Bizarre iSync Hotsync PDA Problem

I have a palm Tungsten E2, second one. I had originally set up hotsync and iSync to perfectly synchronize using iCal, etc. instead of the palm desktop functions. My original E2 was stolen. After a month, I got a replacement, plugged it in and tried to sync. No go.
I have reinstalled the latest palm desktop today from the palm website. I deleted the device from the device list in iSync and started over with adding a new device. It finds my device and I enable Palm OS syncing. I go thru all the steps including the step where the conduits will be placed in the palm hotsync disabled conduits folder.
No matter how many times I restart and redo this process, I get the following problems: 1- my device comes up the the yellow warning sign in iSync indicating that I need to Enable Palm OS syncing again; 2- I get a message in the Hotsync Log "User * configured for Palm Address Book conduit and corresponding iSync data class, skipping iSync to avoid conflicting modifications 3/21/06 7:23:43 PM
iSync Conduit: Sending Error Response 6: User * configured for Palm Address Book conduit and corresponding iSync data class 3/21/06 7:23:46 PM
iSync Conduit: received NULL message, disconnecting... 3/21/06 7:23:46 PM"
I cannot figure out what to try next. Any suggestions?

This could be a permissions issue - I had to change the permssions on the 3 folders even though I run Tiger

[From the palm site]
Palm Desktop Installer Access Denied error after iSync 1.2 Palm Conduit has been installed.
You may receive the following error during installation or re-installation of Palm Desktop if you have installed the iSync 1.2 Palm Conduit for Mac OS X:
"Sorry, the operation could not be completed due to a System error. (Access Denied.)"
Explanation: the iSync 1.2 Palm Conduit installer changes the ownership and permission settings of some Palm folders to Read Only. The Palm Desktop Installer requires these folders have Read & Write access.
Workaround: A user with Administrator privileges (usually the primary user under Mac OS X) must change these privileges prior to running the Palm Desktop installer.
Perform one of the following procedures to change the affected folder privileges:
Mac OS X 10.2.x and 10.3.x
1. Download and install the latest version of Palm Desktop for Macintosh from the Palm support website, here: http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/mac_desktop.html
Alternatively, if you need to reinstall your software from the original CD you must perform the following procedure.
In the Finder, select the "/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync" folder. Note that this is the Library folder at the ‘root' level of your hard drive, not the Library folder in your user Home folder.
Select "Get Info" from the File menu.
Select the lock icon next to the "Owner" name to unlock it.
Select the Owner menu and select your username (or a user with Admin privileges). You may be asked to enter your password at this time.
Change the Owner's Access to "Read & Write"
Select the "Group" name and change it to "Admin"
Change the Group's Access to "Read & Write"
Repeat steps 2 through 8 for the following two folders:
"/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits"
"/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Disabled Conduits"

  • Can't find palm tungsten isync hotsync conduit in leopard

Attempting to sync my Palm Tungsten E2 with iCal & Address Book by USB but iSync can't set up when I attempt to Enable Palm Syncing. iSync Hotsync Conduit does not install and is not found on searching with Spotlight. Palm Hotsync works fine. Where is my software not configured properly?

Problem solved. I was logged into a User Account that did not have permissions to move the conduits to a new folder 'iSync Disabled Conduits'. Logging into the System Manager Account enabled this process to proceed and reverting back to the sub-account the configuring for Enable Palm Syncing process now completed.

  • Isync hotsync conduits

isync says to install isync hotsync conduit to Palm Hotsync conduit folder. How do you do that. I have the 4.2.1 palm version installed

You simply add your Palm device to iSync using the Add Palm OS Device… option. The basis Add Device… option is reserved for supported mobile handsets and Symbian OS smartphones.
As you go through that process, iSync installs the iSync Palm Conduit and deactivates conflicting Palm supplied conduits, along with the Memo Conduit and Memos Conduit. Those memo-related conduits can be reactivated manually, as they do not actually cause any conflict with the iSync Palm Conduit, which has not memo handling capability whatsoever.
In some case, under Mac OS X 10.5 and later, the installed iSync Palm Conduit is effectively inert, and must be replaced. If you do not see it using the conduit configuration dialog in the HotSync Manager or in the Palm Desktop, then write to the address in my Public Profile for a replacement conduit package.

  • ISync & Palm Desktop Problems

I'm trying to move (sync?) my Palm Address Book contacts over to Apple Address Book. I've updated my Palm OS to v. 3.5.3 (and done a HotSync with the new version) and I'm running OSX 10.5.6 on my desktop Mac. I printed out the directions from iSync "Help" and everything goes along fine until I open "HotSync Manager" (as instructed) from my apps. folder. In the instruction it says to "choose HotSync > Conduit Settings" I do not see this option in my HotSync Manager folder. When I click on the folder, the heading on the new window is titled "HotSync Software Set Up" and the only 2 options are "HotSync Controls" which just starts a HotSync and "Connection Settings" which has no mention of "Conduit Settings". Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions, I've hit the wall.

hotsync manager should be a program not a folder. If it does appear as a folder, you might want to add the extension '.app' to it. Once in hotsync manager, conduit settings is a menu item

  • ISync + Nokia 6300 problem

This problem appeared literally overnight and has me completely stumped.
iSync has stopped syncing (or my Nokia 6300 has stopped sending) current- and future-month events to iCal. I have synced a number of times, tried removing the phone from the iSync list and re-adding it, and all that happens is all events for all months prior to the current month get synced. New events are not being added.
    Any ideas??

OK, I've found the answer. I've used the plugin found here (in my case the one for iSync 2.4) instead of the one mention in the post above:
    http://www.s60themes.co.uk/

  • Bizarre Crash After Startup problem

I have been having a very annoying problem with my PB for a while now that came to a head earlier today. All relevant software updates have been installed.
Recent changes: upgraded from 1 to 2GB of RAM.
Very shortly after startup (usually within a minute) the machine crashes. I have noticed 4 different presentations:
1). This is the most common. The screen will "blip" after which the computer no longer accepts any commands, though I can still move the cursor around. Most of the time, right after the screen blip, a tight row of small vertical multi-colored lines will appear somewhere on the screen.
    2) No screen "blip" but the comptuer still freezes. Usually this occurs after logging in but before the desktop fully loads, though sometimes this happens immediately after the desktop finishes loading. Usually I will not have cursor control after this.
    3) Screen blip, with cursor control, but the computer has crashed. Then the "beach Ball" appears for a few seconds, followed by the pointing hand cursor (when the hand should not appear).
    4) This is the rarest type of crash. The screen will blip, I will lose cursor control, then the screen slowly starts fading away to white (one horizontal line at a time).
The bizarre thing is that once I restart, only very rarely will it crash a second time. It will work perfectly and remain stable as long as I need it to. But once the computer has sat idle for abour 6 hours or more (typically overnight), it will be prone to a freeze again within a minute of being used. It does not matter whether it had been shut down completely, put into Sleep, or just left sitting idle.
I had initially thought that perhaps the problem was related to a recent RAM upgrade (though of course the problem didn't begin in earnest until AFTER the 14 day return period for the RAM had expired), but because of what happened earlier today, I no longer believe that to be the case.
Today I found it necessary to take the computer on the road with me. I had only planned on using it for a few minutes (I just needed to show someone reference photos for a project we were working on) so I didn't bother to bring the power adapter with me (plus I hadn't felt like crawling under my desk to retrieve it).
Once I got there, the comptuer crashed immediately (it had been asleep). But this time, instead of settling down after the first crash, it kept crashing. Reboot after reboot after reboot and I couldn't get more than about a minute out of it before it crashed again. I tried removing and reseating the RAM to no avail. I stubbornly kept trying though about 20 reboots. Finally, having lost my patience (and suppressing an urge to hurl the machine through a window) I left it where it was (in the care of a friend) drove home, got the power adapter and went back. I plugged it in, started it up, it crashed once, then settled down and was usable again.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this? I hope it isn't something that will require me to get a new machine. I use this one every day and can't afford to replace it right now. Thank you in advance.
EDIT: I haven't tried reinstalling the old RAM to see if that solves the problem, but based on what happened while on battery, I no longer believe it's a RAM related issue.

    Well, six weeks later.....
I did try reinstalling the original RAM. With the old RAM in place, the problem persists. If anything it's even worse now. Now the comptuer is susceptible to crashing at pretty much any time. It's getting to the point where it's almost unusable.
I'm not sure if it will help, but at one point I took a digital picture of the screen after a crash. This shows what is typical of the "type 1" crash. Since apparently images aren't allowed here, here's a direct link to the photo.

  • Bizarre Mac Mail Identity Problem

I have a most bizarre problem and I'm dearly hopeful someone out there might help me understand what is happening.
We have an email account that runs through Google Apps.  I'll call it "sender@mydomain"  This email account + a regular gmail account + other email accounts are set up on my macbook pro running Yosemite.
    Here is what happens:
    1. An email is sent from the regular gmail address, which I'll call "sender@gmail"
    2. On the receiving end, the sender email doesn't show as "sender@gmail" but "sender@mydomain"
In other words, some how the "sender@mydomain" email identity is OVERRIDING the email indicated as the sent email.
At first I thought this was limited to only the regular gmail, BUT the "[email protected]" also overrides all other accounts sent from this computer, including the iCloud account!
I hope all of that makes sense. Has anyone ever had this kind of problem before? Any idea what might be causing this problem and how I can fix it?
Many thanks in advance for your time and assistance.
    Cheers,
    Tim

Open Mail Preferences, and go to Accounts tab. Check you gmail account and that the correct SMTP server is selected for this account.
Do the same for other accounts selecting them one-by-one.

  • Bizarre Broadband / Phone line problem..... please...

    Hi all
Currently suffering a very bizarre problem with BT Broadband. Here's the chronological order of what has happened, note that I run a wired connection to my computer from my BT hub (model version 3) that is connected to my phone line through an extension socket upstairs in my house.
    1) Woke up and BB all of a sudden not working, orange BB light flashing on hub. Not touched or done anything different, BB worked fine the night before. Phones connected to extension sockets work fine.
    2) Rang BT, they advised resetting hub etc. Still not working.
    3) BT advised connect hub to another extension socket in my house. Still not working.
    4) BT advised swap microfilters. Still not working.
    5) BT ran line tests (quiet line etc.), detected no problems.
    6) BT advised plug hub into master phone socket. Still not working.
    7) BT advised unscrew master socket, remove faceplate and plug hub directly to test socket (the one with the direct link to the BT incoming phone line). Did and it works! Of course, phones then don't work as the faceplate is off so no extension sockets have a signal.
    8) BT said it is not their problem to fix and must be an internal wiring problem since the incoming signal works fine.
My worry is, if it's an internal wiring problem then why do the phones still work? Is it possible that overnight the BB signal weakened and now doesn't transmit through my internal wiring? Please help as I currently can only have BB or phones working and not both together!
    Thanks in advance
    Mosh

ok you say your phones are still working is there any noise on the phones try the quiet line test dial 17070 if you hear any noise then that is the cause of your problem unfortunately if the noise is only heard on the extensions then the fault is down to you to repair as BT would charge you if however the noise can still be heard at the test socket then report it as a noise fault on 151 but do not mention broadband

  • Tungsten T5 iSync, HotSync, Missing Sync for iCal, Mail and Address Book

I have just been given an old Palm Tungsten T5 and have been looking at the various options available to make it do what I need with regard to syncing it with my G5 PPC iMac with 10.4.11.
I use the T5 only when I am away (from the iMac) and travelling and would like a set- up that allows me to sync, in this order of priority:
iCal, including annual events such as birthdays, and differently colour-coded calendars and, if possible, to dos although these are less important
    Mail
Address Book, in which I really only have e-mail addresses
According to some old threads on the subject, Missing Sync appears to be the program of choice for syncing iCal and Address Book, but not Mail. Instead there appears to be something called Mail.App Conduit 2.0.1 requiring at least Palm Desktop 4, and presumably HotSync.
Is there a single program that will sync all three of these Mac applications effectively? If not, am I going to have to (buy and install and then) uninstall Missing Sync and Palm Desktop (or HotsSync) alternately?
    Is iSync a real option?
Or is there some clever way of using one or more programs to start with and then switch over to just one?
I would be grateful for any advice as to how to deal with this. Thank you.
    Nick

I don't know if you can do this with the Centro. I should have mention that I was talking about webOS (Pre and Pixi). To sync with webOS you need Mac OS 10.5 or later for iCal, and 10.6 for Address Book.

  • 9500 iSync and backup problem

    Hi,
While I am over the moon that Apple has finally added support for the 9500 to iSync, I feel cruelly teased since it has been creating a big problem for me:
Since installing the iSync conduit I can't make backups on the phone anymore, as iSync seems to be using the Contacts app on the communicator, which make the Backup app fail. Has anyone else got this problem? I have found a workaround in that I uninstall the iSync conduit before every backup and let iSync reinstall it. but that is really tiresome.
    Any ideas?
I am starting to get unspecified 'bluetooth error' messages on the phone, too, and now I am wondering if they are related.
    Regards,
    Fiver

    Andrea,
I ran 'Add Device' in the Devices menu in iSync after making sure that the phone was paired with the mac (using Bluetooth Setup Assistant). It used to find the phone and then tell me that it was incompatible, but this time it told me I had to load the iSync conduit to the phone. The program appeared in my inbox on the phone and I could install it. Then I could sync. Syncing worked fine for me, but make sure you make a backup of your phone (using backup app) and iCal/Addressbook (using Backup Database in File menu of the apps) before you do anything! I would hate for anything to happen to your data, specially as people sometimes get duplicates on first sync and such like.
On a related note I am getting an error when I try to start Bluetooth on the phone. That most likely isn't connected to the iSync conduit, as Bluetooth worked after the install. Have you ever come across that? It just says 'Bluetooth Error' when I try to start the service.
    Hope this helps,
    Fiver

  • Bizarre Yahoo Instant Messenger problem

    Hi,
I am using the Yahoo Instant Messenger as a startup item, have been for years. Today when I started up it did something funny; it told me I had X number of e-mails and then showed and played alerts for each one of them. Then I opened iTunes. The playlist I'd selected yesterday was still chosen and when I scrolled down to it, saw that for some bizarre reason (there are reasons for these things, aren't there?) the Yahoo IM alert sound repertoire was listed in the playlist as well as the radio station I had originally chosen for that playlist.
I think it is a Yahoo IM problem but just wanted to post this since it was so bizarre.
I have to add that my machine has been acting strange lately. Two kernal panics in about a week. A freeze yesterday. Other bad things after about a month of just plain uneventfulness. It is likely things like the above problem are due to things being amiss with OSX as much as the Yahoo IM (beta 3.0 1 (build 17006) I thought I was running the same version of the Yahoo IM but it seems to have been switched to the beta version a few days ago. (All I did was look at the the new version's web site but I wasn't aware I'd intentionally changed versions.)

  • Possible solution to the iSync 2.2 problems?

Earlier today I posted to the thread: "isync doesnt work any more after mac os update" - post no. 102 at the time! iSync wasn't even opening for me, & I described the symptoms. There was a speedy reply from Aur, who asked to see the Console Log (which I'd never heard of), and then suggested I remove the Sync Services folder from Home > Library > Application Support. Apologies for copying my reply into a new thread - but there have been several other threads started on the same topic, and this might save a few folk some time and frustration.
    Aur,
Hey, that's it! I looked in Home > Library > Application Support, & found 2 folders:
    1) Sync Service (NB no final 's') - Modified 29 Apr 2005
    2) Sync Services - Modified Today
I removed 2) Sync Services, but there was no change in the behaviour; I then removed 1) Sync Service, and iSync immediately did everything it's supposed to! I was apprehensive about doing 'Erase all ... ', but it worked fine and transferred all Contacts & Calendars to the phone in a couple of minutes.
iSync has rebuilt its Sync Services folder & seems to be a happy Appy. It has even managed to transfer a couple of contacts it had trouble with before the upgrade, and the K750i can now tell me what I'm supposed to be doing in 12 months time ...
So the villain of the piece seems to be an old Sync Service (no final 's') folder, I presume left over from an earlier version of iSync (1.5?) that for some reason didn't interfere with 2.1 but does cause trouble with 2.2.
I hope this helps some of the others who have been caught out by this.
    Many thanks to Aur!

I too was having . . . problems, but by deleting my 'sync services' folder has fixed it for me.
    My problems were a bit different. Prior to deleting the 'sync services' folder, when I loaded up isync, I get a lot of time to admire . . . . nothing happening, before isync would eventually open. The only thing is, all that it would open was the isync icon on the dock and the 'isync' and 'help' menu items. Even though the 'isync' and 'help' menu items were showing, clicking on either would fail to present a drop down menu. Right clicking on the 'isync' dock item would give me a 'sync devices' option (as well as 'keep in dock', 'open at login', 'show in finder', 'hide' and quit') but when I selected it, I got a pop up window advising me;
"syncronisation is not enabled on this computer - You need to turn on synchronisation in iSync preferences before you can synchronise any information."
Wierder still was the fact that when this pop up window was up, I was able to get a drop down menu to appear under 'isync' and 'help', however no 'preferences' option was available under either (isync has 'services', 'hide isync', 'hide others', and 'quit isync', while help only has the 'help' option).
I had tried to get to preferenes through the .mac pane, but both the 'sync' and the 'advanced' tabs were greyed out, and unresponsive to my frantic clicking. It is interesting to note that the deletion of the 'sync services' folder has fixed this problem as well.
Another wierd thing was that when I 'command tab' to isync, although 'command tab' showed that I had selected isync, the menu bar still showed the menu options for the last viewed program (i.e. safari).
So in short, this does work, not sure why. As such, I am now able to sync my n70 without a hitch.
    thanks guys.

  • Please help! Bizarre login/user account problem

In 24 years of using Macs, this is the most frustrating thing I've ever faced and I am in desperate need of help.
For the entire story of my circumstances, see below. The short version of my problem: My auto-login user account is corrupt but I can't figure out how to bypass/interrupt it so I can log in to a different user account. Is there a way to use Single User Mode to do this - to get to the regular login screen where I can enter a different user name and password???
I follwed the steps outlined by Michael in this thread, but it did not work
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1124380
Any expedient help is greatly appreciated, I'm in dire straights...my Mac has been down for a week with this problem and my work is suffering.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Nelson
Here's the long version of how I arrived at these circumstances:
I have a single (admin level) user account on my new Mac Pro, with auto-login enabled. The home folder is on a separate internal drive (bay 2) from the OS/applications (bay 1). Out of nowhere, I got the error "You are unable to log in to the user account. Login failed because an error occurred." I was not able to login to my machine. When I tried to boot from my bootable clone backup, got the same error. Tried to boot from the Leopard install DVD, got the 5-language kernel panic screen. Off to the Apple Store.
It didn't occur to me at this time to mention my Home folder being on a 2nd drive, that was my mistake #1. They ended up replacing the logic board and RAM riser cards, neither of which was remotely related to the problem. In the process, they were able to create a new admin-level 'test' user account, and got the machine up and running again. At this point they noticed that there was no other user/Home folder present on the startup drive and at this point I told them that it was located on drive 2. That drive was not appearing in the finder, so apparently it had croaked - and knowing this pretty much explained the original problem, to me at least.
I get home, log in as Test, delete my old user account, create a new user account and put the Home folder for this new account on drive 3. My stupid mistake #2: I used the same name for the new account as my old account, and mistake #3, turned auto-login to this account back on.
But at this point, everything was still working, and I commenced to try to recover my lost Home folder from my Time Machine backup and figure out how to restore all of my system settings, which were wiped out with the creation of the new Test user account. I'll skip over some of the other problems I ran into with Time Machine at this point and get to the real issue: after a couple of successful restarts and logins to my newly created user account (the one with the same name as my old account but with it's Home folder in a different location), the ORIGINAL "You are unable to log in to the user account. Login failed because an error occurred." error has returned.
Now I'm back where I started, and can't figure out how to log in to the Test account that resides on my startup drive, because auto-login is enabled for the 'broken' user account - even though the Home folder for this account is located on a working drive.
I've done tons of searching and can't figure out how to use Single User Mode to login to Test. When I try the login command, it says 'login incorrect', even though I am using the correct user and password. Help!!

well, something is really messed up with those accounts so I would create a new admin account, log into that and go from there.
To do that [enable the root user|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1278], safe boot, log in as root and create a new admin account, also while you are at it disable the auto login.
You can also work from the root account but I would recommend against it. It's not really safe.

  • Warning about bizarre eMac Tiger installation problem due to memory

I'm a fairly proficient user. I've upgraded the OS on my 800MHz eMac (original version with NVIDIA GeForce2 MX graphics) many times. This time, while upgrading to Tiger, I blew almost an entire weekend trouble-shooting the machine. I'm posting this so others on the forum can hopefully save themselves some time.
My machine came from the factory with 256MB RAM and a Superdrive. I had the AppleStore add another 256MB of RAM when I bought the machine in Nov 2002. This was Apple-branded RAM, not third-party.
When I tried to upgrade to Tiger, the installation would proceed through all the DVD media and system hard-drive tests, then succesfully install one or more packages. It would then fail with the "Please try to install again" message. The installation log was showing messages about file corruption. I was able to re-install Panther from CD, which eliminated optical drive failure from the list of possible problems.
I ran all of the hard-drive checks in Drive Genius and my drive passed. I ran all of the Apple Hardware Tests from my original system CD. Then I found some warnings on the Apple site about marginal third-party RAM causing this kind of problem. I first rejected this line of approach, since I had Apple RAM.
Eventually I ran out of "normal" trouble-shooting, so I decided to pull the extra memory module as a last resort prior to replacing the hard drive. Once I did this, the installation ran flawlessly using the original 256MB of RAM.
The message here is that EMAC MEMORY PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN EITHER DVD I/O OR TIGER-SPECIFIC INSTALLATION. Check your memory before cracking open the rest of the machine, even if all the Apple hardware tests say the memory is OK.
I have new memory on the way from OWC and will follow-up with status when I get some runtime on it.
As an aside, I upgraded to Tiger from Panther mainly to get the increased parental controls (this machine is destined for my kids). Now that I have Tiger, I am pleasantly impressed by the other refinements as well.

The RAM test on the Apple Hardware Test disc is a compromise between being throrough and completing in a reasonable amount of time. Memtest (especially if run in single-user mode as per it's instructions) offers a more throrough test.

  • Bizarre App "de-selection" Problem - Any idea?

Ok... This is strange enough that I am at a total loss. This literally just started happening this morning for no apparent reason. Basically what's going on is that when I am in an app, like safari or pages, or anything, after about 30 seconds of using the current window everything up top will grey out and the cursor will disappear as if I am switching to another app or something. I have to replace my cursor and continue typing (like I've had to do 3 times up to this point right here). There is nothing else open to be switched to so it really doesn't make any sense... Does anyone have any idea what might be happening? Need any more information? Thank you.

Reformatted... Re-installed OSX SL... Just restored backed up files individually, carefully checking permissions. Problem solved. Works fine. Seems to be the only solution.
