Blocking a nuisance call

I keep getting a call from someone and their ID shows up as 4231. Clearly this isn't a real number as when I try to redial it I get a message telling me it wants a 10 digit number. I've called VW and they cannot help me telling me they cannot track who the real caller is. Clearly it's someone who is clever enough to block who they really are. When I answer the call no-one ever answers, but they still call me. How can I track who they really are or how can I block this call when I don't have their real number?

Lionheart, receiving unwanted calls is very annoying especially when you can't locate a way to stop them. Although we can't control who calls and text you, we do offer our customers some options for blocking. We have our usage control feature that is great for blocking unwanted calls and text. Verizon Wireless’ Usage Controls $4.99 per month for each wireless number enrolled.
With the blocking feature, you can block Up to 20 ten-digit numbers, Private calls, Restricted calls, and Unavailable calls which are not counted towards the 20 number block list because its a stand alone option. YOu can also block 800 and 900 numbers. Also, calls to 411, #411, *411 and 1-411 can now be blocked.
Although, trusted Numbers and short numbers, such as 911, 611, and #ROAD, cannot be blocked, if you are able to locate a phone number for this company or they start to call you private or restricted I think this will be a good option.
To register and/or manage Usage Controls, please sign in to “My Verizon” using your Account Owner ID and password and click on “More Actions” link located near the bottom left of your “My Verizon” home page. Next, click on “Set Usage Controls” link, which is located underneath “Safety and Security” in the “I Want To” section in the middle of the page.

There is a way! I'm very happy to share this and hope it helps those who find themselves plagued, as I was.
I have been getting nuisance calls for months from some muppet, who hides his phone number before he calls at 3am. I need to keep my phone on, in case any of my immediate family have an emergency. I'm sure many have the same problem, just turning off the phone is not an option. I have been to two or three shops to ask the experts and none could offer me a solution. I was on the verge of tring to jailbreak my phone or even get rid of it to get an andriod one...That's how bad things had become.
Anyway, this is my solution, which I found by trawling through page after page on the internet, for ages and trying various other solutions first. I have an iPhone 4S and the operating system is 6.1.3 and I am in the UK, on Orange, or EE as we should now call it. I cannot promise it will help everyone, but it works for me.
Go to Settings, Do Not Disturb and switch this on. Underneath here, go to Notifications, then Do Not Disturb again. Then Scheduled and set the times you want the restrictions to start and end. For example, I use 7pm to 8am, so that I know I won't get nuisance calls during this period, but whatever times work for you. Underneath, it says Allow calls from and you can select your favourites. If you haven't saved any of your contacts as Favourites, do so, it's very easy. Just go to contacts, open one and underneath the number there is a button to Add to favourites. Repeat for all close friends and family you want to be able to reach you at any time. All your favourites should be allowed to call. I think you can have 50 numbers in the favourites. But any unknown caller should be simply sent to voicemail.
Apple have had some previous issues with the Do Not Disturb feature and to be honest this didnt work 100% of the time for me. If you find the same, don't give up. I suggest you do as I did at this point and use an app called Call Bliss, which seems to have cracked it. (I have NO connection to them and it's no skin off my nose if you use this app or not). There may be other apps that do the same, or even better for all I know. You have a free one day trial then it's £3 if you want to continue to use it. For me, £3 to solve the problem was money very well spent. If you need this app, download it, then do as suggested above to the point where it says Allow calls from and this time you select Bliss Exceptions. Follow the instructions in the app.
There are two modes, I use suppress mode, which allows all calls to get through except those from unknown callers and those specified by you. I believe the other mode blocks all calls, except those you specify. Please note, the app only works when the iPhone is locked. Your lock might come on after the phone is not used for 5 minutes or so, or you can lock the phone by single clicking the on/off button (not holding it down).
I hope this helps anyone as much as it has done me.

BT4500 with nuisance call blocker - strange number...

I bought some BT4500 phones with nuisance call blocker. I have set it up to block withheld, international and payphone numbers. In general it works well, but I am getting more and more marketting calls from numbers which either 1) don't seem to conform to UK numbering (e.g. 0102055) or 2) look like international numbers (e.g. 0015183999915). My simple(?) questions are:
1) How can I establish the origin of calls by their number? For example, if 0102055 is in the UK, it is presumably registered to someone and thus can be reported to TPS; and although 0015183999915 looks like an international number, is it? (because international callers do not usually have their number presented).
2) If a number is international (number presented) why doesn't my nuisance call blocker send it straight to the answering machine?
I had a lengthy chat to the BT help line but I couldn't get answers to these questions. They simply offered me a number change (don't want) and "choose to refuse" (only works for pre-specified numbers), and suggested international call barring (no good because I get some genuine international calls which go to the answering machine).
Can anyone provide answers?

Constant nuisance calls

Every single day we recieve a number of nuisance calls, usually a couple from a woman and the others from a man, both with thick Indian accents. They are both scammers, the woman asks if we have a PC because theres lots of virus' going around in my area, presumably she wants me to install some rubbish on the computer to extract personal information. The man says hes doing a survey and for this pleasure will we please give him our credit card details.
We just hang up as soon as we hear the initial click before they start talking now but, its starting to get me down, knowing every time the phone rings its likely to be them again.
We've tried 1471 but we just get the "we do not have the callers number available" message every time, so today I signed up to the free Home Privacy with Caller Display online thinking we could just not answer calls from unknown numbers only to read these forums and find out online registration of Home Privacy isn't working.
Choose to Refuse or Anonymous Call Reject sound like just what we need but are simply to expensive, so is there anything we can do?
The fact we recieve more nuisance calls than genuine ones has us considering if we really want the hassle of having a land line.
P.S. We are already registered with the Telephone Preference Service, for all the good it does.

This has taken a nasty turn today.
An indian woman phoned about half an hour ago, the woman on the other end said she was calling from TPS (telephone preference service) and wanted to help stop nuisance calls.
I asked her for a contact number and she gave me the following, 020300994930099,this instantly concerned me and I told her that she isn't who she claims to be and I won't be giving her any details, I asked her to stop calling as well.
At this point she started going off on one saying "you can call BT, the police but I'll still keep on calling", I told her to to leave us alone and in the process said **bleep**, she said "we already have your details and will take whatever we like", she then proceeded to reel off the number of a Barclaycard that was canceled a while ago. I laughed at her and said something like good luck the cards been canceled and I no longer have an account with Barclaycard, they also know all about what you're doing and will block any attempts anyway.
She didn't seem to understand this and kept saing "no not your bank card your credit card" to which I kept saying "ITS BEEN CACELED". Then she went back to saying I'll keep ringing you and BT/the police will never be able to trace me, I said that if she does we'll just answer it and leave it on the side and ignore them, she said thats fine sir you waste your time.
Eventually she said "If you regret saying that bad word I'll regret calling you and I won't call again", so I said in a sarcastic was I was sorry and she then apologized and said she wouldn't call again and said goodbye.
Surely BT could and should do more to sort this problem out, changing my number simply isn't practical as I run a charity and the number is on various documentation.

How do I block persistent spam calls?

Two or three times a day I get a spam call from a telemarkter representing Capital One bank. I have YouMail that ditches each call afterward, plus I have enable the Apple menu that says it blocks the number. But it does not, and I keep geting these nuisance calls every day. It is frustrating!!

Did you tell the telemarketer that you no longer want to receive their calls?

Nuisance calls

I recently changed my number and it's ex-directory. But I am still getting nuisance calls. It could be in the morning - International calling or withheld number. I telephoned BT and there is nothing they can do - the only thing is to buy the BT7610 Nuisance Call Blocker, the thing is this is a paid service. Also sometimes I do get calls from abroad, and sometimes withheld numbers are used by doctors' surgeries. You have to be polite when answering the phone. The withheld number rings about 3pm in the afternoon. I am not sure what this nuisance person wants but the only thing you can do with a number is ring it. Anyone had a similar problem - what to do?

You have to buy one of those, and its fits between your phone line and your phone.
If you do a Google search for CPR Call Blocker, you should find it.
There is also a Truecall unit, but that is more expensive.
If you already have a phone that can bar numbers, then the only advantage of other call blockers, is that you can bar "withheld" , "International", and "Unavailable"
If you want to block all withheld calls at network level, then you have to pay a monthly fee (£4.75) to BT, for Anonymous Call Rejection.
Callers then get a message asking them not to withhold their number.

Nuisance calls since joining BT

Since joining BT the number of nuisance calls from call centres, India and sales reps has increases 100%. I swap to BT from Sky in June, yet whilst with Sky I did not receive any unsolicited calls.
Registered with BT for TPS and exdirectory listing.
If I did not have this problem with Sky, are BT selling my information to companies? It appears so!

Well if you pop along to the SKY help Forums and enter Nuisance calls into the search box you will find plenty of SKY customers who were and are receiving nuisance calls..

If you do want to stop these calls then at the moment it appears that you have to spend a bit of money, The BT6500 phone is supposed to work. I use a Truecall unit and that definitely works.
But it's no good just having a go at the tossers, (sorry call centre ops) you have to complain to the TPS (nearly as bad) and if its marketing calls then complain directly to the Information Commissioners Office

Following a very determined campaign by Which? the Culture, Media and Sport Committee is planning to hold an inquiry into Nuisance Telephone Calls and Text Messages. The Committee is inviting written evidence from those who wish to contribute to the inquiry, and we expect that there will be a Select Committee hearing in the Autumn.
A number of MPs don't favour call blocking products like trueCall because consumers have to pay for them. It would be good if they heard from users of the technology telling them how effective it can be. If I'm worried about the anxiety and distress that repeated nuisance calls are having on my elderly mother then government action that may take years to become effective doesn't really help me, but a trueCall unit can be plugged in today and solve the problem immediately.
Our view is that elderly and vulnerable consumers should get subsidised call blocking technology - councils often provide free pendant alarm systems, why not call blocking?

These nuisance calls, particularly from 01133280180, telling you your windows have problems are a pain in the proverbial. If and when they actually talk I tell them my windows were cleaned yesterday and I can see through them very well. Normally they hang up on me. However, more often than not nobody speaks. I get this number calling me two or three times a day.
What, if anything, can BT do to stop these calls? Probably not a lot. I already have BT Privacy with Caller Display and TPS. No doubt they would tell me to spend more money on a call blocking phone.
According to the number code, 01133, the call is routed via Leeds. Is that correct?

They probably will not actually tell you, but they are the best for getting some peace and quiet.
If you do purchase a call blocker then can I advise you to do some research on them and get the best one that suits your purpose.
At the moment I believe there are the truecall unit, the CPR callblocker and also the new telephones coming out with nuisance call blocking facilities.
Personally I would not use the telephone blockers and they are very limited in what options they give you.

Non blocking stored proc call

I have written a c application using OCI which can call stored proc. but that is using blocking call. Is it possible to call stored proc in non blocking mode? So that I can receive output in call back function. Actually stored proc take much time to execute can I associate some Subscription callback-function with my stored proc call. Any idea?

If you want to do non-blocking calls in OCI, you just need to set the server handle (svrhp below) attribute:

And then you call you OCIExecute() as you would in blocking mode. The difference is that instead of blocking until the call is done on the server, it always returns immediately. So instead of calling it just once per statement and checking the return code, you must keep calling OCIExecute() until it does not equal OCI_STILL_EXECUTING. When the proc is done, the final call to OCIExecute() will then be OCI_SUCCESS, OCI_ERROR, whatever happened.

Blocking incoming collect calls in the voice gateway

I am using a C3825 router and I want to block incoming collect calls. I tried the command "double-answer" under cas-custom but it is not working. Does anyone have an alternative? I am using an E1 R2 digital.

OP is not in the US, and does not have ISDN, has E1 R2 instead
E1 R2 has a method to block collect calls called double-answer. This method is supported and documented by Cisco.
But for some reason it doesn't work for OP.
In these case, it is necessary to involve an experienced consultant, if not TAC escalation directly.

I tuned on Do Not Disturb and selected allow Favorites can call in. In iOS6 it can block the call No ID, but in iOS7 can not. Is it bug?

Make sure your 'Show in Lock Screen' options didn't get changed for any of those apps you want to see. Mine are still showing up just fine with DND turned on.

Hi Guys, need help on this.
I have this LabVIEW program that used to work on the old computer.
The old computer crashes most of the time, so I upgraded the computer
and used its Hard Drive as slave to the new computer.
I have no idea where are its installers since the guy that made the program
is not in my department anymore.
I downloaded all the drivers needed from NI: NIDAQ9.0, NIVISA,NI488.2,
and drivers of some instruments needed in the setup. I'm using LabVIEW8.2.
Everything's fine until I open the LabVIEW program for our testing.
Here goes the error:

Honestly, I'm a newbie on Labview. I just want this old program to run on the new computer.
The guys that installed the drivers on the old computer are no longer here in my department.
And I have no idea where the drivers are. So I just downloaded the drivers needed for my hardware and instruments.
Here's my hardware: (cards: PCI-DIO-96, PCI-GPIB), (instruments: SCB100,E4407B, HP83623, HP3458, HP8657)
OS: Windows XP Pro
By the way, I have unzipped the TraditionalDAQ drivers. First I tried the 7.4.1, but installation error appeared.
I thought maybe the installer is corrupted, so I downloaded the 7.4.4 and unzipped it.
But, still same installation error appears. I don't understand, both TraditionalDAQ drivers have same installation error.
Now I have tried the DAQmx8.7.2 driver, bu still the DIO Port Config and DIO Port Write have errors.

For security reasons, 3rd party apps don't have access to private iPhone APIs which such an app would require.
You want to stop being able to place such calls or stop receiving such calls?
If the latter, try stopping it at the source by contacting your carrier.

Blocking incoming Restricted Calls

Does anyone know how to block incoming restricted calls? I have gotten an unusal amount in the past week; no one ever answers or leaves messages. I am starting to get concerned and a little nervous. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated thanks!

You have to pay $4.99/month for the 20 number call blocking plan. Apparently in that add on, there is an option to block, restricted and unknown calls from coming through.
