Birthdays not showing in Ical

Am a recent convert to Mac. Brilliant decision! Am trying to display birthdays in ical using address book. I've ticked the display in preferences. In ical the read only birthday calendar shows in the left hand panel, but the actual birthdays don't appear anywhere. Anyonw know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

Try quitting iCal and reopen it. Then see if they appear.
Also, turn off all your other calendars except birthday, and click on the birthday category, then click the SHOW SEARCH RESULTS button on the lower right frame. See if the list that pops up contain any birthdays from your address book.
Hope that helps.

  • Japanese Birthdays not showing in iCal

    Hi all -
I have moved all of my contacts into Address Book, and the birthdays helpfully show up in iCal. That is except for my Japanese friends whose names I have entered into Address Book with Japanese characters. Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks.

  • Mobileme cals not showing in ical

i have synced all my stuff with mobileme and it is working mobileme to iphone. however, my calendars are not showing in ical. i thought that the mobileme cals would be listed in ical but its not happening. i have tried many times to resync etc but cannot get them to show in ical.

Have you upgraded to the new MobilMe calendar? If not you should have as the old syncing method will be turned off tomorrow. Settings in System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync are no longer relevant to the calendar.
For details on upgrading please see this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3032657
And what is your operating System? If you are on Leopard there is an additional process to be carried out after you've upgraded - please see:

  • Birthdays not showing up in iPhone

I have birthdays entered in Address Book on my G4, and showing in iCal as a subscription (option to show birthdays is checked).
When I sync my iPhone the Birthdays calendar shows up on my iPhone but none if its contents.
How do I get this fixed?
    Thanks!

Thanks but I'm not using MobileMe. This morning I noticed that at least some birthdays are there. It may only be one that isn't showing up. I have to investigate more.

  • Reminders not showing in ical 7.0

My reminders are not showing up in iCal 7.0 on my new Macbook Air, and in the View header nav, Reminders are not in the list as an option to display.  I can't access my reminders.  Please help.  Thanks.

    matnit,
Reminders were removed from the Mavericks Calendar application. You will find a stand alone Reminders application in the Applications Folder.

  • Events not showing in iCal, but do on my iTouch Calendar

I am syncing my iCal 3.0.7 with GoogleCalendar using Calgoo connect 2.1.3. It uploads new events to my gCal, but if I create new events in gCal, they won't show up on iCal. I thought this was a Calgoo problem, but when I sync my iTouch with my computer, the invisible events will become visible on the iTouch, but still invisible on iCal.
Any ideas? Is there a setting on iCal to make certain events within a calendar invisible that I'm missing? All the "hide to do" options in iCal preferences are unchecked.

I found this solution in another discussion. It's from this website: http://iphonewriter.blogspot.co.nz/2008/05/how-to-fixing-ical-iphone-sync-issues .html)
"You'll know the syncing issue when you see it, because the new events you enter into the Calendar on your Apple iPhone will not appear in iCal. Said another way, you'll enter a new event into your iPhone, use iTunes to sync with your Mac (or MacBook in our case) and the new event on your iPhone will not show up in iCal. Keep trying, synch as you might, iCal and the Apple iPhone just won't get along.
Here's the down and dirty fix:
Open iCal and backup or export your entries. Make a note of the fie name and location, you're going to need them in a minute. Once your backup/export is completed, close the iCal application.
Open Finder and remove everything inside the "Username/Library/Calendars" folder. For instance, if your username is "Joe", then move everything inside the "Joe/Library/Calendars" folder.
Open the iSync application. It's located in the "/Applications/" folder. Once iSync is opened, go into the iSync Preferences (iSync -> Preferences) and push/click the "Reset Sync History" button. Then, close the iSync application.
Re-Open the iCal application and Restore your calendar. When prompted, use your notes from Step #1 to select the file your created earlier.
At this point all my appointments were showing up properly in iCal, and did not disappear after syncing again with the iPhone.

  • Events not showing in iCal after sync with iPhone

A whole week of appointments don't show up in iCal after syncing with my iPhone - all the appointments are on my iPhone but they won't copy over.
Funnily enough, the week that is not showing up is changing every Monday...
    Anyone seen this before?

  • Calendar event created on iphone not showing in ical.

I have a 4S and when I create a calendar event in ical, it does not show up in my ical ofn my Macbook Pro.
I have check sync calendars in iTunes and have selected to display all calendars in my Macbook's iCal.
Is ther some thing I am overlooking, or a step I may be forgetting?
    Thanks

After a trip to the genius bar, I found how to solve this problem, at least for me:
    0) Plug in iPhone
    1) Start iCal
    2) Export all calendars (File -> Export)
    3) Quit iCal
    4) Delete all calendars from ~/Library/Calendars
    5) Start iCal
    6) Import all exported calendars
    7) Start iTunes, configure syncing to overwrite calendars on phone
    8) Sync iPhone

  • Calendar events not showing in ical

when i input an event or an invoice out of quickbooks as an all day event it puts the from: date later than the to: date. and does not show up in the calendar until i go in every time and change it to match or make the from date earlier than the to date.

This is a schema issue with QuickBooks, and you'll have to continue to update these items by hand until the issues is addressed by the Intuit programming team. I cannot believe that they are not already aware of it, but you should report it anyway.
On its face, it is ridiculous for them to create an event with an end point value which occurs prior to the start point value. All day events cannot end before they start! Actually, no event can end before it starts…
By definition, an all day event in iCal is one which starts on a particular date at 12:00:00 +0000 and ends at 12:00:00 +0000 on the next day. For example, an all day event on March 15, 2006 is represented in the truth [when pushed from iCal] as:
    2006-07-15 12:00:00 +0000
    2006-07-16 12:00:00 +0000
NOTE: I didn't pick those representations and that's not the way I would have chosen to do it, but it is what the iCal programming team has done.
As a user, you don't see the time values, and the date representation in the inspector panel is shown [for the above example] as:
    07/15/06
    07/15/06
Again, an all day event cannot end before it starts. So the data provided by the Intuit application is invalid: in effect, the event they have defined does not exist.

  • Accepted invitations not showing in iCal, but do show in gCal

I use Apple Mail & iCal as front-ends to Google Apps mail (gMail) & calendar (gCal). I am using the CalDAV interface to gCal. I have iCal set up to sync 1) with my gCal and 2) with 2 other gCals, of business associate, via iCal delegates. Both Mail and iCal are setup so that event (meeting) invitations receive via email and then accepted at placed into the iCal calendar that syncs with "my" gCal.
The problem is that while all of the accepted invites show up as scheduled events in gCal (as viewed via the Google web interface) some these invites/ event do not show up in iCal. This is strange on two counts. First, it must be iCal that is "telling" gCal about the new events, via sync. Second, subsequent syncs between iCal and gCal still don't bring visibility to the event is iCal.
Thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.

There are more than one Applications folders. At the root level of your system is an Applications folder for all users, where most installations go. Every user, including you, also has a separat Applications folder.
    Check all of them.

  • All Day Events ( banner events ) will not show in iCal and  Web Cal

I have iCal Server working for the most part. I am having issues with the Web Calendar not showing the all day events that are made in iCal on that group calendar. Non-All Day events show on both the iCal on the client computer and on the Web Calendar. Also events can be added and edited by multiple users.
If I make and all day event on the Web Calendar, it does not show up on the iCal client. If I make an all day event on the iCal client it does not show in the Web Calendar.
I made a banner event on the Webcalendar. One user could see the event in his iCal, I could not. He changed the status to "All Day Event" then the event disappeared from the Web Calendar, and showed up in my iCal.

Same problem here! Apple should really get their act together if they are serious about groupware and their server software; all-day events are a crucial part of a calendaring system!
I wonder if Apple actually use their own software? I can't imagine that they'd let this one go on unsolved for this long

  • New contact's birthday not showing up in calendar. iOS 7.1.1 related?

Not sure if this is iOS 7.1.1 related but if I add a new contact with birthday entry (or a new birthday to an existing contact), the new birthday will not show up in the calendar on iPhone and iPad. It will correctly show on my Mac and in ICloud calendar. It makes no difference if I add birthday on iOS device, iCloud or Mac.
The contac information shows up correctly on all devices, but not birthdays in iOS calendar.
Anyone alse who has the same problem or could try to replicate it?

This is what worked for me.
Open the Calendar app and select Calendars and untick Birthdays.
Close the Calendar app and unload from memory i.e. press the home button twice and swipe up the Calendar app.
Re-open the Calendar app and select Calendars and reselect Birthdays.
All the birthdays now appeared....at least for me.

  • Old birthdays not showing

Is this a bug or a setting that I am missing?
The problem happens on OS 4 and prior.
All my contacts with birthdays prior to the year 1932 do not show up on the calander.
In addition the recurring events in Microsoft Outlook prior to 1932 do not show up either.
How do I get the old brithdays to show up on my calander?

have you seen this other recent entry on the birthday bug?

I have added my contacts birthdays in Address Book but it hasnt populated over to iCal

  • Missed ANOTHER appointment - Invites received in Mail not showing in iCal

I missed an appointment this morning, and it's because of a bug in Mail/iCal.
This is how it's supposed to work:
    - iCal collects invitations from Mail.
    - The invites show up in the notifications area and also show up in "gray" in the calendar pane.
    - You can Accept/Decline within the notifications area or by double-clicking the gray appointment.
Unfortunately this is NOT working for me. It used to work beautifully. Then I started missing occasional invitations. Now it seems rare that it works.
Note: I have a very large mailbox, and a lot of the missed invitations are being sent from Outlook. However many missed appointments are also being sent from another iCal user.
I've seen this issue reported elsewhere, but without resolution:
(related but not the same): http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11583205&#11583205
(identical issue, posted 09/2009, a re-post from 8 months earlier):

When is apple going to fix this? I run my business on this platform and just spent an hour figuring out how I missed an important meeting. I dug through the forums, found the above unanswered issues, and now I'm posting this detailed message in hopes that it will be fixed.

Unfortunately, .ics files, which is how iCal invites are sent +as attachments+, are not recognized by the Mail app on the iPhone. Only Apple can alter that.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.
Note that the New Invitation Alerts setting on the iPhone applies to calendar invites sent via MobileMe or MS Exchange (those are true calendar invites, not email attachments).
