5 months 10 engineers, 2 cables and still no fix

I’ll try and keep this short, end of May our line developed intermittent noise and broadband loss problem, worse when it rains.
June and July were spent with BT and our ISP trying to blame each other with us in the middle getting the hassle.
Eventually BT seemed to accept it being a line fault and August and September has been spent trying to tie this down. Last but one visit our drive and path was dug up to lay a new cable. 10th engineer arrived yesterday fitted new cable. As usual the fault was not there when he left. Then it started raining 10 minutes after he left, now it’s worse than ever.
We have had a next to useless phone and very little internet access for 5 months which we are paying for.
We have had to stay in for 12 days for engineers visits, 2 of which never turned up.
I have lost count of the hours spent on the phone (when it works) trying to resolve this issue.
And still we have the fault
All this has come at a time when we really need reliable communications due to family matters and BT have persistently let us down so much so that we have both bought Smart Phones for Internet access and reliable communications. I have also bought a Mobile internet dongle for PC internet access. Therefore we are now paying for our communications twice.
So could someone at BT please tell me what are the benefits for me continuing with my unreliable BT landline?
Personally I cannot see any benefits but only more hassle, expense for a poor service and more time off waiting for engineers who may or may not turn up.

Thanks for the reply Stephanie I shall email our details as requested
Just to put you in the picture the 11th engineer came out to have a go, it looks like it may be sorted.
The fault was not the cables which previous engineers had renewed (the fault came back even with the new cables). The fault was actually the ducts through which the cables ran were flooding, hence the fault getting worse when it rained, but my telling BT engineers and customer support that we have had this problem 2 years ago (we were had about 5 weeks of hassle then) was ignored.
Anyway, after the 11th engineer visit fixed OUR fault he left the nextdoor neighbours disconnected. They are in their 80s and need the phone for contact with their family etc. So even though our phone fault was sorted I still found myslef having to go through the pain of the bt fault reporting procedure for the nextdoor neighbours.
OBTW It took a week for a BT engineer to come round and fix the neighbours phone which a BT engineer had cut off in teh 1st place.
What a debacle!
I now still have to decide if I am to cancel our contract with BT because over the past few years we have been cut off or had faults on our line on average of every two years. So every two years we have all this hassle, time expense and stress.
Yes stress, it may come as a surprise to the powers that be at BT that the fault reporting and repair services leaves alot to be desired and the amount of time and frustration we customers have to face trying to get a service that we are paying for is very stressful especially when BT protract the fault over 5 months.
Things have improved a little from 2 years ago however, the new priority fault team (I dont know the full title) who get involved after 4 fault reports have been helpful (Cath especially) but even with their help it has still taken 5 months.

  • New 13" Macbook Pro trying to connect to a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 as second monitor. I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. The Macbook does not sense the second monitor (TV). Help?!

I've been a Mac since 2008, so I know my way around the system pretty well. This issue, however, has me stumped. I had an iMac until now and only now am I experiencing some difficulty with my new MacBook Pro. The model I have is the newest 13" Macbook Pro model and I'm trying to connect a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 42" HDTV as a second monitor via the Thunderbolt port.
It worked the first two times and hasn't worked since, after 10-15 attempts with different configurations, turning things on n off, restarting the mac, unplugging the cables, adapters, TV, resetting the P RAM, etc... I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. No matter what I do, the Macbook does not sense the TV as a second monitor anymore.
I took the MacBook Pro to the Apple Store, and their "genius" there had it working fine with a DVI connection to a regular monitor. The Panasonic TV I have has HDMI connections and one VGA connection which does not support HD, but no DVI option. I want an HD connection to mirror or extend my MacBook Pro screen. At the Apple Store, they didn't have a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so he could not try that out for me.
Anyone else have this configuration or another similar one with a Panasonic HDTV?
    Ideas? Suggestions? Anything?! Help!!
P.S. I'm running Mountain Lion, if that wasn't already obvious. Everything is up to date in my App Store as well.
    Thanks!

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Can i unplug time capsule from the ethernet cable and still use it??

can i unplug time capsule from the ethernet cable and still use it??

I have tried to extend that wireless line but as soon as i remove the LAN cable i have no internet connection anymore. So basically, does the TC get the signal wireless from the router??
The Time Capsule can wirelessly extend a wireless signal....but only if it is being provided by another Apple AirPort wireless router.
If the "main" rotuer there is not an Apple AirPort router,  you will need to connect to the network using a wired Ethernet connection.

  • TS4429 9 months 6 replacements and still the no service problem. Only a restart will bring the service back.I have tried all the suggestion to fix this but it is still happening. Please Help

I have had 6 replacement Iphone 4s and still my issue has not been resolved. What more must I do to have a telephone that can receive phone calls without me having to check it every 20 mins to make sure I have network service. Renewing the simcard has also not worked.

I was thinking that Kabel Deutschland might be the problem but my wife has a Iphone 3GS on the same network and she never has the no service problem. Also when I said I have had 6 replacements yes they all had at one time or another this issue with no service but they had other issues like not switching off or bright spots on the screen etc etc. Also the sim card has been replaced twice

  • Lots of engineer visits/changes and still not fixe...

I have had 3 visits by engineers now and they have done a few things but my broadband is still unstable...
My adsl has been stable for over two years with 2mb+ at all times and about 2 weeks ago this all changed.
Now I see hundreds of thousands of CRC errors on the down (even when I am not using it) at random times of the day. This happens pretty much every 12-24 hours but never at a consistant time of day.
The internet becomes unusable when this starts happening and can take many hours to recover, it does however recover eventually.
The engineers have done this so far:
Replaced my router and put a new filter on
Checked the line many times when they come, no errors
Moved me onto another line, speed improved but errors came back
Moved my equipment over in the exchange
Being an intermittent problem I understand it is hard to find and the engineers have ruled out quite a lot.
I doubt it is anything in my house as there is nothing new going on.
There are no useful stats to show at the moment, as I said all that happens is the CRC errors will start and go up in their thousands per second. I may add that when this starts happening the line speed fluctuats from 800k-2mb down but it is unstable.
All the obvious things my side have been ruled out, many routers tried, many filters, many cables, no difference.
I hope somebody has some clue about this because my internet is pretty useless at the moment and I need it because I work from home sometimes (I am a web developer).
On a side note they said our exchange is going fibre optic early next year, would you know if this would fix the problem or not? I know that the copper wire will still be used and this is most likely the problem.
I am contacting virgin to get cable as we speak because I doubt this problem is going to solved soon, if ever and I need the internet badly.
    Cheers for any advice,
    Mark

Well to be honest, you're on a long line and the attenuation difference, isn't anything of major concern, on a line as long as yours any little variation in temperature or environmental factor can alter the attenuation.
Here are some helpful (I actually did find them helpful!) tips from BT: http://bit.ly/mSl9SB
As standard, the bell wire should be taken out of any master or extension socket as this can reduce the amount of interference your broadband can pick up and sometimes fixes the problem, see how to remove it here http://bit.ly/qc3bZ4
There may also be some other stuff you wanna check out like what affects your broadband inside your home: http://bit.ly/ukwBFb
Also try a tidy up of your cable as per this users (RogerB) post : http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217

  • Mac 10.5.8 just bought usb cable and still won't work.

I bought HP Envy.  Got home and learned I needed to buy new software.  Dissapointed did not come with USB cable.  Bought cable.  Still is not working.  It asks which driver and Envy 5530 is not available.   But there are lots of other drivers.  Is there another that will work?

The printer requires 10.6 Snow Leopard.
You can return it and try to find a printer that is supported on your 10.5.8 Mac.

  • 1 month for repairing and still waiting !!!!

This is my real night mare and Nokia Thailand can do nothing !!!!!
Already 1 month and still dont know when it will be last. There is no solution for me accept waiting, and yes Im doing. Can anyone help me on this?? Im dont want to wait anymore!!!!
    BR
    Great

hi mate, this is between you and the Nokia Care point, as they are run independently of Nokia. if they are being less than helpful, you can contact Nokia Thailand directly by clicking the Nokia Support link at the bottom of this page.
as for the status of your repair, it may be an issue of the phone having more serious damage, and also the fact that many businesses close down over Christmas and the New Year, so you do need to take this in account.

  • Lightroom 4.0 - Two Months and still NO FIX!

It has been over two months since the release of LR 4.0. From the start there were problems. The main issue is performance.  See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/971581?start=0&tstart=0  Over a month ago the second RC was released to address many of the issues. Still complaints contuned. The offical ADOBE blog has since been very quiet on fixes or the continued issues.http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/  What a black eye for ADOBE. I have held off updating my photoshop because I no longer trust this company to stand behind thier product.

The latest RC expires at the end of June.  History shows they generally release the final on the order of a month before expiration.  Therefore, based on history, it shouldn't be too long before either 4.1 final or another RC is released.  Further, it's not like they've all been on vacation all this time.  They've been working on the application so hopefully the final will have fewer bugs than either RC.

  • 6weeks and counting and still no fix in sight for ...

Im sorry but i 1st have to say BT should be ashamed of themselves Im currently still having a slow BB speed since 4th January 2011.
Ive had 3 engineers called 2 the house and numerous so called network engineers sent to check exchange equipment and the copper wiring.
before this all happened my BB speed would of been between 5.5meg to 6.5meg with a sync rate of around 7-7.5meg all well and good. then on the 4th jan early in the morning my router restarted and stayed off for numerous hours when it finally did reconnect it connected with speed of 0.2meg and sync rate of 0.5meg - Unacceptable!  I have been as low as dial up speeds on some of these weeks.
Im not gonna bore forum members with the backwards and forewards phonecalls to BT india and numerous engineer calls.
Up to the current date ive been told that errors found on the line have been corrected and the exchange equipment is fine, my junction box is fine and my house cabling is fine. So why the **bleep** is my speed still rubbish!! Currently after a engineer call to the exchange on tuesday they increased my profile and sync rate but it hasnt changed my actuall speed   im currently at 867kbps. One thing I have noticed and need verification on is should i not have a outpower power value for my downstream  in the hub screen? stats of hub below:-

  • Can i send in my charing cable and get it fixed with my warrenty?

I got my iphone last year and the cable was fine but it started to crumble up wher you plug it into your phone. If you pull the crumble down it has a small hole and if you touch or move it the charger will not work so i have to unplug it and replug it in. Just wondering if i can get to apple to fix it i'm still under warrenty.

Yes, the included accessories' warranty is associated with the iPhone.

  • My alerts - itunes 10.6.3 and still not fixed?

I've seen past discussions of the My Alerts issues and it still looks like no one has fixed this. In short - My Alerts is useless. It has pages of artists I don't want and rarely shows artists on my "alerts" check list. The email is always a mixed bag as well.
Between a badly handled My Alerts and a horribly redesigned Just Added, I feel Apple does not want me to easily find new music. It's way past time for a better alternative. Even Amazon's recommendations does a better job of weeding out what I don't like.

The same way as it didn't work before. When i delete an artwork, or change an artwork for another, the changes aren't made in the cloud. So when I download the same song with another computer, the song still has the old artwork.
edit: I just realized, that I'm not in the "iTunec Match" forum, sorry. I will post in the apropriate forum from now on...

  • Is there a fix yet for Firefox so it can play videos on websites with "Hotlink Protection"? It's been 9 years now and still no fix.

How come Firefox still hasn't come up with a fix for it to be able to play videos from websites that have "Hotlink Protection"? The error "Video not found" always comes up. This has been like this for almost 8 or 9 years now. (I'm probaby off by a year or two). Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc... all have no problem whatsoever and can play the videos easily.

Applecare on the phone is torturous, I spent an hour getting redirected back and forth between 3 different departments each saying "This isn't my area, you need to talk X department" or "why did they send you back to me?" Then you get disconnected.
The nearest apple store is about 2 hours away. If I'm near it again, I'll stop by. I was just hoping either the problem was patched or someone online knew how to fix this infamous problem yet.

  • Chino Hills, CA - FIOS is very slow - started 2 weeks ago and still not fixed.

In Chino Hills, CA, FIOS used to be excellent. For the past 2 weeks it has been a dog. It's like dial-up. Just look at my trace route below. Do you think that's acceptable? I don't know what ..... verizon-gni.net is but seems to be the culprit. After that ... ALTER.NET is also slow.  It's like going back to the stone age for me.  Can anyone who knows what's going on pls help. i contacted FIOS support, opened a ticket.  I've been asked to reset my router, even bypass the router and connect my PC directly to the wall outlet and I still get the same problem. My friend in the same city a few miles away has the EXACT same problem so it's my router nor her router. Something is terribly wrong but I can't get straight answers from FIOS tech. My connection is like my TimeWarner cable connection before - Slow and unpredictable. So much for fiber optic... I think i actually have twisted pair dial-up the way this is going!!!

  • Six Month Fault Time and Still Counting

Been advised to post here by BT retention department as someone may take up my complaint.
Our local exchange Wickersley was upgraded last July(2011) since then our BB has been slow or not usable. Fault has been reported approx 8 times, engineer finally visited last December, poor pairs was his outcome, pairs swapped and exchange port reset. Still poor service, que many calls to India and attempts to sort out the problem remotely, I knew this was a waste of time as I am a telecomm installer of over 30 years experience, including exchanges, fibre broadband and multi pair cable. Finally achieved a visit by a second engineer this last week who to his credit spent many hours checking out all the faulty pairs and identified the fault to the underground cable to the house. This was supposed to be replaced this Saturday, no show by any one. Que more calls to India and UK, no managers phone number available to take ownership of this fault, please can someone just SORT THIS OUT AND TAKE OWNERSHIP. Who do I turn to next? Ofcom?

One of the UK Based BT Care Team should be able to help. Please contact them using this form.
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
They usually take ownership, until the fault is cleared. They should be able to look at the current status of the fault.

  • Review after 1 Month: Usability, Performance, and still...Streaming Issues...

After cruising around this board and others, I’m both very pleased with my Droid X and disappointed at the same time.  I have an iPhone and a Droid X because I own a company that develops software for both platforms.  Note that I have not “rooted” my phone.
I’m pleased that there are lots of apps and that Verizon has done a good job of putting in some stock apps that are useful (docking, clocks, widgets).
What I’m displeased with is performance and usability.  Here are my chief concerns:
There are times that the screen delay in contacts is five seconds.  I have about 650 contacts.
After having a Blackberry for years, I miss not being able to just start typing a phone number and bring up a list of likely names.
The iPhone has search integrated at the top of the screen.  It saves one keystroke and one screen refresh.
Dialing an existing number requires two or three more steps than most phones.  Short cuts still require two steps.  The people short cuts are not very manageable.
I would like to reassign the search button from the home screen to search my contacts.  I’m not quite into searching the web from the home screen.  It’s my contacts I need.
I de-installed literally everything that keeps running that I know I don’t need or I do frequent force stops (like Facebook and Skype).  Even though I’m on a data plan, I don’t want to use bandwidth  and I don’t want these apps tracking my entire existence.
I too agree with everyone’s sentiments that not being able to de-install products like Amazon, Skype, etc are not in keeping with the concept of “Open” platform.  Let the user decide.  Don’t let your marketing agenda get in the way of people being happy with their products.
I have no desire to purchase an app that fixes a problem...ala short cuts, screen savers, etc.
I truly wish Verizon would fix streaming soon.  I built an app that runs on every other Android 2.2 device except the Droids.  Do you realize how frustrating it is to know the phone you own won’t run the apps you built?  LOL!
Best Wishes – I hope this phones do well!!!

No disrespect but it seems you might want to get more familiar with your device because most of the things you reported as a issue the phone does now without issues.

You can do this, just open Phone Dialer on contacts tab and then press menu button for 3 seconds and keyboard shows and all you have to do is type name.
The iPhone has search integrated at the top of the screen.  It saves one keystroke and one screen refresh.
Android has easier way, just press search button 3 Second (Far Right) and say "Call NAME" and phone dials or shows contact info.

When searching for number all you have to do in press green phone icon to instant call..

The voice command app will open contact by just press search button for 3 second and say name to search contacts.

What problem are you having with streaming? I use iHeartRadio for streaming radio stations from many citys without issues.
