BI Workload info in ST03N

Hi All,
We are not getting any information coming into the BI Workload area of ST03n
We recently completed an EHP upgrade on our BI 7.0 system to EHP1.
We donu2019t feel that this issue is EHP related but more down to someone in the dev team re-scheduling jobs.
We have re-scheduled all the jobs mentioned here:
We have also checked all the settings required within RSA1.
Does anyone know what job or function brings in the BI Workload data into ST03N? or know of a Help or SAP Note that might guide us in the right direction?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Paul

Hi Paul
Do you have all the relevant reports in TCOLL table?
Please check the SAP note https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/966309
Content of TCOLL are release-dependent. Please search with "Content of TCOLL" and check the notes according to your release.

  • Analysis of Workload Statistics through ST03n

    Hello All,
I am monitoring performance of transaction Vl01n. The workload  table access statistics(St03n) for this transaction shows 0 modificatios, 0 direct reads, 0 sequential reads on table LTAK and has the top access time for the transaction (almost 90% of the total response time of the transaction).
My question here is that, <b>what other operation can cause such high response time when the Workload shows 0 modificatios, 0 direct reads, 0 sequential reads.</b>
Also the STAD data shows that this transaction has high response time with LTAK being the major contributor, when the Work process type Is <b>'U'</b>. Can we make assumptions that the operation being performed is Update?

    Hi Vijay,
well - no db accesses but still high response time?
Possibly RFC, NETWORK, PAGING, CPU, SERIALIZATION on shared resources... There are SO MANY possible for a high response time.
And yes, if the WP-Type is U then it's a UPDATER.
So, easiest step would probably be to perform a STO5 SQL Trace of the VI01n transaction. If it's about the database you'll find it out there.
If not, then it's perhabs time to open a support message.

  • ST03N Raise Exception Shortdump when Access BI Workload

    Dear Experts,
Now i'm using BI 7.0 for SEM-BPS purposes. SAP Support package i used now is
    SAPKB70013, SAPKA70013, SAPKIPYJ7D, SAPKW70015, SAPK-60010INFINBASIS, SAPKGS6010 and SAPKIBIIP6.
I have problem when try to check BI Workload via Transaction ST03N, "RAISE_EXCEPTION" shortdump always occured when i double click one of workload date. From ST22, mentioned that the errors is related with "SAPLRSDRI" or "LRSDRIU01" or "RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ".
FYI this short dump didn't occured before i upgraded my system from Suport package 12 to support package 13. I have tried to implement notes number 1088281 (RAISE_EXCEPTION in RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ) and  1002054 (Dump when reading master data providers) but the shordump still occured. Is there any other solution for this? Any help will be highly apreciate.
Below is the summary of the shortdump.
    ==========================================================
    Runtime Errors         RAISE_EXCEPTION
    Date and Time          11.12.2007 10:55:04
    Short text
         Exception condition "X_MESSAGE" raised.
    What happened?
The current ABAP/4 program encountered an unexpected
         situation.
    Error analysis
A RAISE statement in the program "SAPLRSDRI" raised the exception
        condition "X_MESSAGE".
Since the exception was not intercepted by a superior
        program, processing was terminated.
        Short description of exception condition:
        Other Error from Deeper Modules
For detailed documentation of the exception condition, use
Transaction SE37 (Function Library). You can take the called
function module from the display of active calls.
    How to correct the error
If the error occures in a non-modified SAP program, you may be able to
find an interim solution in an SAP Note.
If you have access to SAP Notes, carry out a search with the following
        keywords:
        "RAISE_EXCEPTION" " "
        "SAPLRSDRI" or "LRSDRIU01"
        "RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ"
        or
        "SAPLRSDRI" "X_MESSAGE"
        or
        "SAPWL_ST03N " "X_MESSAGE"
    Information on where terminated
Termination occurred in the ABAP program "SAPLRSDRI" - in
         "RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ".
The main program was "SAPWL_ST03N ".
In the source code you have the termination point in line 160
        of the (Include) program "LRSDRIU01".
    ============================================================
    Thanks,
    Bagus

    Solution for as was:
      Check RSA1 Data Warehouse Workbench -> Modeling -> InfoProvider;
      - Search for InfoCube 0TCT_VC01; in the context, check "Activate
Direct Access"; Then, click on the "Source Syst.for InfoSource 3.x"
tab, you have to activate the direct access by marking the source
      system (system name) and save.
In ST03N get Short dump exception conditon"x_message"raised
    Cheers,
    Pavel

  • About SAP standard reference value of the statistics data ST03N or ST03

    Dear all,
Did you have a reference value of the statistics data ST03N or ST03?
Because when I saw the statistics data, I realy could not analysis these statistics data, and I also did not sure the value of the statistics data was right or not.
Could anybody give me a good advice?
    Thanks a lot~

    Hi CX,
Glad to know you coming from Mainland China
Let me help you to check the very 'old' SAP training book BC315 2003 version on Chapter 4-18 it says:
n     If a problem is detected, the data in the Workload Monitor (Transaction ST03N) can be used as follows to identify the area of the system where the problem is located.
n     First check for general performance problems affecting all transactions. Good general  performance is normally indicated by:
    Ÿ     Wait time < 10% response time
Ÿ     Main menu (choose Transaction Profile) < 100 ms
n     In the Workload Monitor, the following values normally indicate good performance:
    Ÿ     Average roll-in time < 20 ms
Ÿ     Average roll wait time < 200 ms
Ÿ     Average load (and generation) time < 10 % of response time (<50 ms)
Ÿ     Average database request time < 40 % of (response time - wait time)
Ÿ     Average CPU time < 40 % of (response time - wait time)
Ÿ     Average CPU time Not much less than processing time
Ÿ     Average  response time - Depends on customer requirements – there is no general rule
The last statement is pretty much reasonable coz you cannot expect an old machine running latest SAP version like ECC 6.0 performs as fast as current big giant machine like IBM p5 595.
From my experience sometimes hardware upgrade/configuration is much easier than an SAP Basis to try to drain his brain to get the 5% performance increase. For example, an ECC 5.0 instance which using EMC storage was configured as RAID 5 initially, however later when it was configured as RAID 1+0 the performance increased a lot --- Bottle net was the storage.
Many cases like that...What I mean is that by maximum the hardware of the machine is the first thing to do for an SAP Basis... It's not surprised that a box is only utilized 40% of its memory, of course, by mistake.
Nice to know you again my Mainland friend I've been missing that hometown for long.

  • How to improve Query Performance

    Hi Friends...
I Want to improve query performance.I need following things.
1.What is the process to findout the performance?. Any transaction code's and how to use?.
2.How can I know whether the query is running good or bad ,ie. in performance praspect.
3.I want to see the values i.e. how much time it is taking to run?. and where the defect is?.
4.How to improve the query performance?. After I did the needfull things to improve performance, I want to see the query execution time. i.e. it is running fast or not?.
    Eg..
Eg 1.   Need to create aggregates.
Solution:  where can I create aggregates?. Now I'm in production system. So where I need to create? .i.e. indevelopment or in Quality or in Production system?.
Any chenges I need to do in Development?.Because I'm in Production system.
So please tell me solution for my questions.
    Thanks

This is the oss notes of FAQ on query performance
    1. What kind of tools are available to monitor the overall Query Performance?
    1.     BW Statistics
    2.     BW Workload Analysis in ST03N (Use Export Mode!)
    3.     Content of Table RSDDSTAT
    2. Do I have to do something to enable such tools?
Yes, you need to turn on the BW Statistics:
RSA1, choose Tools -> BW statistics for InfoCubes
(Choose OLAP and WHM for your relevant Cubes)
    3. What kind of tools is available to analyze a specific query in    detail?
    1.     Transaction RSRT
    2.     Transaction RSRTRACE
    4.  Do I have an overall query performance problem?
    i. Use ST03N -> BW System load values to recognize the problem. Use the  number given in table 'Reporting - InfoCubes:Share of total time (s)'  to check if one of the columns %OLAP, %DB, %Frontend shows a high   number in all Info Cubes.
ii. You need to run ST03N in expert mode to get these values
    5. What can I do if the database proportion is high for all queries?
    Check:
    1.     If the database statistic strategy is set up properly for your DB platform (above all for the BW specific tables)
    2.     If database parameter set up accords with SAP Notes and SAP Services   (EarlyWatch)
    3.     If Buffers, I/O, CPU, memory on the database server are exhausted?
    4.     If Cube compression is used regularly
    5.     If Database partitioning is used (not available on all DB platforms)
    6. What can I do if the OLAP proportion is high for all queries?
    Check:
    1.     If the CPUs on the application server are exhausted
    2.     If the SAP R/3 memory set up is done properly (use TX ST02 to find bottlenecks)
    3.     If the read mode of the queries is unfavourable (RSRREPDIR, RSDDSTAT,  Customizing default)
    7. What can I do if the client proportion is high for all queries?
Check whether most of your clients are connected via a WAN  connection and the amount of data which is transferred   is rather high.
    8. Where can I get specific runtime information for one query?
    1.     Again you can use ST03N -> BW System Load
    2.     Depending on the time frame you select, you get historical data or current data.
    3.     To get to a specific query you need to drill down using the InfoCube  name
    4.      Use Aggregation Query to get more runtime information about a   single query. Use tab All data to get to the details.   (DB, OLAP, and Frontend time, plus Select/ Transferred records,  plus number of cells and formats)
    9. What kind of query performance problems can I recognize using ST03N
       values for a specific query?
(Use Details to get the runtime segments)
    1.     High Database Runtime
    2.     High OLAP Runtime
    3.     High Frontend Runtime
    10. What can I do if a query has a high database runtime?
    1.     Check if an aggregate is suitable (use All data to get values "selected records to transferred records", a high number here would  be an indicator for query performance improvement using an aggregate)
    2.     o Check if database statistics are update to data for the   Cube/Aggregate, use TX RSRV output (use database check for statistics  and indexes)
    3.     Check if the read mode of the query is unfavourable - Recommended (H)
    11. What can I do if a query has a high OLAP runtime?
    1.     Check if a high number of Cells transferred to the OLAP (use  "All data" to get value "No. of Cells")
    2.     Use RSRT technical Information to check if any extra OLAP-processing is necessary (Stock Query, Exception Aggregation, Calc. before   Aggregation, Virtual Char. Key Figures, Attributes in Calculated   Key Figs, Time-dependent Currency Translation)  together with a high number of records transferred.
    3.     Check if a user exit Usage is involved in the OLAP runtime?
    4.     Check if large hierarchies are used and the entry hierarchy level is  as deep as possible. This limits the levels of the hierarchy that must be processed. Use SE16 on the inclusion tables and use the List of Value feature on the column successor and predecessor to see which entry level of the hierarchy is used.
    5.     Check if a proper index on the inclusion  table exist
    12. What can I do if a query has a high frontend runtime?
    1.     Check if a very high number of cells and formatting are transferred   to the Frontend (use "All data" to get value "No. of Cells") which   cause high network and frontend (processing) runtime.
    2.     Check if frontend PC are within the recommendation (RAM, CPU MHz)
    3.     Check if the bandwidth for WAN connection is sufficient

    =========================================
Can someone please help me on this issue???
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Leo,
There are number of possibilities for a slow performance but in this narrow platform lets
start with some basic problem and will sort out where the actual issue lies.
    1. Here i could say some lost time is there in  processing time
Proc time = Response time - Wait time - Load time - Generating time -
-Roll (in+wait) time - DB time - Enqueue time
    Just check it!!
    2. As per the threshold, processing time should not be more than 2*CPU. However,
based on our data from ST03N, the processing time is more than 2X CPU
time which might be due to hardware bottleneck or communication problem
    etc...
So monitor theCPU utilisation like ideal CPU % and all.
    3. See the swaps happening in st02.
As from the statistics i could see the high load and generation time.
And high load and generation times normally indicates the program buffer is
too small. If possible consider of increasing the value.
    4. See the transaction profiles and the tables acessed through ST04. As here the DB time
is high we need to see tuning of expensive sql statements and more things....
    5. Does your system runs in Cluster scenario and the memory management moreover
    the ZAMM.
Would like to expect some more input from you so that we can discuss on this regard.
    Hope this will help.
    Thank you,
    Tilak

  • BW 7.0 - Query usage by user

We have technical content activiate but we need to know the number of times users execute given queries with the user id and the query run.
What is the best way to do this? We do not see such statistics with the technical content reports. We are not interested in tuning the system for better performance. We simply want to know how often queries are run and by whom. We prefer to not do this on our own with logs. We hope this is available without resorting to this type of analysis. Surely, someone has this available for BW 7.0. Please advise.

Need your expertise on user logs or traces. here is the story one of the SAP users gave me a message now I want to trace who is responsible for that action. TCODES I used are STAD and SM21 which gave me no result. Upon my further investigation on DEV_W0 file I found out that he/she might used the function TH_POPUP. Please help I need your opinion on how to trace this.
    DEV_W0
    GENER* request remote generation: TH_POPUP======================FT.
Note: I already activate the user log(SM19) for future logs(SM20).
    Thanks and regards

    Hi,
Normally individual messages to users will be sent through FM TH_POPUP from Tcode SE37. If you want to trace which user has sent the message, then check in STAD tcode at that time when you have received the message who all executed SE37 with program name RSFUNCTIONBUILDER or SAPLSFUNCTION_BUILDER. Also, try to get the info from ST03N Transaction or user profile.
    Regards,
    Sharath

  • [Problem] Service Report - SAP EWA - Download Problem

    Hi Gurus
I managed to create and activate EWA for Solman 4.0
but I got problem with the result generated by Solman. Below is the quote from the EWA report
    Download Problem
We were unable to perform a correct analysis because essential parts of the download data are missing.  This is most likely due to a problem with data collection or transfer.
Recommendation: Check the log for this session in the Service Data Control Center (execute transaction SDCC or the new SDCCN in your system).  If an error is listed, perform the Service Preparation Check.
Implementation: To perform the Service Preparation Check, execute transaction SDCC and choose Information -> Service prep. check, or if you are using SDCCN, create a new "Service Preparation Check" task.
i've already run the service preparation check and follow all the recommendation.
and from report RTCCTOOL, i didnt get any recommendation to follow
can anyone help me with this ? thanks
below is my Solution Manager component

    ST-A/PI - 01K_CRM560 - 0000
    ST-ICO - 150_700 - 0007
    ST-SER - 700_2005_2 - 0002
below is the satellite system (SAP server that i try to collect the data for EWA report) component
    SAP ECC 6.0
    SAP_BASIS - 700 - 0005
    SAP_ABA - 700 - 0005
    PI_BASIS - 2005_1_700 - 0005
    ST-PI - 2005_1_700 - 0001
    ST-A/PI - 01K_ECC600 - 0000
    SAP_BW - 700 - 0005
    SAP_AP - 700 - 0002

    Hi Didik,
have you run RTCCTOOL in both systems (SolMan, ECC)?
    ST-A/PI level is OK
ST-PI - 2005_1_700 is not on latest Support Package (SolMan, ECC).
RTCCTOOL will check Support Package Level as well as the availability of important statistical data (for example Workload Statistics, tx ST03N).
Which parts of the EWA do not contain data?
    Best regards,
    Ruediger

  • SAPWL_GET_SUMMARY_STATISTIC no longer returning data

We have been using FM SAPWL_GET_SUMMARY_STATISTIC to get data on who is doing what and what programs are being used for years.  About 2 -3 months ago it stopped getting data.  The program gets the host id from the SAPWLSERV-INSTSHORT.  Our host names for our application servers are 9 characters long so they do not work either.  Has anyone else had this problem or knows a solution?  We are on ERP 5 and will be going to ERP6 this year and it would help to know which programs are the most used.  Thanks!
    Kevin

    Hi,
SAPWL_GET_SUMMARY_STATISTIC is still used in ECC6 so there shouldn't by any problem. Can you see workload statistics in ST03N? If not then the problem is somewhere else. Is there any change that somebody from basis has changed the config (paramters stat/* in RZ11)?
    Cheers

  • Improving query preformance.

    Dear Friends,
We are using BI7.00. For one of our reports, we load data to the ODS which contains 578068 records, When the respective query is executed, it takes long time to provide the output. I do not have any formulas in the query.
Can experts provide step by step solution to improve the query performance so that the output is fast.
    Regards,
    M.M

Performance tuning on an ODS is not as easy as on InfoCubes because you don't have aggregates. If you already have defined indexes check if the indexes are used in your queries. You can either check in in the RSRT when you do Execute & Debug and set a breakpoint at Show SQL-Statement and Show Execution Plan or trace your ODS with ST01. You should also check the database statistics if you haven't done so.
If these tips are not enough because your ODS is quite huge, create an InfoCube with the identical InfoObjects. With automatic delta upload activated in the ODS you can always keep an exact copy of the ODS data in your cube and build your reports on the cube with aggregates and all other performance tools you need.
There is a great presentation on performance on the service marketplace (service.sap.com/bw, register with your OSS-user, then click on performance. In the upper part there is a PDF called performance workshop that really goes into details.
    557870: FAQ: BW Query Performance,
572661: OLAP:Performance problem with hierarchies (if you got its)
402469: Additional indexes on Master Data Tables
Note 444287 'Checking the index storage quality'
and to these tools: BW Statistics, BW Workload Analysis in ST03N (Use Export Mode!) and the content of Table RSDDSTAT or tx RSRT and RSRTRACE for a single query !

  • ST03N ABAP dump while accessing BI Workload

    Hello,
I'm getting ABAP dump "Exception condition "X_MESSAGE" raised." while I. trying to access BI Workload part of transaction ST03 or ST03N."
I tried to debug ti and it seems that Function Module (RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ) which is reading multi provider 0TCT_MC01 is returning error 8 = INHERITED_ERROR, Error in Called Routine. There is a LOOP in this code for fetching data out of underlying cube and it seems; that system is not able to determine end of data. Even in last iteration of LOOP variable L_END_OF_DATA is not set to X.
Might be that my virtual cube 0TCT_VC01 of which Mprov is comprised is not consisted? I already went through note 934848 - Collective note: (FAQ) BI Administration Cockpit - step no 5: "Activate direct access for virtual providers.
Please assign source system for all the virtual providers (0TCT_VC*)." Cube 0TCT_VC01 has source system assigned.
    PS: I'm on BW 7.0 SP17, SAP_BASIS and ABAP SP15.
    -update 29/08/2010-
I tried to retransport cube 0TCT_VC01 but dump still persist. There is a strange error in TA RSRV while I try to test its "Consistency of the Time Dimension for an InfoCube". Error is: Unknown, fatal error when creating instance in test "CL_RSRV_CHK_TIM_DIM" Message no. RSRV313
Can it be that it has something to do with dump in ST03?
    Thanks.

    - Check RSA1 Data Warehouse Workbench -> Modeling -> InfoProvider;
    - Search for InfoCube 0TCT_VC01; in the context, check "Activate
Direct Access"; Then, click on the "Source Syst.for InfoSource 3.x"
tab, you have to activate the direct access by marking the source
      system (system name) and save.
Please also refer to SAP Note 934848(action 5).
As you may know, ST03N BI workload retrieves data of frontend and OLAP
statistics largely from MultiProvider 0TCT_MC01, which consists of two
InfoProviders 0TCT_C01 and 0TCT_VC01. Correct activation of BI technical
contents is a prerequisite for ST03N BI workload to behave properly.
