Can anyone please tell me the real time flow in SAP BI Project like the duties of BI Developer.
And after developing the queries how will we deliver the reports the clients.

Hi, here while speaking of SAP BI developer we need to recognize either it is BW backend or frontend developer.
I believe you are more interesting in frontend = report developing. Developer is developing BW queries according technical (or just functional) design document. So he is really developing all of elements for (variables, calculated/restricted key figures, restricted characteristics, global structures, formulas, etc) BW queries in tool called BEx Query Designer. This is happening in usually in so called development system. Elements of queries and query it self are being transported form development to test (finally to production) system by SAP Transport Management System (STMS) which is tool provided by SAP for transporting objects across system landscape.

I'm a ABAPer (Developer too), i will join into a SAP development and maintenance project that use the SAP XI. In order to prepare for this project, now i should determine and study the "Specific Skills/Tasks required" for a ABAPer (Developer too) in development and maintenance project with SAP XI technology platform. I see in our forum with thread:

that: A developer will take care of "Mapping Task" with "ABAP Mapping" or "JAVA Mapping".

Setting up development environment with several projects

We struggle with Workshop when having a large workshop application. One way of getting out of this issue was to use several deployments and to use WSRP as a mechanism to get resources from several deployed portlet applications. Performance isn't an issue for our deployment.
This setup might help us with having smaller Workshop applications and making the development environment more efficient, but we see some issues with this.
- Framework package
How should we handle the framework part with CSS files. Duplicating these framework files is not a good solution since some developers most certainly will forget to update all framework files when editing them.
- Portal Administration
Can we just drop the portal administration web app in the most of the workshop application?
- Data project
We use a custom UUP. How should this be handled when splitting the workshop application into several smaller applications?

I used this for a little different purpose; we wanted to generate the whole development environment at one mouse click (formsweb.cfg, reports server etc.); as we used ANT for creating the svn local working copy for each developer we used ANT for this. but you can also use perl or bash :D.
I'd create one template, then loop through all directorys and append the configs to a temp file
/var
/you
/not_you=> create one config section named as the folder in the temp file basing on your template.
in your real formsweb.cfg you might append a line like
# THE DEVELOPER CONFIGS STARTS HERE
after that you locate your config-entries.
when the temp formsweb.cfg is ready, simply delete everything after
# THE DEVELOPER CONFIGS STARTS HERE
and append the configs from the temp file.
That's the way I'd do this ;)

Where do I find a qualified PhotoShop Plug-in filter developer for a freelance project?

I need to hire a programmer (freelance) to develop a PhotoShop plug-in filter. I'm in the SF Bay area, but unfamiliar with the industry. I know I need someone skilled in C++, algorithms, PhotoShop SDK and Mac platform. I just don't know where I should be looking to find a qualified person or company.
A web search for PhotoShop programmer doesn't bring up what I need. A Craigslist search under Computers didn't come up with anyone with PhotoShop Plug-in experience. Sites like Freelance.com, GetACoder.com, etc., provide few responses and all are "off-shore".
Where should I search for a programmer (Preferably Bay Area) for my project?

Steps to develop a s/w Project

Hi,
Am developing a project using netbeans4.1 and tomcat 5.5.9. It is website with Oracle9i but i dont know from where to start about project. Some say abt SCM(Software configuration management) some say abt Factory Methods other say first make UML. Plz tell me what are the steps to develop a website or java project. Is there any guidelines that we have to follow. I got totally confused any suggestion would be helpfull.

Now i got the idea how to start with project development....this is given by Scott i wanna share with you...
few suggestions:
1. Keep your modeling efforts simple. See Agile Requirements Best Practices.
2. If you think you'll have a lot of pages, then you should consider a UI flow fiagram to "map out" what your site will look like.
3. I'd consider drawing UI screen sketches to design your pages.
4. Some sort of understanding of how people are going to use your system is critical to your success. Consider informal use cases for this. Many people get hung up on use cases because they go into bureaucratic documentation mode and create overly detailed formal use cases.
5. Implement your system in URL=http://www.agilemodeling.com/essays/changeManagement.htm]priority order.
6. You don't need to identify all the details up front. Get the high level idea in the beginning and then model storm the details on an as needed basis.

The most common structure for building a WebDynPro application is to expose functionality from underlying systems and present it using the WebDynPro UI. Often the underlying system is a SAP ERP/CRM type system, but can also be any WebService compliant system, or a combination of both.
Using the Netweaver System Landscape Directory (SLD), WebDynPro can send and receive data independantly of the source. SAP ERP/CRM systems will expose their functionality using RFC-enabled BAPIs. These functions can be standard SAP delivered modules or custom developed using ABAP.
The choice of where to develop your business logic really depends on the history/strengths of your organisation. If you have a strong history of ABAP development in SAP, then it would be recommended to use ABAP for your business logic and WebDynPro for UI. If J2EE is the strong suit, use that instead.
The WebDynPro interface runs in a browser (either IE or Firefox) however there is a beta version of a WebDynPro GUI for Windows which may offer some performance improvements.

Restrict a developer to only predefined project

Hello SM Experts,
In Change Management, I want that a User with a Developer role can only take over development work for his assigned Implementation project(s) and not the other existing ones.
How can I restrict this using the roles? I tried using B_SMAN_WPL Authorization, but wasnt successful.
Your help/tips will be appreciated.

Hello Maulin,
the authorization object S_PROJECT controls the access to a project. If you do not have ACTVT = 23 you can only display the project but not chnage anything. If you do not have ACTVT = 03 you can not even open it. If you want the user onlt to work on some tabs , you have to use in addition object AI_SA_TAB.

How do SolMan identify development for which implementation project

I have the option to create many Implementation project for the same landscape and more than one Development(Implementation) Change Requests. My doubt here is how SolMan identifies for which implementation project, the Change request development should be created?

Hi Farzan,
I am not deep into ChaRM; does it not work on the premise of 'IMG Projects' in the respective satellite systems ?
If so, your two implementation proejcts will in turn, lead to two IMG projects in those satellite systems and thus, ChaRM can keep a track as to which CTS falls under which IMG Project.
Please let me know if this is the case. I'll get back if I have a more definitive answer.

you need to use something called OCA/ODBC- in your installation of Forms there is a file called oca_info.pdf which describes how to connect forms to different data sources.

I am planning to create each tranaction as a seperate WebDynPro Component and calling in the Main Componet in a single Project and Application.
The sub components are having different view and view sets.How to interface with the main component to call the views and view sets of sub components.

You mean Developer Release 2? You may search with "forms", "reports"
in store.oracle.com. I found Forms Bulider available in Oracle store. I didn't
try for the other components in Developer. Another point: For the purpose of
learning it's better to buy a product with "Trial License". I'm sure you are aware
of that.

Project Management duties on Web Developer Project

As a Project Managment Leader in a Web Developers work shop what are the main duties of a Project Manager?
Here is what I have so far:
1st Step - Gather Requirements
2nd Step - List the Tasks which would include the Database design, Data Modeling, Scripts, and Testing.
3rd Step - Define each Task Duration (or estimated Completion date)
4th Step - Assign Resources and/or Technology, Also give out max units of each resource to define how much time they will be spending on the Project.
Also give Estimate Project Completion date.
5th Step - Define Milestones when specific Tasks should be completed
6th Step - Plan and set up Test environment
Please advise.

Step 7 - go back and reanalyse requirements as the client has changed their mind
Step 8 - Shift estimate of Project completion date back due to unforseen complexities
Step 9 - Scrap the test plan in the interests of getting it out the door quickly
Step 10 - rewrite the entire application from scratch using .net technologies
But seriously - don't forget to factor in for the unforseen. These projects always take longer than anyone thinks they should. Don't set your milestone dates in concrete. "I love deadlines. I love the 'whoosh' sound they make as they go past."
Seriously that I think is what makes or breaks a project manager. Not the pretty pictures and unrealistic timescale diagrams that they churn out, that everyone then faithfully ignores, but the ability to deal with issues as they arise

Error while building development component project

Hi all,
I have created one webdynpro application in which i am importing javabean model using jars in my build path.I am able to execute that application successfully but when i try to import that application in a new development component project, i am getting errors in my bean class (IPrivateBeanclassname) for some getter setter methods saying the method is not defined....
I have put the same jar in its build path also.
Can somebody please help...

Hi,
I am importing the application as follows:
1) I have developed a web dynpro project. This project has a jar file for getting the java classes. The web dynpro application works fine.
2) I imported this application into a Development Component Project. Here it fails to recognize the jar file that is required. Even if I put the jar file in its build path, while building, the jar file gets removed.It says java build path errors.
