Bluetooth suddenly stops working?
Has anyone had the issue where the factory Bluetooth suddenly stops working on the PowerMac G5?
My G5 (Dual 2 gig) has been working like a champ, and suddenly during use or when it is attempting to sleep, will seem to "lose" the computer. The computer in System Preferences can still see the bluetooth power levels, they appear to be paired, but moving the mouse and/or keyboard does nothing.
A reboot seems to be the only thing that clears it. The only recent addition was a wired USB camera cradle, and the problem did seem to start around then, but I don't know why that would impact Bluetooth. Any ideas?
The problem turned out to be a combination of RF and a hardware problem.

My bluetooth suddenly stopped working soon after I upgraded to OS 10.9.4. I rebooted SMC, didn't work. Any other ideas? Don't know if it's related to the upgrade. I see other complaints about bluetooth in the thread but none of the solutions offered there have worked for me.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Why would my bluetooth suddenly stop working?
I have had non-Apple Bluetooth devices simply stop communicating after being paired with a device for a year or longer with no apparent reason. The solution was simply to pair the device again.
An explanation is likely to be elusive, resulting only in manufacturers of the devices blaming each other for deficiencies either real or imagined. -
Bluetooth on imac suddenly stopped working
To start, thank you for reading this question with the intent to help. My imac LionOSX 10.7.5 . Does anyone have experience or knowledge about how the bluetooth to a computer can suddenly stop working. It happened at the same time that the computer start up slowed way down (Just took 4 minutes...i timed it so I could know for sure). It used to start up in about 30 seconds or less. (The computer itself seems to work as fast as normal once the start process has finished.
At first, I thought there was something wrong with my keyboard and mouse, but couldn't even log in to access the system preferences, as both were not working. So I grabbed an old keyboard and mouse from my Windows desktop, plugged them in and was able to log in. That is when I noticed that the bluetooth icon in the menu at the top right of the screen showed a line through the bluetooth icon and when I click on it, it says "bluetooth unavailable. When I click on the "About this Mac"/more info and look under bluetooth, it says "no information found". Also, the mouse I plugged in stopped working the next day until i plugged it into a different USB port.
My fear is that I accidentally downloaded some kind of malware that is eating up different functionalities on my computer. I did use a web-service to download a youtube video on neck exercises (how stupid of me...could have simply bookmarked it and pulled it up just as easily)
If you can help, I would be oh, so grateful. I know my way around computers in the most basic sense, but don't understand much about the how's, why's, how-to's of computer technology.

I have been trying all the wonderful suggestions people have given, but so far with no luck. It is absolutely clear that the problem is with the internal bluetooth and not with the keyboard or mouse. I bought an external bluetooth usb adaptor, and now my bluetooth devices are usable again, but the internal bluetooth is still unavailable. Thanks for letting me know that the long wait at startup was more than likely due to the system searching for the bluetooth, very comforting.
In one article I read, the person recommended trashing the plist file, com.apple.bluetooth.plist, but I couldn't find a file like this in the library. However, I did find a file named 'com.apple.Bluetooth.Audio.plist' which was modified on June 12, which is the same time the bluetooth stopped working. I don't know what to do with this file, since I really know nothing about how computers work, code, etc., etc. I just really enjoy the finished product, so to speak. But here is what I found when I opened the plist file.

I also found two files that were logs of events that occurred on the 12th and 13th. I have copied and pasted this info and put it into two text docs, which if I can figure out how, I will attach in case someone is able to look at code and figure out what it means. That is way beyond me (and I envy those who can read this foreign language)
In addition, there is a folder named 'com.apple.BluetoothFileExchange.savedState' which was created on June 12th also. It has 2 documents, one named 'data.data' and another named 'windows.plist' I took a screenshot of the plist file which i hope I can include somehow in this post.
There is a 2nd folder created June 23 named com.apple.BluetoothSetupAssistant.savedState that has a data.data file and another windows.plist
These are the only files/folders that came up when searching the library under the key word bluetooth.
Thanks to everyone who was so willing to help. While I wasn't able to fix the problem, I learned lots of good stuff, like how to find my library, etc. so just know your efforts to help were not in vain.

Dear All, the backspace and enter keys on my wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working. Im using OS 10.7.5 and have tried a PRAM reset which didn't work. I also used the keyboard viewer to see if the keys worked on that but they don't. This is driving me mad, can anyone please tell me what to do? It happened just after an update but this could be a coincidence. Thank you for your time
For my computers, though some of them support BlueTooth devices and accessories,
my preference and economy of standard, is to have wired USB and also use powered
USB hubs for accessories.
I've used USB wired keyboards and mouse products; and some I've bought from the
original owners who had upgraded to BT, and never used the new Apple USB model;
so I have spares of these on-hand since they seldom fail, but do work when BT won't.
{A SMC reset should not cause a problem, or seldom has; but can solve some.}
In my opinion, the wired USB keyboard is an essential accessory, if not a necessary
primary means of user access on a continuous basis. At least until the wires fail...! -
Certain sounds on my iPhone (text alerts, text sent sound, etc) will suddenly stop working. I will get notification of an incoming text with a sound all day long and then out of the blue there will be no sound to accompany the alerts anymore. When I send a text, I always hear a sound when it sends the text...but just like the alerts, the sound for that will suddenly quit too.
Yes, I've checked the loud/silent switch. I've checked the volume. The only thing that seems to fix this issue is powering off and back on.
I don't use headphones (I've seen this can sometimes cause the silent mode to get stuck) so that isn't the problem. I thought maybe it had something to do with the bluetooth connection in my car but the sound will quit sometimes when the bluetooth is off and I'm nowhere near my car.
I had this issue with my iPhone 4s and just put up with it until I got the new iPhone 6, figuring I wouldn't have the issue anymore with a new phone. My iPhone 6 is still doing this so I'm guessing there is some crazy, hidden setting somewhere I'm not aware of, or there is something wonky in the iOS.
This is incredibly frustrating as I have not known about an urgent message because the phone didn't make any alert sound to let me know I received a message.Was wondering if you had found a solution for this? I went to the Genius Bar 3 seperate times to get this exact issue resolved. First they reset my phone as a new phone, then they replaced my speaker, and finally they replaced my phone. Still, with a brand new phone, it is happening. I have iphones for a long time and do not believe I am doing anything differently. Have you found something that worked for you? Thanks!

Why did video and audio chat suddenly stop working?
I used to be able to video and audio chat with my parents, but it suddenly stopped working. They use AIM.
I get the "There was a communication error during your chat" message come up when I try to connect to their video chat requests. I spent a couple hours reading the old posts on this issue, but nothing seems to work for me. Thanks to anyone who can help me -- my parents in Illinois want to be able to see their grandbaby!

Most routing devices have ports that are open (1 - 1024) that allow you to use Web Browser and Mail apps without any set up.
Certain apps need other ports open or allowed as thy are normally closed (1024 - 65535)
Now there are several ways to open these ports.
One method is called Port Forwarding and points the ports you list to one IP on your LAN (The one your computer is getting/using)
Now if the routing device is left doing DHCP this IP can change now and then meaning the Port Forwarding is no longer pointing to the Computer (IP).
If your computer (or your parents in this case) is left on all the time it tends to keep the IP as the Lease as it is called is renewed.
However if the computer is Off for longer than the lease time It will get a new IP
The thing to do is check the routing device's Settings.
This site lists many devices.
If yours is there click on it.
On the next page Click on iChat
You will now see the Default Access Info (And the Port Forwarding info)
DO NOT DO the Port Forwarding but check the settings.
If it does have Port Forwarding set up check the IP it lists as going to matches the one you see in System Preferences > Network for your computer.
AS you say your parents were away for a time I suspect it may be their end.

iMAC suddenly stops working,display is on but key board and mouse does not respond.I changed keyboard with usb also but still same.even wifi stops working also.PLEASE HELP before there was some kernel panic errors , i updated every thing, installed an original osx mountain Lion. taken to Apple service center. They found nothing wrong with hard ware. But i am having still the same problems. It just stops responding to keyboard, mouse even wifi goes off some time. I thought it may be keyboard mouse problem so i changed them to normal usb keyboard and mouse but still the same. That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

It seems when i do something simple as typing text, it'll stop working and give me a "Adobe Photoshop suddenly stop working". My CS4 32bit version seems to working fine with whatever i'm working on. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate on a new computer Intel quad core with 4gig of ram if that helps. Sorry if this have been asked before but i couldn't find anything on these forums. my usb that i have been using on my computer for a while suddenly stopped working, but is still glowing and letting me know that it is connected, but not showing up in disk utility
Either the physical drive or the enclosure electronics has failed. The light you are seeing is powered by the USB connection, the power, electricity, all USB ports put out. That doesn't mean the actual physical hard drive or the USB to SATA bus electronics are working properly. If it doesn't show in Disk Utility then it is DEAD.
Most of the time it is the enclosures electronics that fail. Removing the physical drive from the enclosure and put it in another enclosure or using a SATA to USB adapter, one that has it's own AC power supply, might allow you to get the files off the drive. -
Satellite L300 suddenly stopped working - new motherboard needed
My Sat L300 suddenly stopped working the other day.
It kept freezing to start with, then nothing at all. So, I kill-disked the HDD and tried to re-install Windows (XP).
During the install it threw up a message that some internal components had been incorrectly installed and needed to be reinstalled.
I was told to remove the memory cards and re-seat them.
That did not work. I thought that perhaps the HDD was damaged, so I fitted a new one, and started to reinstall Windows.
Once again, same message. One of my colleagues at work suggested that the Motherboard was probably U/S.
So I have been trawling the .net to find a replacement. Laptop out of warranty! I am told that some other serial numbered motherboards will work with this laptop. Don't really want to get a motherboard only to find its never going to work! My unit has an SPS number of: V000138330.
I am being offered one with an SPS of: V000138390.
Any ideas? Will this one work?
And if it does, will it give me the functionality that I used to enjoy?!
Sorry for the long sob story.

The issue: Outlook to iPhone sync failure – Sync suddenly stopped working for calendar events but continued for contacts and notes. Finally Fixed!!!

The cause: It is now clear what caused this problem. For years I had several “all-day” events in my Outlook calendar (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.). In May 2012 I decided to make some of them one hour events so I could add alerts to remind me of the event. I did this by dragging them in Outlook to the time I wanted and expanding them to the time slot desired and then adding the alarm.
The symptom: Syncing stopped working for the calendar but continued working for contacts and notes. I didn’t realize sync was failing until months later when I missed two very important phone calls, so when I noticed it the cause was not obvious.
The failed attempts: I’m head of a software firm and my calendar sync is a crucial to my business life so I took this on with a vengeance. From a quick look at events in Outlook and the iPhone I could see that the problem started in May 2012. Events before May were in both Outlook and the iPhone but events after May were only one or the other. Unfortunately I had changed several other things at the same time relating to other events so again the cause was not obvious. MANY calls with AppleCare proved them incompetent so my internal IT guys assisted trying many things. We tried a huge number of calendar changes and several versions of iTunes, iPhone OS and Office as well as both iPhone 4 and 5, all without success.
The fix: After 18 months of frustration, MANY hundreds of $ expense and MANY hours of wasted time I saw a blog that had a calendar sync problem and it indicated all day events were related. I changed the display of the Outlook calendar to the list view, added columns so I could see “all day” event check marks as well as times of events, sorted on the “all day” event column to move them to the top, and for all events that were “all day” events AND had a start and end time, I removed recurrence and then added the annual recurrence back…
After I fixed all events that had BOTH “all day” set and had a start/end time, I tried another sync. It synced for the first time in 18 months!

My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine earlier, but when I went back a few hours later, the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. Let your ipod die. Then when it is dead charge it adn turn it back on. After that it should be fine.
