Bonjour printers don't appear in Add Printer

I have 4 Intel macs on my home network. They all run the newest version of Snow Leopard. I've kept up to date on all updates. I believe my current problem may have occurred after the latest OS X update or perhaps after the new Safari update. But I'm not absolutely certain it was related to applying any updates.
The problem is that on one of my 4 macs I cannot add any printers. If I try to add a printer through the System Preferences ("Printing and Faxing") none of my three printers shows up on the list. On all three of my other computers all three of my printers show up as "bonjour printer" options.
After doing my usual set of "fixes"-- zapping the PRAM, running FSCK -FY, restarting all of the involved devices, I finally took the step of completely re-installing Snow Leopard and adding all of the updates. This did not fix the problem.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
John

What happens if you start some type of sharing on the "problem" computer - iTunes Library sharing, File Sharing, or Screen Sharing - can the other 3 see what has been shared?

I have a default set excel is still throwing error. Interestingly winword , powerpoint and publisher are working fine. I am able to print from all office applications except Excel.
Probably excel behaves differently from other office applications.
Probably it is a bug in excel
Workaround : Log on to a system once using newly created account then runas excel using this account then print works fine.
It means something in user profile should be configure to run excel print operation. Could you please somebody help what I need to configure in user profile that makes print operation success?

Horizontal lines appear on photo printed on card stock; don't appear on photos printed on paper or other card stock.
What's the difference between the first card stock and the other card stock? What's the finish on the problem card stock? What printer are you using?  Does is have a physical adjustment for different stock thicknesses?

  • Managed Printers Don't Appear in Printer & Fax Preference Pane

Something curious to ponder. I've had this issue for a while now (though it's not a huge problem), where I have a managed Mac (managed via Mac OS X Server 10.6.8) that doesn't display the printers that have been added to a computer list via Workgroup Manager in the Mac's Printer & Fax preference pane. The printers do appear in CUPS (127.0.0.1:631), and the computer prints fine to the available printers, but they just don't appear in the preference pane. I've attached some screen shots for clarification.
    Computer list in Workgroup Manager
(even with the Only show managed printers option unchecked, nothing shows up in Printer & Fax)
    CUPS page on managed Mac
(All printers show up fine here)
    Print & Fax Preference Pane
(Printers don't show up here, why not?)
    Print dialog box in Safari
    (Printers show up here)
    Any ideas?

  • My deployed printers don't appear on the computers that are part of the security group

I use the Print Management role to deploy my printers to my users.
Because I only want those printers to appear on certain laptops/servers, I deployed them using the “Per machine GPO”
I created an “Office Printers” security group that contains those laptops/servers
I use this security group to filter my GPO (under Security Filtering)
The above used to work but after modifying and adding new printers, the printers are not getting deployed anymore.
    Here is what I see:
    - On the laptops/servers I am connecting to (I am the Domain Admin), I can see all the printers
    - On some user’s machine, no printers shows
    - On some user’s machine, only the printers that were listed in GPO before the changes do show
    gpresults –r shows different result:
    - Mine shows: Filtering : Denied (Security) even I see the printers
    - Some machines show: Filtering:  Not Applied (Unknown Reason)
    - Some machines don’t show the GPO at all

    Hi,
Before posting my question, i ran gpresult /force and rebooted the machines several times.
I resolved my issue yesterday by "chance":
    - since the deployment was failing using the deploy to GP feature in Print Management, I decided to try to deploy them by using directly GPMC.
    - I discovered that the printer that I added few days ago was not marked as "shared" (I did not think that it was an issue because I assumed that the Print Management did not need this setting to be set). Since the others were shared, I decided to share
    this one as well.
    >>>> that resolved the issue: the printers appeared on all the machines as expected.
I feel that MS should look into this behavior:
    - Deployment of the printers should not fail if one is not shared
    - if sharing is a must to use this feature, deploying the printer from the Print Management should bring an error.
    Thanks

  • "Bonjour Printers" missing from  "Printer:" pull-down in Print dialog box

One of our users has recently lost the ability to add Bonjour printers. For example, if he presses Command-p to open the Print dialog box, then clicks on the arrows icon to produce the list of available printers, the "Bonjour Printers" option does not appear in the list. None of the others in our small group (six of us, all with identical 1.67Ghz G4 Powerbooks running identical OSX versions - 10.4.3 with all updates applied) have experienced this problem. The user in question reports seeing the expected Bonjour option in the recent past and claims to have installed noting more than the recommended OSX updates in the mean time.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chance

    Thanks for the reply.
Our user's problem was "fixed" when he arrived at work a day later and happened to look in the pirnter menu only to discover that the "Bonjour Printers" option had reappeared. He had made no configuration changes in the mean time.
I can confirm that he wasn't imagining things in either instance. In fact, we used Bonjour Browser when things were broken and again after they were "fixed". In the former case, only two or three Bonjour items were listed, while in the latter there were 13 local services, including the Print Spooler.
All our Macs get their IP configuration via DHCP, so it is possible that various network configuration changes were made without our intervention. Nonetheless, this is very odd behavior.

  • Canon LBP6000 print driver - no printer appears in the 'add printer' section'  I have installed Mac CAPT Ve r340 and nothing shows.r

I was having problems printing from my Canon LBP6000.  Print jobs remained held in the queue.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the Mac CAPT Ve r340 driver from Canon's website, no improvement.  The printer works fine with my Windows laptop.
I found an option to remove all printers from the Print preferences section. I can't remember how I did this, but all printers were removed.  I reinstalled the above driver, but now in the 'print & scan' - 'add printer' section, I have no printer options.  And no idea how to get printer options.  So very open to advice.
    Thanks
    T.

The ability to see the LBP6000 in the Add Printer view is not reliant on the printer driver but the USB cable. If you have the printers USB cable connected directly to the Mac, as opposed to having it connected to the Windows computer you mention or to some sort of USB hub, then it should appear in the Add Printer > Default view. If it does not show, then try another USB cable. You can also open System Information on the Mac and select the USB section in the left column. Then in the top right pane you will see all the USB busses on the Mac and the LBP should be seen under one of the busses if the USB cable is okay.
With regards to the action to remove all printers, I would bet that you performed a reset of the printing system.

  • No "Bonjour" when trying to add printer...

I'm trying to add my HP PSC-printer to print over Airport. I know compatibility is limited for these models, but back on Panther I got it to work, so it should be possible.
However, when I try to add it, I can't find the "Bonjour" menu... I open printer-utilities - and click add; and I get the following possible selections:
Standard-browser: no selections possible - just a list with only "Adobe PDF" on it.
IP-printer: LPD, IPP, HP Jet Direct
    Shouldn't Bonjour be here somewhere?
    Thanks...

One more question though; when I enter Print
Utilities and click "More printers" in the
standard-browser, there's an option called "HP IP
    Printing"
...which is used when using an HP Print Server or printer with integrated print server.

  • Layout option doesn't work in Easy Print VI panel, controls on tabs don't appear

Found two problems with the Report Generation VIs:
    1) In the (Report Generation) Easy Print VI Panel or Documentation.vi, the Layout options don't work (dug down into the sub-VI's and found that they are not connected to anything).
    2) If you have controls or indicators on a Tab Control, and try to use the Easy Print VI Panel or Documentation.vi with the option to include controls in the report, they don't appear. The only controls/indicators that do appear are the ones that are displayed on all of the tabs (ie, create an control and move it on top of the tab control so that it appears on every page).  There is a sub-VI (Expand_control_ref_with_nested_controls.vi) that is called to handle nested controls (ie, clusters, arrays,etc...) but it should have a case to handle tab controls.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey Sajosie,
Digging into the Sub-VI's you are correct in saying that the Layout Options user input is not connected to anything for most cases. However, In the default case of "Quick Print" the Layout Options are used to modify the layout of the report. In the help for this VI, it mentions that this input is ignored for "Standard Reports" and "HTML" report options. However, it does not mention that this ignoring of the Layout Options is expected for "Word" or "Excel" reports.
In terms of including controls and indicators in the report that appear on tab controls, I can make a product suggestion to make this sort of front panel design more compatible with the Easy Print VI Panel or Documentation.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have Adobe Reader X on Windows Vista. Why doesn't the Printer for Adobe PDF show up in my Hardware/printers? Or can I add it to the Hardware/Printers?

I have Adobe Reader X in Windows Vista. Why doesn't the Adobe PDF show up as a printer in my Hardware/Printers? Or can I add it to the Hardware/Printers? And how?

Adobe Reader - FREE - reads PDF files, prints them, fills forms.
Adobe Acrobat - $$ - as Reader, and makes PDFs and edits them, sorta, and does a bunch more.
So if you had Acrobat try and find the license to avoid having to pay again...

  • Why don't installed SSIS Add-ins appear in either the Toolbox or SSIS Toolbox?

    Greetings!
Why don't installed SSIS Add-ins appear in either the Toolbox or SSIS Toolbox? I have restarted Visual Studio and (heard this might work) restarted the SSIS service, but I still never see any installed add-in.
    Thank you.
    ---------------- GeorgeS, aka "SQLPadawan"

    Hi George,
What’s the version of your SQL Server? If the SQL Server Integration Services version is 2012, we should use SSDT which can be installed from Shared Features or SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 which should be installed
separately or installed within Professional, Ultimate, or Premium Edition of Visual Studio 2012.
If the SQL Server Integration Services version is 2014(except Microsoft SQL Server 2014 CTP2), we can only use this tool Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013.
The difference between SSDT for Visual Studio versions as below:
SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2013 (SSDT-BI for SQL Server 2014) will support various SQL Server versions as follows:
SSAS projects can target SQL Server 2014 or lower
SSRS projects can target SQL Server 2014 or lower
SSIS projects can target only SQL Server 2014
SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server Data Tools - Visual Studio 2010 support versions of SQL Server as follows:
SSAS project can target SQL 2012 or lower
SSRS project can target SQL 2012 or lower
SSIS project can target only SQL 2012
So please open the right SQL Server Data Tools, then based on the SQL Server version to refresh the component. For more details, please see blog post by Vaibhav.

You are technically way ahead of me, so I can't argue with what you did.
How about an even simpler WiFi network consisting of only the AirPort connected by an Ethernet cable to the printer?  If the iPad still can't find the printer when connected to this network, then something is broken!
(Also try a different Ethernet cable.)
