Bi7 Variable screen, need to show query description

i upgraded workbooks from bw 3.5 to BI 7
workbook contains 5 queries in 5 different worksheets
now when i refresh the query, the variable screen shows like this
dp_1 ztst_1
dp_2 ztst_2
dp_3 ztst_3
,,,,,,,,, etc.,
dp_1,2,3 are for dataprovider 1,2,3
ztst_1,2,3 are queries technical name.
i dont want this
for all users i want them to see QUERY DESCRIPTION next to dp_1,2,3
there is no way i can rename dp_1,2,3 if i upgrade a workbook
HOW TO DO THIS?
not a good solution, i already tried it.....
you have to do it for all queries
At first u still see the Technical name only......
if you refresh the query again or change variable, then u notice the difference.
close the workbook or close the query this setting is change
now you reopen the query and workbook, same process to follow
what i need?
A SETTING THAT BY DEFAULT DISPLAYS QUERYS DESCRIPTION ALWAYS IN VARIABLE SCREEN FOR EVERY QUERY/WORKBOOK.
is it possible ?

Check that the variable you have made is of type customer exit.

Variable screen doesnot appear when query is executed
Hi All,
We recently upgraded the BW 3.1 to 2004s(BI 7.0).
When i am executing the query, the selection screen is not popping up.
Instead the query is executing with default selection.
I am facing problem when there are any mandatory fields.

the variable is checked 'ready for input'
it is used in a formula
actually it is appearing for some users with BI_ALL auth,
but were trying for some test users the variable screen is not appearing.
even 'change variable value' to remove any personalization is not working from test user.
and for BI_ALL users at change variable screen if we remove personilization, the following error is comming

BEx Analyzer variable screen not showing for user
Hello,
I have a BEx query that shows the variable screen to enter the query parameters when I run the query but when the user runs it, he is not given the variable screen and therefore cannot enter the variables. Both the user and myself are running the query in BEx Analyzer (Excel).
The user is new to BEx. Is there perhaps some security or role setting that needs to be changed? Something else?

Variable screen not popping up in QA: All query elements imported successfu
Hi Experts,
I transported 4 queries to QA.
The request was successfully imported.
When i open the query in QA, variable screen does not show up for any of the queries.
I double checked to make sure that the variables were collected and transported.
Any ideas what might have happened?
I have workbooks for each of the queries (1:1). The workbooks have not been transported yet (this shouldn't matter correct?)

1) Do a check on your queries in Q system and D system.
If there is difference between Q and D then it is definitely your transport request problem.
Collect them one by one in transport connection . Dont collect all4 at once. Cross check that you've collected all your variables. See that all your query elements are in the same request.

Can we show a 'Information Message' on the variable screen for 1 particular query! I have a user exit variable in the query and I believe I can use this user exit variable to show the information message on the varable screen. When we run the query, we should see the variable screen with message on top of it.Hi Rahul,
I doubt the first requirement is possible.
To have a pop-up message after we click on Print version button, please check these threads:

Can we able to change the size/font of the Bex query variable screen?. I have a requirement where lot of variables used but query variable screen is not showing up all the variables including the 'execute,cancel, check' menu buttons.

Force Variable screen with Web Templates
We are on SP7 and have made the necessary settings based on note 950463, however the variable screen only pops up the first time you click the "New Analysis" button. If you click the button again, and select a query with optional variables, the variable screen does not show up. I've tried setting the default parameters in the IMG and in the portal iview to always pass the parameter VARIABLE_SCREEN=X along with making the necessary modifications to our default web template, but none of this has worked. Has anyone else come accross this?

Below is a version of the web analyzer I created with the following changes:
1. Variable screen will always open on subsequent calls to the "New Analysis" button, even for optional variables.
2. A button for refresh. This button basically calls the variable screen. If no variables exist, then this will just refresh, but if variables do exist, this launches the variable screen and then refreshes, similar to the refresh used within the 3.x Bex Analyzer...
3. A button for "Back to Start" which takes you to the inital state of the web application.
4. A button for "Back" which will take you back one navigation state. Hope this code helps!

I'm having a query on top of 0EMPLOYEE. 0EMPLOYEE has an attribute of a business unit (which has the default BEx settings of display as text) and I have a selection option variable on top of this attribute.
Previously, on BW 3.x the variable screen used to show both the key and text, regardless of the settings in the BEx tab of the infoobject definition. in BEx Web JAVA it will only let me have the text selection. is it possible to change that without changing the default settings in the BEx tab of the infoobject definition?

Report to Report jump web queries variable screen on BW
Hello,
We would like the variable screen to always popup when the user runs a main query. We would like the variable screen to never popup when jumping from one query to another query.
We are using BW 3.5. We are using web queries, NOT Excel. Both queries are running on BW. We have set up jump query parameters in RSBBS. These jump successfully with all of the appropriate required variables passed from the from the first query to the second query. We are using the standard 0ADHOC template for all queries, including the sender and receiver queries.
With the FORCE_VARIABLE flag set to TRUE, both the sender and receiver queries popup the variable entry screen. With FORCE_VARIABLE flag set to FALSE, both sender and receiver queries do NOT popup the variable screen. We would like the FORCE_VARIABLE flag set to TRUE for the sender query and set to FALSE for the receiver query. Is this possible? How do you set the FORCE_VARIABLE flag to FALSE dynamically based on the fact that the user has just jumped to a receiver query?
Another alternative would be to build two query templates, one for sender queries and one for receiver queries. How do you switch to a different template when the user is ready to jump?
I have also been fooling with the RESET_DATA_PROVIDER command available in BW 3.5, but have not had any luck. Can this be used to accomplish my objective? How do I use it? Please remember that I am not setting specific jump targets in the web template. I would like this work generically based on settings from RSBBS.
Any other ideas to force the variable screen on the 1st query and bypass the variable screen when the user is ready to jump would be greatly appreciated.

We have two requirements that we can't get them done:
1. We are building webi report based on Bex universes and we need to show the key and description of an object in the query filter of the report. Does this have to be set in the Bex variable or in the universe?
2. filter the LOV related to a specific dimension that is used in the query filter as prompt. The idea is to show a filtered list in the promp LOV of the dimension used in the query filter of the report. Does this have to be set in the Bex query or in the universe? If it is in the Bex Query, where exactly?
Our system is the following:
- BOE XI 3.1 SP2
- SAP NW 4.0

>> you can easily achieve that by creating a variable in the BEX query - that will return as a LoV with key and description assuming you have key and description in BW for the InfoObject.

Adding description in variable screen of Bex query
Hi All,
I have restricted one variable ( let us say abc)
these variable have value P, A.
when user select this value in the variable screen (let us say 'P') then the description field also shows 'P' .
I want user to select the value as 'P' but in description field it should come as "Pending' .
Please suggest how to do that
regards1. If u want the description in the variable screen, the variable should be created on MD in which the text should maintain on this.
2. In the Multiprovider, go to that infoobject -> Provider Specific properties -> make this as key and text.
If you dont get the description, finally go to that infoobject, in Business explorer tab -> general settings - give key and text for Display.

Bookmark shows Variable Screen when Query use a Prequery

i have a Problem. I have a Query which use a Prequery. i can execute the Query on Web and save this by Bookmark. If i open the Bookmark the Variablescreen was displayed. Usually when i open a query without prequery and save the bookmark the query result was displayed.
Has anyone an Idea or solution for this problem?

Web Template with Query Views not showing Variable Screen
Hi, I have a Web Template using 3 Query Views based on a single query. The Query has 2 mandatory variables (CALMONTH and VERSION). When I execute the Web Template it does not prompt with the Variable Screen, and presents the report with the Variables that were in place when the view was saved/created. I'd like the Variables to appear.
1. Is this the correct behavior?
2. Is there any documentation that might describe this behavior.
3. Should I just copy the query and create 3 queries instead?
Note: I did a search in SDN and found lots of similar threads, but nothing exact. Also, I know about forcing the variable screen, but I thought I shouldn't have to do this.

if you dont then try to run another query and see if you get the variable screen as well. if you dont then its a bug. if you do then something is wrong in your query and its having an issue, but if you do get the screen on your query then it is a setting in your web template not in your query.
you can also try to run the query in RSRT backend ... -
Variable description not appearing in variable screen
Hi Experts,
we have created a variable which is ready for input. While executing the query, the variable description is not appearing in the variable screen, instead variable technical name is only appearing in the variable screen.
The same variable is being used in two queries. In one query, it displays the technical name and in the other query it displays the description of that variable.

Franksyeah......it is strange. As soon as the variable screen comes up, all the variables normally shown in description rather than a technical name, unless you select "Key & text" OR only "key" OR only "Text".
But, in this case this particular variable is showing in technical name, the description itself is disappearing from the variable screen.
No changes have been made to variable. The same variable displays with descriptions in other query. so difficult to analyze.
