Black Block of text in java based report

I am accessing some graphical reports from a labaoratory instrument. The reports are generated by Java. The reports look fine on scree, but the issue come when I attempt to print them. When I use a PC that has IE 6 and JRE 1.5, the reports print fine. When I use an updated PC with either IE 7 or IE 8 and JRE 6.20 or 6.21, the reports just get large black blocks over the text. I can provide a screen shot, it needed.
The instrument vendor cannot recreate the issue, so they will not help.
Does anyone have any ides what might be causing this?

Guy,
You only need to include a profile if you need to convert to another CMYK space when the PDF is outputa typical case for including profiles would be one where you don't really know what the print destination is and your CMYK values might need to be reconverted at output. If you don't want additional CMYK conversions (you know the correct destination is US Sheefed) then export as PDFX/1-a, that preset includes an intent but not a profile and your black will not get converted.
Unwanted color conversions indicate that there are conflicting profiles somewhere.

  • Compare Java based reporting to OBIEE

    Hello All,
    Due to a lot of misconceptions, my current client thinks that a lot of their problems will be resolved by simply retiring OBIEE and write all the reports in Java.
    Some requirements are unrealistic to ask from OBIEE and some are well...limitations.
    The client has asked us to give him reasons why he still should be on OBIEE. Has anyone done a comparison of Java based reports and OBIEE (or any BI tool)?
    Reasons why OBIEE stands out would also help.
    Thanks all!!

    There are many, many reasons why to use OBIEE. One of the bigger reasons being you don't need to know anything about Java in order to build an Answer Report.
    I've been asked a similar question in the past, to compare OBIEE versus Java based ADF. My response is that they have two completely different purposes.
    --OBIEE is end-user/middle-user driven dashboards and ad-hoc analysis.
    --Java/ADF is for power-users to pre-constructed reporting systems. (forgive me but I don't know the ad-hoc capabilities of Java/ADF)
    If your client has full-time java resources to commit to the creation and maintenance of a Java environment, then by all means they should probably go that route. But keep in mind that as new uses want to see different data layouts and different data sets, your java team will quickly become overburdened.
    OBIEE relieves the strain on the java (IT) team and allows end-users to drive reporting with the relatively occasional support by IT.
    Yes, OBIEE does have limitations, but always keep in mind that a) It's an ad-hoc Dashboard framework and not an ad-hoc java framework which has much greater flexibility but requires much more technical expertise b) There is a major release of OBIEE (11g) just around the corner that is about to change the game in terms of how OBIEE can be used. You should have your client stay on board until they can at least see the new features.
    Good luck and if you found this post useful, please award points!
    Best regards,

  • Black (K = 100) text in InDesign being reported as CMYK in Acrobat

    These are the settings in my InDesign documents:
    CMYK working color space: US Sheetfed Uncoated v2
    Preserve embedded profiles
    Text set to K = 100
    When I exported to PDF, these were the settings under Output > Color:
    No color conversion
    Include all profiles
    I opened the document in Acrobat and went to Advanced > Output Preview to make sure that what was supposed to be grayscale was grayscale. When I ran the pointer over the text, it came up in CMYK values and not K = 100. That was a surprise. When I changed the SIMULATION PROFILE in the OUTPUT PREVIEW window to US Sheetfed Uncoated v2 (the same profile as in InDesign) the text was listed as K = 100. I assumed the reading being given was actually the color numbers, not 'mapped' color numbers i.e. the color numbers if they were converted to the new space.
    Anyway, it was obvious I wasn't on top of this, so I went to ADVANCED > PREFLIGHT >LIST ALL NON BW OBJECTS to check what was BW and what was not. Up came several hundred items, including every font in the document.
    I could force the text to BW, but I had to go back to InDesign and change the settings (Output > Color) to:
    No color conversion
    i Don't include profiles
    Aha! When I repeated the above tests in Acrobat, no matter what simulation profile I chose, text was always shown as K = 100. A list of all non-BW objects listed only color images -- just what I wanted.
    I need a few hints on why this occurred.
    QUES: Why should including a colour profile when exporting from InDesign cause K = 100 to map to CMYK? Surely the color numbers going to Acrobat are unaltered out of InDesign (i.e. K = 100 is sent as K = 100) so Acrobat must be changing them. InDesign says of "No Color Conversion": "Uses existing color numbers and doesn't convert them". So why does Acrobat report them as changed?

  • Text appears in black blocks.

    Hi
    I am using adobe reader in solaris 9 and any text I see is appearing as black blocks. For example when I open adobe reader help, the menu on the left hand window appears OK but when I select one of the topics like for example the first one (Using help), everything on the right hand window appears in black boxes. Nothing is readable. Other than this the application opens fine and all of the menus are OK. I would really apprieciate if anyone could help.

    Now is in remission. In January, 2003 have been found out viruses of hepatitises In and With,
    That very seriously threatens life of Sasha. Now we find additional financial assets for this purpose,

    Thanks all who helped, helps or wishes to help, the help to our girl now is necessary.
    Then we spent a lot of time with the child on air, walking on wood. After 3 hours of walks Sasha has started to complain of strong weariness and a pain in joints. Have taken temperature. 38,7. The doctor who has suspected a usual sharp respiratorno-virus infection has been immediately caused. Standard antibiotics and warm tea with a raspberry have been appointed. Late at night observed very strong pains in the bottom of a stomach and its pressure (the stomach was «доскообразный»).Fast immediately hospitalised the child in the Central regional hospital of of Balashikha with suspicion on a sharp appendicitis. Emergency operation has been spent, the diagnosis has proved to be true. The peritonitis, an inflammation began. Operation on appendicitis removal has passed successfully. But after operation condition Сашеньки has not improved. The heat (from above 38).В stably kept Every possible analyses of blood, including on rare infectious diseases, have not given results. But viruses of a belly typhus and a salmonella have been found out. Meanwhile a condition of the child promptly worsened. Haemoglobin level was more low 60, the quantity тромбоцитов and лекоцитов has sharply decreased. Donor blood and an intravenous hormone преднизолон was applied. From children's branch of oncology МООД of Balashikha, Svetlana Varfolomeyev has been invited to that moment were зав.отделением which has suspected system disease of blood at the child. This is how you retrieve all the text fields in the reort:
    ReportObjects reportObjects = (ITextObject) oReportClientDocument.getReportDefController().getReportObjectController().getReportObjectsByKind(ReportObjectKind.text);
    for(int i=0; i< reportObjects.size();i++)
    ITextObject textObject = (ITextObject)reportObjects.get(i);
    // use ReportObjectController to modify the text object.
    If you want to modify the contents of the text element, you can do it as follows:
    TextObject oTextObject = new TextObject();
    Paragraphs oParagraphs = new Paragraphs();
    Paragraph oParagraph = new Paragraph();
    ParagraphElements oParagraphElements = new ParagraphElements();
    ParagraphTextElement oParagraphTextElement = new ParagraphTextElement();
    oParagraphTextElement.setText("This is the new text field");
    oParagraphTextElement.setKind(ParagraphElementKind.text);
    oReportClientDocument.getReportDefController().getReportObjectController().modify(textObject, oTextObject);
    oReportClientDocument.save();

  • PDF to Word black background in Text blocks

    I converted a pdf flyer to Word for editing date and location of an event. Three of the blocks of text that I wasn't going to change looked like  they were in text blocks with black backgrounds. I was unable to change the black blocks and had to do a color fill to cover the blocks. It was frustrating and not completely effective. Why did this happen? What is the resolution ? I anticipate converting many such flyers with new dates and times and I do not appreciate this glitch in the conversion process. What is my next step?

    Disabling OCR made no difference. Black boxes are still there. Though many of the pieces of the document can be ungrouped, the black boxes cannot - so they remain uneditable.
    Perhaps seeing what I am attempting to explain may help...
    First the Original, then the conversion.
    Above is the original.
    Below is the conversion:

  • IM - Recipient sometimes sees black block instead of text when I use Windows 7 High Contrast theme

    I use Lync client 2010 on 64 bit Windows 7. I like to use the Windows High Contrast Black theme. In Lync this sometimes causes an issue in that the person who I am sending messages to sees some of my messages as a black block/bar in their client (perhaps
    it could be black text on black background). In my client the message looks ok. Any ideas as to what I can do to resolve this would be appreciated as it is an inconvenience to have to switch to a non-high contrast theme every time I am having an IM conversation

    Hi,
    You can try to the following steps:
    Update Windows 7 and Lync 2010 client to the latest version.
    Try to use Lync 2013 client to have a test.

  • Dynamically passing text and url-based images as an input parameter to cf8 report builder

    I'm unsuccessfully trying to dynamically pass text and url-based images to a group footer or the detail section via an input parameter or even hardcoded. The field has the attribute 'XHTML Text Formating' set to True. The following are failed samples of a simplified value:
    "<img height=’300’ alt=’Document’ width=’300’ src=’http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo.gif’ />"
    or
    "<img src=’http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo.gif’ />"
    This just results in the above text being output. The end result would have various text and images from a database as input by a user, thus the reason I cannot just use the hyperlink information attribute as I could if it were a single known image. I tried rtf and pdf report types. Ideas?

    HTH,
    Thanks. I'll keep that in mind, although I don't know how many images my user might need or what sizes so that might be tricky.
    Since my target output is rtf so that MS Word can be used to edit the result, I added a pagebreak to a MS Word doc and used the resulting html source to replace the rich text editor source code for the page break, but that did not help either. The page break was so a user could add an image later. Something is wrong with the Report Builder related to intepreting XHTML, especially anything that has an attribute, including URL-based image links. I hope they try to provide another update before CF9. I doubt my client will be going to CF9 for some time, since they are just completing the migration to CF8.

  • Installing Java based Scenarios will effect old 3.0B reports in NW2004s ?

    Hi,
    Can anybody tell me whether Installing Java based Scenarios will effect old reports running in 3.0B.? or we will be just able to use the new features available after installing Java based scenarios and old queries/ web reports will remain same?
    Here I should mention that we are upgrading our BW environment from 3.0B to NW2004s.
    Please help me.
    regards,
    Jeet

    Hi Prakash,
    Thank you very much for your fast reply.I read the blog and it is a lot of very useful information. I have a couple of questions though:
    1. <u>Option 3 - Publishing Strategy within SAP NetWeaver 2004s BI</u> - is definately what we need:
    "End User Accesses
    &#56256;&#56452; Users will be assigned to Groups which have Roles in them
    &#56256;&#56452; Therefore, all users will see a tab in the portal navigation for their reports
    &#56256;&#56452; KM Navigation iView will be used to link KM Folder with Portal Role per Application Area
    &#56256;&#56452; Users will only have 1 access point: Portal Roles"
    So If I understood you correctly 1)I need to create Roles in Portal.
    2)Assign users to the Roles.
    3)Users will have only those roles assigned to them(for ex: sales manager role, AE role and so on)
    4)Publish my web quires to PCD and then role.
    So this part is clear.
    What I still don't understand is how to make the tree menu display in the Role that I will create? And with in the Role to have different folders (in a tree display view) that would have names (links) to differnet web reports (iviews that i will store and publish)? Is there an example with step by step for this?
    Is there an example of how to implement the Option 3?
    2. <b>Bookmarks</b> - as I understood by "I recommend using the shared BEx Portfolio KM Bookmarks instead of traditional bookmarks" you reffering to 'Save As' button on the run time of the report that lets you save to favorites, Myportfolio... I have no problem of using it but is there a way:
    1) bypass the selection screen when executing the saved KMbookmark? I tried saving it under the my favorites and when executing it brings me to the selection screen first (I could use variants for selection screen, so what is the use??!!)
    2)how can i send this saved bookmark by e-mail to a collegue? Is there a way? If not may be there are a new concept that we don't understand?
    Thank  you very much again.

  • Testing of Java-Based Webdynpro application in NWDS

    hi
    Hi
    I would like to test Java-Based webdynpro application in
    NWDS
    I am able to start and stop recording.
    But when press Start Replay Button.
    i am getting this error in the lower text area where messages area;
    <b>ERROR: Invalid Xml document received from the Xml Client. WindowId attribute is missing</b>
    pls replay ASAP
    Thanks
    Ravi Shankar

    Hi
      Ok now i get it. Well i guess i need to come out of mental block that WebDynpro for ABAP is not there :)..
    Well in that case it should work if you just record your test case.. What version of NDS are you using. It has worked for me.
    Create some inputfield and then deploy and test your application .. See if it runs.
    Then you right click on the application and say Record. It should run you through the screen. Once you are through stop the recording.
    The XML file can be viewed in the NWDS with the test data that you entered.
    regards
    Ravi

  • Extremely slow performance in comparison to RDC-based report

    Today our application uses the Crystal Reports RDC. In the last
    ten years we have made good experience with Crystal Reports.
    In the next few months we want to migrate our application to
    JAVA.
    Because the reports offer a great reuse-potential, we would like
    to implement them via CR4E.
    But during the first benchmark tests we made a very bad experience.
    Running (Printing) in CR4E the reports needed from 20 up to 480 percent
    more time in comparison to the RDC-based reports.
    When using POJOs need from 25 up to 570 percent more time.
    When printing the reports from within the CR2008 designer there is
    no performance difference.
    The reports have from 4 to 82 pages.
    We didn´t expect such a huge performance difference.
    Is CR4E in general slower than the RDC-based Crystal Reports?
    Or are there any parameters in CR4E in addition to the RDC-based
    solution for tuning the reports?
    Edited by: Rainer Graedtke on Nov 9, 2009 2:44 PM

    Hi Ted,
    thanks for the fast response.
    Is there another "datasource option" with better performance than POJO?
    In the upcoming JAVA-version of our application we would like to "feed"
    our reports from memory, not from the underlying database.
    One more statement concerning our performance problem:
    In our reports we make extensive use of subreports.
    Each report has the minimum of two subreports, one for the pageheader,
    one for the pagefooter.
    This is necessary because we have changing headers and footers
    depending on the contents of the details.
    The report with the largest performance loss contains 29 subreports!
    RDC-based it prints in 10 seconds, Java-based we need over 50 seconds.
    Is there any suggestion how to improve the performance of our reports in
    JAVA/CR4E other than reducing the number of subreports?
    Another question concerning the keycode-problem:
    We have designed the reports in the CR2008 Designer and we want to run
    them under CR4E. Is this a valid approach?

  • How can I use Server level variables in a business model based report

    hi gems..
    I have declared one server level variable in the BI Analytics repository.
    Now I have made one business model based report.
    In one column I want to use that server level varible.
    I go to the formula tab of that column and then clicked on variable--> session --> put the name of the variable and click ok.
    But when i viewed the report, it is not showing the dates, rather it is showing the date format I chosed i.e DD-MMM-YYYY.
    please help..

    actually the previous problem got resolved...
    Now when I am trying to apply a filter on a particular column using that server variable, then it is showing that the varible has no value definition.
    I have clicked on the filter tab of that column-->add-->variables-->session variables-->then I put the name of the variable-->click OK.
    the following error is comming-
    Error Codes: YQCO4T56:OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
    Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 23005] The repository variable, Variable_name, has no value definition. (HY000)
    I have made that server variable from manage-->variables-->(right click) create new initialisation block-->gave the name and wrote the query and aslo gave the connection pool name and test that and it worked fine..

  • I am having trouble printing cd inserts since i upgraded to iTunes 10.2.1.1, I get a black block where the artwork is supposed to print... help!

    Anyone have an answer for why since I upgraded to iTunes 10.2.1.1 I can no longer print artwork on my CD inserts - the text prints fine, but I get a black block of ink where the artwork should be...

    This problem disappeared with a later version BUT it has reappeared with 11.02.26 again. Maybe they put the old code back! This really is getting quite ridiculous where iterations are not fully tested before they are released. Very poor professionalism indeed.

  • SAP R/3 and JAVA based data base

    hi,
    I have two data base one is SAp r/3 and another is JAVA based.
    i need to link one table from Sap r/3 and one from JAVA based data base.
    using crystal reports how can i do this????
    thanks

    hi,
    in Crystal reports go to data base expert in the pop up link JAVA based data base using JDBC and connect SAp r/3 using SAP.
    You will be able to get SAp menue only if you are using crystal reports version 2008 or version 12.
    Once the connection is established select the tables you require and rest remains same.
    Thanks.
