Blank Records added while using Table maintenance generator - SM30

Hi all,
I have created a ztable and view,
For the view table maintenance generator created using sm30,
First time when i add reords, a blank record is added automatically ,how to prevent it,
Also when i try to add invalid data, system throws error , field becomes display only.
How to solve.

Hi Tarun,
Go to the layout and increase the size of the Screen. or at the screen attributes change the length and width values.
You know that initially the screen occupies default size only.
Hope this would serve your purpose.

Hi,
I am getting below error while creating table maintenance generator.
Screen SAPLZtest 0002 could not be generated. In DYNPFIELD_ATTR field LENGTH has the invalid value 241.
Reason for that error might be:
In the table I have a field with a dataelement(customized) of type Char and length 241.
But in the other table Iam using the standard data element(standard) of same type(241 char).In this table Iam able to create table maintenance generator without any errors.
And the domain Iam using is same for both the tables.
Please help me to solve this.

Button "Position" can't work in sm30 when use Table maintenance generator

Hello guys,
i have created a table and use 'Table Maintenance Generator' to generate the code. When i run sm30 and click the button 'Position', it can not work.
i enter '/h' to debug it and find the value'POSI' is not assigned to ok_code.
Some tables created before are OK. What's the matter with it?

there is very possibility that some inconsistency might be occured while generating table maintenance generator. So i would advice u to create ur table maintenance generator once more after deleting the current one.

Update info while using Table Maintenance

Hi All,
I have requirement to update user info and date & time in custom table whoever using Table Maintenance.
ie.
My requirement is if any user updating any table [SAP standard or Custom table] using table maintenance, then
i need to update the user name, date and time into custom table.
Can anbody suggest a solution for this.

Hi,
Try this solution...This might work for custom tables..
Create a new report program..
Take the table name as a parameter..
Then get all the contents from the table and store it in a internal table..
Then call the transaction SM30 with the table name..
Once they update the table and save..The control will come back to the report program...
Then again get the values from the custom table..
Compare the values..If there is any change...Then update your custom table with the user info..

Problem while creating table maintenance generator using two step

Hello All,
I have created a Z table in which I have 7 fields, out of which 6 are character fields and 7th field is of type INT4
Now when I create the maintenance generator using TWO STEP approach, the 7th field i.e., of type INT4 is not available in the first screen (the table control screen). This screen only has 6 fields for display.
But when I click NEW ENTRIES button, I get the next screen which has all the 7 fields.
But if I create the maintenance generator using SINGLE STEP, all 7 fields are displayed in the first screen.
Please suggest. Let me know if you require some more explaination.

Hi Pavan,
The purpose of table maintainence generator is to enable the table maintenance through SM30, and to implement and validation etc on table field inputs.
SE11->Utillities->table maintainence generator
You need to enter the values of following fields:
1. Table name
2. Authorization group , and authorization object (select the suitable one )
3. Function group and package
4. Maintainence type : single or double screen maintainence view depending on the option selected.
5. Maintain screen number : you may specify a value or let the system generate one for you.
The validation code for the table entry is written in the flow logic of this screen. Even some of the fields may be made display only , by adding suitable code in the logic or directly disabling the input in table control in the layout.
Table maintanance is for creating,adding datas to an existing table.
it is for adding muiltiple records at a time in the table
A table can be manipulated by a program or manually.
When creating table, you will find a check box 'Table maintenance allowed'. If we
check that option, we can manually enter entries using SE16 or table
maintenance generator screen.
SE16 is for data browser.
Go to SE11, give the table name and click on change. Then Go to utilities--> Table
maintenance generator.
In the table maintenance generator screen, we should give Authorization Group,
Function Group name (Function Group name can be same as table name),
Maintenance type can be one step or two step, usually we will create with one
step. we should give maintenance screen number. After clicking on create button,
a table maintenance generator will be created.
To check it go to SM30 . In SM30, we find display, Maintain options.
We can view the table contents by choosing Display and we can create table
entries by choosing Maintain.
In the production system, end-users will not be having access to transaction
codes like SE11 and SE16. Developers will not be having access to many
transaction codes including the above two.
To view the contents of the database table, we will use SE16n in Production
system. Please find out the difference between SE16 and SE16n.
All these authorizations will be maintained by BASIS team, by creating access
profiles.
So in order to edit or create the contents of a database table, we should go for
table maintenance generator. In real time, authorizations will be maintained in
production system. (even in development and Test systems to some extent).
There is an audit like Sarbanes-Oxley Act for American clients, where every thing
will be audited by government agency. To know more about SOX, use the links on
the right hand side of this page.
The second reason is, we can edit or create multiple entries at a time, using table
maintenance generator.
Apart from that we have options like 'Enter conditions' in table maintenance

One step, two step in Table Maintenance Generator
Single step: Only overview screen is created i.e. the Table Maintenance Program will have only one screen where you can add, delete or edit records.
Two step: Two screens namely the overview screen and Single screen are created. The user can see the key fields in the first screen and can further go on to edit further details.

i have one scenario . supppose there are 4 fields in a table. user enters data into it using table maintenance generator. he enters data only for 2 fields remaining 2 fields should get populated automatically.
is it possible?

Go to SE11->Table Maintenance generator -> Environment->Modification-> Events
Here you can define events and the form routines that will be invoked on that particular event.
Say for example you want to populate details for the user who created the records, define the form FRM_CR_DATE (any form routine name) for populating the Create Details using event 05.
Event 05 is fired for "Creating a new entry".
Click on the EDITOR Button and write the following code for saving the user details while creating a new record.
*       FORM FRM_CR_DATE                                              *
form frm_cr_date .
ztablename-created_by      = sy-uname .
ztablename-created_on      = sy-datum .
ztablename-create_time     = sy-uzeit.
endform .
The current username, system date and time will be moved to the table work area for each record created.

1. why we have to give a function group name while creating table maintenance generator for a ztable.
2. while creating tmg we have to check one of the radio button under recording routine. wht does recording routine means?

Function Group - this will create a default main program where you can store the
events for the table maintainence.( where you can write the code for the table
maitainece)
standard recording - when the changes in the table maitainence automatically it will create request for the data to transport.
no recording - this will not create request(when you don't require the data in
Development server to transported to testing or Testing - to -Production.
atthat time you can select the radio button foe NO RECORDING.

Problem with table maintenance generator overview screen

I added a field in a custom table and then used table maintenance generator to regenerate the table maintenance screen.
I used 2 step to generate. The problem that I have is the field not displayed in the overview screen though it is visible in the single screen ( ie the second screen).
I am not sure where the problem is as the field is not visible at all in the table control of overview screen.
Please help me on this as to what could be the problem.

Usually it is enough to regenerate both screens and the modules, but sometimes it doesn't pick up all the changes. In that case just delete the maintenance dialog and recreate it. That should do it.

Table maintenance generator : EVENTS : please help me

I need to use table maintenance generator to maintain a custom table through a custom transaction.
I am using event BEFORE SAVE (01). It is working fine but small issues.
1)After entering new entries for some fields(KEY FIELDS), when I press save button, remaining fields values to be populated. Seletion statements have written in FORM of the EVENT 01 (BEFORE SAVE).
But the values for remaining fieldsare not populating immediately and but populating when I press BACK (F3). My requirement is with out presssing BACK or F3 , fields to be populated.
(note: SAP internal code..values are coming into TOTAL structure..then I manipulated this internal table)
PLEASE GUIDE ME, WHICH EVENT TO BE USED. importantly, which internal table/structure (like TOTAL we used for this requirement ) to be used for the proposed new EVENT? (Because lot of R&D to be done to find SAP structure)
2) second requirement is: even after entering new entries, if we press ENTER, then also it should behave like SAVE like in the previous requirement. Please help me to find the EVENT and Internal SAP generated structure (like TOTAL we used for this requirement ).

I used event 05: When creating a new entry. I want to know the custom logic by which my 2nd Internal table gets automatically updated when i update my 1st Internal table

There is a delete button in Table Maintenance Generator. Click it. Select all the Options and click Delete.

How to forbid some deletes in table maintenance generator

Hey gurus,
I'm using table maintenance generator on my table and I would like to achieve that I could check whether to allow or not allow the delete action.
In other words I would like to forbid to delete those entries, which are referenced in some other tables, but I have no idea how to do it. I don't know where in the code is the Delete button is handled, or what to write in the right event to achieve my goal.
Can you tell me how. In details would be the best Thank you very much.

Did you add some foreign key relation between the maintained table and the dependant one, not a bad idea to add some...
You can also use Event 03: Before Deleting the Display Data create a form in your dialog. (Look for samples with search tool, e.g. Thomas's answer at thread event 03 in table maintenance generator)

My Z table have three fields say.. NEW status, old status and flag.
I have to dispaly the records of the Z table in Matrix format.

Hi,
Go through Following Menu Path
Tcode SE11-> Table Name-> Change.
Utilities-> Table Maintance Generator->Create Maintance.
On Same Screen go to Menu Environment->Modification->Events
Create New Event e.g. 05 , Enter Form Routine Name.
Go to Editor.
and Put Your Logic
e.g.
FORM FILL_DEFAULT.
* Actual Logic for how to get materials list.
ENDFORM.

Dear Abapers,
While creating billing and saving a billing document, a number range is automatically generated.
I have found that this number range is coming from a table and they have written some coding in Table maintenance generator.
How can i find that where it is implemented in VF01.
PLease resolve it.

Hi,
go to the table maintenance generator of your table.
Go to the path Environment -> Modification -> Events
They might have written some events to auto generate the number
