Bigpond cable and Foxtel service outage

I am wondering if the estimated time for service to be restored is correct on the outage service page?
Sometime this morning between 1am and 7am the cable service and foxtel failed again. As this had only just happened to me back on the 3rd June I immediately checked the service outage page and found nothing. So I went through the process this morning as I did a month ago of unplugging and disconnecting my modem before calling support.
Nothing changed so I called a very helpful rep who took my details and as she also could not see any outages in my area arranged for a tech to visit my home. When the tech arrived only 4 hours after my call he said there had been a couple of calls made about my area thst morning and that it was likely a service outage somewhere in my area. He checked the line outside and found no issue so he escalated it to a service outage.
I now see that it says "some" customers in my area may be affected and the estimated time of repair is by 6pm Wed.
2 1/2 working days to restore service seems a long time to me but not knowing the complexities it may be a standard time. It wouldnt be so bad if only 4 weeks ago I hadnt been without service for a day. 3 days this time is annoying.

Hello Daryl If it's any comfort, your experience is not unusual. I too  have had similar issues over the  years.I think Telstra or NBN are doing over-due maintenance, now that the HFC (Telstra/Foxtel) cable is going to be retained by NBN Hope this helps you RegardsProfessor PhoneI'm not a Telstra employee.  I have been a mobile subscriber since 1963.If my advice has been helpful, a Kudo  "tick"    would be most appreciated. If my advice has solved your problem, please also mark it as a Solution

  • Router for cable AND DSL at the same time?

Can I get cable and DSL service and buy a router that will run both at the same time? I'm looking at the Linksys RV016, RV042 and RV082 routers; and the D-Link DI-LB604 Load Balancing Router. It looks like they'll do this but the webpages don't say that clearly. My Comcast cable service is fast (up to 6Mbps downloads) when it's working and the neighbors are asleep, but the speed drops to around 2kbps at other times. Qwest DSL is guaranteed 256Kbps.
Also, is there a wi-fi transceiver that detects and uses unused bandwidth on neighbors' Internet connections? My house picks up 7 neighbors' wi-fi transceivers. If we're all on the same cable service it wouldn't matter if I transferred bandwidth to a neighbor's service. But if some houses have DSL and some have cable, then the DSL users could get extra speed in the mornings when the cable is fast. The cable users would get extra speed in the evening when cable is slower than DSL. Everybody wins.

    no problems.
There is a priority order when multiple networking interfaces are available.
Ethernet is higher than Airport in the order.
If both ethernet and Airport interfaces are connected to the network, then ethernet becomes the primary networking interface.
If nothing is plugged into the ethernet port, then Airport will get control.

  • Service outages and slow speeds

Why have I been having  service outages and slow speeds for the last several weeks. I am in south central PA. (Somerset County)
Why do I have to pay Verizon for service that I do not get?

#1 Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Remove that line. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
#2 Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem: What is the brand and model of that RJ-45 WAN port router?
#3 Even If you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from your modem and you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem: What is the brand and model of that RJ-45 WAN port router?

It seems to me that the connection port is faulty.

    Error 1604:
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.

  • Customer Service Outage on 4/16/2012

On 4/16/2012 Adobe experienced a customer service outage in one of our data centers. This CSO occured at around 10:30 PM Pacific time and was the result of a hardware failure in a switch. This outage impacted many aspects of DPS from publishing, notification and delivery of content to customer devices. The faulty hardware was bypassed and operation were resumed approximately 90 minutes later. Over the course of this morning we've experienced some lengthy times for queued operations like publishing and notifications. Monitors show the systems are mostly back to normal now but we are monitoring queues in case of backups.
Please respond to this post if you are currently experiencing issues with any part of the DPS workflow. Particularly areas that you work with regularly, if they now appear to be non performant or fail.

I still cannot download updates (or anything) on any of our iPads using the Adobe Content viewer.
When it finally started to download an update it took a half hour to download 1.9MB then hung-up then said "cannot connect to server"
I've been trying all morning with similar results.
On the most recent attempt, it took about 15 minutes to download 2.9MB then failed.
Sometimes it says cannot connect to server.
Last time it totally crashed the Content Viewer.
    When will this be fixed?

  • Planning and Shared Services security disconnect.

    Hi,
We have an intermittent problem. We are running 9.3.1 of Planning, Essbase, and Shared Services, etc. We have 6 planning applications on the same server. We use oracle as the database. The problem is at some point in time Planning stops getting updates made in Shared Services. When it happens you can go into the planning application, view the security on any object, and click "Add Access". The "Users and Groups" select box get's populated with "<None Available>". If you bounce the planning service and come back in the "Users and Groups" is populated as expected. It also dosen't affect all of the application or the same applications.
We have an admin group that makes security updates. Mainly just adding users to native groups. When things are working the changes/additions flow through to the planning tables. (HSP_USERSINGROUP,HSP_OBJECT). We gave this group a query to run that shows the access a specific user has in planning. If a user is added to a group in SS they then run the query to make sure the access is granted in planning. When the query doesn't bring back the information they think should be there we know we have the issue and start scheduling an outage to bounce planning.
Anyone else seen this behavior and is there another way to fix this besides bouncing planning?
    Thanks for any responses.
    Keith

I appreciate your response.  To address your points about ways to report outages, we are in Reston and had no cell phone or FiOS phone service that day, and I don't know where any other phones are near us that I could use.  I don't know how to use twitter or Facebook to report problems, but now that you mention those as possibilities I could figure that out.
My main point wasn't really that specific incident, however.  That incident showed me that Verizon could provide a better system for handling general outages.  What people want in cases like this is information; most of us understand that sometimes there will be large outages. It helps us to know that you know about the outage, and it also would help to have an idea what is being done about it.
Having that information online, with each subscriber able to add their outage information, would go a long way towards addressing this.  You would then have a logical place to report on your efforts to repair outages.  All of this could require less time for your support staff since this reporting system could be mostly automated.  It would also help, then, when one person has a problem to see if others also have a problem (OK, just add my ino to the website and wait) or if they're the only one (OK, contact support.)

  • 5 months 10 engineers, 2 cables and still no fix

I’ll try and keep this short, end of May our line developed intermittent noise and broadband loss problem, worse when it rains.
June and July were spent with BT and our ISP trying to blame each other with us in the middle getting the hassle.
Eventually BT seemed to accept it being a line fault and August and September has been spent trying to tie this down. Last but one visit our drive and path was dug up to lay a new cable. 10th engineer arrived yesterday fitted new cable. As usual the fault was not there when he left. Then it started raining 10 minutes after he left, now it’s worse than ever.
We have had a next to useless phone and very little internet access for 5 months which we are paying for.
We have had to stay in for 12 days for engineers visits, 2 of which never turned up.
I have lost count of the hours spent on the phone (when it works) trying to resolve this issue.
And still we have the fault
All this has come at a time when we really need reliable communications due to family matters and BT have persistently let us down so much so that we have both bought Smart Phones for Internet access and reliable communications. I have also bought a Mobile internet dongle for PC internet access. Therefore we are now paying for our communications twice.
So could someone at BT please tell me what are the benefits for me continuing with my unreliable BT landline?
Personally I cannot see any benefits but only more hassle, expense for a poor service and more time off waiting for engineers who may or may not turn up.

Thanks for the reply Stephanie I shall email our details as requested
Just to put you in the picture the 11th engineer came out to have a go, it looks like it may be sorted.
The fault was not the cables which previous engineers had renewed (the fault came back even with the new cables). The fault was actually the ducts through which the cables ran were flooding, hence the fault getting worse when it rained, but my telling BT engineers and customer support that we have had this problem 2 years ago (we were had about 5 weeks of hassle then) was ignored.
Anyway, after the 11th engineer visit fixed OUR fault he left the nextdoor neighbours disconnected. They are in their 80s and need the phone for contact with their family etc. So even though our phone fault was sorted I still found myslef having to go through the pain of the bt fault reporting procedure for the nextdoor neighbours.
OBTW It took a week for a BT engineer to come round and fix the neighbours phone which a BT engineer had cut off in teh 1st place.
    What a debacle!
I now still have to decide if I am to cancel our contract with BT because over the past few years we have been cut off or had faults on our line on average of every two years. So every two years we have all this hassle, time expense and stress.
Yes stress, it may come as a surprise to the powers that be at BT that the fault reporting and repair services leaves alot to be desired and the amount of time and frustration we customers have to face trying to get a service that we are paying for is very stressful especially when BT protract the fault over 5 months.
Things have improved a little from 2 years ago however, the new priority fault team (I dont know the full title) who get involved after 4 fault reports have been helpful (Cath especially) but even with their help it has still taken 5 months.

  • How to connect to internet with out cable or telephone service

I presently have internet connection through AT&T, which requires a land line phone.
I would like to have internet connection and cell phone usage without cable or phone service.
Is there a device; and or a hook-up that will allow wireless internet connection??

The way I understand it is you can have a "dry" line to the internet where you can have DSL through AT & T without having phone service using the same line. I have had that in the past. I also have had cable internet service provided without having any cable TV service. It would be that or you would probably have to sign up for a mobile broadband card through one of the cell phone companies. Those you would pay somewhere between 50-75 bucks per month and would most likely get a device that plugs into a USB port. Unless you really like portability I would probably look for the dry DSL line or just get internet and no TV through the cable company.......

  • Tool Box and Electric Power Outage

I am using OSX.4.11 on a 1.25 GHz Power PC G4 and having problems with CS2 (Educator version).
I hired electricians to do some work Thursday. They shut off the electric, without warning...
iow, I didn't have an opportunity to turn off my computer. When I returned to my office,
the computer restarted and seemed to be OK.
I checked my email, and that was also malfunctioning. (However, there had been problems with my Comcast cable service, (email) and phone service, since Monday). Comcast and ATT were working on that. Phone/fax service was restored Thursday and Comcast seems to be OK as of Friday.
When I tried to use my Creative Suite (CS2) programs, I discovered that the tool palettes used to work on any of my documents, old or new, in Photoshop and Illustrator in Creative Suite are malfunctioning. The toolbox is nowhere to be found, totally not appearing, on the monitor with Illustrator; and, while the toolbox is visible in PS, I can't use the toolbox functions at all... e.g. the type tool types only straight lines. I can't use the keyboard key commands for toolbox either. I don't know if the other CS programs are also damaged. I had PS and AI open when the system crashed.
I closed all programs and shut down everything, including the monitors and restarted. No improvement. I guessed that the software is damaged., and reinstalled all of the Creative Suite.
Still no toolbox in AI or function in PS.
Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?
    Thank you
    Linda

No that is not what I am saying you will not lose your applications or internet connections if you trash the preferences that is sound advice you should first try that method.
Make certain you trash the Adobe Illustrator Settings Folder in your user's preferences folder.
Also in this case in the same user's preferences folder there is a file called com.adobe.illustrator.plist trash that as well.
Restaring the computer is a good idea after doing that but not necessary. BTW make certain you first quit Adobe Illustrator before trashing the preferences.
The archival reinstall of your system might be useful if this does not work and if a reinstall of Illustrator does not work, each procedure follows the other and you only go to the next procedure if the previous fails, I worded my last post a little strangely, I apologize for the confusion.

  • Broadband and Customer Service in India

    Hi,
It's time to vent my frustration at BT customer Service.
My broadband connection was fine until sometime during the night on 28th November, so about 36 to 48 hours ago.
I logged a fault call with the help desk (In India) and they did all the usual tests they go through but did not solve the problem. They then said that they would call back in 24 hours to see there may be a network problem they were not aware of which might be resolved during that time.
Well they did call back. I told them problem was still ongoing. So we went through all the tests again and I was then told that there is a 'Major Service Outage' in my area and that the problem is being worked on and should be resolved by 7pm.
Once I got off the phone I checked the status of my reported fault on BT's website only to discover that the original call had been closed and a new one opened. Seems a bit strange.
I took a trip to my exchange which is only round the corner from where I live to find it all locked up and no one there.
I am beginning to feel I am just being fobbed off by BT. All this please wait 24 hours is total rubbish in my opinion. What happens in 24 hours? Do they call back and we have to start all over again? I guess by closing the first call and opening another means they have reset the clock at their end and it looks like they are fixing faults when infarct they are not.
Why on earth do I have to call a helpdesk halfway round the world in India and speak to someone who has a strong accent I can't understand and they can't understand me. Very irritating. BT Help desks should be UK based...Period.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A NUMBER FOR BT WHERE I CAN SPEAK TO SOMONE ABOUT A FAULTY BROADBAND CONNECTION WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND IS BASED IN THE UK?
If you are wondering how I am able to post this message without a broadband connection its being done via wifi to my mobile phone.
    Thanks for any assistance.

Hi, Unfortunatley because my BT Broadband is not working I can not access that link.
When I try I get this message:
Sorry - You must be connected to BT Broadband or the BT network to use this
    website.
This is a private website for the benefit of BT Broadband customers
    who use the
    BT Customer Support
    Community
website, and is not connected with BT.
    If you are
visiting this site from a BT Broadband or BT Corporate connection, and are
    getting this message,
then please contact me via the BT Community forum, and tell me the date and time of your attempt.
    Thanks
    Keith Beddoe
All I really want is an answer to the question highlighted in red in my origonal post. Can anyone help me please?
    Thanks

  • Is there a service outage currently in Silver City, NM 88061?

I realize this is a very temporary question here, but is there a support person who can tell me if that's the case?  I'm having a frustrating time finding an easy way of getting that information, going on a couple hours now.  (There should be a real-time service/outage map that customers can click on and immediately see the problem areas -- just a suggestion.  "Troubleshooting" section of the site doesn't help at all.)  I just need to know if this is my phone or a general service issue.

While I cannot answer your question, I can say that we ALL would like to see some kind of real-time service map, pinpointing outages.  The suggestion has been made, but it hasn't happened for whatever reason or reasons.  I know if my power goes out, I can call to report it, and be told if it's "just me" or how widespread it is, and when service is expected to be restored.
It would be nice to have the same thing for cell service.

  • Is Tiger compatible with Syst 9 for Bigpond Cable!?

Hi I need Syst 9 running in the background for my bigpond cable apparently!? I read somewhere that Tiger is not compatible?! Is this true?

    Cec,
You stated/asked...Hi I need Syst 9 running in the background for my bigpond cable apparently!?BigPond makes no such claims on What are the Cable system requirements?
According to that page OS 9 is not, nor would I expect it to be a requirement for a cable connection.
By the way, Tiger does support OS 9, which is known as Classic. Mac OS X provides a compatibility layer called Classic that runs a complete Mac OS 9 installation within OS X for applications and hardware that require OS 9.
I have lost track of which computers can start (Dual Boot) using classic, your machine may or may not be able to start up in Classic.
