
Everything works properly but when we try to select a value from the Cascading LOV and try to select a lower level the webI returns a mdx error indicanting that the time variable is not informed. (WIS 10901: A database error ocurred; MDX query can not be executed: specify a value for the variable Z... )
We thought that the mdx for the LOV get values from the MD table because in the infoobject definition, it has the Business Explorer Settings:
Query Def. Filter Value Selection = Value in Master Data Table
Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn  = Value in Master Data Table
The Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn  can be defined at the infoprovider also (with the provider specific Properties of the infoobject) and also at the query, whe have not modify none of them.
My first question is which settings has efect at OLAP Universes, the infoobject settings; the infocube settings or the query settings ?
Are the Cascading LOV integrated with BEx Query OLAP Universe?
    Is it an application error?
    Many Thanks in advanced.
    Best Regards,
    Nuria

    Hi Ingo,
many thanks for your quick answer.
That was one of the possibilities we have analized but the problem is that the user has to inform the hierarchy level for all the reports, that kind of variables is translated in the universe as a prompt
Now we have only one universe and some business analists users create reports themselves for the business area based on that universe.
The users create WebI filters without prompts, just filtering the hierarchy node. If we add the BEx variable then the user sould inform the prompt for all the reports based on that universe.
We want to avoid that prompt, we have several hierarchies in the query for different infoobjects.
    Thanks again.
    Best Regards,
    Nuria

  • XI 3.0 Open Document and BEx variables (prompts)

Can open document in Web Intelligence 3.0  be used to pass values to BEx variable/prompt (where the BEx variable is part of a query which populates the universe)?
    Thanks

We were actually able to get this to work, but the we have discovered we cannot pass values that have two words.
For example, the value "Batteries" is accepted successfully.  But the value "Fuel and Gases" is not passed successfully.
Here is the open document syntax (as generated by the wizard):
    ="< a href=\"https://stld9862.hydroone.com:8081/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?iDocID=M0jqGzEABdqBABTwlgAAQ.IAAo4KDH8AAAA&sIDType=CUID&sType=wid&sRefresh=Y&lsMMaterial%20Group%20Mandatory="URLEncode(""URLEncode([L01 Material Group]))"&sWindow=New\" title=\"\" target=\"_self\" nav=\"doc\">"[L01 Material Group]+"</ a>"
Please note, I changed the tags <a to < a so to keep the formula in BOBJ syntax.

  • Connection between 2 variables in bex variables screen

    Hi all,
Can anyone help me please with the following scenario?
I need to create a connection between 2 variables in BEx variables screen.
    Example:
2 variables in the selection screen:
    Prod Hier. 1
    Prod Hier. 2
When a user make a selection in the first var. (Prod Hier. 1) in the var screen, i need that the F4 help in the second variable will show only the Prod Hier. 2 that is under Prod Hier. 1.
    Any help will be gratitude,
    Y.B

    Hi,
    your question:
When creating a replacementpath variable you don't have the option to make it depends on other variable entry (i didn't find the option) I'm using BEx 7
    Answer:
In BI7.0 Query designer, replacement path with other variable entry is possbile.
    your requirement:
When a user make a selection in the first var. (Prod Hier. 1) in the var screen, i need that the F4 help in the second variable will show only the Prod Hier. 2 that is under Prod Hier. 1.
    my answer:
replacement path with variable  will not suit your requirement as far as i know.. any way let us wait for other experts reply...might be someonw knowing.
if it is useful assign points.

  • BEx Variable in Webi Report questions

    Hi Gurus,
    Here is my issue.
I created a BEx Query 0SD_C03 Cube with following fields
    Two Columns
    One Key Figure:                   Subtotal1
One Restricted Key Figure:  Subtotal with restriction " Sales Organization 1000"
    Two Rows                             Plant, Sales Organization
    One Variable with Sales Organization.
When I ran this query in BEx Analyzer I can see all Sales Organization values in prompt list, How ever when I created a Universe and ran a webi query I can see 1000 in the Sales Organization list.
Is this because I have restricted Key Figure with Sales Organization 1000 in the query?
I removed my Restricted Key Figure from my query and tried again this time I see some 10 Sales Oraganizations but I didn't see all available Sales Organizations. Does BO Universe LOVs restricte the list?
    Thanks

  • Urgent!!! How to give a value to a BEx variable in the planning fuction?

    Hi all,
does anybody know how can set variable's value in the palnning fuction (type exit) in IP?
The two function modules in BPS which make this job don't work in the IP.
thanks very much for any proposal.
    hongwei

    Hi,
Reg the first part of the question, can you please explain how do you want to capture the variable for the custom planning function? Because, when I look at standard functions delivered by SAP, in the FROM CHANGE and TO CHANGE(for example copy function), we can select the BI variables or create new variables also.
To pass the values to this variable from BEx Analyzer, we need to use the command range in BEx Analyzer and capture the values.
I have used this approach to capture the BEx variable values into a FOX function using VARV function, but Im not pretty sure how to pass it to a custom planning function.
Regarding the second part of the question can you pls look at FM :   RSPLSSE_PLSEQ_EXECUTE. I think you need to embedd your planning function into a sequence and call it with the above FM.
You can also have a look at the ABAP program that is used to trigger a planning sequence by placing a breakpoint in any of the planning functions : "RSPLS_PLSEQ_EXECUTE" wherein you can pass the sequence name in the variant.

  • BEx variable 0FPER could not be evaluated

    Hi,
I am using BW ver 3.1, For one of the infopackage which uses OLAP variable in selection  gives the error message for Fiscal period.
"BEx variable 0FPER could not be evaluated - No error message."
one way for this problem is using 0P_PRFP1 instead of 0FPER.
Does anybody have come across this error anytime?
    Early response appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Where are the BEx variable stored

    Hi All,
I have couple of doubts. I would appreciate, if some one can through some light on these.
    1. Where does all the BEx variables stored, if they are stored in BW, then in which transparent tables these are stored.
    2. Where does the properties of the BEx InfoObject in the BEX Query are stored, if they are stored in BW, then in which transparent tables these are stored.
    Thanks in advance,
    CK

    Hi Sudheer,
Are you ready for have some fun?!?
With BW Analyzer loaded and one of your BW workbooks open in Excel do the following:
First, launch the Visual Basic Editor.  You do this either on the Excel Menu Bar (Tools >> Macro >> Visual Basic Editor); or, by pressing Alt + F11.
Be sure that the Project Explorer Window is visible.  If not, on the VB Editor toolbar select View >> Project Explorer; or, press Ctrl + R.
Projects are listed alphabetically.  Probably the first object you see in the Project list is SAPBEX(sapbex.xla).  This is the BW Analyzer.  You can't open it, but you can explore it using the VB Editor Object Browser.  More about that later.
For now, locate your workbook.  It will probably be named VBAProject(name of workbook.xls).  If there is a "+" to the left of the project name, click on the + to expand it.
You will see at least two types of objects:
    + Microsoft Excel Objects
    + Modules
    Expand them both.
Among the Microsoft Excel Objects, you will see worksheets, maybe charts, and the object for the workbook itself (ThisWorkbook).
Each sheet has two names.  The first is the codename.  The second is the name you see on the tabs when you are in Excel.
Notice that there are two more worksheets here than you see in Excel.  One of these has a "tab name" of SAPBEXqueries; the other is named SAPBEXfilters.
There is nothing you can do in Excel to make these sheets visible.  They are not ordinary hidden worksheets.
There are two ways you can make them visible:
    1.  using the Properties Window
    2.  using Visual Basic code
If the Properties Window is not visible, on the VB Editor toolbar select View >> Properties Window; or, press F4.  Double-click on the worksheet object to select it.  Then, change the Visible Property to Visible.
Or, use this line of code (for example):
    Sheets("SAPBEXqueries").Visible = True
to return it to its original condition, the VBA command is:
    Sheets("SAPBEXqueries").visible = xlSheetVeryHidden
Now I must tell you that anything you do from this point on is not covered by your warranty.  Don't worry, you can't break BW.  But, you can create a beautiful report that stops working with the next system patch that gets installed.
Now that you are looking at these sheets, you probably would like to have a guide as to what they contain.  I posted some of that a few months ago.  I can't locate the posting right now.  You can do a search on my name to find it.  Or, if you wait, I'll find it and post the link to this thread.
But ... there is a better way than reading my old posting.  Try this ... refresh a query in Excel.  Then, come back to the Visual Basic Editor.  Select the BW Analyzer Object ...  SAPBEX(sapbex.xla).  Then, on the VB Editor menu, select Run >> Run Macro (F5); scroll down to sapbexDebugPrint and run that macro.  It will create an amazing workbook that tells you everything you could ever want to know about the query you just refreshed. (Including a complete list of valid OLAP fire commands.)
By comparing the various worksheets in this amazing workbook with the tables in the very-hidden SAPBEXqueries worksheet, you can learn what just about every one of those tables is all about.
But ... before you get too carried away with making changes to the values on those sheets ... I have found that I can do almost everything I need to do without ever needing to touch those very-hidden worksheets.
What I use mostly are the API functions.  Some of these are listed in the BW documentation.  But, there are about as many API functions that are NOT documented.  To find the API functions ... in the VB Editor, select the BW Analyzer object ... SAPBEX(sapbex.xla).  Then, select on the VE Editor menu bar, select View >> Object Browser (F2).  Change the Library to SAPBEX (this does not work unless you have already selected the SAPBEX oject).  In the Classes column, scroll down to xBEXapi.  You will now see listed all of the API functions and subroutines.
The Object Browser tells you ALMOST everything you need to know.  Most people need a few examples to get them started.  You can look at my postings here to find examples.  Or, just do a search on "SAPBEX".  Almost every hit will lead to a discussion and/or example of these API functions.
When you have more questions, write back.

  • How to Install Business Content BEX Variables.

    Hi Experts.
i want to install all the standard bex variables
(exits, formulas) available in business content.
when i go to the business content i see lot of variables
of 0CALDAY which one to install ?. and even after installation of all none of them seem to appear in the BEX query designer?.
    Is there anything am missing?
    Thanks,
    Hari Anand.

    Hi,
A little correction to Aby's reply.
You don't have to have something like Billing date mapped to 0CALDAY in transfer rules.
It's enough to have just 0CALDAY.
The other dates (if you need them), like billing date, receiving date etc. are created as A REFERENCE TO 0CALDAY.
It means that to all derivative dates you may apply variables created on 0CALDAY.
You may not see all variables installed from a business content. -- Some variables are created on a particular infoobject and you can see those variables in the left panel, beneath this infoobject.
There are also text and formula variable that might be independent from infoobjects. You can see them while creating a formulas in structures.
    Best regards,
    Eugene
