Blank Blu-Ray (BD) insert default action

How can I change the default action when I insert a blank Blu-Ray? I have been authoring with Adobe Encore CS5 but every time I try to burn multiple copies of the same image, I get an error because the OS wants to take over when I close the drive. At first I said "Ignore" and make default action but the dialog continued to appear each time. Then I told it to launch Encore but I still see the dialog appear momentarily and then the process of burning multiple disks is interrupted. I don't see the options for BD default actions as I see for CD/DVD in System Preferences. Any Ideas?

I'd like to try changing this to launch Toast - how can it be done now that it has decided to launch Encore by default?

  • Premiere Elements 12 does not recognize blank Blu-ray disc.

I just upgraded from Premiere Elements 8 to PRE12.  Now when I insert a blank Blu-ray disc in the BR burner, I get a message "Media Not Present".  It does recognize the burner, but not the blank disc.  Yet when I open PRE 8, PRE 8 does recognize this very same disc in the same burner!  Also, PRE 12 can burn a blank DVD in this same burner.  The Blu-ray disc also appears as a completely blank in Windows File Explorer.  And this is a problem even after updating to release 12.1.  The Adobe chat representative tells me this is a know issue with PRE12.    I find that difficult to accept, since why would Adobe change in PRE 12 something that was not broken? What's the truth, and when and how can it be fixed?

First, I tried uninstalling, register cleaning and reinstalling Premiere Elements.  This was a mess.  I kept getting error messages when trying to reinstall.  So I had to do a system restore to just before I uninstalled PRE.  After that restore, PRE would not open.  So I did another uninstall from Control Panel and reinstall, without touching the registry.  Then, I was back in operation, several frustrating hours later. But still the BR drive would not recognize Blu-ray discs.
So then I loaded a BR-RE disc, instead of a BR-R, and still no recognition.
Then I installed the external Blu-ray burner, and finally PRE12 recognized the blank Blu-ray disc.  I had a sign that this would work when I attached an external DVD drive to burn a AVCHD file, and PRE12 recognized the blank media, whereas it did not recognize any blank DVDs in the internal BR drive for burning AVCHD files.  As a alternative to borrowing an external BR drive to see if this fixes the Media not Present message, I suggest using a much more readily available external DVD drive and try to burn a AVCHD file first.  If that works, then one can be much more confident that purchasing an external Blu-ray drive will provide the solution.
Yet I deeply resent having to purchase a $125 piece of hardware, which is otherwise useless to me, to fix a bug in a program.  The box promises the ability to export a Blu-ray disc.  Since their lawyers use the weasel word "compatible" Blu-ray burner required, I fully expect them to take the position that now only an external burner is "compatible", and do nothing to fix the compatibility with internal burners.  Potential buyers be forewarned!
As an alternative to paying more money to make their software work as indicted on the box, one might want to settle for only being able to write AVCHD files to a DVD.  Most every computer (except Ultrabooks) has an internal DVD burner, which supposedly all that would be needed to burn this kind of HD file.  But first, we all need to know, will PRE12 return a Media not Present message when burning a AVCHD file to an internal DVD burner?  What are the field reports of any problems incurred doing this procedure?  Please advise.
And one more question.  When I burn an AVCHD file to a DVD, the DVD is not finalizied by PRE12.  After burning the AVCHD file, the DVD shows free space available, but after burning a DVD Video, there is no free space available.  Moreover, ImgBurn does finalize DVDs after burning AVCHD files to them.  So Is this failure by PRE12 to finalize another bug?  Can ImgBurn now finalize an unfinalizied AVCHD disc left by PRE12 -- without having to run another session of PRE to burn to a folder now, of course?  If so, how?

  • Best way to copy FCP-created Blu-ray Disc?

Tried using FCP7 to burn another copy of a Blu-ray disc a week after I burned the first copy. But since I didn't want to wait 16 hours for FCP to encode the Blu-ray files again, I copied the files off the first Blu-ray Disc I'd burned onto my desktop. Then, I inserted a blank Blu-ray Disc into my external burner and copied the desktop files onto it.
The new disc burned with those files ... but when I play it back in my Blu-ray player, there's no audio. Any ideas??

Try making a disk image from your original disc, then burning from that.
    1. Insert your disc and launch Disk Utility.
    2. Select your optical drive in Disk Utility.
    3. Choose File > New > Disk Image from<disk name>.
    4. Choose DVD/CD Master, press OK, and wait.
    5. Select your new image on the left, then press Burn in the toolbar.
Not sure if this process has changed for Blu-ray but I suspect not. The disk format for DVD and Blu-ray is UDF (not FAT32 or HFS+ which you get from a standard Finder burn).

  • Media Smart DVD, not that smart.... Will only play some blu ray, not all.

When I get a computer with a blu ray player I expect it to play blu ray discs... all of them. It works with some but not all.
The discs it does not work with, what happens is it will ask me "Do you want to check for updates" and there will be a box to check yes or no. In the background it will say disc is ready to be played, just push play. Easy right? HECK NO.
If you check yes, it will do the little wait symbol and process the request checking for updates, then come right back and ask you again, a never ending circle of asking to check for updates. If you push NO, it will go away, then you have a couple options, one is open up the menu and see if there is actually an update... nope. no update there. the other option is do what it says and push play since it thinks the blu ray is ready to play. Once I push play it starts to think and pops up that "Do you want to check for updates" again. It is so frustrating. HEY HP, FIX THIS DUMB CIRCULAR TRAP THAT WONT LET ME WATCH BLU RAY.
And this is a major motion picture blu ray disc from block buster video. Not some copied random disc. So, I know it aint the disc.

I am running into this same issue. I have a HPE-180t with a BD-RE BH20L Blu-Ray drive. I put in 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World' and got a message that asked if i wanted to update, to which I clicked 'NO' and then after about 5 sec of it seaching the drive it replied with "Format Not Supported". I ejected and reinserted a few times and tried another Blu-Ray movie (also The Expendables) and it gave me the same message.
I searched the internet and found a forum message with steps to uninstall the DVD portion of MediaSmart and reinstall using Recovery Manager, but after the uninstall now Recovery Manager will not open to reinstall HP MediaSmart DVD.
I then attempted a Windows System Restore to a few days prior, which went through the motions, but then had a failed message upon reboot.
I then ran the HP Support Assistant > Troubleshoot > Utilities> Storage Devices> Optical Drives and ran the test on the BH20L drive which failed in recognizing any Blu-Ray media (movie or blank BD-R). I had just used this drive a week ago to archive some photos onto the blank Blu-Ray media mentioned without issue.
Please help HP, this is really a nuisance for this seriously robust machine.
[edit]...Also I went out to the website for my system looking for any updates and the only one I installed was a BIOS update dated November 2010.

  • Do iMac (Intel) play blu-ray discs?

before I back-up stuff from my DVD recorder onto blu-ray discs, will they play on my new iMac (Intel) ?
Also, given the comparative lack of availability of blank blu-ray discs, does this mean people are favouring other means to back up material they wish to archive on their DVD recorders; and if so, can someone recommend them (specifically for Panasonic DVD recorders) ?

Apple does not make an Apple-branded BluRay player, but just about any USB BluRay Player will work on a Mac. It will plug and play. All drivers are already included with Mac OS/X.
Apple's DVD Player software does not work with BluRay, so you will need a third party app to use as a player.
Here is a good article from MacWorld which covers some good options.

    Hello,
I tried to create a blu-ray disc witj Fonal Cut Pro 7 (menu Share) and with Final Cut Pro X Trial (menu Share), but both the times after a certain period of processing (about an and a half) an error message appears, QuickTime Error:0
Has anyone experienced such a problem, I can't burn a Blu-Ray disc with my bramd new HD drive and it seems that Final Cut Pro has a problem? Before buying Final Cut Pro X ...

  • FCStudio 7 - Burning to Blu Ray problems

I edit with FCS 7 and trying to burn to Blu Ray, however i keep getting a message 'internal file error, Qmaster file not found'?? Should be simple as 'file' then 'share' but not happening!! Its recognising the blu ray burner but wont let me 'share'. Any one know what the settings have to be????

I remember one thing , if you use Share with a QuickCluster you will receive a message like Video file from QMaster cant be found.
This is a bug from day one with Final Cut Studio 3, so if you need fast compression for Blu-Ray and dont have Matrox Compress HD you must export a Self Contain QuickTime file and bring-it in Compressor with a Blu-Ray Template and Job Action to burn a Blu-Ray.
Be carefull about Matrox Compress HD since for now this card remove the Chapters Markers with the actual drivers but it is a real time option best used with Toast 10 to bring back Chapters Markers even if it is at specific fix intervals.

  • Low Rez Menus on my Blu Ray Disc... Help Please?

Hello everyone.  I just created my first blu ray DVD and the everything is great and works as it should but the resolution of the menus are horrible.  My project is full HD at 1920 x 1080.  The menu background and buttons are actually blurry!  I use Windows 7 by the way.  Any ideas on what I did wrong?  Are there special HD menus that I should have selected from?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bob

OK.. guess what?  I picked an HD menu this time confident that I just messed up the first go around and I burn my blu ray disc, second one now, and my menus are a little bit better but are still BAD!  I then did a bit of research on the web and learn that I'm not the only one with this problem and apparently this has been a problem with PE7,8,9 and now 10!  Have a look at this thread:  http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71706
My video is excellent but my menus are blurry.
Wow.... not good.  Can anyone point me to a work around or a fix to this problem?  Again, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.  The menu that I used was the Pan and Zoom under Slideshows, I changed the background image to a 1920 x 1080 image, I added music, and I changed the color, siz and location of some of the text.
I guess my next test is to use a stock HD menu with no changes and see if I get an HD menu but every time a run a "Test" I use up a blank blu ray disc.  This could get expensive.
Again, any help would be appreciated.

  • Problems Creating a Blu-ray Disc with a Main (Static) Menu and Pop-up Menus

I'm having problems creating a simple Blu-ray disc containing a Main Menu (Static Menu with a graphic for my background) and a single Pop-up menu assigned to all of my timelines.  I wouldn't think this would be so hard to create but every attempt I've made ends up with the navigation getting all messed up to the point that my Playstation 3 doesn't even recognize that the disc as being Blu-rey disc.
I want a simply static Main menu containing a "Play all" Button, and a button for each additional timelines.  Im also using the override commands on my buttons so if someone just chooses to see one specific clip from the main menu, they will be taken back to the main Menu after their selected clip plays.  But then I also want a Pop-up menu assigned to the timelines so the viewer can switch to a different clip (timeline) without having to go back to the Main (static) menu.
My Blu-ray Disc runs just fine if I only use a static menu in a project, or if I only use a single Pop-up menu assigned to each timeline, but not both a Static Main menu, and pop-up menus.  I'm using CS4
    Thanks.

  • Twonkey media server unable to read mp4 files created by new version of Leawo Blu Ray Ripper

For the past week I have been ripping DVDs with a new version (v7.3.0.3) of Leawo Blu Ray Ripper.  The Twonkey media server (v7.2.9-1) on my WD4100DL will not read the newer files compared to movies ripped with the old version (v7.2.1.4).  My Roku media server does just fine.  Is there an upgrade of the Twonkey media server available?
    Thanks for any advice.

I think that Leawo has helped me to solve the problem.  The MP4 files that I made using the old version of Blu-Ray Ripper apparently defaulted to H.264 video codec for MP4 files.  Twonky is able to read those files. The new version (7.3.0.3) of Leawo Blu-Ray Ripper defaulted to MPEG4 video codec.  Twonkey cannot read those MP4 files.  I have changed the video codec to H.264 in Blu-Ray Ripper and I am in the process of ripping a DVD now.  I will post the result.

  • FCP7: Share to Blu-Ray

    Hi guys,
    I use FCP7 and when I need to create a blu-ray I make a click on "Share", and then "Blu-ray". Blu-ray is a default setup in FCP7.
    But this default setup create a 720p blu-ray, not a full HD 1080 blu-ray.
Can anyone suggest how create a Full HD blu-ray, please?

We see this same question several times a week so try searching the forum for some helpful suggestions. Most of us end up going to Adobe Encore or Toast on the Macintosh. Both require a Mac-compatible BD burner. The easier route is to locate a service that offers an Adobe CS4 package on a PC with an experienced BD authoring expert.

  • Blu Ray burner issues with Toast

I am trying to hook up a Pioneer BDR-206 to my iMac so I can burn HD movies to Blu Ray.  I'm new to Mac so pretty much everything I do is a learning process.  I used iMovie to edit the AVCHD files and then exported them.  I am using Toast 11 Titanium to burn the movies.  Toast seems to encode the movies just fine.  But when it starts to burn them I get a hardware error and Toast crashes.  I have tried changing the burn speed and made sure the buffer underrun was checked.  It crashes at different intervals.  I even was able to get one of the Toast discs to completely finish but then the disc wouldn't play in my Blu Ray player.  The menu showed up but the videos wouldn't load.  I have tried all of Toasts support suggestions but none of it works. I'm hoping someone out there knows more than the tecs at Toast.  Otherwise, I'm toast.  I've wasted about $25.00 in blank Blu Ray discs already.  The error code i get is:
The drive reported an error:  Sense Key=Hardware error Sense Code= 0x08, 0x01 Logical Unit Communication Time out
I forgot to mention that I am using the BDR-206 in an enclosure with USB2 connection to iMac.  The iMac is new with the iCore5 processor.

Hi, welcome to the forums & Macdom!

  • Blu-ray image build fails with LPCM error

    hello,
    Using CS6 Encore
    I have created H.264 files (.264, .264.Stereo1) for a 1:04hr sequence using Matrox
    - 1920x1080p 23.98fps
    - both 27.0 and 30.0 target data rate, Constant Bit Rate CABAC, H.264 level of 4.1
and when I try to build a Bluray image using them, the build fails with the message:
Error: "invalid format", Code: "14", Note: "Bits per Sample of LPCM is illegal. 32"
I first got this error using target data rate of 30 (default) - then I dropped it to 27.0 and still got the error.
I then tested with a 1min H.264 file created using the same above settings and the image was successfully created.
In CS5.5, when I had similar errors, I dropped the target data rate to 27.0/27.1 and the build would complete without errors.
I can't find any discussion of the above error on the web or on these forums - perhaps my search terms were not good.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I was able to successfully build another 1hr blu-ray image with default settings (target data rate 30) a few days back.
In both successful and unsuccessful cases, the source sequence is a 1920x1080i 29.97fps Matrox AVI file, which I convert to 1920x1080p 23.98 fps in AME using Matrox to create the .264/.264.Stereo1 files, which I then import into CS6 Encore and create the image.
Encore CS5.5 was a pain in that it would hang on source files larger than 2GB - I came across a Adobe forum/support thread suggesting using the workaround of importing to the Encore timeline files <= 2GB in size.

  • No Blue-Ray on QuickPlay, Stuck in Update Loop

I have not been able to play blue-ray disks for some time on my Pavilion d5v-1017ns but I have not been actively working on the problem till now. The blue-ray player worked fine till I updated the Vista 64 bit media center software from Microsoft. Recently I updated all my laptop software using the latest HP assistant, checked the hardware (Blue ray disk reads OK) and I turned off my Norton Security Suite but the symptoms are the same. The symptoms are as follows:
“Inception” Blue-ray disk inserted starts HP QuickPlay. QuickPlay says “Loading” then a popup says “A component of the player requires periodic updates. Would you like to check for an update now?” If I say “YES” the screen blinks, the player says “Loading” and it happens all again. If I say “NO” nothing happens till I press play then it goes into that loop again. I have HP QuickPlay version 3.7(6310). If I manually update the HP QuickPlay software I get the same thing.

    @ LT4747
You may post where ever you like, as a matter of fact it's probably better that you post in a thread with a similar problem.
What was the Blu-ray movie you were trying to play and can now play ?
To get the thing to stop prompting for an update, go to the control panel and find "Auto Play" and make sure that Quick Play is chosen for Blu-ray play back. If you have to change this, remember to save the change. If you made the change, shut the laptop right down and boot up, do not use restart.
Use the eject button on the side of the drawer and let the movie load automatically, you may get the prompt again, but it should load and after that it should stop altogether the next time you play a movie.
This works most of the time, but not always, sometimes a BIOS update is needed, but if you can play your movie, don't touch it, leave it alone.
Quick Play is an old program that HP (Cyberlink) replaced with Media Smart DVD, personally I have given up on it and I have people use Media Smart. The reason for this is that no matter what I did many of the newer Blu-ray's would not play with QP. The fact that you got your movie to play with it is a surprise, so that means that Cyberlink does update it, but I know it takes then forever to do so.
Think about though, it's an old program that was developed for HP that HP doesn't use anymore, so it more then likely is the last thing that gets any attention, it's a wonder that they still bother with it.
Just to note that if you were to use Media Smart DVD your Quick Play button on your hot-key strip would not work anymore. You would have to create desk top Icon or something to open it.
