BO4.1 universe with hierarhies on BEx query

Hi Team,
We have a BEx query with some hierarhies on top of it. We are trying to get those hierarhies into Webi but not able to succeed.
Scenario: we have defined a hierarhy in BW backend on object ZUSE and ZUSGR using the Function module. The Info object ZUSGR is not existing in the Info provider and Multiprovider but only ZUSE is available. Now we are trying to bring the hierarhy defined on ZUSGR. We are able to see the values for ZUSGR in WEBI while selecting the promt but when we drilldown it is going to the different object which is existing in the universe but not to the object ZUSE.
ZUSE: User ZUSGR: Usergroup; The hierarcy is Usergroup---->User
Please help me in getting this hierarhy...
Thank you in advance for your help...
Best regards,
Amarnath

Hello Amarnath ,
when connecting Web Intelligence to SAP BW there is no need at all to create a Universe. When it comes to the data connectivity from Web Intelligence to SAP BW you can point Web Intelligence directly to a BEx query and use the elements from the BEx query in Web Intelligence.
Also keep in mind that Web Intelligence will always struggle when it comes to using hierarchies and you might want to take a look at SAP BUsinessObjects Analysis, edition for Microsoft office or Analysis, edition for OLAP

  • How to replace # or Not assigned with blank in BEx Query Output.

    Hi,
While running the query through BEx Query desginer or Anlayser, I am getting # or Not assigned where there are no values.
The requirement is to "Replace # or Not assigned with a blank" in the output.
I want to know, is there any setting in BEx query desginer where we can do this. How to do this.
Please share your inputs on this. Any inputs on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Check out SDN-thread: "Re: Remove 'Not assigned'" for more details
    Ideas from SDN research:
"a solution i have used is to put each RKF column in a CKF colum then in each CKF use RKF + 0, the outcome is that your # should now be 0s, in the query properties you can set the option to display 0s as blank."

  • Designer is slow when generating a new universe based on a BEX query

    Hi
When we generate a universe on the basis of a BEX query, so it may take up to 30 minutes before we have a universe.

    Hi,
could you setup the tracing on the client with the Universe Designer and post a link that as the file for download ?
you can follow the note here for the tracing details:
    Windows : Note 1260004
also make sure that the client is on the same fixpack level as the backend

    Hi,
I have created Condition(Filter) for an Dimension Object "Submitted by Group Hierarchy" in Universe designer tool on top of SAP BEx Query and then exported the universe to Repository.
    <FILTER KEY="@Select(Submitted By Group Hierarchy\L01 Submitted By Group Hierarchy).[TECH_NAME]"><CONDITION OPERATORCONDITION="InList"><CONSTANT CAPTION="@Prompt('Submitted By Group ','A',' Submitted By Group Hierarchy\L01 Submitted By Group Hierarchy',multi,primary_key,,{‘Direct Sales’)"/></CONDITION></FILTER>
To test my custom filter , I have created WEBI report and its allowing input entry in my custom filter and output is also coming .
where as in Explorer, i am not able to enter input values for my custom filter as below.
Can anyone suggest me how to create custom filter in universe and use it in explorer.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ramana,
Please try using 'mono' in place of multi in @prompt syntax and then test.

  • Crystal Reports - Problem with too long BEx Query technical variable names?

    Hello!
I have Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 and the SAP BO Integration Kit XI 3.1 SP3 installed and want to access a BEx query on a BW system within my Crystal Report.
The problem is that the name of the BEx variable is not displayed correctly (just "[]" is displayed for the variable name) as a parameter within Crystal Reports when I import the query. Furthermore I can't navigate through the fields of the query within Crystal Reports.
The technical names of the BEx query-variables have a length of 12 characters.
The interessting thing is that if I change the technical names of the BEx query variables to a maximum length of 8 characters everything works fine.
I use the SAP toolbar within Crystal Reports 2008 to create the report and have the "MDX-driver"-setting selected.
Has anyone ever had the same problem? Any suggestions?
I don't want to change the technical names of the variables of my queries...
    thanks,
    Dominik

    Hi!
Just fixed the problem: The "Transports" for the Integration Kit had to be imported at the BW-System

  • Working with Result in BEx Query Designer

    Dear All,
I have a report showing sales amount customer wise. The result is aggregated for "total" sales amount. Now I want to use that value, total result value in a formula variable for calculation. Can that be done? How can I catch that result to work on it.
    Regards,
    Jack Silverz

    HI Jack,
The result values cannot be used in the formula variables. But it can be used in the calculated key figures using the Overall Result function.
    Hope this Helps.

  • Can not create Webi report on a Universe based on Bex Query

    Hi,
We are using BO XI 3.1 (FP 3.4) with SAP integration Kit (same Patch Level) with SAP Authentication. We have a Universe based on a bex query and its connection is set to use SSO.
We have say two SAP users U1 & U2. Now "U1" is able to create webi reports but when we Logged in as "U2" and try to create Webi reports or try to refresh reports created by U1 it through an error ...
The database error text is: (CS) "Error on NumResultCols" . (WIS 10901).....
As per the "Authorization" section in BusinessObjects XI Integration for SAP Solution Installation Guide we have provided this users with all the mention autherizations.
Any words over this will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,

It is highly probable that this is due to missing authorizations on the SAP BW side (not talking about the authroizations which are directly related to the BO/BW integration). I would recommend to ask your SAP Basis team to do a security trace while you are accessing the reports with the user, who gets the error. THey should look for failing authorization checks.

  • SubStr function in Universe on BEx Query

    Hi SAP BO experts,
We have a universe based on SAP BEx Query with an object  "WBS Element",  a 24 Character field from which we need to resolve certain sections as different objects for reporting purpose.  One of the objects required is first 8 chars (WBS Project No.)  Following code is used in object definition.
    <EXPRESSION>Substr(@Select(WBS Element\WBS Element), 1, 8)</EXPRESSION>
Parsing is OK at universe level.
Webi query without "WBS Project No" is running OK but when "WBS Project No" is used, I get an error - invalid MDX command (WIS 10901).
What is the correct syntax?  Any input will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Venkat

You can-not return characteristics via <EXPRESSION> tag.
In fact right now it is not possible to do substring and similar operations. You can only create objects which returns numeric
    value.

    Rohit

  • How To Guide : Impact of a BEx query change to universes and WebI document

Ever wondered about the impact of a BEx query change to your universes and Intelligence documents ? "If I change this, will I need to refresh the universe structure ? will my Web Intelligence documents break ?". This article aims at clarifying these questions for Web Intelligence documents that use OLAP Universe(s) based on BEx query(ies). More specifically, it clarifies which BEx query change does impact Universes and Web Intelligence documents and which one is transparent to them.
The first part of this article provides a summary table. The second part explains what to do to make the universe and Web Intelligence documents reflect the BEx query change. And finally, it covers each change scenario in details with more explanation and screen shots.

    Hi Rajesh J Salecha,
What I understood is like :
You have two queries and both gives same results but one of the query having a parameter.
You have one report which is using query1.  Now you want that report to be copied as Report2 and use Query2 instead of Query1.
If the this is the issue, then you copy Report1 as Report2 and go in Database and change the Data source location to Query2.
Hope this will help you.  If my understanding is wrong then give us the work flow.
    Thanks,
    Sastry

  • OLAP universe on top Bex query

    Hi all,
I have a Bex query with a single mandatory Hierarchy variable. This hierarchy variable was created over GL Account infoobject. I have to different active hierarchies.
I generated a OLAP universe based on this Bex query.
The problem is it doesn´t generate any sub-class for hierarchy and for level objects.
I can't see any filter in OLAP universe GL account dimension.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    David

    Hi Ingo,
    Thanks for your help.
Yes, I can see both hierarchies in result set when I run the query in RSRT.
Both hierarchies are not time dependent and very simples.
I made a lot of test (working with query designer 3x, query designer 7) and to me it is a problem with integration kit.
There is no filter related to my hierarchy characteristic, nor level generated in OLAP universe.
    Hope your comments.
    Regards
    David

  • Issue with webi report on BEx query

    Hi,
I have created a universe on top of Bex query.  There is no issue in creating and exporting the universe.  But when I try to create a webi report out that BEx query, I am not able to see the values.  Say if I have a column called "Company"  I am getting the value as "All Company" and so on.  What will be the issue?
But when a report is generated out of BEx analyser they are able to see the values properly.
Same user credentials are used in both the places (Importing the query into universe, Connecting to BEx Analyser) .
    Thanks & Regards,
    Subbu S

    Hi Subbu,
the universe will generate a L00 item and a L01 item. The L00 item shows the All member of the characteristic in the case of a flat list and the Top level nodes from a hierarchy. the L01 item should give you what you looking for.

  • Steps to create a Universe based on Bex query

    HI Gurus,
I am (first time ofcourse) creating a Universe based on a Bex Query. I searched on SDN to find steps to craete a universe on top of Bex query and found a document written by tej Trivedi and found other threads also which explains all the steps.
I understood from his document that in case of OLAP Universes the Structure pan would be empty. And I will not see joins etc..Is that true?
How can I make sure that I will see data?
    Regards

    Hi,
I believe this is a cross post from here Re: BEX Query Objects dont show in Universe  ?
So i will put my answer again:
    Hi,
If you can select your BEx query,  but the 'universe outline' in the webi query panel stays blank (i.e no available objects in the webi query panel)  then you don't have enough rights (authorizations) on the BW -side.
to prove it, try using a sap_all profile in the universe connection .
    regards,
    H
p.s. there is a large section on the required authorizations in the Admin guide.  Also a note covers it :  Note      1585948 - No objects are visible in the query panel when creating a report using Interactive Analysis or BI Launchpad

  • Can we restrict changes made in BEx query not to resemble in Universe

    Hello Gurus,
I have a question. Lets say if there is a universe created based on BEx query and if later on BEx query is changed (newly added Chars, KF's or change in names) can we restrict the changes not to resemble in Universe?
Please give me any related document or link which will be a big favor for me.
Thanks a lot for your time.

Changes in the BEx query are not reflected always automatically in your universe: Eg. if you add an new restriction or a new keyfigure. You have to maunally refresh the structure of your universe and export it again on your BOBJ server.
Some changes will be automatically available though eg. if you change the code of a customer exit variable which is already used in your BEx query, even if you do not refresh the universe.
Please keep in mind that some kind of changes in the query (removing existing key figures or characteristics) may cause error messages when you try to run your universe (assuming you did not update it).
The recommendation here is to refresh your universe when you change the underlying BEx query. If you do not want to do that then your universe may stop working.

    Stratos

  • BW Universe with multiple hierarchies issue

    Hi,
We created an OLAP universe off a BW BEx query that has 2 hierarchies enabled.  Hierarchy 1 is 12 levels deep while Hierarchy 2 is only 5 levels.  Level 00 was also generated for better hierarchy reporting.  In Web Intelligence reporting, Hierarchy 1 is required to report starting on Level 4 and then drill as needed so L00, L01, L02, L03, L04 was included in the report.  Hierarchy 2 is for grouping and only L00, L01 was included in the report along with key figures.  This Web Intelligence result set works fine [Hierarchy 1:  L00, L01, L02, L03, L04] , [Hierarchy 2: L00, L01] , measures/key figures.
If additional levels of Hierarchy 1 is added, at L06 and beyond, the query suddenly returns message "No Data to Fetch".  In BEx, it was confirmed the query does run with the exact same drilldowns as Web Intelligence and it works in BEx.  If Hierarchy 2 is removed from Web Intelligence, the report also can successfully fetch up to the lower levels up to L09.  If other flat objects are added, the Web Intelligence report still works fine, it seems to get "No Data to Fetch" when Hierarchy 2 is added.  Any information would be appreciated, thank you.
Issue:  Web Intelligence report with two BW hierarchies gets "No Data to fetch" if Hierarchy 1 goes lower than L06.
    Observations:
    1)  There are some empty nodes starting in Hierarchy 1 L06, but the Hierarchy 1 works fine by itself
    2)  The BEx and Universe has a hierarchy node variable prompt.  We filtered at lower hierarchy nodes, levels where there is data, but it still does not work with Hierarchy 2
    Environment:
    - BOE XI 3.1 SP2
    - SAP BI 7
    - BEx query (2 hierarchies), OLAP universe, Web Intelligence

Please refer to:  the below document page# 43.  Hope this helps!
