Blinking horizontal cursor after BIOS screen during boot process

I have a brand new FM2-A75MA-E35 motherboard and installed it without issue. I am currently experiencing a problem where when I turn on the computer, the MSI BIOS screen appears and then goes to a horizontal blinking cursor in the top left of the screen.
The problem occurred after the following happened: while the computer was running, I opened the case to check the CPU fan - a (unknown) wire shifted, touched something on the motherboard (corner of the motherboard near the memory) and the computer shut off a few moments later. There are no beeps, no error information when booting the computer. I can access the BIOS settings, change settings, navigate through the menus, the BIOS recognizes the SATA hard drive and Blu-Ray player connected to the motherboard, USB devices connected, etc. The BIOS screen does not display the temperature for the CPU or Mainboard System.
I'm unsure what to do next to tell if the board is damaged or I can get this back to a working state.
Processor: AMD A6-6400K, 3.9 GHz
BIOS Version: E7721AMS V2.2

  • G580 (2189) Stuck on Splash Screen during Boot process

Recently my G580 (2189) hangs on Boot.  Get the spash screen and pressing F2 or F12 does nothing.  Have to keep power cycling the laptop up to 10 times before the boot process succeeds and loads windows.
    Running Win7 Professional on G580 (2189) laptop.
Problem only recently started in the past couple of months after a series of Windows updates were installed.
    Disk Check reports no errors.
I have read this is a BIOS issue.  I have tried changing BIOS to EFI instead of UEFI, but the intermittent problem persists.  No updates to my BIOS are available through Lenovo, and I have found no insight when searching the forums.  I have found numerous people with the exact same problem, but what I read is that a new motherboard is called for from the people who have contacted Tech Support.  I have tried the battery removal, power button 30 seconds, etc. but it does nothing to fix the problem.
Everything worked perfectly up until about 2 months ago.  Never an issue.  Now my laptop stall on boot, and one stop doesn't even work when the spash screen is stuck and windows does not load.
Anyone know of the "cause" of the problem?  Is it truely a BIOS issue?
Any suggestions as to a solution.  Laptop only recently went out of warranty, and I find it bizzare that it won't even boot.  if it is a BIOS issue, I am guessing reinstalling Win7 Pro won't help.

Follow the below mentioned steps to resolve the issue:
Check if there are any external devices connected to the computer, if yes remove them and restart the system to check if the issue occurs.
    Perform Startup Repair:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/startup-repair
If the issue persists, then start the system in safe mode with networking and check if the Windows load successfully.
    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mf...
If it works fine in safe mode try performing a clean boot to find the root cause.
To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • Re: Satellite Pro A200 - Screen goes black after BIOS screen

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have quite a big problem. So any help is welcome and appreciated.
My Satellite Pro A200 goes black after the BIOS screen and a black screen with a blinking cursor. Also just before the screen goes black a bleep can be heard which shows windows is booting.
I can access the toshiba set-up screen but not the safety mode set-up.
    Kind Regards

    Hello
You wrote that you can access the BIOS but have you checked if the HDD is recognized properly? Maybe the computer cannot boot because HDD isnt recognized so you should check this.
If the HDD is recognized I would try a recovery installation from Toshiba recovery disk. It seems that Windows isnt able to start and if you reinstall the whole system it should help to get rid of this. Just go in boot menu and select CD/DVD drive as boot device.
    Check this!!!

  • X58 Pro BIOS Crash during Boot

    Hi All,
I have recently assembled a system with X58 Pro board and Core i7 920. It was working fine for 3 months except that it started having BIOS crashes since last night. The issue is that the mainbaord lights would be on without the POST screen and within few seconds the system resets automatically. The same procedure happens for about 4-6 cycles and on the 7th cycle i get a message on screen saying the previous overclocking has failed and the BIOS is reset to default settings. Post then the system boots up normal and works just fine. But once the system is shut down and when the system is switched on(cold boot) I get the same problem. I have also noticed that a month back the CPU clock had jumped from default 2.66 to 2.67 automatically without any overclocking and just couple of weeks after that the clock rose up to 2.87. It has remained like that until the BIOS crash issue. All these happened without any manual overclocking.  I was wondering how can this happen automatically unless the clock speeds are adjusted manually. That was quiet strange though. Neways after this issue(BIOS Crash) popped up the clock speed is back to 2.67 than the default 2.66. Weird again. The BIOS version is the default one(V7.0) that was shipped with the mainboard. I tried to M-Flash the BIOS to V7.3(after reading couple of postings from the forum) but without success. The same problem still persists. I have done the following things after going through the forums regarding the issue.
    1. Cleared CMOS using the clear CMOS button(With power chord unplugged)
    2. Tried M-Flashing to V7.3 (Not sure whether the BIOS was updated during the process)
I kindly request all of you so provide some solutions so as to get my system back to normalcy. Your worthwhile suggestions would be really appreciated. The system config is mentioned below
    Core i7 920 @ 2.66 GHz
    MSI X 58 Pro - BIOS Version 7.0
    Corsair 6 GB(3 x 2 Gigs) DDR3 @ 1066 MHz (installed on the black slots currently)
    EVGA GeForce GTX 295 1.7 GB GDDR3
    Tagan 1100 W PSU
    2 x 1 TB Seagate Sata HDD @ 7200 RPM w 32 MB cache
    Sony Optiarc DVD-RW Drive
    Windows XP 64Bit SP2
Looking forward for some positive solutions

    Hey NovJoe,
Thanks a lot for your reply. I have done as per your suggestion and the system works fine now. Pretty interesting though. During the individual RAM tests i did not face any BIOS crashes and i thought the MOBO DIMM SLOTS would be faulty. So i installed the second RAM strip on the second slot worked fine and finally the third one and works fine too. I am really wondering wht had happened in the first place. Was that due to any dirt or dust in the memory and DIMM contacts? Well neways i am kinda relieved now. But i wanna make sure that everything works fine. What types of tests do you suggest to make sure that the system is working almost fine??
    Thanks a lots
    Regards

  • Green line on screen during boot only

hi, i've a problem with my macbook pro 13" late 2011! After an re-initialization on my macbook happens that only during boot i see a green vertical line on the right side of my display and it disappear after login. This green line starts from the upper side and finish to the down side. Can it be a problem deriverd from a bad os installation??
i'm attaching a photo but i'm sorry for bad image.
    thanks for the help!

    Try a pram reset:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Thinkpad T500 Ultrabay DVD/CD-RW Drive got disabled shortly after bios screen starts

My Ultrabay DVD/CD-RW got powered off shortly after the bios message appears on the screen. My Thinkpad is out of warranty for 3 months. I can open the drive in the first 5 seconds after starting the Thinkpad. 1-2 seconds laster it is powered off by thinkpad (as far as I can see).
I've checked google and this forum. I've found nothing related. Some people have written, that there is a bios option to enable the ultrabay and they described the same behaviour, but I've checked all the bios options and there is nothing about ultrabay.
This post is very similiar, but I don't have such an option on my T500:
    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/292026-14-writer-lenovo-thinkpad-t410-working
I've bought a new dvd drive, but this shows the same behaviour. It looks like something disables the s-ata port shortly after the bios screen appears.
    Bios Version 3.22
    Embedded Controller Version 1.06
I've tried to reset the bios to setup defaults, but this didn't change anything.
This is not OS related. The drive doesn't appear in bios boot (F12), Linux, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Actually I just found it it is under security for some crazy reason. There is 18 hrs i'll never get back.

  • Blank screen during boot, missing video on tty console

I have black screen when booting from docking station where is DVI video output. On laptop itself and over VGA is OK.
    Tried modify GRUB2:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“quiet”
    for
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“i915.modeset=1”
but still the same and can't get video after switch to tty (ctrl+alt+F1) as well
I compare with Debian where tty works fine
    found in folder:  /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
    where is:
    options i915 modeset=1
in Arch missing this file, any idea what to check?

    Mr.Elendig wrote:

This says ati but can in some cases happen on intel with docking stations too:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/At … rks_in_KMS
The most likely problem is the former though. It tries to use both outputs, and the vga uses a much lower res than the dvi, and therefor your monitor goes black because it doesn't like the video mode.
    Thank you for answer.
I modified Grub line for adding one more module parameters fbcon=map:1:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi_osi=Linux fbcon=map:1"
    and updated grub:
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
but now after showing Grub table with available systems just frozen video, still I'm able to typing from keyboard to push system forward (encryption password)
    I reverse to previous settings.

  • Red screen during boot up in Windows 7

My Laptop is a Satellite L655D-S5159RD. During and when the booting process starts, the screen displays red color with several vertical lines all through out  the usage. It creates blurry and shaky color while using it. All applications, windows 7 OS and internet browsing are all working properly on top of  that red color layer.  Because of that, all applications that are being used have a distorted color. Any ideas about this problem will be much appreciated. Thank.

To be clear, this is happening during the boot process, even before Windows finishes loading? Unfortunately, that usually indicates a hardware failure that would require servicing. I'm sorry.

  • Keyboard not responing during boot process (MB 865PE Neo2-LS)

    Hi everyone!
When I try to access the MB BIOS during the boot process my keyboard is not responding. The keyboard comes a live only after Windows XP has started. I am trying to reinstall my computer and make a few changes in my BIOS setup.
Does anyone know what I should do to get my keyboard working again
For the timebeing I am using a Logitech G11 with USB, I have also tried an older Logitech keyboard (the one that used to work) but with the same result.
Should I try using the PS/2 conetctor instead, I could buy an adapter if that would help?
    All help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the quick response, is there any other way to access the BIOS except by using a keyboard plugged in with ps/2?
Update: I tried with a PS/2 adaptor but with the same result, the keyboard is completelly dead during the boot process, except for a second or so when it makes a flash.

  • Interject self to login during Boot process - Solairs 10

I'm trying to figure out how to login by interjecting a command/key-stroke during the the Solairs 10 Boot process ( I think it's select Cntrl-A or Alt-A) and use a command which will provoke the root password. Any clue how I can get to this point? The system was designed so root can not login once console is up and available for login at the login screen so I need interject the boot process before the login GUI console is exectued.
    A million thanks,

Insufficient responses over there, thus far
(the STOP-A suggestion in that other thread is a good start),
but it might have been polite to include a reference link to everywhere you might have asked your question. Then people wouldn't duplicate the efforts of others.

  • Cisco Aironet 1262N stuck during boot process

I am banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why my AIR-AP1262N-A-K9 will not boot all the way. It will get all the way to initiating the interfaces and stop. I can never get to controlling the cli. This is my first time with a cisco ap but from everything that I read it seamed very easy.
This unit from what I understand will work all on its own with no controller. Hence it is called a "standalone" model. Yet it seems to be looking for something to finish during the boot. Below is the out put during boot. The last line is where it stops.

  • [SOLVED] Imapd does not start (only during boot process)

    I'm running a courier-imap server.
A few days ago I noticed I did not receive any mails anymore. Then I found my imapd daemon was not running anymore.
I then stopped the daemon process together with the xinetd daemon (which lets me connect to my imap server via my local network).
I restart from a terminal both daemons (imapd an xinetd) and ... everything is up and running ! Note that I have to stop xinetd too because only stopping imapd and restarting doesn't help.
I reboot my PC ... again no imapd anymore. During the boot process I do not get any error message though ...
    I'm completely puzzled
The problem started when I upgraded to the linux 3.0.1 kernel ...

I managed to get the problem solved by removing and re-installing the courier-imap package. Don't know why that solved it though ...
