BI Beans

Hi,
I am a developer working mostly on Microsoft technologies but I am trying to learn BI Beans out of curiosity. I have a very basic knowledge of Java so my question is how thorough should i be to develop applications using BI Beans or how much of java is needed for BI Beans?
Thanks in advance

JDeveloper/BI Beans provides a set of default applications which can get you up and running quickly with zero coding. However, if greater functionality is required, you will need more than a basic knowledge of Java.

  • Get the values from the bean class?

    Hi Praveen and all can u please suggest in this,
    I have developped an application In that Create One java class that Extends PageProcesscomponenet and utilizing the Bean That have the Connetion method and retriving the query Based on the Logon customer and spoof customer.
    this functionality I have developped in Pageprocessor component.
    The same functinality I am utilizing another java Class that Extends AbstractPortalcomponent  and utilizing the same Bean.
    But the problem both java classes for I used one Jsp only Dynmic spoof customer will come from the JSP Input filed.
    In the new Java Class How can I capture the Event When I click the Buttong the InputField value capturing into the AbstractPortalcomponent Class.
    I tried like this but It comes as Null Value.
    Event event = myContext.getCurrentEvent();
                              if(event!=null)
                                  InputField ip= (InputField) myContext.getComponentForId("spoofCust");
                                  String spoofCust=ip.getValue().toString();

    Lohitha,
    Try replacing your two lines of code:
    InputField ip= (InputField) myContext.getComponentForId("spoofCust");
    String spoofCust=ip.getValue().toString();
    with:
    InputField ip = (InputField) getComponentByName("spoofCust");
    String spoofCust = ip.getValueAsDataType().toString();
    Let me know how that works for you.

  • What is the better way to open and close connection in bean

    Hello, may i ask about the best way to open and close the connection?
    At the first, the connection code is store in Conn class bean. The JSP page will call a method in Process bean to process the query and update of database. the Process bean is using th Conn to connect to database.
    In my process bean, it have a method for each type of sql like select, insert, update, and delete for each tables. Each method will call the Conn to open and close the connection. The jsp page can simply call a method retrieve or update records.
    However, when calling the processUpdate method, it is a method that update a group of tables base on the query result of another group of tables and calculation. If I calling the query method in the same bean file, it will open and close the connection many times (more than 1000 times). After open and close the connection several times, the connection to mySQL will be fail.
    Currently, i include 2 method in Process that is only calling the Conn to open the connection and close connection. When calling the openConnection method, it will also set the boolean connected in the class to true and call Conn to open connection. When calling the closeConnection method, it will also set the boolean connected in the class to false and call Conn to close connection.
    After that, i add some change to the query method which is when the connected is false, it will open the connection by calling the Conn and close the connection themself. If the connected is true, it will not call the Conn to open and close the connection because it already connected to the database.
    Now, i when i calling the query method in jsp, it can open the connection and close the connection individually. When i call the processUpdate in the jsp, this method will calling the openConnection before calling the query and calling closeConnection at the end. It not only faster the process(less open and close), it also no cause the connect to mySQL fail error again. However, it also make the coding in the bean file more longer and complex.
    Is there have any better solution?

    Use connection pooling. This will put the connection management in the hands of the webserver, not your code. Check out this post:

  • Bean is not working in jsff

    hi All
    i developed 4 .jsff fragments and i have included in jspx page .
    i created one bean with 4 variable and i crated datacontrole for the same bean .
    when i am mapping these variables with components which are in .jsff fragments . the values are not coming .
    when i run the .jspx page i am not getting any error and i am getting out put without values which i have written and mapped in the bean .
    Any one please help me.

    Sounds like you are including jsff in the jspx using jsp:include, this approach may not help you if the jsff is built using ADF Binding. Please note that jsp:include will load only the page definition file associated with the parent/containing page.If you are planning to reuse jsff, try defining it as taskflow and embed the same as a region in the jspx

    One reason that I sometimes get 'NoSuchMethodError' is when I make a change to a
    java class that is imported into another java class. When I go to run the
    importing class, it will throw a 'NoSuchMethodError' on any methods that I've
    changed in the imported class. The solution is to recompile the importing class
    with the changed classes in the classpath.

  • How can i design a EJB application using session Beans?

    Hello,
    I am designing a Find application using EJB. Here a user is prompted a search page, where he can enter the search criteria's. Then on click of submit, the query is formed at the server side depending on what criteria's were selected. Then a jdbc query is performed and the results are returned back to the user. Here no session is maintained for the users. Can anyone suggest me how to design this application using EJB. Should i use entity beans for this or session beans will suffice? Should the jdbc query be performed in the bean itself or should it be outside in a helper class? Please kindlu suggest me the design for this application...
    Regards,
    Subbu

    Hi,
    First of all, I'm unable to figure out why you need to use EJB for this scenario. You can write a helper class to frame and execute the query.
    If you really want to use EJB, then I suggest you use a stateless Session Bean with transaction attribute as TX_NOT_SUPPORTED. From the session bean, you can call the helper class. But, by avoiding the session bean, you can eliminate remote calls, thus improving your performance. Also, check if the database & the db driver you are using supports sql caching.
    Regards,
    Raj.

    I've deleted some of the columns because they are all equal and by doing so, you have less problems in reading it.
    In my method i have a matchEm but i'm trying to select a column by using this line:
            dimAnos.setColumnSelection("A2012");
    dimAnos is the binding for my table Anos (Years in Portuguese). I even tried another values fro the columnSelection but i couldn't make it selected. Am i doing anything wrong?
    Please help me or give me an idea of how can i do this.
    Regards,
    Frederico.

    Hi Frederico,
    The method setColumnSelection is meant to set whether your table supports column selection or not. It doesn't select the column. In order to select the column, you need to set the column attribute Selected to true. So I don't know if its an option for you but you can create a binding to all the columns you have in you bean, and then call the method A2012.setSelected(true), and then add a partial target to the table to re render it and show the selected column.
    Hope this helps

  • How to track log information in a bean?

    I would like to track some information, e.g., variable value, error, in a bean.
    I am using System.out.prinln in the bean. I did not see any in the log file of Tomcat5. But this information was shown if from Servelet class.
    I also tried to pass error information to class logger, but I do not where the class logger is?
    Is it a file somewhere?
    Guangming

    A good idea is to use something like Log4J to handle logging in your application. You do have to be careful if your application is clustered and there is serialization involved since your logger won't be serializable, causing clustering to fail (I swear it didn't happen to me)....
    private transient Logger log = null;
    protected final Logger getLogger() {
        if (this.log == null)
            this.log = LogFactory.getLogger(this.getClass());
        return this.log;
    }

  • Error while adding a new method to the Session Bean

    Hello everyone. I'm using jdev 11g, ejb, jpa & jsf. Everything works fine. But when I try to add a custom method to the Session Bean, I'm having an error.
    Here is my steps:
    1) I added a new method to SessionBean.java. Something like this:
    public void Hello() {
    System.out.println("Hello!");
    2) Then using Structure palette I exposed this method through Local interface and created data control
    3) Finally, I made a command button binded to this method (just droped it from DataControls.dcx to my page)
    When I start the page and click the button, I'm having the following error:
    Error 500--Internal Server Error
    javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: Method not found: Hello.execute(javax.faces.event.ActionEvent)
         at org.apache.myfaces.trinidadinternal.taglib.util.MethodExpressionMethodBinding.invoke(MethodExpressionMethodBinding.java:58)
         at org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.component.UIXComponentBase.broadcastToMethodBinding(UIXComponentBase.java:1227)
         at org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.component.UIXCommand.broadcast(UIXCommand.java:183)
         at oracle.adf.view.rich.component.fragment.ContextSwitchingComponent$1.run(ContextSwitchingComponent.java:70)
    ... (I've truncated the log because there is nothing important in the missing part)

    Yes, I have binding in the page def. Everything is correct there:
    <methodAction id="Hello" RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="invokeMethod"
    MethodName="Hello" IsViewObjectMethod="false"
    DataControl="PriceServiceLocal"
    InstanceName="PriceServiceLocal.dataProvider"/>
    I've droped the method from the Data Controls panel

  • Error while opening a popup from managed bean

    Hi,
    I am trying to open a popup from bean, after another popup is closed. When I open the second popup either through ActionListener(on first popup button) or DialogListener(on first popup), I am getting the below error on browser status bar(!); and the second popup doesn't open. There is no error in the log.
    *'AdfPage.PAGE.findComponent(...)' is null or not an object.*
    Although the popup id is there on the jspx page.
    <af:popup id="confirmationStatus" binding="#{MyBean1.confirmationStatus}">
    <af:dialog cancelVisible="false"
    closeIconVisible="false" binding="#{MyBean1.d2}"
    title="Appointment Confirmation Status">
    <af:outputText value="Appointment is successfully confirmed"/>
    </af:dialog>
    </af:popup>
    public void confirmAppointment_dialogListener(DialogEvent dialogEvent) {
    FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExtendedRenderKitService service = Service.getRenderKitService(context, ExtendedRenderKitService.class);
    String popupId = "confirmationStatus";
    service.addScript(context,"AdfPage.PAGE.findComponent('" + popupId + "').show();");
    Please tell me why my popup is not getting open from the managed bean and I am getting an error in below line.
    service.addScript(context,"AdfPage.PAGE.findComponent('" + popupId + "').show();");

    To find out the right address of a component related to an other component, open your page select the component you want to add a partial trigger, go to the partial trigger property, select the down arrow at the right end and select 'Edit'. Now look for the popup in the component tree shown on the left side. When you have found the popup shuffle it the the selected side and click OK. The string you see in the field is the full address of the popup related to he component you've selected. Try the string you see there in your bean code. Remove the string from the partial trigger property, it's just to get the correct path.
    One other thing to check is that your popup has the ClientComponent property set to true.
    Next thing to try, is to use AdfPage.PAGE.findComponentByAbsoluteId(...)

  • Calling EJB 3.0 Stateless Session Bean

    Dear all,
    I created a stateless session bean with a hello world method on it. Now i want to call the method from a BeanDecorator class, through a getter metod. When i use the jndi lookup in my getter, i can call the helloWorld method without a problem. However, when i dont use the jndi lookup, and only use the @EJB annotation, i always get a nullpointer.
    This is working:
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
                   test = (TestLocal)ic.lookup("test.be/ear~bd/LOCAL/TestBean/"+TestLocal.class.getName());
                   test.helloWorld()
    This gives nullpointer:
    @EJB
    private TestLocal test;
    test.helloWorld();
    What is the correct way to consume session beans without having to explicitly code the jndi lookup?
    Kind regards.

    Hi,
    any annotation like this can be used only in "managed classes" like Session Beans, Servlets etc. Managed classes are those classes managed by the J2EE server. Managed here means, lifetime controlled by server.
    You can find this in J2EE specification.

  • EJB 3.0 - Communicate an Applet with a Session Bean

    Hello
    I'm developing an EJB 3.0 app (eclipse and glassfish tools bundle), and I have an applet that has to use remote session beans.
    QUESTION: Is it possible for the applet to connect to EJB?
    QUESTION: By creating a J2EE application client project, can I use @EJB annotations to inject the session bean directly to the applet, avoiding the JNDI lookup?
    (since I imagine that the anwser to the second one is NO, I do the following consideration)
    Given an application client project, I imagine that this application can run remotely on a client machine/JRE. Then this application can use Annotations/injection facilities whenever it runs on a J2EE client container (which I assume consists of a set of libraries provided by the application server vendor, Glassfish in that case). Could this application be deployed using Java Web Start? If so, why can't it be deployed as an applet? (both options run in a client JRE, don't they?).
    QUESTION: In either case (applet or JWS), how do I have to package the JAR file (using Eclipse) so that it contains the needed libraries for accessing the EJB? Which are those libraries?
    At the time being, I'm trying to implement a sample application that follows the "Applet doing JNDI lookup" approach. I have:
    - an EAR project
    - an EJB project (containing an Entity Bean and a Stateless Session Bean with a @Remote interface)
    @Remote
    public interface HelloRemote {
         public String hello(String name);
    @Stateless
    public class Hello implements HelloRemote {
         @Override
         public String hello(String name) {
              return "Hello "+name+"!!";
    }- an Application Client project (containing the applet code):
    public class ClientApplet extends JApplet {
         public void init(){
              try {
                   Context jndiContext = getInitialContext( );
                   HelloRemote server = (HelloRemote) jndiContext.lookup(HelloRemote.class.getName());
                   setContentPane(new JLabel(server.hello("Gerard")));
              } catch (NamingException e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
         private Context getInitialContext() throws NamingException{
              Properties props = new Properties();
              props.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial", "com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory");
              props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", "myhost");
              props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "3700");
              return new InitialContext(props);
    }- a static web project (with a sample web page that contains the applet object the corresponding applet JAR file)
    I tried to export the Application Client project as an "application client JAR", in the hope that the java EE libraries bundled with glassfish (listed as libraries of this project) would be packaged too.
    No success, so now I'll try to copy all the JAR files (one by one) into the +\WebContent\+ folder of the Web Project, and add references to each of them in the archive="" attribute of the +<applet>+ HTML tag. Although this might work, I suspect that I am missing the good/easy way of doing it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gerard

    An Applet can communicate with an EJB via JNDI lookup but I would (personally) use an intermediate Servlet to handle this. Client to Servlet communication is http whereas to ejb is iiop - which might be blocked.
    Injection only works in managed classes (EJB, Servlet, Listeners..) and an Application Client main class. So yes you could use an app client for handling resource injection.

  • Calling Enity Bean's business methods from a session bean in EJB 3.0 specif

    This is my first participation in this forum.

    Please can someone you help me with an example

    @Vladimir Pavlov
    I did not understand what you are trying to convey...
    Whenever an attribute of this bean is modified we want to access that latest value.... Is there any way to know, when the attribute is modified? Just with get/set we can not know, when it is modified... am i right?
    We want to achieve this without modifying the existing source code of the EJB....
    @ Ivo Simeonov
    As of my knowledge, to use interceptors we need to modify the EJB source code, but we do not want to touch the source code....
    All this has to be achieved dynamically when the application is deployed in the production.... is it possible???

  • How to use jta in toplink and stateless session bean EJB 3.0?

    I have an application with techologies jsf,stateless session bean, adf, toplink
    generated by toplink workbench.
    In web side ı want to use two methods in stateless session bean which are updated
    different tables. I call these methods in my page backing bean.
    I also want to JTA in web side. My first methods is done correctly, but second method has an error. I wanto to rollback all transaction.

    Did you manage to solve this?  I'm doing something similar and seeing the same problem, although they're up to 7.3 SP7.

  • Entity bean (ejb 3.0) refactoring problem

    I didn't find a better method than regenerating an entity bean after modifying the table definition and renaming the class after deleting the old one.
    I'm not sure i can delete the old class representing the entity bean before regenerating it without any effects into the others entity beans.
    It work fine but still a little problem. The refactoring process didn't change the name of the entity bean into the select clauses into queynamed injection.

    I am facing a similar problem. Does JDeveloper 10g (10.1.3.3.0) provide an automatic process to update an Entity Bean definition when the underlying database table definition changes?
    I also noticed that for JDeveloper to create all the relationships (i.e. @OneToMany, @ManyToOne) between multiple Entity beans, I need to create all the Entity beans together in one pass using the wizard. If two entities depend on each other, and not created together, JDeveloper will not create the relationships between them. Is there a way around that?
    Thank you
