BISE1 database hangs on shutdown...

When trying to shutdown the BISE1 database via SQL Plus, it just hangs there and does nothing. Any ideas?
Where can I check?
Thank you!

Do the following:
shutdown immediate
startup dba
shutdown
the startup dba is to keep other logons out. There are some process tring to logon...

    Dear experts ,
we have scheduled cold backup for our database.
is there any solution to resolve below mentioned errors other than RMAN hot backup or shutdown abort ?

    Hi,
should we daily kill these processes with LOCAL=NO
what is proposed solution in such cases ?
is it not harmful for OS or database to kill these processes daily ?Yon can create shell script to find kill session only when you find active calls in your database alert log. You need not have to kill it on daily basis.

  • What to do when database hang

    Hi all,
May I know what to do when database hangs after shutdown immediate command perform? Can I use kill process command to stop Oracle process?

    Hello,
see documentation for details of immediate-clause:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/start.htm#sthref589
You can do an shutdown abort instead, but then sql is terminated. You can read details here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/start.htm#sthref595

  • Shutting down database hangs

    Dear Gurus,
I m facing a database hang issue while performing the scheduled offline backup.I m able to take the online backup. When the backup starts , the database starts to shutdown. When checked in the log of backup it shows in tail as shutting down database. When checked for user trace , it shows message as "Attempting to kill pid xxxxxxx" and keeps on retrying for n no. of times. Then I have to manually kill the backup and restart the application. Then again try for an offline backup. This time it happens smoothly. This activity we did for couple of weeks .But now from past 3 days even after restarting the backup, it goes to hang mode.In other words unable to perform the backup activity.
The message had been raised to SAP from almost 15 days at very high. They every time ask the logs , and say that the data in log is nt providing much info for analysing the issue or cause of hang. Also enabled the traces of 10400 for trace level 1 ,10 some more traces also. But still the output is not helping even them to analyse the root cause.
Its my observation that this issue is occuring only on ABAP+JAVA systems(CRM &BIW)not in ECC.We are on oracle database 10.2.0.0.4 with latest patch set as suggested by SAP for the same issue.
    This issue is h
Please suggest me at the earliest. As need to resolve this at the earliest.

  • Primary and Physical Standby databases hanging on sqlplus shell command...

I am primarily a java developer that has had the task of oracle dba thrust upon me due to circumstances that are beyond my control. In the QA lab we have two oracle 10 g release 1 instances running. They set up in a dataguard configuration: one is the primary and the other is in a physical standby.
Last week I noticed that the disk space on the primary database was at 100%. After some investigation I discovered that a good deal of the files taking up space on the box were log files and the best solution that I could think of would be to delete all old archive files. So I deleted the old archive files that were at least two weeks old using RMAN.
During this week the database started to shutdown automatically. The QA associate restarted the database twice using the ‘STARTUP’ command from sqlplus. Additionally, the standby database began to have issues: when login in to sqlplus the application would just hang: no ‘SQL” prompt or anything. Finally today the primary database has also begun to hang in a similar manner.
I have looked at many of the trace files and alert logs but haven’t been able to really discern what the real problem is with the database and the proper rectification for the database. Does anyone have a clue into what is going on? If someone could even point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Guessing that your flash recovery area is full, archiving is stopped so the instance appears to hang.
Do you see messages like so in the alert log:
You have following choices to free up space from flash recovery area:
    1. Consider changing RMAN RETENTION POLICY. If you are using Data Guard,
then consider changing RMAN ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY.
    2. Back up files to tertiary device such as tape using RMAN
       BACKUP RECOVERY AREA command.
    3. Add disk space and increase db_recovery_file_dest_size parameter to
       reflect the new space.
    4. Delete unnecessary files using RMAN DELETE command. If an operating
system command was used to delete files, then use RMAN CROSSCHECK and
       DELETE EXPIRED commands.

  • How to find out the info regarding Solaris, server hang or shutdown.

    Hi
As I am handling the Solaris 9 Server remotely.
As in last week the server has stopped to respond suddenly, we have tried to ping, ssh which was not working. As ultimately we have asked the Data Centre Team to hard reboot the same, to resolve the issue.
In the same ref I would like to know how we come to know the reason, what caused to reboot the same, i.e . any log file, etc..
I have check /var/adm/messages, but not found any detail for the same.
    Thanks

    No core files?
    No hope for an answer.
As you learned in the other Internet forum.
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/how-to-find-out-the-info-regarding-solaris-server-hang-or-shutdown.-621500/
    To get such corefiles analyzed,
you would need to use your service contract and log a support case with Sun.
They have the special software tools to do that.

My database server has 10g with MS 2003 server as OS.
Twice a day the database hangs and does disconnects all the users from local and remote locations.

  • Oracle 8i database hangs for the same amount during JDBC calls.

    Hi all,
I have a Oracle 8i database on solaris. The database hangs for exactly 61 seconds for a random jdbc call from my Java application, i mean there is no particular pattern or a JDBC call for which the database hangs. If i choose to wait for 61 seconds it returns the results from the database but if i try to access the database with another query(SQL Plus) the first query starts executing immediately. Is that a database configuration problem or some thing else.
And i also get some exceptions occasionally( Maximum Open Cursors exception). Are these two related?
    Any feedback is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Hugo Victor

    I have uninstalled Oracle 8i.
Removed all the services from Windows services by deleting corresponding registry entries and deleted the Oracle folder.
I have reinstalled Oracle 8i, this time i changed the name of global database to oracledb.
I channged the tnsnames.ora file from DevSuite appropriately as:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = mscserver)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORACLEDB)
Still it can't login using scott/tiger authentication.
What may be the problem? Please help.

  • ORACLE DATABASE의 AUTOMATIC STARTUP/SHUTDOWN

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 1995-11-21
    오라클 database의 AUTOMATIC STARTUP/SHUTDOWN
    ============================================
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut
    /etc/oratab 또는 /var/opt/oracle/oratab
필드는 ORACLE_SID, 두번째 필드는 ORACLE_HOME, 세번째 필드는 Y 또는 N
    SYSTEM V
    K{two-digit number][descriptive filename]
    BSD UNIX
    /etc/rc*(예를 들면, /etc/rc, /etc/rc.local) 를 사용한다.
    su <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbstart
    su oracle7 -c /home/oracle/bin/dbstart
여기서 /home/oracle 대신에 $ORACLE_HOME 과 같은 환경변수를 이용하여
    이것을 실행시켜야 한다.
    #!/bin/csh
    su <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbshut
    /etc/shutdown $*
    (2)OSF/1(DIGITAL UNIX)
    /etc/inittab : 초기화 과정을 콘트롤
    /sbin/rc3 : run-level 3 에서 사용되는 script
    /sbin/rc0 : run-level 0 에서 사용되는 script
    /sbin/rc3.d/S99oracle : /sbin/init.d/oracle 로 link
    /sbin/rc0.d/K01oracle : /sbin/init.d/oracle 로 link
    s3:3:wait:/sbin/rc3 < /dev/console > /dev/console 2>&1
따라서 /sbin/rc3.d/S99oracle 을 사용하여
    s0:0:wait:/sbin/rc0 off < /dev/console > /dev/console 2>&1
    이것은 /sbin/rc0 를 실행시키는데 /sbin/rc0 는 /sbin/rc0.d 디렉토리에
따라서 /sbin/rc0.d/K01oracle 스크립트는 stop 파라미터를 갖고
실행되며 이 스크립트는 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut 스크립트를 실행시켜서
    /sbin/rc3.d/S99oracle과 /sbin/rc0.d/K01oracle은 모두 /sbin/init.d/oracle
에 대한 symbolic link 이다. /sbin/init.d/oracle 에 대한 symbolic link 는
    (3)Solaris 2.3 & SCO UNIX
    /etc/inittab : 초기화 과정을 콘트롤
    /etc/rc2.d/S99dbstart : /etc/init.d/dbstart 에 대한 link
    /etc/rc0.d/K01dbshut : /etc/init.d/dbshut 에 대한 link
    /var/opt/oracle/oratab
    /etc/init.d/dbstart 와 /etc/init.d/dbshut 스크립트의 내용은 각각 다음과
    su - <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbstart
    su - <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbshut
Solaris 에서는 start, stop 같은 파라미터는 /etc/init.d/dbstart,
    /etc/init.d/dbshut 에서는 무시된다.
/etc/init.d/dbstart, /etc/init.d/dbshut 화일은 owner가 oracle owner id
    (4)AIX
    /etc/inittab : 시스템 초기화 화일
    /etc/mkitab : /etc/inittab 을 수정하는 유틸리티
    a)/etc/mkitab 를 사용하여 /etc/inittab 에 entry 를 추가한다. 즉,
    /etc/mkitab "<oracle_owner>:2:wait:/bin/su <oracle_owner> -c
    <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbstart > /dev/console 2>&1"
    /etc/mkitab "rcoracle:2:wait:/etc/rc.oracle > /dev/console 2>&1"
    su <oracle_owner> <<EOF
    <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbstart
    EOF
    /bin/su <oracle_owner> - c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbstart
    #!/bin/sh
    /bin/su <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbshut
    /etc/shutdown $*
    (5)HP/UX
    /etc/rc : 시스템 startup 화일
    /etc/shutdown.d : 시스템 shutdown 디렉토리
    su <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbstart
a)$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut 화일을 /etc/shutdown.d 디렉토리 아래에 copy
    b)/etc/shutdown.d/dbshut 을 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut 으로 symbolic link 지정
    c)다음과 같은 스크립트 작성
    #!/bin/sh
    su <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbshut

    Dear Alexdelarg,
First launch the "Services" applet from the Windows NT Control Panel. Double-click on the "OracleService<SID>" service and verify that "Startup Type" is set to "Automatic", "Log On As" is set to "System Account", and that the "Allow Service to Interact with Desktop" check box is disabled.
Then launch REGEDIT and check that the Value String ORA_<SID>AUTOSTART within the key My Computer\HKEYLOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE is set to "TRUE".
If the above does not rectify your startup problem, try issuing the following command from the Command Prompt:
<ORACLE_HOME>\bin\oradim -edit -sid <SID> -startmode auto
where <ORACLE_HOME> is the full path of your Oracle8i Server software and <SID> is the Service Identifier of your database.
    Hope this helps!

  • Mac Pro 5,1 hangs on shutdown

I use a 2012 3.33 GHz 6-core Mac Pro 5,1 in my recording studio, running OS 10.9.2 with 16 GB RAM. I use all of the PCIe slots:  slot #1 is the ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card, #2 is a Universal Audio UAD-2 Quad card for my powered-plugin library, #3 is the Avid Pro Tools HD-Native card and #4 is an OWC Accelsior 120GB 6G SSD which I use as my primary Pro Tools production drive.
Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks and added the Accelsior SSD (this January) the computer hangs on shutdown and occasionally on startup. With shutdown it's the same every time - when I shut it down I get a blank gray screen with only the cursor arrow showing, and I can still move the arrow around. After a few minutes I hit the power button to force it to shut off.
The machine also runs very sluggishly and takes forever to boot up.  It almost as if there are a ton of hidden processes bogging it down.
I've checked and re-checked for viruses, I've reset the SMC and PRAM, I use Disk Utility to verify all my drives and repair all the disk permissions about 3 times per week, and I do daily diagnostics with Tech Tool Pro 7.  I'm about to pull all the PCIe cards except the graphics card and disconnect all peripherals except keyboard and mouse and then reconnect everything in steps but before I do all that I was wondering if any forum participants have dealt with a similar problem ?

You could try a different SSD than the Mercury model from OWC.
Also, any and even the ones from OWC should have TRIM enabled and you do not.
I have a number of Samsung SSD and just noticed one $110 250GB

  • Database Hang Analysis

    DB:11.2.0.3
    OS :Linux 5
My database is in hung state now. I did the below steps
    sqlplus -prelim '/as sysdba'
    SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Thu Oct 24 08:18:17 2013
Copyright (c) 1982, 2011, Oracle.  All rights reserved.
    SQL> oradebug setmypid
    Statement processed.
    SQL> oradebug unlimit
    Statement processed.
    SQL> oradebug hanganalyze 3
    Statement processed.
    SQL> oradebug hanganalyze 3
    Statement processed.
    SQL> oradebug tracefile_name
    /oemdwlk1/oracle/diag/rdbms/eioemd1/eioemd1/trace/eioemd1_ora_14132.trc
    SQL> exit
Getting the below output in trace file
    Processing Oradebug command 'hanganalyze 3'
    ===============================================================================
    HANG ANALYSIS:
ERROR: Can not perform hang analysis dump without a process
state object and a session state object.
      ( process=(nil), sess=(nil) )
As per oracle doc How to Collect Diagnostics for Database Hanging Issues (Doc ID 452358.1).
Note: From 11.2.0.2 onwards, hanganalyze will not produce output under a sqlplus "preliminary connection" since it requires a process state object and a session state object. If a hanganalyze is attempted, the trace will output:
    HANG ANALYSIS:
ERROR: Can not perform hang analysis dump without a process state object and a session state object.
    ( process=(nil), sess=(nil) )
Is something i am missing or there is some different steps.
    ===============================================================================

Level 3  --> will collect HANGANALYZE OUTPUT + DUMPS ONLY THE PROCESSES THOUGH TO BE IN HANG.
This many not be a case of process hang. So check with LEVEL 10 .
Still if you are getting the same error than , you need to contact oracle support.
    Thanks,

  • ERP database did not shutdown

    Hi
We have Oracle ERP R12.0.6 running on single node configuration. Usually we take full offline backups on friday morning. Even after issuing the command > shutdown immediate, database did not shutdown for 2 hours as some 'Create accounting' concurrent program was running for past 44 hours. Why database did not kill this session? Is our SGA or redolog files size are not proper?
    How to diagnose this issue?
    Regards

Yes, you are right. Using the other session, i had issue shut abort and it has resolved the issue. We have job_queue_processes = 2 and aq_tm_processes=1.
But my concern is, i cannot add >shut abort command in my script. What is the other alternative or what parameter to be tuned? Please guide me.
