Book features in iDVD ?

Hi all,
I have spent all afternon looking at existing posts but could not find any satisfactory answer to my problem.
I created a book in iphoto and sent it to iDVD. It is read as a movie there and the "slideshow" has very poor photo quality. The photo quality seems to be an issue met by many. I have read suggestion to export slideshows to Quick time, then import in iDVD. However it doesn't seem to be possible to export a book. An album, yes, not a book. Yet I like the book features (nice background, several photos per slide and find it very frustrating not to be able t have that in iDVD (in a good enough quality).
Any idea ? Thanks a lot in advance and sorry if I missed the answer somewhere in the previous posts.

Hey struggling (love your name by the way!)
As I said, I use the book feature a lot and send it to iDVD and don't have too many problems with the end product (perhaps the photo's are marginally reduced in quality but that's about it). If you are looking for variety for your slideshows have a look at FotoMagico (you can download a free demo version to play with).
With your poor quality "book" presentations in iDVD - is the quality poor on viewing in iDVD, or when you actually burn the disk? I ask this because often what looks poor on your computer actually is quite good on a tv.

  • Updating index from Word file in Book feature

I prepared a book using the book feature. 15 chapter files making up the book. The client is going to supply the Index as a Word file with page numbers from his book's word file, which I was hoping to spill into a file in the book and Update the page numbers. I have done this when the book is all one file, but will it work in the book feature? Also, what if a thread is broken somewhere (there were lots of photographs and I think that may have happened a few times). Will that effect the indexes ability to update the page numbers (provided it even works in the Book feature)?
    Thanks!

That's No Good. The page numbers as they were in the original Word file are worthless.
.. which I was hoping to spill into a file in the book and Update the page numbers.
InDesign cannot update the page numbers in an index that was created with Word.
I have done this when the book is all one file, but will it work in the book feature?
Uh. Perhaps you did not (see above). Only if you made this index entirely in InDesign is when that's possible. (But yeah, "Include Book" is an option in the Generate Index dialog.)
Also, what if a thread is broken somewhere (there were lots of photographs and I think that may have happened a few times). Will that effect the indexes ability to update the page numbers (provided it even works in the Book feature)?
Proper or improper threading is not a problem.
The problem is you must distinguish between an index made in Word and one made in InDesign -- and I mean "made with", not just "typed in". If your writer supplies you an index made in Word, you can throw it out of the window. What good are his page numbers to you? You can only mimick his index (sort of) if your processed InDesign files still contain the original Index Markers that the author used in Word, and then you are using the same workflow, not "updating the author's index".
If there are no index markers in your InDesign files, that's where it stops for you. Perhaps you want to insert them, one by one, in their original location (using the supplied index as a guide) -- only then you can create an up-to-date index with InDesign and using your page numbers.
There is another option: if your author used Word's features to generate the index with, he could try the opposite. That is, you hand him a PDF of the latest version of your book, and he inserts page breaks and adjusts page numbering in his Word document to match yours, word by word. This can be done quite fast because all other formatting is not important -- it's the What's on this Page Number that counts. When done, the author can use Word again to re-generate the index, and hey! the page numbers will match the final version!
Of course this only works when the author actually used Word's native indexing facility -- if he typed in each entry and its associated page numbers, you got yourself quite a job trying to find what word went where in your version.

  • 11i Oracle Assets - Security by Book feature :(

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up Security by book feature in a 11i installation. I have the White Paper with me that is guiding me through this. My problem is this.
When i'm creating organisations (its a new organistaion), I selected Asset Organisation for the particular organisation. But when i click the 'Others' tab to add the Book the following error message is displayed.
Function not available to this responsibility. Change responsibilities or contact your Sys Admin.
I have the sys admin responsibility as well and i checked to see that no other profile option has been attached to this responsibility. What might be the reason for this?

    Hi Hussein,
I tried all three suggestions but still i keep getting the same result. In the first suggestion it says i have to create a new custom menu by attaching the 'HR Shared Organization functions' Submenu
I did so and created a new custom responsibility by attaching this new custom menu and selecting the application as Oracle Assets. Now in this new responsibility there are no FA features. Just the custom menu that i defined. Did i do this correct?

  • The "look inside this book" feature at Amazon quit working

Recently the"look inside this book" feature at Amazon.com quit working. I don't know why I've been able to use it for the past couple of years with firefox browser no problem. Now it wont work any more. Someone at yahoo answers had the same problem and someone suggested they use Internet Explorer. I tired this an now all the features are working again, but I life the firefox browser and don't want to change back to IE. So, I'm thinking there is something not compatible with the firefox browser and this Amazon feature but I don't know what changed. When I go to Amazon's site and click on a book that offers the preview feature, click on the "look inside" nothing happens. That's the problem.
    Sincerely,
    Paula

  • OT: Does Quark have a book feature?

I have to export (or print?) close to a thousand Quark documents to PDF.
It's about 30 books split to 20-30 documents. Does Quark have a book
feature or something that would allow me to export whole books at once?

Yes, I wouldn't suggest using GREP styles to set up huge kerning tables, but let me give you a couple of examples. The first isn't actually a pair, but my client likes to have some air around em-dashes. So, I have set up a character style named Tracking75 and a GREP style that does this:
    Apply Style: Tracking75
    To Text: .~_
This actually applies +75 tracking to any character that is followed by an em-dash and the em-dash that follows it, thereby giving the em-dash some air.
I also have a CustomKernPair'" character style that I use to add 50 units of tracking to the pair :
    ApplyStyle: CustomKernPair
    to Text: ~](?=~})
In this case, the tracking is applied to just the single right quote when it is followed by a double right quote because of the use of the positive lookahead to locate the second character.
This could be extended as far as you like, but it would quickly get unwieldy if you tried to apply it to more than a handful of pairs; there's also a potential performance issue if you go crazy. And there's no method (other than Based-on inheritance) to quickly get a bunch of these out of one style into another -- but a script could help with that.

  • Dilemma: use the "book" feature or not?

    Hello everyone,
I’ve been doing book layouts for some time, and I’ve come up with a huge dilemma. I learned to work with only one big file, without using InDesign’s book feature. Actually, I’ve always thought this feature was usefull only for the companies where there are many people working on the same book or when you have a really huge book with tons of pictures that your computer isn’t strong enough to handle.
But, considering I never really took the time of learning this feature, I’ve started to wonder if it would give me some advantages, especially considering I might starting to do ePub with the books designed for print that I make. I tried to find some kind of list of the advantages and disavantages of using or not using InDesign book feature, unsuccessfully .
So, what do you guys think? What are the advantages of making a book all splitted up with InDesign’s book feature?
    Thanks for your time!

One of the big advantages to using a book (besides any for doing epub, which is not currently part of my workflow), is that it breaks your project into more manageable chunks. Besides allowing several users to work simultaneously on differnt parts, it's faster and easier to scroll though a 100 page chapter than a 1000 page book, for example. A byproduct of this "chunking" is also that you have a bit more security agains file damage. Should something go wrong, you'll probably lose only one piece of the project, not two whole years of work.
That said, many users find it a lot more convenient to have everything in one file. If you use cross-references, you probably will want to go that route for sure. Cross-refs between docs, at least ID's native cross-refs, are less than spectacular in their reliability. I believe there are issues, too, with TOC bookmarks in Book files exported to epub. The ability to synchronize things like swatches and styles is great, but if you have only one file, there's no need to synchronize anything.
Basically, it comes down to personal preference and an analysis of the pros and cons for each particular project. There is no single answer that is correct for all situations.

  • Booking features in Muse

I am creating this post so people who have managed to add some booking features to their websites (using both Muse and html code) to share their knowledge and help the rest of us who would like to create websites for hotels or travel agencies. Do you know any ways/methods?
    Thank you all in advance

BC modules will work specifically to BC platform , the same modules will not work on other hosting platforms.
So if you are using BC modules you would need to publish the site BC.
If you want to export the site to your server then you would need to use third party event function or if your hosting platform provides the feature then add.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • How do I use the address book feature which allows you to connect your contacts to their social networking profiles? (in Lion)

When I look up the 250+ new features of Mac OSX Lion, under address book, there's a new feature that interests me.
"Address Book lets you quickly access the social network profiles for your contacts, including Facebook. Press and hold an email address to select the appropriate profile."
Somehow I can't get it to work. What do I do?

Make sure it's on the Template (see the entry for Twitter):
Then update the contact with the relevant info.
For Twitter you can then click and hold the Twitter tag to either View Profile or Send Tweet.

  • Need help with Book features

I have quite a bit of text in several Word documents, and am ready to assemble them into chapters in InDesign with a .indb (book) file.  Because of style sourcing, I don't know what to do first, and can't find anything in Help about it.
Do I create separate .indd files first, insert the text from Word and then link all the files to .indb?  OR
Do I create a series of empty .indd files and link them with .indb, then (I don't know where) synchronize styles in all of them >before< adding text?  OR
Do I create and stylize just one chapter, which then becomes the stylistic model for all the other chapters?
Do I even need to use .indb?  My book is going to be about 200 pages, and I am the only person working on it.
I am eager to get going on designing my book, just not sure where to begin to do it.  I >think< I understand the .indb concept.

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for answering my question.
I had a LOT of trouble figuring out last night how to post in the forums at
all (I'd also forgotten my IDs, which didn't help), so I was relieved just
to get into >any< InDesign forum!  The system wouldn't let me into the plain
old InDesign forum (who knows why?), but >would< let me into Feature
Requests.  And I decided that I was requesting information about a feature,
so no problem (sort of).  Anyway, the Adobe forums are not very intuitive
like some others I post on.  Many times the login wouldn't tell me I'd
gotten something wrong and would just bring up the home page again.  It took
way too long to figure out what was going on, and then I had to figure out
how to post once I got to the forum.  The last time I posted was a few years
ago, and it was just as tough then, so I wasn't relishing going through all
of that trouble again.  It was trouble.
    Thanks again for your help,
    ceilr

  • Address Book Feature Request of Maybe there is something already there

Address book is determined to be the central station liking all programs together. Map is a great examples which I use all the time launched directly from the address contact.
Is there a similar feature, plug-in, or anyones desire to click an address contact with the option to start a letter. I know you can drag to pages but it would be nice to start from address book and launch into pages, placing the desired address in a letter template. It would be so Mac like to make this as easy as possible.
    Any thoughts!

Have a look at Bento, from FileMaker.
Perhaps this might give you ideas ?
Otherwise, you'll just have to write an AppleScript (e.g. with the Developer's Tools)

  • Addreee Book - Feature Request

I sync my mobile phone using a group in Address Book I have created called Mobile.
At the moment I am able to check and see which Cards are in a group by looking at the list.
What I want to do is look at a card and see what list it is in.
I also maintain lists like - Friends - Clients - Friends from Philly - Suppliers.
If I could look at a card and see whether or not I had added it to a group I could avoid missing it out of a group by accident.
I'd be very interested in any workarounds y'all can think of.
Or- if you are Apple add this feature - PLEASE!!!!

  • HT3805 buy book feature not working "a connection could not be established at this time etc...." How do I fix this? I am running Mountain Lion with Aperture 3.3.2

I have the same problem as many of you on this forum,
Aperture will not allow me to buy a book. It says a connection could not be established at this time.
I have a 2011 17in MBP, running Mountain Lion, Apertaure 3.3.2 purcahsed from the App Store, a 100Mb network connection, based in Staffordshire UK. It acts the same over wifi or ethernet, e.g a connection could not be established at this time.  It makes no difference if I am signed into the App store or not.
I have spent 5 days preparing my Wedding album images for a 30 page book with lots of adjustments, therefore, I am desperate to fix this and as I paid £55 for the software I want it to work.
    Can anyone help?
    Regards
    Tim

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

  • How can I use the "create book" feature without having my album photo sequence altered

I have created an album with photos that are in a particular order for a reason.  I then process to create a book.  The template then rearranges all my photos.  Is there a way to keep them in the original order I set up?

All the 5000 photos that reappeared after repair today were from my canada mega event, but for some reason it did not do it for all the other mega events.  It is a start but not complete.
Try the rebuild to recover more lost photos.
If "rebuild" with iPhoto does not recover more lost photos, rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager as described by Old Toad in this thread, but rebuilding with iPhoto Library manager will not recover your projects like cards, bilks, slideshows.
Re: iPhoto glitch with retained masters https://discussions.apple.com/message/26354337#26354337
Mostly the way I organize all my photos is that I make a folder for each country I visit.  i.e. New Zealand Folder, Canada Folder, India Folder; and at the same time, any photos that I import I delete directly from new imports and just keep the ones i want and then i go up to events and move the latest imported event into a mega event for that country and so they all get joined in a sense.
As a workaround, merge the events right after importing, before you start deleting photos.  And empty the trash always before merging projects.
You might consider to use albums instead of events for your country lists.   I simply use the events as basic containers. One event for each day of shooting photos. I found, that smart albums and searches are quicker in iPhoto and Aperture, if the events are smaller, also browsing is easier, if the events are not so large.
You can merge albums and remove photos from albums without the problems mentioned above.

  • Export Address Book Features

I'm trying to simplify managing Address Book contacts for exporting to an e-mail marketing application (Campaign Monitor). The problem is that when a contact has multiple e-mail addresses they will be displayed as a separate column in a CSV file but Campaign Monitor will only import one address per contact so we have to manually create 2 contacts if there are 2 e-mail addresses.
Is there a way to export from Adddress Book so that each e-mail address is a separate contact? Probably not but if anyone has any advice on how to manage this better would be great. I have about 3,000 names in Address Book and am adding 1 - 3 new ones every day. Syncing with Campaign Monitor is time consuming.
    Thanks

No. You would have to create a second contact card for each email address with only one email address per card.
