Bmm Help

Hi,
I have following tables in physical layer - which are at different levels.
Dim1: Year, State ,State id 10 records
Dim2: Year, State, County , County id 90 records
Dim3: Year, State, County, City, City id 150 records
Fact table in Physical and bmm layer holds: Year, State, county, City but not id's.
Can i create only Dim table in Bmm layer with columns Year, State, County, City. And, make sure Year column holds logical mapping for all Dim1, Dim2, Dim3.
And, State for all 3 Dim's.
And, county for only Dim2, Dim3.
And, city for only Dim3.
Is this right approach ?
Please, let me know your feedback.

In physical layer it was mapped as
Fact - Dim1
Fact - Dim2
Fact - Dim3
In, busin. layer i have Dim1 mapped to Fact intially, then drag and dropped Dim2 and Dim3 into Dim1. So, it creates all the columns. And, if the column exists in all the dim's such as year, state present in all Dim's so those two columns are mapped to all Dim's L.T.S
Where as County is present in only 2 Dim's so it is mapped for only 2 Dim's as per L.T.S

for account table we have the Site Data_1_Name ..Site Data_3_Name columns values which is the column name for the values in Site table(i.e the values in the columns "Site Data_1_Value..Site Data_1_Value") . this values change dynamically based on the column name(Site Data_1_Name ..Site Data_3_Name ) in Account Table . how do i map this column values in RPD level ? or do we have any logic to implement this. PLEASE HELP ME TO SOLVE THIS ...

HI mohan the information you provided holding some sensitive data please delete some of them otherwise you might be in trouble.
Make join between the account_ID and the SITE_ID based on the inner join columns which match in both tables will retrieved in the report. If you want to see the null values as well you can use outer join.

I am a newbie in OBIEE. I am working on a project in our organisation for existing database schema in oracle. We are planning to use OBIEE for reporting purpose.
Here's my problem.......
I have Three dimensions and Two Fact tables in my schema.
out of these one dimension is conformed Dimension.
Product_Reporting_Line, Geography, Policy_Cover_Type are Dimensions and ClaimFact,*PolicyFact* are facts.
Product_Reporting_Line is joined to Claim Fact and Policy_Cover_Type is joined to PolicyFact..
Geography is joined to both Claim Fact and PolicyFact.
Here's how it looks.....
Product_Reporting_Line-----< Claim Fact >-------Geography--------< PolicyFact >-------Policy_Cover_Type
I have a report in which columns from all the tables have to be taken.
In the Fact tables F1 and F2, there are some columns for which aggregation rule is not set (varchar Data for example Claim Number from ClaimFact and Policy Number from PolicyFact).
How should I design BMM layer. I want to know how the content tabs should be set.
Can anybody suggest me how should I do this?

I didn't do it the other way, I did it the the way you suggested me..
I have set the content for the Policy_Fact LTS to the Total level of Product_Reporting_Line dimension.
also I have set the* content* for the ClaimFact LTS to the total level of Policy_Cover_Type.
When I set the level *(Level tab of logical columns properties)* of Measues to the total level then it works....
i.e.
I have set the levels of the logical columns of Policy Fact table to the total level of Product_Reporting_Line and also set the levels of the logical columns of Claim_Fact to the Total level of Policy_Cover_Type.
I want to ask you Do we have to set the content in the LTS as well as in the Level (tab) of the measures?

Help with displaying BLOBs in OBIEE 11g

I am trying to get OBIEE 11g to display photographs in an Analysis report. I know BLOB fields are not supported, and I have been reading posts on this board and following examples on internet sites that try to get round this problem. But, try as I might, I cannot get those pesky photos to display.
Below are all the steps I have followed. Sorry that there is a lot to read, but I was hoping that somebody has been successful in doing this, and may spot something in one of my steps that I am doing wrong.
ORACLE TRANSACTIONAL SOURCE_

*2) BMM Layer*
Dragged D_PERSON_PHOTO_LKUP across.
Renamed it to 'LkUp - Photo'
Ticked the 'lookup table' box
Removed the surrogate key
Kept USN as the Primary key
The icon shows it similar to a Fact table, with a yellow key and green arrow.
On Dimension table D_PERSON_DETAILS (Dim - P01 - Person Details) added a new logical column
Called it 'Photo'
Changed the column source to be derived from an expression.
Set the expression to be :
Lookup(DENSE
"People"."LkUp - Photo"."PHOTO",
"People"."Dim - P01 - Person Details"."USN" )
Icon now shows an 'fx' against it.
Note: This table also had it Surrogate key removed, and USN setting as primary key.
*3) Presentation Layer*
Dragged the new Photo field across.
Saved Repository file, uploaded, and restarted server.
ONLINE OBIEE_
Created a new Analysis.
Selected USN from 'Person Details'
Selected Photo from 'Person Details'
Selected a measure from the Fact table
Under column properties of Photo ( data format ) :
- Ticked 'Override Default Data Format' box
- Set to Image URL
- Custom text format changed to : @[html]"<img alt="" src=""@H"">"
Under column properties of Photo ( edit formula ) :
- Changed to : 'data:image/png;base64,'||"Person Details"."Photo"
The Advanced tab shows the sql as :

It doesn't seem to be using the Lookup table, but can't work out at which step I have gone wrong.

Thanks, yes I followed http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E28280_01/bi.1111/e10540/busmodlayer.htm#BGBDBDHI, but when I get to the part of setting the LOOKUP function on th Physical source, only ONE physical source is displayed. I need TWO sources ( The Employee Table, and the Photo LookUp.
I have raised this as an error with Oracle. We are now on OBIEE 11.1.1.7, but Oracle say BLOBS are still not supported in that release. It will be fixed in 11.1.1.8 and it will be backported into 11.1.1.6.11
In the meantime we have abandoned showing Photo's in any of our reports.

Sum Aggregation Error in Physical & BMM Layer in OBIEE 11g with Essbase 11

Hi everyone,
I'm using OBIEE 11g with Essbase 11 as the data source. I'm using Sample Basic database from the Essbase as my data source. If I'm using the hierarchy for the measures (so I don't flatten the measures), and when I changed the aggregation in both physical and BMM layer from Aggregate_External to Sum, I can't create a report at all from the Answers.
Does anyone encounter the same thing? Any ideas/solution about this? Please help.

But when I queried the dimensions one by one (only single dimension each), no error was shown.
This only happens if I use Sum in the physical and BMM layer. If I use External_Aggregation, these errors do not happen. And if I flatten the measures, these errors also do not happen.

Not able to find logical dimension tab in BMM layer in OBIEE 11G

Recently i ran in to a interested problem. We are using Oracle BI Administration Tool version 11.1.1.6.6, Repository Version:320.
I'm not able to see logical dimension tab to create dimensional hierarchy.
I followed normal method like all versions. Business model -> New Object -> (No logical dimension). I'm able to see logical display folder and logical Table.
I have only client tool on my machine. Please could anyone suggest me How should i resolve this problem.

I joined all dimensions to facts, and i'm sure that i'm trying to create hierarchy for dimension tables. In oracle Administration Tool Repository version : 308, i'm able to see logical dimension tab at BMM-> New Object ->Logical dimension.

Need Help in Union of Columns in FX

Hello Experts,
In database I have a table having two columns, Version From, Version To.
Column "Version Start" data is like
V0, V1, V2, V3, V4....upto V11 (fixed value)
Column "Version End" data is like
V1, V2, V3..... upto V11 (fixed value V0 is not present)
User requirement is like create two prompts on these columns and select the data
between these two fields and see the report. This is achieved by prompt and presentation variable.
But the problem is let say user select V1 from Version Start, then Version End prompt should show all values apart from V1.
If user select V2 then it should all value in Version End apart from V2.
I tried but it seems 'union' function does not work in rpd bmm, nor in fx in OBIEE 10g.
Can you all please help.

The easiest way to do this, and it could be done in a few minutes, would be to move to a currently supported version of Oracle, 11gR1 or 11gR2, where we have the PIVOT and UNPIVOT operators.
In the desupported version you have the best choice is to hit http://asktom.oracle.com and look up the solution he published there some years ago.
I don't have the link so you can find it as fast as I can but look under "pivot" and "crosstab."

Unable to create logical dimension in bmm layer

Hi all,
I am not able to create a logical dimension hierarchy in the bmm layer of the rpd.
when I right click on the table I am not able to find the create logical dimension option in the popup window.
could you please help me out in this?
In the logical table we have data from sql statement also.

Create Dimensions is only available if the selected logical table is a dimension table (defined by 1:N logical joins) and no dimension has been associated with this table.
To create a dimension automatically, the Administration Tool examines the logical
table sources and the column mappings in those sources and uses the joins between physical tables
in the logical table sources to determine logical levels and level keys.
Hope you have defined the Logical join in BMM before looking for this option. If joins are not defined, this option won't come.

BMM Logic to choose between two logical sources

Hi All - I am new to OBIEE and hope you can help me out with this problem.
I have a dim table (dimA) and an alias of dimA (dimB). Both of these tables are snowflakes off of two seperate "lookup" tables that join to the fact. I want to use dimA versus dimB based on logic, such as if the key to lookuptable1 does not exist, then use lookuptable2. I want to combine both tables into the same BMM logical table and presentation table. Is there way to build this in the BMM ( to choose dimA versus dimB)??

It seems your dimension is not joined to any facts. Did you check your BMM/physical joins?

Where condition for a column in BMM

Hi Gurus,
I have a requirement where in the BMM(The LTS for this logical table is say 'Fact'), I need a logical column with the following definition.
count(Dim.status) where Dim.status = ' Accepted' (I didnt add the Dim table to the LTS yet, should I?)
I know that we can do a count(Dim.status) in the column source . but for the where Dim.status = ' Accepted' part im not sure what to do.
Should I bring the Dim table as a LTS and define the 'where' condition in the content tab? will that work?
but what if I have another logical column where I need dim.Status = 'Declined'( we have many more status)

The suggest statement as Filter(count(Fact.Dollars) Using("dim.status = 'accepted'))
is based on Answers, this would care about the column is available in Subject Area or not thats it.
The same kind of functionality can get the using rpd.
There you might need to map/add (fact source properties and then map using pencil icon on 11g add button in 10g) the dim table to the fact
so that you can get the expression based on physical columns as
case when dim.status = 'accepted' then Fact.Dollars else 0 end
use Aggregate tab for sum;
Since you are using Fact.Dollars it suppose to be sum, ROW_WIDs go by counts

Drilldown in answers without creating dimensional hierarchy in BMM layer?

HELP! I have a main report like this:
title: Region EAST (prompted field- user entered: North, South.... )
heading: Departments Total Sales
rows: Meat (01) 500,000.00
Produce (02) 100,000.00
Organic Items(03) 250,000.00
Users wanted to ClLICK on either Meat, Produce or Organic Items field to get the detailed report on that particular dept. and would prefer to Click on the desired field than using department as a prompted field. :(
I did try to use the navigate function on Departments column to get to the detail report, but the results came back with ALL departments. Is it possible to drill down in answers without creating the dimensional hierarchy in BMM layer? If so, please show me how to create the link that would navigate to the detailed report when users CLICK on desired department, ex: Meat (01)? BTW, detailed report may came from different resources (data is in the detailed table...) and I still need to pass the region variable to the detailed report.
I really need a big help on this.

thank you for looking into this problem.
I did use the Navigate function on the 1st report, create a prompted filter on the depatment column (second report) but user can only click on the high lighted Department column header (on the first report) which navigated to the 2nd report and it displayed detail of all departments. Since users cannot click on a particular deptpartment, therefore I cannot pick up the value (01) for Meat department to pass thru the 2nd report. Is the Navigate function just works only when you click on the header column not on the data values in that column? do I need to set any other function to the department column on the 2nd report beside the filter?

Changing the LTS mapping in BMM layer to new Physical Alias table

I need to change the source table mapping in my BMM layer to new physical tables aliases.
I have finished BMM layer design (column name changes, business friendly names etc.) before actually creating the alias tables in the Physical layer and I know I hv to run for hiding now. I expected changing the logical source mapping to the new aliases will work but it's not the case though it works partially. Since the Column names are changed in the bmm, I have to manually change the Expression, Physical Table in the LTS column mapping tab for each non-matching name logical columns.
Column mapping is intact where both the BMM columns and the new Physical alias names match.
eg: CALENDER_YEAR(BMM) ---> CALENDAR_YEAR(Physical alias) mapping is intact but
Week Day(BMM) ---> WEEK_DAY(Physical alias) need to be changed manually.
Any tips/suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Tom,
I too do not see any other options here other than manually modifying the individual logical columns. When there is a new logical column, we have to map it manually to the physical column explicitly because the Admin tool will not know which physical column to pick up.

How to create count() measure for certain set of records in BMM Layer

I have a logical table like this one (Table AAA)

I need to calculate count() of records where Key is not NULL. In this example, this field must return coun() = 2.
I suppose, CASE operator may help me with that, but I do not know for sure how to do this.

But I must concretise my issue.
I need to calculate number of records (e.g. order_id) that sutisfy appropriate condition (one of columns (e.g. loy_member_id) is set to null).
I created logical column, that returns order_id if condition (loy_member_id is null) is met.
Look at my logical column:
Q Orders (LPM) - must return number of orders where loyalty_member_id is null.
It has an expression:
CASE WHEN NOT "Foxtrot (my) replica"."Sales Orders".LOY_MEMBER_ID IS NULL THEN "Foxtrot (my) replica"."Sales Orders".ORDER_ID ELSE NULL END
So, this returns order_id I need.
But the question is how to count number of order_id's returned by this column on BMM Layer.
When I define my column with next expression:
*COUNT(CASE WHEN NOT "Foxtrot (my) replica"."Sales Orders".LOY_MEMBER_ID IS NULL THEN "Foxtrot (my) replica"."Sales Orders".ORDER_ID ELSE NULL END)*
I receive error:
+[38083] The Attribute 'Q Orders LPM' defines a measure using an obsolete method.+

Create min(date) for Customer in BMM layer

Hi guys,
I need help in creating a first order date for a customer. I want to do this in BMM layer and use directly in reports.
How should i create this?

If you are doing in BMM you need to understand the schema
assuming you got fact,day, custmer tables
and these joined as star.
you need to create a metric on fact as min(day.date) and set content tab to customer level
for this you might have to map day dim to fact using fact source properties add day table.
once you done as I said:
just pull mindate metric in answers run it and check physical sql that should be like
select min(date),cust_name from
fact,day,customer
where 2 joins goes
group by cust_name
