Boot Camp For Lion -- USB ISO Method --"Booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB Drive...Failed to load BOOTMGR"

Hello, has anyone had experience with dealing with this speciifc problem?
In short, upon rebooting, I am getting a black screen with a line of text that says, "Booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB Drive...Failed to load BOOTMGR." Nothing happens after that.
I am using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4. I have an ISO of Windows 7 Prof. along with an 8GB usb drive. I changed the coding in my bootcamp program to allow for the normally first invisible option that allows creation of a USB Installation program using an ISO that is normally only for computers without an optical drive.
I have that box checked, the check for new software box, and the install windows box checked. I went through the process of creating the USB, downloading the software, and partitioning the drive. Then on restart, I get the failed to load bootmgr error.
Some people have suggested using two usb drives for this. I am trying that method but it does not seem to help thus far.
Can anyone offer any help?
Thanks.

from what i understand you are trying to install win 8 pro from a "backup disk" the one that you purchased from microsoft.
this will not work, it is not an installer disk.
you need to start the process again. erase the partition you made on your hdd. in disc utility click the minus button after selecting the bootcamp partition, then manually drag the divider down fully then apply.
next, erase your usb then format it.
download win 8 iso from here;
http://getintopc.com/softwares/operating-systems/download-windows-8-pro/
it is perfectly legal to use your purchased product key in this install.
in bootcamp select the iso image you just downloaded, select your preferred partition size, check all 3 options.
you have the support software on another usb but you wont need it so it can be discarded. the install will work far better with the iso and support on the same drive.

  • Recovery Disk Assistant created USB not a valid start-up disk

Booting from Recovery Disk Assistant created USB drive gives me a slashed circle with an eternally spinning grey wheel. Googling forums for the meaning of that symbol (and the fact that the machine never boots) leads me to believe that my recovery USB is somehow corrupted. This is repeatable -- erasing the USB key, repartitioning, re-downloading and re-installing using the Recovery Disk Assistant leads to the same error. I've verified that the USB drive is fully functional. I'm curious if there's anything obvious that I'm doing wrong here? Has anyone else experienced this?
    The particulars are as follows.
    - I followed the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848
    - I have a 16 GB Corsair flash key, on which I have two GUID partitions: one 2 GB and one 14 GB
         * intially, the 2 GB partition (the to-be recovery partition, even though the recovery files are ~650 MB) is formatted as a non-encrypted, Mac OS Extended (journaled) format
         * the 14 GB partition is ExFat
    - the Recovery Assistant finishes normally
    - as expected, the recovery partition is not visible in Disk Utility, but exists:
    $ diskutil list
    ...{snip}...
    /dev/disk2
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *16.0 GB    disk2
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk2s1
       2:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk2s2
3:       Microsoft Basic Data Feigenbaum              13.7 GB    disk2s3
    - to test the recovery disk, I reboot, holding `option' and choose to boot from the recovery partion on my USB drive
         * I'm using a non-retina, 2012 MBP with OS 10.8.5, if that matters
    - normal start-up splash: apple icon
    - boom: spinning wheel & slashed circle

Thanks for the suggestions! I didn't give this a go with a single partition, but I have resolved the problem.
Before finding the solution, I tried making a bootable clone of the MBP's recovery partition:
    - enable Disk Utility's debug option from the terminal: defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1
    - mounted the recovery partition in Disk Utility
    - restored from the recovery partition to the desired partition on my USB drive
    - made the partition bootable from the terminal: sudo bless --folder /Volume/{path}/System/Library//CoreServices
    - rebooted from the new partition
I got the same result: slashed circle and a spinning wheel
Creating the USB recovery partition on my Mac Pro worked. I verified that it works on both machines before I saw R C-R's suggestion. What's really weird is that the MBP *will* start from its own recovery partition. Maybe the MBP's recovery partition is corrupted in a way that allows it to boot but not be copied? Maybe I've made an error elsewhere? Who knows. In any case, my problem is solved now and hopefully, this thread helps some other poor soul.
Thanks again for the suggestions! Much appreciated.

  • "Booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB Drive...Failed to load BOOTMGR"

Hi Apple Ppl of the Wrld: I need help I been working on installing windows 8 on my Mac.
    Spec of equipment:
    Mac Book Pro Mid 2012
    Bootcamp Version: Version 5.0.4 (473)
Bootable USB Flash Drive: Type Scan disk 4 GB windows 8 pro iso image but without the driver and the 2nd Scan disk USB flash drive with 32 GB with the Bootcamp Drivers downloaded and saved to this drive.
Please Note: I also have the original back up installation disc for Microsoft 8 Prof 64 from Microsoft where I purchased it from.
1st Bootcamp is not recognizing the Original Microsoft 8 Pro backup disk from microsoft itself.
Solution: I created the New Image from the Original Microsoft installed disc in my desk top and changed the extension to .ISO then burned the ISO image into the newly purchased DVD+R. Then I ran Bootcamp Once again and it get the following error message "The installer disc could not be found -- Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized. Solution
2: Created a bootable usb drive with bootcamp assistant successfully with bootcamp. Yes I close, ejected or un-mounted any image that was open or had been previously used then i restarted the Mac. Next, I start the bootcamp assistant tool once again then i get the same insert your windows installer disc message.
3: Then I try to resolve the installer disc not found issue: this are the steps i took: a). Lauch disc utilities
        1. Selected the top most drive 750 GB Macintosh HDD
        2. On the right you’ll see 5 tab buttons: First Aid | Erase | Partition | RAID | Restore.
        3. Choose Partition. Then I clicked + to add another partition size of the partition was 222 GB
        4. Change the Name of the Partition to BOOTCAMP
        5. Change the Format to MS-DOS (FAT)
        6. Click Apply to save the changes and then reboot your Mac and we’ll begin Windows installation.
        7. During reboot, press and hold the alt/Option key and you’ll be presented with drives to boot from.
        8. Use the arrow keys and return button to select the Windows yellow USB key drive containing your Windows 8 installation files.
        9. This will begin the Windows install. --> then i get the following message: "Booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB Drive...Failed to load BOOTMGR".
4: Take the Mac to best buy and let them resolve the issue and charge me like a million dollars for it :'( since i have no other idea who to get this bootcamp working at all. This has been a terribly lengthy issue and it is not as simple as it is claimed to be since i started with the Original Windows Disc Purchased from Microsoft and I have the Optical disc drive which it should be simpler from what I understand.
Please can you help It would be of great help.

    Hi,
I've been trying for days to download Windows support software via Bootcamp assistant but it always fails with message 'Can't install windows software because it is not currently available from the software update server.'
Anyone else had problems or success with this?
    Thanks in advance.

Your issue is completely different. You are running Snow Leopard. There is no download for Windows Support software for Snow Leopard, hence the error you see. Snow Leopard Windows Support software is on the Snow Leopard installation disk.
You need the Snow Leopard installation disk or a replacement for it.

I'm using a device with ECM.
On 10.7 and up the AppleUSBCDCECM driver loads automatically and I have tethering.
But on 10.5 & 10.6 the driver fails to load and the tetheing doesn't work.

Hmmm, in 10.5.8 PPC Mac I have version 3.2.13 of /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBCDCECMData .kext
And the same version of /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBCDCECMCont rol.kext
Is that what you have in 10.5?
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.

  • How to create a Lion boot disk for Lion on a MBPRD?

I have a unique version of Lion on my MBPRD.  How do I create a Lion Boot Disk for this unique version?

Why is it a Unique version of Lion? The only versions of Lion are ones for older Macs, Before the Mid 2012 models came out, and a version that includes the newer drivers for the newest model Macs, Current shipping Mid 2012 models.
If you are talking about a version for the new Mid 2012 models then you will need to wait for Apple to update their Lion Download servers because right now they do not have the newest Lion version available on those servers.

  • How do I make a boot CD for Lion?

I just bought my kids MacBook Pros with Lion pre-installed.  It came with no resotre disk- what if they crash?  How do I make a bootable 'recovery disk' without having to buy another copy of Lion from the App store?
I found this link on Google-

but soemthing doesn't make sense about this method- wouldn't the diosk image you were trying to burn end being way bigger than a DVD?

Macs with pre-installed OS X Lion don't come with physical media. You have a recovery partition on your internal hard disk on your mac. If you want to reinstall OS X, hold down CMD + R when you hear the startup sound.
If you want to, you can buy an OS X Lion USB Thumb drive here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256Z/A  ($69.00)
You can also copy the recovery hd on an USB drive with this tool: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433

  • How to make boot disk for MacBook Pro with Mavericks pre-installed

    Hi -
I recently bought a new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display, which came pre-installed with Mavericks (10.9.0).  I want to make a bootable USB disk of the system software, and have successfly used DiskMaker X (formerly Lion DiskMaker) to make the USB boot disks for Lion and Mountain Lion.  In those cases, however, I was running earlier versions of the OSX, and downloaded the new OSX version -- Lion and Mountain Lion -- from the App Store in order to make to make the disk.  In this case, however, Mavericks was pre-installed, and I was unable to download it from the App Store (an alert said that it couldn't be installed on this computer... presumably because it was already installed).  I would apprecite any suggestions as to how I can create the boot disk without the ability to download Mavericks.  Thanks very much for any help anyone can provide.
    Shelly

Open App Store and locate the full installer download file (5.29 GBs) for 10.9.1. Download to your computer.
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
        2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
        3. Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

  • Booting to safe mode? been stuck on boot screen for 2  hours? Help please

Hello, I had a problem with my Mac which I have posted previously right here, https://discussions.apple.com/message/22649979#22649979
The first reply I recieved told me to boot to safe mode, so i followed the instructions and my computer has been stuck on the white screen with the rotating loading boot thing for 2+ hours.
I have never booted to safe mode
I heard that booting to safe mode can sometimes take a while but surely not 2+ hours??
to be clear this is the screen I am talking about
I have no back ups of my computer [I know thats not smart], it is far out of warranty, I am a student that has many important documents on here and all my music and family photos. Please help. I go back to school very soon and need this computer in working order! thank you to any one that helps

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. Do not try to repair the volume if you have no backups. The result could be total, irrevocable data loss.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • Alternative to Winclone for Lion?

I know that there has probably been a thousand posts about this, but is there a simple alternative to Winclone for Lion. By simple I mean, that it just creates the Backup as an Image with one click, and then just restores it with one-click.
    Thank you.
Software for OS X, that is.

About the only thing I can think of is Norton Ghost. You would need to set aside a drive formatted as NTFS, or at least FAT32 (if your disk image wouldn't exceed 2 GB).
Norton bought out the makers of Drive Image a couple of years back. So if you've ever seen that, that's what Norton Ghost is now. Norton essentially threw out their code.
Anyway, you install it while booted to Windows. You can then make your backup right from the desktop. Just don't do anything else while the image is being made so the disk contents aren't changing at the same time it's being backed up.
To restore, you can boot to the Ghost DVD. I've used it for quite a while. It works very well.

Booting up my K8N Neo2 Platinum i often get error messages which seem to indicate that something (BIOS?) is misreading my board and not loading utilities and thinking the utilities don't go with the board.  The error messages are

I've started getting an intermittent error editing my Windows 7 OSD task sequence.  Sometimes I can open the TS to edit, but when I try to apply changes I get the error.  Other times I get the error when trying to open the TS.  If I try again

I exported the task sequence and checked in "object.xml" for the "ApplyWindowsSettingsAction", to see if there was something odd in the xml, but I don't find anything that jumps out as being wrong.  Here's the section of XML for

Is there any other log I should check for a clue on this issue?  What could be causing this error?

Thanks for sharing that!  I tend to save contacting MS support until after I've exhausted other options.  I'm always afraid that I'll spend the $500 to open a case and then it turns out to be something simple that I would have found if I had just
kept working on it myself a little longer.
It looks like that link is for an update released in February as KB3023562.  I downloaded and installed it. I'll try opening/editing/saving the task sequence a few times today to see if the issue is resolved.
After I had already installed it, I thought to look up that update in configmgr.  The update is listed as superseded by 2 other updates.  The newest of those is KB3046049, which just installed last night with the other March patches, so it's possible
that I didn't need to install KB3023562 after all.

  • How can I use an external USB drive on my Macmini with Boot Camp and Lion/Windows 7?

I have a MacMini (Last model with a disk drive). The Mini has Lion and Windows 7 installed using Boot Camp. I want to attach a 350GB, USB, HP Personal Storage Device (Hard Drive) to the computer and be able to use it in both Lion and Windows 7 mode. The USB drive is formatted for Windows 7. I only want to use it for storage and back-up purposes for both operating systems. It would be nice if I could access the total disk from either system without having to reboot to change operating systems to view Windows 7 files and reboot again to view Lion files. Can anyone offer any guidance or any informational websites to help me? Thank you for any help!!

Yes, you’ll be able to do that.
