  • Blackberry service in China using local sim card.

I have a Bold 9700 (unlocked) which I would like to use in China. I am hearing that it may be tough if not impossible to get a pre paid sim with voice and data capabilities. Is data just blackberry email and messaging or does it include GPS and Internet? Thanks.

    Hey there!
Greetings from China! I've got an unlocked Torch with me that I am using on China Unicom (pre-paid) for almost 2 weeks here now (Beijing). I actually did not procure the SIM myself for it...the hotel did it for me. They said that it actually is tough to get them now due to very recent new rules requiring all kinds of identification and deposits and such. But, the locals still know how to work around that, so someone from my hotel got it for me. I just had it topped up today as I used up all of my minutes...too bad since I'm leaving on Wednesday, but the cost is pretty much nothing. I only got voice and SMS service...didn't need full data services on that device as I also have my VZW Storm 2 with me with full international roaming, so I have it for that stuff. Just be sure to use WiFi whenever you can...the roaming charges are pretty steep. I was in China and Singapore much of August and my VZW bill was about $1,700. Should be less this time since I had the Torch for voice here. In addition to not worrying about purchase (since the hotel took care of that for me), I also didn't worry about configuring -- they did that as well and a friend who speaks Mandarin did my top up for me today. Yes, I am a bit spoiled by all of the help...but it does help a lot.
As for network, if you want data, do stick with China Unicom -- they have 3G while China Mobile only has 2G (EDGE). I can really tell the difference when my Storm grabs China Mobile instead of Unicom. I finally figured out to set my configuration to seek out only 3G and that keeps it on Unicom all the time now.
Sorry I can't be much more help -- I had help myself and that alleviated the burden on me. If you are staying in a 5-star hotel, seek out their assistance for sure. You can try looking at the airport on arrival...I tried but didn't see anything of use (plus was just so tired from the flight that all I wanted was to get to my hotel and crash). I've seen advertisements for a service (I think it's Panda something or other) that talks about pre-ordering a SIM and having it ready at your hotel, plus with easy top up service. I didn't use them and I'm not sure it would have worked with the new rules, but you could also check them out.
Good luck and enjoy China! Be sure to climb the great wall -- you must be a hero!

  • Receiving e-mail on Blackberry while in China - is there an additional roaming cost?

I have the unlimited data plan for my Blackberry and am travelling in China.  I thought that receiving e-mail would cost me $20/MB since I'm roaming, but a friend here believes that I can always receive e-mail on my Blackberry for no additional roaming cost.  Is this true, or will I get charged $20/MB to receive e-mail?
    Thanks.

Actually, you are both wrong.  You will need to change your data plan to the Global Blackberry plan for $64.99 per month and you will be able to get your emails while in China.

  • Blackberry Torch in China

    Hi All,
I am moving to China and am wondering if my daughter's blackberry torch will work on China mobile if I purchase a new sim card.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Joanne

Your daughter currently has a BlackBerry Torch 9800. I cannot confirm anything about China Mobile, but China supports:
    2G capabilities; GSM 900, GSM 1800
    3G capabilities; UMTS 2100

  • Blackberry help in China

    Dear Sir,
I've been using Blackberry for a year back in my Home country in Indonesia.
(the blackberry is bought in Indonesia) and it always worked fine for me
    despite minor problems.
Recently i've been relocated to mainland China due to work and I took the BB
    with me here in China.
I switched my GSM card to local SIM card "china mobile" and was planning on
using BB as "just" a normal phone anyway - having heard that BB is banned or
there are no BIS service in China - not sure which.
the problem is, there are a small white triangle on the top status bar.which
indicates roaming...I mean...how on earth could I be roaming if i'm using a
a local provider bought in the very same city i am living in?
and one more major problem is that I can send text messages back home but
    cannot receive a reply.
and I'm sure the people i knew back home sent me a reply because they
emailed me and told me they have sent me a reply.
Is there anything wrong with my BB?
can you help me and give me correct settings - if any.
so that I can use my BB even as a normal phone?
FYI the phone is already unlocked by the original provider when i bought it..
    Yours sincerely,
    Edwin

You're right that the white triangle indicates you're roaming, it's just that China Mobile is roaming. Why, I don't know, you'd have to ask them that.
For the SMS sending, first try a simple reboot: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • Error with payment in Appworld

    Device: Bold 9900
    Carrier: CMNET (China mobile)
Appworld doesn't let me buy things. Somehow credit cards registered in China are unacceptable, says "we cannot process your card" something, most blackberry users in China got such problem, error codes collected from them so far are 1100, 1200 and 1300, which we don't what the code refers to. Anyway, I tried paypal then, 'coz it always works, I bought things on amazon, crackberry before. And it turns out, with appworld, just CANNOT pay.
My card's comfirmed by paypal, I contacted their customer service according to whom my paypal account is fine, shouldn't be any problem buying things.
I got comfused, if so, then what's wrong? As far as I know, my case is not exception, it's quite typical around here actually. I don't care why you shut the credit card down, at least you should give a guide of how to make it right.
Also, can't find a contact for download/buy help, but I am looking for a solution and otherwise don't know where else to ask.
    Regards,
    Lexi

But now that I prefer to use BB + decided to go loyal to BB---I bought a Playbook? I cannot purchase any apps on BB APP WORLD. I get "credit card verification issue" ERROR 1200 I tried various credit card already but nothing happens Please advise me what to do? ---thanks! From: Mary (manila Philippines)
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
1200? Are you sure it's not 12000? If it is 12000, then this KB applies:
KB28978 "Error ID 12000" is encountered when attempting to complete a purchase on a BlackBerry device
For whatever reason (there's no way for anyone here to truly know "why"), the cards you've so far tried are not accepted. Please make sure that all credit cards attached to your AW account are valid...if one is invalid, then sometimes everything fails. If you have only one CC attached and have tried numerous cards yet it still does not work, you may need to shift to a non-CC method of payment (e.g., carrier billing or PayPal).
    Good luck!

My Handheld refused to be registered to the Network, even though my Phone Radio Signal is a Capital EDGE.
Am resident in Beijing, and was asked to Buy another Blackberry here in China, even though i have used same Blackberry and enjoyed all services in Nigeria before arriving Beijing.

  • Is the blackberry classic unlocked? and can I use it on China Mobile GSM if I visit China?

Two problems that bother me now. Can I buy an unlocked blackberry classic from Verizon? Can I use it on China Mobile GSM carrier if I could buy?
    thanks

We certainly hope that you don't need to worry about anything related to Verizon Wireless, wys515. The great news is that all of our LTE global-capable devices, such as the Blackberry Classic, are already unlocked and ready to use with a compatible local SIM without any extra steps from us. If you have an existing Verizon Wireless account for while you're in the U.S., you can make your purchase through http://bit.ly/nD0WuY. Otherwise, you may need to go through the manufacturer directly to purchase a phone without any ties to our services.

  • Blackberry Curve 8320 able to work in China?

    Hi everyone,
I am totally new to the Blackberry world and have no idea if this question is ridiculously stupid, stupid, moderately intelligent or ground-breaking (I doubt the latter).  Anyway, I was wondering if it were possible for a Blackberry Curve 8320 to actually work in China?  I plan to buy one from the US and use it in China and also later in Aus.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Benjamin

If you're using the GSM version of the blackberry you will be able to use it overseas. However, you will incur roaming charges and per message charges if I'm not mistaken. I have a supplier from Germany that travels to China and most of SE Asia a lot and he has no problems roaming. So long as the country you are going to has blackberry service (China does and so does Australia) you will be able to roam there. If you want to take advantage of cheaper local call rates, then you will need to unlock your phone so that you can insert a local SIM. Other thing to note is that some countries, I know here in Indonesia they do, have pre-paid blackberry service. I just don't know if that will work even with an unlocked phone because your PIN will still be locked to your service provider. Does anyone if the PIN can be easily transferred from one provider to another?

  • Facetime to China - does it work still ?

Following the latest upgrad to iOS 5.1.1, whilst here in Japan,  I have not been unable to communicate with my wife's iPad in China. We have separate ids and Facetime was the only usable way of Communicating, SkyPe was incredibly slow & cut-out often.... now (as of the past week, Facetime has stopped working). The only, change that has been made was that I upgraded to iOS 5.1.1.... nothing else changed
    * 1 ... Have Facetime been blocked in China - as SkyPe used to be before being "Chinatised" ?
    * 2 ... is anyone able to communicate to iPads in China , and which version of iOS are you using ?
    * 3 ... does iOS 5.1.1 stop communications to China ?
*4 .. if you're using an iPad wirelesss version how can you confirm Facetime still works . SkyPe has a Server test, but Facetime doesnt
*5 ... Are there any tools out there to test Facetime connectivity without facetime
*6 .. Does Facetime on the Windows PC exist ?
    Any suggestions ?
PS. I'm slightly above basic user, so please assume I know sometime or can at least google something, when you reply... also assume I've tried most on google.....

  • Activating BIS service in china! Help!

I am hoping someone can fill me in with the general info needed to activate BIS service.
I just moved to shanghai and went to get my BB activated with a service plan. I was told to get a sim with a data plan first then sign up the BIS service online. I did what I was told but after 3 hours (that's how long they said it would take to work), it wasn't activated with BIS. I called CS. They said they already did what they were supposed to do, which was to activate APN. The only reason they could think of was that my IMSI# wasn't provided to the BIS group. Long story short, I got the ImSI, called BIS group and provided the info. After they fiddle around with it, they said it should work...obviously, it doesn't! They asked me to call CS again to double check if ApN was activated and it is.
Now they are investigating as to why it isn't working. I don't think thy have the slightest idea why it doesn't. I want to use my BB so if you guys have any suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it!
A little additional info: my BB worked when I was in hong kong. I manually input the APN setting in my berry. I also tried to register the Host Routing Table and it's still empty.

    shogun308 wrote:
My unit is not being sold in china at the moment. I will worry about that later once I can get on BIS.
That's actually my point. If the carrier does not directly support the specific model number of BB, then their system may not deliver to the BB the required Service Books in order for BIS to function. I have no way to know if your new carrier falls into this category or not.
    shogun308 wrote:
I used a PayGo plan while I was in hong kong. last I checked in hong kong, BIS wasn't active since I only purchased 1 mth of BIS service. However, the sim card/account still had credits on it so I could make phone calls. Would that be a problem? If so, how do I unregister it? Is this something I could do personally via RIM website or RIM tech support? Or is it something china Unicom can handle.
If this is causal (I cannot know for sure), then the place to accomplish the un-registring is the carrier that has it registered. RIM can do nothing since the carrier controls their own systems.
Before proceeding, please try this, with your new carriers SIM installed in the BB, and please first test that you can correctly use all of your voice-level services before doing the below steps:
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for an "Activation" or "Registration" message to arrive on your BB...there should be just one.
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for one "activation" message for each configured email account (if any) to arrive on your BB.
If there are Service Books left over from your prior carrier, you may have to manually delete them. Sorry, I can't guide you in any greater detail as I've no idea what their SB's might look like...but, if you delete all SB's, then resending them should generate new and proper SBs from your new carrier.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Mobile network symbol displays Chinese characters whilst in China instead of English

The network carrier symbol in the status area displays in Chinese characters instead of English whilst travelling in China so that I have to go to the settings to see which carrier is selected. The phone is set to English in the region format and I have never had this on my previous Blackberry. Is it a setting or a firmware issue?

Yup, only if your iOS device is set to English. Then yes, good Pinyin (and even some English!) shows up. I guess my only complaint now (in English) is that you really have to zoom in to see the smaller streets compared to how Google Maps showed them.
The Hanzi is still an issue, though, in at least some other languages. I prefer English but some others in my household prefer Spanish, and when the language is set to Spanish, Hanzi shows up everywhere.
