Blog RSS

Hello,
I'm new to the forum, Apple and IWeb. I've been a PC User for too long.
I have made a website and have been working the bugs out for a few weeks, when I can.
The final thing That I have not resolved is to get my little blog, accessible to RSS reader.
Here is the address of the blog,
http://www.alaskacreativetours.com/ACT/Journal/Journal.html
Thank You

Your calendar page "http://www.alaskacreativetours.com/ACT/Calendar.html" is wanting me to login to my google account.
to embed a google calendar I would use an iFrame tag like such (minus the code tags):

• Blog rss feed is buggy?

Has anyone had luck creating a blog rss feed? When I look at my rss feed in Safari it shows an small image and text for each entry. When I click on the image, instead of linking to the entry page, Safari opens a full sized image.
You can see this at: feed://rss.mac.com/kevinpackard/iWeb/The%20Packards/690A4A1C-A190-4DF0-B0B2-635 DD508F304/rss.xml
I think it's a bug, but thought I'd run it by the forum here before I file it as a bug with Apple.
Thanks,
Kevin Packard

I had set the webpage URL to www.server.edu/~login/ when I was asked after choosing to publish the site, and when I clicked on the RSS button all I saw was a white screen with some broken images and a few bits of text. When I changed the URL to www.server.edu/~login/blog/rss.xml, it now works correctly.

Does anyone have an idea how to make this work or what I

• Blog RSS Feed won't work

In my application if the blog appears on the restricted page where login is required "Subscribe to RSS" link gives the error as below.
Safari can't open the page "feed:xxx.xxxx.xxx/xxx/xxx/xxx/-/blogs/rss". The error is: "The feed could not be loaded because the content is not in a known feed format." (PubSub:2) Please choose Safari > Report Bugs to Apple, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
RSS Feed loads correctly in on MAC Firefox.
If the blog appears on the page where login is not required, RSS Feed loads correctly in MAC Safari also.
Is the feed processed differently in both scenarios described above? Is there a way to make it work?

Ok...
You are running 10.6.2 according to your profile. Download and install the v10.6.3 Combo Update
Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

• Podcast Problem - how can i add artwork to apple blog rss link

hi,
i create a wiki blog page on our mac server, on the blog page i add video for podcasting and i enable podcast service on wiki settings. Then i take rss link from safari and i subscribe to itunes but when itunes check my link, there isnt artwork and i cant change the rss link code cause of the link generated automaticly from java. What can i do for this problem or how can i add artwork to apple blog servers rss link ?
Thank you

Bonjour,
The rules are simple: one entry = one page
if an article needs several pages, start this article on blog entry then continue with a page made with welcome page template or blank page template.
you can change the link of the buttons "next" and "previous" to visit the pages you choose.
(select the link > inspector > Link > hyperlink > check enable as a hyperlink > choose "one of my pages" ).
Don't include these other pages in navigation menu.
(inspector > Page > Page > uncheck "include page in navigation menu").

• Rss:PubDate gives too much info to iWeb Blog RSS feed

Hi All!
Blog pages are setup in iWeb, and I've got an external "bot" that subscribes to the RSS feed from the blog. I'm grabbing the feed and stripping the {rss:pubDate}, {rss:title} and {rss:description} fields from the feed to re-format for posting in a discussion forum. (Note: no copyright issues here, as I write the blog, publish the feed, and host/admin/moderate the forum.)
I'm wondering if the {rss:PubDate} field can be stripped down to include less information in the feed? It seems the PubDate is derived from the date and time of the blog post that's feeding it. ie: I enter 12/28/1993 in the blog entry "Date" field... the RSS feed comes out with the date I entered, AND the time of day and GMT offset the post was created. I don't need the time of day and GMT offset in my forum post headlines... is there any way to put less information into the {rss:PubDate} field via the blog entry page in iWeb? I'd like my {rss:PubDate} field to read "12/28/1993" instead of "12/28/1993 04:23:57 -0800"
Ideas?
-Case

Bonjour
For RSS feed, iWeb only use the URL you write in the Site Publishings settings. Make sure that you've written http://thesnugglycactus.net/ and not https://thesnugglycactus.net/
But I don't really think that you wrote https, otherwise RSS feed would not be your only issue.

• Flex 2 Wordpress Blog RSS

I find it EXTREMLY hard to belive, that wordpress doesn't
support the use of Flex2 RSS.
The only reason I find this, is because whenever I try to
call data from my wordpress blog it won't work.
MY OBJECTIVE IS SIMPLE!!!!!
Get the RSS From -
http://grahamtt.wordpress.com/feed/
Parse it into a simple Flex Blog Reader/RSS reader app(All
this is completly done)
Whenever I try to run my app on my computer it works, but on
my server IT DOESNT.
Heres is my COMPLETE code:
Link -
http://pastebin.ca/586156
The reason I use -
http://atom2rss.semiologic.com/?atom=http%3A%2F%2Fgrahamtt.wordpress.com%2Ffeed%2F
instead of -
http://grahamtt.wordpress.com/feed/
Is because Flex 2 doesn't read Atom (as far as I know). And
that's the same thing, I just used the converter here:
http://atom2rss.semiologic.com/
Can somebody PLEASE explain to me how to set up a Proxy
properly? And get my code working?
It's crucial for my job that I find out how to read data from
wordpress blogs in a Flex App.
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

yea, I've tried that (too what I understand them saying) and
it didnt work.
I downloaded the proxy.php and uploaded it to the directory
of my swf, but it still wont work. I also tried including the php
in proxy.php into the actual page that used the swf, and nothing
worked.

• IWeb Blog RSS feed no longer updates

When I originally published my iWeb blog to .Mac, the RSS feed contained all 3 posts. Since then the RSS feed hasn't updated, although I've added several new entries to the blog. I've checked the source code of the RSS feed and it only contains the original 3 posts.
Any suggestions for getting the RSS feed to update?

Follow-up post. Strangely, when checking ths RSS feed from IE at work, I see the new posts in the source data of the feed. So this is not an iWeb problem, but probably related to the more general RSS update issues within Safari.

• Blogging RSS feeds

Hoping some one can cast some light on this problem. I have this website created in iWeb'08.
I have used a blog section for some news items, however when I click on the RSS feed I get the following error:
Safari can’t open the page “feed://www.belmonthousestud.com/belmontsite/successstories/rss.xml” because it could not load any data from this location.
Now the strangest thing is that link appears to operate fine when clicked in either Firefox 2 or Internet Explorer 7!
I have tried Safari 2 and Safari 3 beta. Strangest thing is that the podcast feed works!
(Link to problem page)
http://www.belmonthousestud.com/belmontsite/success_stories/successstories.html

HAHAHAHAA!!!
I know your problem EXACTLY!!!
Here's what you need to do...
Go to your domain name provider (go daddy?) and have them switch the forwarding to:
web.mac.com/KeithVaugh (or whatever your .mac (apple) log-in name is. If you had the same forwarding before it will have all sorts of ugly stuff after it that isn't needed anymore.
If this is godaddy you'll need to wait about 15 minutes or so after the fact.
Then...
In iWeb08... choose the FILE - Personal Domain settings... this will open your internet browser...
Follow the prompts and CANCEL your personal domain. Don't worry about the warnings. -- if you keep your forwarding on at your domain provider you will still get hits/redirects at the www site.
Quit iWeb and restart
Then at the bottom of iWeb you will no longer see the [email protected] (www.belmonthousestud.com) with the green light... you should only see your email.
All will be good!!!!
Worked for me
Best luck,

• IWeb Blog- RSS not updated for new Comments?

Hey gang-
It appears that Comments added to Blog entries on an iWeb site do not appear in RSS updates to that Blog. Is there any way to make them do that?

• Suggest Oracle Blogs RSS feed switch to "full content"

I discussed the importance of aggregators delivering "full content" feeds in http://tardate.blogspot.com/2007/08/otn-in-china-and-importance-of.html
I realised that the Oracle Blogs feed does not currently include full text. Can we get the newsfeed enhanced to include full text of posts (or at least as an option)?

I think I may have arrowed the wrong culprit. Seems the problem is with the individual blog authors, not the Oracle Blogs feed, so you can ignore my bleating here!

• Getting your RSS feed to work without .Mac

OK, so there have been a few people asking about this and I have figured out a way around it. I must warn you it is not a simple solution, but if you are comfortable using Text Edit to modify the code of your pages, it is a piece of cake - but still fairly tedious. If anyone has a quicker solution, please let us know! I would love to come up with an apple script to automate this process, but that takes time...
The reason Apple says you can only use the RSS subscribe feature by using a .Mac account is because iWeb creates an additional directory that those of us using 3rd party servers don't use. They do this to separate multiple iWeb sites on your .Mac account. When you publish to a file, that extra directory is the parent folder that you extract each page's file from to load to your public_html folder on your server, so you end up not using that iWeb site folder.
For example, in publishing to .Mac, I will find my Blog rss.xml file on my iDisk under Web/Sites/iWeb/BookEndMedia/Blog/rss.xml, creating the URL of http://web.mac.com/audiogeek/BookEndMedia/Blog/rss.xml. In publishing to my 3rd party server with domain www.bookendmedia.com, that file is found in public_html/Blog/rss.xml, creating the URL of http://www.bookendmedia.com/Blog/rss.xml.
The problem arises in iWeb's creation of the rss.xml file, blog-main.xml file, and blog-archive.xml file, which are all located in the Blog folder. Each of these files create links to the Entries files and jpegs, and in doing so adds the BookEndMedia directory, which is does not exist in our 3rd party server.
The way I found to fix this is after publishing and before uploading to open all 3 files mentioned above in Text Edit, hit Command F to find and replace all instances of "/BookEndMedia/" with "/", removing the extra directory from all links.
There is however one more glitch I found that has nothing to do with the extra directory. These .xml files that iWeb creates look for all jpegs from each entry in the Media folder. iWeb now stores these files in the same folder as the blog entry. Instead of changing each link in the .xml files, I simply copied each jpeg into the Media file.
After doing all this I now have a functioning RSS feed that any RSS reader can subscribe to and even see the pictures. The only problem is every time I post I have to go through all this again with each .xml file and copying the new entry's jpeg into the Media folder.
Hopefully Apple will come up with a way for iWeb to distinguish if you are publishing to a folder and write the appropriate code for creating these .xml files. Until then, we will have to do these extra steps to get what we want - or we can come up with an Apple Script to save us some time (anyone?).
In the mean time I will count my blessings in the fact that thanks to iWeb I only have to modify 3 .xml files and not write code for every single page of my site.
Hope this helps, and if anyone has any suggestions, please let us know!
And please feel free to give me feedback on my site.
Thanks!

Here is a sample of the beginning of the blog-main.xml file:

• RSS Feed Issues

I built a blog in iWeb which is hosted by MobileMe on my personal domain. I use Feedburner for the RSS Feed.
Here is my raw feed address: http://www.ryanfirpo.com/filmmaker/Blog/rss.xml
Here is my Feedburner feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ryan918FILMS
Can anyone tell me how to:
1) Get the RSS Feed to display images.
2) Get the RSS Feed to embed video.
3) Get the RSS Feed to retain all my previous posts. Right now it will only show the five newest at any given time (in any RSS Reader).
I apologize about the multiple posts. I'm just completely at a loss as to where to go next and there seems to be no information about this specific problem anywhere on the web (I've done a lot of searching). I thought posting something that simply and concisely explained my problem would be beneficial.
BTW I only began using Feedburner because I wanted my RSS Feed to display multiple images (at this point, I'd settle for one) and I read this article: http://allaboutiweb.com/index.php/2008/09/better-rss-iweb/
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if it's just to tell me these things can't be done with iWeb. At this point, I really don't know.

I'm trying to use a feed provided by libsyn:
feed://podcastdoctor.libsyn.com/rss
And it is giving me the same errors as mentioned in this thread:
There was a problem updating the group titled TabName in course CourseTitle - the url http://media.libsyn.com/media/podcastdoctor/40Dr._Rudi_Ansbacher_-Menopause.mp3 could not be read
I don't have control over the libsyn feed, and cannot tell if:
1) the redirect on the media file is the cause
2) the xml feed is invalid (libsyn support said it was OK).
The frustrating thing is this feed is used in the Apple Store on the Podcasting side... so I am not sure why it won't also work in iTunesU.
Thanks!

• The system Pages library and its RSS feed do not work properly in SharePoint 2010

This question is about RSS feed for the system 'Pages' library in SharePoint 2010.
Now there are 5 'News' pages in the system 'Pages' library. In each news page there is one field called 'Title' for the news title. One of the news page is named 'FileNamePage5.aspx', and the news title is 'This is the title of page5'.
I have enabled RSS in Site Settings, and configured RSS Settings for the 'Pages' library from the Communications section via Document Library Settings. I selected a few columns to display in the RSS description, including the 'Title' column. In the RSS feed
(XML file) of the system 'Pages' library, I checked the XML source code, and found the news page file name appearing in the
tag below within the feed (XML source code).

FileNamePage5

and the original news title 'This is the title of page5' was appearing in the
tag in the feed (XML sorce code)

... This is the title of page5...

.
This would make it hard to extract ONLY the original news title (This is the title of page5) out of the feed via XSLT, because the data within the
tag in the feed also contains data from all other selected columns defined via the RSS
Setting. If I did not select the 'Title' column via RSS Setting above, I even could not find the orinigal news title in the RSS feed.
This is happening for all other news pages in the system 'Pages' library. Is this what SharePoint 2010 normally does? or is something wrong with the settings for site or the system 'Pages' library?
How to display ONLY the original news title (This is the title of page5) in the
tag in the RSS feed. Please Help me to resolve this issue.
谢亚军@Sydney

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display the value in Title column of Pages library in title tag in RSS Feed in SharePoint.
I tested the same scenario per your post, the title tag in RSS Feed displayed the value of Name column in libraries and displayed the value of Title column in lists.
It is by design and there is no OOB way to change the default column mapping in RSS Feed.
I recommend to customize your own RSS Feed style sheet to make the title displays the value of Title column in SharePoint libraries.
Here is a link about customizing the RSS Feed for document library for you to take a look:

Best regards.
