Bookmarks and bookmark/hyperlink markers

I was working in story editor on a book chapter today and realized that my text was peppered with the nonprinting symbol for bookmarks or hyperlinks, even though I've added none to the document (see image).
The text was placed from a Word document.
So seeing all these, I opened the bookmark panel and found a couple dozen bookmarks with the name OLE_LINK, numbered. I deleted them all but it looks like a lot of the nonprinting symbols are still there.
So what's the deal with these? I'm concerned that later on down the line when I produce an ebook that these might be a problem.

My assumption was that these were being (wrongly) generated in ID. But after reading your comment I realized that someone had indexed the Word doc, and I didn't have bookmarks visible in Word. OK, problem solved...or at least explained.

  • Has anyone been able to get a book's internal bookmark hyperlinks working when exporting the book as PDF?

When a PDF-version of a book is viewed within Preview, bookmark hyperlinks do not work, but they do work on iPad.
In this support page, Apple states that hyperlinks should work.
Has anyone got a successful workaround that doesn't involve adding hyperlinks, one by one, via Preview?
    Cheers,
    Tim

    Hi Ken.
By "Preview", I refer to the Apple Preview app on my iMac; 'Preview' displays the PDF but the hyperlinks within the PDF will not link through to their respective pages throughout the book. Each hyperlink displays underlines, and the 'hyperlink' mouse icon displays when hovering over a hyperlink. It's just that the links won't work. There are hundreds of bookmarks, so adding these manually from within 'Preview' is not a viable option.
    Any thoughts?

  • Pages 5.0: Where is the Bookmarks/Hyperlinks panel?!

I swear I've looked everywhere. I hate the new "inspector" window. I need the bookmarks/hyperlinks/etc panel. I do documenting work for a couple of elderly couples, and I need to have a "table of contents" with hyperlinks to positions in the document. (Trust me, there's no way of teach all but one of them any other way.)
    Please help!
If it's possible to revert to Pages 09, that'd be lovely. I don't have iWork or anything, I don't think. I just bought Pages off of the App Store on my MacBook Pro.

Apple has removed bookmarks along with over 90+ features in Pages 5.
The hyperlinks aree largely broken and buggy.
If you had it before Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Bookmark hyperlinks not working within PDF

I have added hundreds of bookmarks and created hyperlinks to each one. The hyperlinks function from within iBooks Author but as soon as I export to PDF, the hyperlinks stop working.
From within the PDF the hyperlinks appear as underlined text, and the curser changes to indicate that a hyperlink is present. But clicking on a link does nothing. However, external hyperlinks (to websites: e.g. http://www.site.com) function OK.
I have opened the PDF within Preview, Adobe Reader and also within various iPads. Apple indicate that bookmarks/hyperlinks work when exporting to PDF, so what am I doing wrong?
I've searched the net for solutions and it appears that I'm not the only one with the same issue - but no solution is present.
    Any ideas?

If I export to pdf in Keynote, all my saved hyperlinks default to http://livepage.apple.com/ (when the pdf is subsequently opened in Adobe Reader).
Are you sure that you really entered a link when you created an Hyperlink?
The described one is the one which is used by default by every iWork's components.
We must enter the true one by ourselves.

You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.

  • Put in the clipboard, from an VB program, an image with a tooltip and a hyperlink to paste them into a Word or PowerPoint doc.

    I tried to put
in the clipboard an image with an associated tooltip
and a hyperlink to paste them into a Word or PowerPoint doc.
I tried to do it with the usual Clipboard's methods SetData and GetData. It's easy to paste an image, text, rich text, html, but it does not appear to be able to associate metadata or hyperlink to an image.
    Usally the tooltip

    associated with the object.
I think it can be done with the CliboardData class and its Data and Metadata properties, working with the different items of the List of Objects, but I don't know how to tackle it.
    Any suggestions?

Does word or powerpoint associate a tooltip and hyperlink to an image and then allow that image with those associations to be copied to another open word or powerpoint document? If not then your probably wasting your time.
This code can "listen" for items copied to the clipboard. Needs a RichTextBox on a Form.

  • How can I remove Firefox successfully and allow hyperlinks to work?

I need to clear space on my PC and wish to remove Firefox. I tried this but then could not open any hyperlinks from e-mails in Outlook. I tried various options suggested on the Outlook help page but to no avail. How can I remove Firefox successfully and allow hyperlinks to work?

Have you tried resetting your Default Browser back to IE, thru the Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs?

  • What are the best options for creating a PDF with bookmarks and a hyperlinked TOC?

What I'm interested in is whether or not there is an alternate process I could follow that would side step Word 2011's inability to export to PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs. How do you create PDF documents with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs in your documents?
    Some background:
In Word 2010 and 2013 for Windows (and I'm sure this applies to older versions as well), you can export documents to a PDF file format where the exported file will carry over the bookmarks and hyperlinked table of contents. Specifically, by making specific text headers, will appear in the final PDF file as bookmarks on the side (see image taken from Adobe's website).
Regarding the table of contents, using Word's built in Table of Contents feature successfully ports the ability to navigate to a specific section by clicking on its chapter in the table of contents to the finished PDF file.
I've read several forum discussions that say it's not possible to do this from Word 2011, so my current solution is to just finish all documents on a Windows machine (either with parallels or a separate computer). The alternate process flow of creating a word document, exporting it to PDF, then rehyperlinking everything in Acrobat is just too time consuming to consider.

    Hi, beejasaurus
I found a possible kluge from this discussion here
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1008480
Create the hyperlinks in Word, save the file
Open that file with Pages, export as PDF.
The links work from that PDF.
Note, I did not try this with TOC but it worked with hyperlinks embedded in the Word document

  • Can I return to previous page after clicking a bookmark hyperlink?

I am writing a book that I want readers to be able to click on a hyperlink to view more information about things, but then easily return to the previous page. For example:
    Ingredients:
    1 - apple
    2 - bananas
    4 cups sugar
apple, bananas, and sugar would be hyperlinks taking the user to spot in the book where I discuss each. I want them to be able to easily return to the page that sent them, but cannot find a way to do it.
    Thank you!

Well, perhaps I should give a little more detailed example to illustrate why I'm trying to do this. I see now that my initial example was probably overly simple.
The book is an emergency care manual for providers in the field.
It will have, for example, a section devoted to intubation that describes the technique, medications to use, proper verification, and so forth (this section would be a significant amount of information).  Then in a different section, say cardiac arrest, it will say "perform intubation per general guidelines" which will be just one little line of the entire cardiac arrest section.  I want to hyperlink "perform intubation.." to the intubation section but then have a way to quickly and easily return to the cardiac arrest section.
Does that make more sense? Maybe there's a better way than hyperlinks/bookmarks, but I haven't discovered it yet.
    Thanks.

  • Bookmark/hyperlink problem

I have a group of topics in a document in MS Word. I
bookmarked each item and put a hyperlink to each bookmark in an
index at the front of the document. Each link works perfectly with
ctrl-click in Word. However, when converted to PDF with
Professional, some of the bookmarks don't go to the right places.
They are sort of in the region but not close enough to spot the
item. Does anyone have an idea what is wrong and what to do about
    it? THANKS!

    Any pointers?

  • Scripting Bookmarks & Hyperlinks in iWorks Pages

Am I correct in assuming the AppleScript dictionary for iWorks Pages has no hooks for scripting either bookmarks or hyperlinks?
Tell me I'm senile, unobservant, need another latte and have missed something obvious... Please.
    Regards,
    Bryan

Yes, it looks that way. Similarly, there's no support for page numbers, page count, date/time, placeholder text, address book fields, or comments.

  • Lost all bookmarks & hyperlinks are now black! (Mac)

While using firefox my browser froze as i ran out of memory. I tried to close some windows while the browser was paused, however it was frozen so i had to force quit. When i re opened firefox all my bookmarks were gone, both in the toolbar and bookmark folder. I tried to restore however it gives the error message "Unable To Process The Backup File". I have tried following the support pages with no luck.
I have also tried to downgrade from 15.0.1 to 14.0.1 but this made no difference.
Also, i have noticed when i was using google to search for help all hyperlinks are now showing as black instead of blue! This is happening with multiple web pages.
Is there any way to manually restore the bookmark folder or is this impossible? I can't figure out how to fix this.
Current version of OSX i am running is 10.5.8
Current version of Firefox is 14.0.1
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer any help.

Would like to say i have solved this problem myself.
Decided to risk using the 'reset firefox' button (Help > Troubleshooting Information > Reset Firefox) which worked a treat. As soon as i pressed it, everything was restored! I am surprised i did not find this referred to in any help docs.
Hope this may help someone in the future.

  • Bookmarks / hyperlinks question

Using the IBA photobook template , I have a book set up with artwork covering the entire page. I removed the title and chapter number text but kept the paragraph text to use for creating bookmarks.
Did all the bookmarks and they work fine except for when I click the hyperlink it displays the correct page but the actual text ( I used ONE WORD ) flashes very quickly. So far I tried to make the bookmark with NO opacity then moved the artwork / background of the page OVER the bookmark and in both cases I still see the flashing bookmark name for a quick second.
Can someone let me know how to proceed here?

  • I don't like when I scroll over a link on a webpage and the hyperlink shows up on the bottom right in white box... it is extremely annoying. I want to know how to turn it off if possible, otherwise I'm going to have to use another browser. Thank you.

I don't recall this feature on any other version of firefox. For some reason, I can't stop focusing on the fact that every time I scroll over something on a webpage, an annoying white box pops up in the corner of the website displaying the hyperlink, or showing the fact that the link or whatever is loading... it's unnecessary and to me it appears as clutter, especially when I'm browsing a website that has a colored backdrop because then the annoying box pops out even more. I want to turn it off somehow or get rid of firefox.

To toggle the add-on bar on/off use Ctrl+/ or hide the add-ons bar through the View > Toolbars menus
Th add-ons bar replaces the status bar, so if you miss the status-bar working as before see item #10 in
You can make Firefox 4.0.1 and '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)]

  • How do YOU organize pages, create a site map, and use hyperlinks?

I had to get out of bed to bring this up with you all; I couldn't stop thinking about this next learning curve. It is: How shall I organize the topics I have in my website? One extreme is to have all of the topics showing in all of the nav bars at the top of all the pages. The opposite extreme is ............ I cannot truly visualize it.
I think that the big obstacle for me is that i don't want to hide any pages so well, so slickly, that they can be found only by the most focused and persistent website visitor. I can see how some pages could be lost to a lot of casual website viewers.
On the other hand, there are some pages that are natural groups. In my case, the U.B.R.O.L. group is that. It is made up of five people and me. I have one page for a photo slideshow which has one photo of each of us, but then I have a separate page for Nigel and his photos, a separate page for Vali and her long bio and photos, and a separate page for Helen, her short bio and her many photos.
Tonight I tried making hierarchies using hyperlinks, so that U.B.R.O.L. shows up in the Site Menu, but Nigel, Vali, Helen, and Peggy do not show up. To get to their photos, one would have to click onto the U.B.R.O.L. group page. Once at the U.B.R.O.L. page, one can then click onto Vali's, Nigel's, and Helen's page, and then from each of their pages there are 3 hyperlinks: one to return to U.B.R.O.L., and three more hyperlinks to click onto the others who have personal pages. (Peggy does not have a personal page because she is shy and never gave me more photos or a bio of herself. She prefers anonymity.)
But even though I put those hyperlinks on those pages, I am having an internal concept war, my friends, and a solution is not at hand.
I am thinking of how I am going to deal with the pages made for me, my husband, and my husband and I together.
I cannot imagine clearly how a Site Menu would look at the topmost level and much less of an idea how each page would look several levels down.
I welcome any direction you could send my way. I would like to know how you organized your pages, how you decided which pages would not be listed in the nav bar, and what you did to/with the pages that were not listed in the nav bar.
Would you please send me the URL of your website so that I can SEE what you are talking about? I am not good at imagining what people say; I have to see it rather than imagine it.
    Lorna in Southern California

Lorna, mostly from reading books, Iearned the following things.
•Don't make me think (actually the title of an excellent book on webdesign)
•Every information should be available in at most 3 clicks
•Tell them where they are, where they can go and where they have been.
IMHO, iWeb lends itself fairly well for these last 2 criteria. The Navbar is a very useful tool and I suggest you do not go too far away from it.
On my current issue of the toy theatre magazine (which is NOT a beautiful website) I wanted to go in 3 languages; English, German and Dutch. I knew i was courting disaster but one can be so ambitious. This in fact meant that I had to do 3 sites. Sites being defined as a group of pages structurally belonging to each other.
So I made an Index/Splash page with a nice picture, a title and 3 flags. These being links to the 3 versions. (I did not want to make them think on the Splashpage).
Clicking a flag brings the visitor to a Contents page on their version of the site. Just like the Contents page in a book. Here they can choose to go to any of the items and on each and every page of the site is a Contents button that returns them there.
Pages are numbered in the middle of the website, and to the leftside the number of (and link to) the previous page and to the right the same for the next page.
The current issue is number 25, ( http://www.vischmarktpapierentheater ), the previous 24 were done in Freeway and the design stems from there.
The translation to iWeb did work well but in the end the result was disappointing mostly because I wanted some slideshows, hated the "None .Mac accounts" version and went overboard with Keynote slideshows, really ugly.
The other problem stems from the triple language idea. This meant that I had to do either 3 versions of each slideshow, or make one version accessible for every language. This menat some convoluted linking which I will never do again.
In short If you want to go "deep", make various sites and link each starting page to you Index/Splash, keep the starting pages of each site on the Navbar Make a Contents sidebar or something like that on each of the starting pages, and than you can go anywhere within the required 3 clicks.
    Good Luck
    Harry
