Book and File Conditional Text Tags Don't Match

In Framemaker 10 (TCS 3, Windows 7 64-bit), when I click on a document in a the book (& View>Show/Hide Conditional Text), an extra conditional text tag shows up that doesn't exist in the document Show/Hide Conditional Text.
For example:
In the book, My Book.book, I select Chapter1.fm (but don't open it).
Then I open the Show/Hide Conditional Text panel (View>Show/Hide Conditional Text)
I see these two condition tags, Hide Text and HideText. I use Hide Text but not HideText.Apparently, at some point I changed the name of the condition tag.
Then I open Chapter1.fm.
When I open the Show/Hide Conditional Text panel, HideText isn't there.
What I want to do is to delete HideText (the one I don't use), but I can't find ourt how to do it. any ideas out there?
One more bit of information that might help figure out what's going on:
I select Chapter1.fm in the book.
Then I select Show as per condition in the Show/hide Conditional Text panel.
Select HideText in the Hide field.
Click the left arrow (<--) to move HideText to the Show field.
Click Apply.
I get this error message in the Book Error Log:
Cannot show the following tags because they do not exist in this document
So, can anyone tell me how to get rid of HideText from the book files?
Thanks!
John N.

John, some troubleshooting questions:
1. did all of the file(s) originate from FM10 or were any from previous versions? Did you import previous version content? Slight naming differences between FM versions is an insidious problem that many of us here can relate to ... If any of the files were from previous versions, I would start with testing FM10 original content itself, to see what naming convention FM10 starts with.
2. if you want to dive into the innards of your problem files, you might use the venerable MIFBrowser, a freebie from
http://www.wideman-one.com/gw/tech/framemaker/mifbrowse.htm
Although it hasn't been updated in a loooooong time, it should still work perfectly with FM10 MIF files.  It's just a viewer, not an editor, but it will help you get a handle on both the conditional tags in-situ, in comparison to the tag as defined in the condition catalog section.
MIF is a bit daunting if you've never looked at it, but with MIFBrowse the various sections of content are more easily viewable.
3. With copies of your FM files safely backed up you could then edit the conditions in the.MIF files in a text editor (or by using FM itself, although this takes some special care to ensure that the file remains as text. I personally fine text editors (e.g. NotepadPlus or EmEditor) easier to use because viewing line numbers helps when trying to sync between what you see in the MIFBrowse display vs. actually edit the content.
4. It's also possible to save the .book file as .mif to then examine/edit the conditional tag catalog with a text editor. You could copy the "missing" conditional definition from one of the chapters into the .book file.

  • Multiple Conditional Text Tags on One section

I'm composing a document with 3 conditional text tags. There
are instances where I need to conditionalize something as Tag 1 and
Tag 2 but doesn't apply for Tag 3. Robohelp seems to allow me to
apply 2 tags to one section of text, but when I generate my .chm it
doesn't include anything that has been given two tags. Is there a
way for robohelp to support this?
Is there something I should be doing differently?
    I'm using Robohelp 5X.
    Thanks,

    Harvey,
I think you may have misunderstood me. If you apply tags A
and B to some text, and you build an exclusionary expression like
    "NOT A," the text will
not appear in the output. (See rule #1 in my exclusionary
list: any text tagged with an excluded tag will be excluded, even
if other tags are applied.) If you build an inclusionary expression
    like "B," the text
will appear. (See rule #1 in my inclusionary list: any text
tagged with an included tag will be included, even if other tags
    are applied.)
So I don't think "include trumps exclude" in this sense. But
consider the following expressions in a 3-tag environment:
    * A OR B
    * NOT C
Logically, these might seem equivalent. But they aren't, and
RoboHelp doesn't treat them as equivalent. Let's assume that you've
created every possible set of tag combinations for this project: A,
    B, C, A and B, A and C, B and C, all 3 tags (A, B, and C), and
untagged. Here's a look at what would be included in the output for
    each build expression:
    A OR B:
    A
    B
    A and B
    A and C
    B and C
    A, B, and C
    Untagged text
    NOT C:
    A
    B
    A and B
    Untagged text
When people say that RoboHelp's boolean operators "don't work
right," I think they mean that expressions that seem logically
equivalent (such as these two) produce different output. Without an
understanding of how the rules are applied, a user can easily build
expressions that seem right but produce the "wrong" output. In
fact, the output is correct according to the rules.
Again, I wouldn't say that "include trumps exclude," although
I think I understand what you're getting at. The difference lies in
    the application of rule #1.
I tested a simple 3-tag environment yesterday with printed
documentation and CHM files, and the expressions worked as
indicated. I didn't try WebHelp, but I've used similar expressions
before, and I feel comfortable saying that WebHelp will also work
as I've described it. Also, note that we're dealing with very
simple expressions here; complicated expressions require more care.
But most RH users can generate the desired output with a few simple
    expressions. Especially inclusionary expressions.

  • Removing conditional text tags in a batch

    Hi everyone, using TCS2 on Win-7 64-bit.
We have been using some conditional text tags in our writing, and now we are looking at adding a few new ones and taking a few away. Is there a way to remove a batch of conditional text tags from a whole bunch of FM documents, all at once? It is a tedious process to do it manually, doc per doc, tag per tag... wondering if there is a script, or anything like that?
    Thanks,
    Adriana

I believe there are a couple of utilities to manage conditional tags; you might try searching Leximation's tool list:
    http://www.leximation.com
And, there could definitely be Framescript-based scripts, either generic or written customized for your requirements. Here's the FrameScript group:

  • FM 10 Crashing when applying conditional text tag

    Hello everyone.
For some reason, FM keeps crashing when I try to apply a conditional text tag to a table (entire table). The funny thing is I have been doing this same thing for three months now with no problems before today, even have two tables in the same document with different tags applied to them and they are working fine.  But when I try to add this one, I crash. I have rebooted my computer and made sure all my drivers are up to date, but now I'm at a loss.  Any help?
    Thanks.

Yes, I can apply the tag to the pictures in the document, its only when applying to the table. I am selecting all rows in the table with the mouse and then selecting the tag, clicking the radio button "in" and then clicking the "Apply" button.  It then asks "apply condition tag settings to all rows in table?" I hit "ok" and then it freezes, screen shots provided.
Pic 1: My project at table causing problems.
Pic 2: Me selecting the table and choosing to apply tag.
Pic 3: Me affirming I want to apply the condition to all rows.
    Pic 4: Program stops responding.

I am making a book and only have 23 pages done.  I keep hitting the plus sign to add pages and no knew pages appear.  Help

Assuming you have iPhoto 9 (11) give this a try: make a temporary, backup copy of the library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Since only one option can be run at a time start with #3 followed by #4 and #1 as needed.
3 - try adding a page after each fix.

  • (FM8p277) Crashes when saving first doc in book after changing conditional text display

    That was a mouthful :-)
Okay, this happens with any of the books that I work on --- it never happened with Frame 7.
I have a book containing several documents.
The documents contain several conditional text segments.
Start new Framemaker session, open book, open all documents.
Change conditional text display (from Show All to Show Selected, or vice-versa).
From the book, choose Save All (or from the *first* document, choose Save). The following text appears in a 'FrameMaker dialog': "File <filename of first document>.fm has changed on the disk since you last opened or saved it. Someone else has probably modified the file. Do you want to save it anyway?
Click OK. All of the files save properly. (If I had clicked Cancel, the first file would be skipped and all other files would save.)
Change conditional text display again (note: this could even be for a different book at this point, I believe, but will have to verify).
(Repeat step 3): The same text appears again in the dialog.
Click OK. FrameMaker crashes while trying to save the first file. (If I had clicked Cancel, the first file would be skipped and all other files would save. However, if I attempt to save the first file afterward, FrameMaker still crashes.)
Anybody have any insight into this? Am I the only one this happens to? Argh :-)
    Thanks.

Sorry, the only answers I got were on the forum and nothing worked
That being said, at least now I know I'm not crazy! (Sorry it had to
    happen to you, though.)
As it stands, I've been training myself to make sure that after the
first time I toggle the settings, I do the save, and then make sure to
save all, quit, and restart FrameMaker before I attempt another toggle.
On the odd occasion that I don't do that and get the warning message, I
select Cancel (which lets the rest of the files save), quit, restart,
and then make sure I update the first document appropriately.
All the while cursing and swearing, of course
As an aside... if you find a solution, please let me know about it if
    you remember.
    Thanks.

  • RH and FM conditional text

I am evaluating alternatives to our old WWP setup. With that
setup, we were able to process our conditional FM source
automatically into various outputs. The WWP project file interacted
with FM to control the conditional settings for different jobs.
With RH 7 for HTML, acccoring to the online help, we must set
the conditions manually in Frame before we run RH. Is this correct?

Thanks. At this point, I'm trying to figure out what to do
    first.
The Help says to apply FrameMaker Conditional Text Build
Expressions before adding any FrameMaker files. Since I haven't
added any FM files, RH can't have any information about the
conditional tags we've defined in FM. Does this mean I have to
define some conditional expressions in RoboHelp to match the ones
we're using in FM, and then use these RH expressions when importing
    the FM files?
The RH Help says that when I select the "Apply FrameMaker
Conditional Text Build Expression" option, "only the filtered
content is imported into RoboHelp, based on the conditional text
build expression." This suggests that I can use one expression to
load one "flavour" of my FM document into the RH project. It
implies that if I want a separate flavour for a separate output, I
will have to change the expression and add the FM files again. Is
    that correct?
Does it make a difference how the conditions have been set in
the FM files when I add the files to RH?
What is the FrameMaker Conditional Text Build Expression? Do
I need to create a build expression named "FrameMaker" for use when
    adding FrameMaker files?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm having a hard time
    following the Help.

  • Can't select more than ONE conditional text tag in FrameMaker 10?

Hi, I work with lots and lots of Conditional Text (CT) tags in FrameMaker. We moved to v10, and now I can't select more than ONE CT tag at a time---this means when I need to apply 10 CT tags to one item, I have to select the item, click one tag, click In, and then click Apply---3 clicks, 10 separate times = 30 clicks! (I used to be able to select the item, select all the CT tags I wanted applied into the In box, and then click Apply.) This is very frustrating. I've tried to click all the Ctrl, Shift, and Alt keys separately and then try and select more than one tag, but nothing works. Please help---this is going to be a nightmare for me if this can't work!
Please help and show me that I can add more than one tag to an item at a time. Thanks so much!!!

Unfortunately, this capabiliy wasn't carried over to the Conditional Text pod when the new interface design was created. You're stuck selecting the tags one at a time and then applying a condition. It's a bit faster if you select the conditions sequentially, then you have fewer clicks for applying subsequent tags to the same content.
I fully agree that this sucks.

  • Alphabetize conditional text tags

Is it possible to rearrange the tags in the Conditional Text pod so that they are alphabetized?

Assuming that they are presented in the same order as they appear in the data structures, it should be possible to save the document as MIF and reorder all the
    <Condition ...  > # end of Condition
    tags inside
    <ConditionCatalog ... > # end of ConditionCatalog
then re-save the MIF, open and re-save as .FM.

  • File Write Keyword Tag don't create a xmp file

    Hi,
    I use PSE 8 with WIN7 64 Ultimate.
When I used the  File > Write Keyword Tag command, no xmp file is created. I saw, that the filename was renamed to xxx_edTMP-1.NEF for a short time and than the original name is show. The changedate of the file is not changed Sometimes the file is not renamed the new name is xxxx_edTMP-1.NEF.
    Why?
    Nils

I assume that you are trying to write tags assigned to a Raw original.
There is a bug that sometimes PSE does not write tags (or other metadata) to .xmp for Raw files. This usually depends on the type of file; this command never seems to work for .NEF files.
A workaround is to use John R Ellis's psedbtool

  • Windows 7 and Mac Lion partition maps don't match

I recently upgraded the hard drive in my late 2008 Macbook, and I wanted to copy both my Windows 7 and OSX Lion partitions. I used Time Machine to back up my Lion partition and Windows Backup to back up 7. Then I switched the hard drives, restored Lion with no problem, partitioned the drive into two bigger parts than were on the old harddrive, and restored 7. My problem is this; Disk Utility in Lion shows the correct partition sizes (420 GB for Lion, 480ish for 7), but the Windows 7 Disk Management shows the old partition size (150ish for Lion, 160ish for 7). The rest is just shown as free space. I've tried using the "extend file system into free space" option in Windows 7's Disk Management, but that overwrites most of Lion's data (since Disk Management thinks that its free space). My question is how do I get the partition maps to sync up? I have rEFIt, but when I tell it to sync partition tables, Windows 7 crashes and won't start without a reboot. I'm starting to hate Windows 7...

From your posts I assume that you have 3 drives:
drive A - new internal with MacOSX and Boot Camp/Windows partitions.
drive B - the original internal with MacOSX and Boot Camp/Windows partitions.
Back up external drive(s) with TimeMachine  and Windows Backup.
Forget the Backup Drive(s) for now.
You will need a way to connect the original drive to the Mac via USB . If it is not in an enclosure then one of these connectors will do the job.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/U3NVSPATA/
    http://www.granitedigital.com/usb20tosataideharddrivebridgeadapter.aspx
I think you will need to use Winclone as Paragon is a windows startup application and I don't dee how you can do that unless you reinstall the original drive B (can't start Windows from an external drive). There is a Paragon recovery CD you can burn but I don't know what the limitations are with burning from the Mac. Maybe check with the company.
Since drive-A has a good mac OSX install you need to clone the Boot Camp/Windows partition from the original drive-B to new drive-A. You should start up from drive-A and connect drive-B. Use Winclone to replace the drive-A Boot Camp partition with the original drive-B Boot Camp partition.
If the Paragon recovery cd will work then you start from this disk and clone the original drive-B Boot Camp Partition to the new drive-A Boot Camp Partition.

  • Ownership and permissions of Mac users don´t match windows

    Hi
I have ownership and permissions problem on Windows. Hopefully anyone can help.
I created a user and gave the user permissions
1- NOT ALLOW TO SAVE FILES ON THE DESKTOP -->READ ONLY
The ownership and permissions only work on Mac OS machine. and DON´T WORK ON Microsoft Windows machines.
Anyone can tell me what I have to do and stop the problem.
    Thank you
    Regards
    Tri

The Desktop folders on Mac and Windows machines are in different locations, so you will need to change permissions in both locations for this to work.
For Mac, the Desktop is ~/Desktop, for Windows it is located in the User Profile, under the Desktop folder.

  • DVD Map Buttons Order and DVD Player Titles Order Don't Match

I created a DVD with 9 movies, movie1.mov… movie9.mov, etc. consecutively, using the “Chapters” type screen of a template as the menu. The DVD Map shows the movie buttons arranged in numeric order. On the menu, they are left to right, top to bottom in 3 rows x 3 columns:
    1 2 3
    4 5 6
    7 8 9
I then saved the disc image. One may expect in DVD Player > Go > Title, the numbers correspond to the movie button numbers.
THEY DO NOT!! Instead, here is the sequence:
    Title 1 = Movie 1
    Title 2 = Movie 5
    Title 3 = Movie 2
    Title 4 = Movie 9
    Title 5 = Movie 7
    Title 6 = Movie 6
    Title 7 = Movie 3
    Title 8 = Movie 4
    Title 9 = Movie 8
    or, conversely,
    Movie 1 = Title 1
    Movie 2 = Title 3
    Movie 3 = Title 7
    Movie 4 = Title 8
    Movie 5 = Title 2
    Movie 6 = Title 6
    Movie 7 = Title 5
    Movie 8 = Title 9
    Movie 9 = Title 4
Since DVD Map does not allow you to rearrange the movie buttons in the flow map, I rearranged the movie buttons in the menu in this layout and saved as another disc image:
    1 5 2
    9 7 6
    3 4 8
But now, it screws up again:
    Title 1 = Movie 9
    Title 2 = Movie 1
    Title 3 = Movie 7
    Title 4 = Movie 6
    Title 5 = Movie 3
    Title 6 = Movie 5
    Title 7 = Movie 2
    Title 8 = Movie 4
    Title 9 = Movie 8
    Can someone explain?

    Hi Jay
    Welcome to apple discussions.
The order added normally determines the order of the buttons.
However, if one happens to move the buttons around in such a way that the space of multiple buttons should overlap (even slightly), odd things can happen to this normally sequential order. The reason for this is that iDvd takes it upon itself to correct these overlapping text object 'flaws' prior to going forward. One must keep in mind that each button's space is actually a little bit larger than the icon and it's actual text area. If this space (which can be nearly invisible to the causal user) should overlap with another, then odd things start to happen with button order (as you have witnessed above). I'm not sure if there is a guaranteed approach to iDvd's random button order issue, short of upgrading to a beefier app like DVDSP.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Admin username and Home Sharing & Permissions name don't match

When I originally installed the OS on my iMac and MacBook, since I entered my full first and last names, that became my Admin user name. While attempting to address a 10.5.6 upgrade problem [below fyi], I used Accounts Preference on both to change to Jim (Me). This didn't solve the problem and, wanting to type less, I changed both to just Me. However, now when I Get Info on my Home directory and examine Sharing & Permissions, it still lists Jim (Me). Why didn't that change? Can I change it? Does it matter?
My problem: After "upgrading" to 10.5.6, I can't "see" my Home directory on either Mac when connecting via AirPort or Firewire. On both machines, I have set prefs so the Home directory is shared. I select the Shared file server in the Finder. (Oddly enough, the default name that appears when I attempt to connect is just Jim and, no matter what I enter, the next time I try to connect, it defaults to Jim.) Anyway, I enter my username and password. I see the home directory of that Mac as well as the other Mac. I select the other Mac but the only User directory that appears is the Shared directory -- my Home directory doesn't appear. (It did under 10.5.5 so I'm stymied.)

To fix this (so my files would show) I used NetInfo Manager to change the admin and user values.
If you change the name(not home) property of an administrator account without updating the membership of the admin group, that account will lose administrator access to the machine; it is possible to create a situation where there are no administrator accounts on the machine through this method. In this case, follow these instructions on one of the accounts which previously had administrator access.

  • CPU-Z and Control Center II Values Don't Match

I've been attempting to achieve a modest overclock with my P67A-GD65 and 2500k with stock cooler. I tried OC Genie briefly and also tried a manual overclock up to 3.8, just to see what would happen. In both cases, Control Center reports my overclock at what I expect, and in the BIOS screen I see the overclock. But, CPU-Z, and pretty much everything else on my Windows 7 build report no change in the clock speed from default. It wavers around the default 3.3ghz in CPU-Z, Windows reports 3.3ghz, etc.
When I run Prime95 and watch temps with SpeedFan, there's a definite increase in my core temps when I've got my overclocking enabled vs. when it's not, which leads me to believe the overclock is actually doing something. Is there some way this board could be keeping the true clock speeds to itself and not letting the rest of the system know? I'm stumped.
I also noticed that no matter the settings, my clock speed doesn't seem to go down at idle. What settings should I be using to enable power management? I think I've got them enabled but it's not working. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't see the CPU clock ramp up at all. I don't see it fluctuate in CPU-Z more than by about .2MHz, always sitting around 3.3GHz. This is while running Prime95 of course. What I'm saying is, some programs, such as Control Center and even 3DMark report my overclock appropriately. Windows I can understand might not display the overclock, but CPU-Z SHOULD show the overclock and it doesn't, and neither does SpeedFan. What DOES happen though is my highest temps skyrocket while running Prime95 during the overclock. When I leave the BIOS settings on the default 3.3, SpeedFan reports my highest core temp at 70C (which incidentally seems really high to me). When I overclock to 3.8, my highest temps go up into the high 70s, so I KNOW something is heating up the CPU considerably more, which can only be the overclock. Why is it that CPU-Z always reports 3.3GHz though, even when at the same time I'm measuring much higher temps than at the default clock during Prime95?
