I wouldn't mind trying.  I'm not sure where I'd find older bios updates, tho.  HP doesn't seem to archive their bioses on the site.

I'm...not sure what you mean, but if you're asking me which bios version I have installed currently, it's: 3.10.  For Pavilion a410e.

ESC takes me to the "Boot Menu", which works, oddly...  The boot screen says to press F1 to get into the bios setup, but it just won't work.

  • I have MTS files imported from a Canon HD cam. They import into I movie and I see them in the Finder folders and they preview fine. I have a new project and some of the clips are freezing and some audio is now gone? Do i need a file converter and convert

I have MTS video files that import from a Canon Vixia HF S20 HD camera. I imported into I Movie. They converted into MOV files and I see them in the movies folder in finder. They view fine and run through the events folder in Finder. In I Movie, I created a new project and used a "Theme". The project worked fine at first but then some clips started to freeze and some lost audio. The effected clips are the same in the project library and in the event library, meaning they are froze in both places. As I said when i view through finder the MOV files preview and work fine.  Is this inherent to MTS files using in I movie. SHould i consider using a file converter to convert to MOV files prior to importing into I movie.
I found on Apple support site info that states the MTS files can only be imported through the camera. I am developing my back up procedures and now I am faced with backing up in the original MTS files but not being able to reload if necessary into I movie. Any suggestions?

I'd like to add that after I import these clips without thumbnails, iMovie does give me an error and say that they could not be imported. No explanation as to why, though. Again, they play fine on my camera.

  • NB200-110 won't boot nor allow BIOS setup

    Hi there
I am new on the forum and this is my first post.
I am helping my dad with the troubleshooting of its mini notebook.
    Model is NB 200 - 110.
For a few months, the notebook has been having hard time to boot.
But after several trials, it would normally finally boot and work normally.
Two weeks ago the notebook will no longer boot at all.
When powering on, you can hear some noise ( HD or Fan ?? ) then the "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen will show up, but it won't pass this point.
On the lower part of the screen you are prompted to press F2 to enter the BIOS setup or F12 to modify the booting devices, but it won't answer to none of the keys ( like if no keyboard present ).
I guess some of the hardware is failing, but is there a way to know what part exactly ?
Thank in advance for your help.
    Jean-Christophe

Hi Dr. Lamp and thank you for your answer. Though when I read it I already have solved the problem.
    Lets me explain how.
Since I made the post yesterday I have been "googling" and find some interesting topics in several forums ( including this one ).
Even if it looks strange, basically the steps to follow are :
1/ place the notebook in the freezer for about 10 minutes, then start it. It should now boot correctly
2/ update the Bios to the latest version ( in my case v2.20, can be dowloaded from Toshiba support page )
Well, I have done it and it works !!
I have been able to restart the computer normally afterward.
Now, I am really curious. What can be the relationship between a sotware issue ( Bios is software right ? ) and a physical ( hardware ) solution. For cooling the notebook in the freezer definitely has physical "impact" on the system, and this allows it to boot correctly, but then, updating the Bios is fixing something in the software side....
    Any logical explanation ?
Anyway, even if the mystery remains ( mystery is good sometime...), the good thing is that the notebook is now up and running.
I will update the post tomorrow to let you know if the computer is still running well.
    Best regards and thanks again,
    Jean-Christophe

  • My T61 always boots up into ThinkVanatage Rescue and Restore - Its madness!!

I installed a fresh XP pro on a machine, updated all the drivers and installed both SP2 and then SP3. I believe the last action was installing SP3 (XP), create a new restore backup and possibily installed the modem driver.
Now, when i start up the machine it boots directly into ThinkVantage. I cannot get into XP. My bootsetup in the BIOS is the factory defaults. I can see all the windows files but somehow i cannot get out off ThinkVantage.
I have been sitting with this problem for days now and would really appreciate some help. An no, the ThinkVantage button is not stuck.

Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.

  • Mac booting back into BIOS

Alright, yesterday I decided I was finally going to set up a Windows 7 partition. Everything went fine, the disk partitioned, the ISO was mounted on my USB no problems there. The problems started when my Mac restarted to boot into the Windows installer, hanging on load screens until it finally hit the installer... Which was in German and only had options for French and Spanish. Naturally I cancelled the install and my Mac restarted, only this time it booted into BIOS, saying that no bootable devices where found, after a slight panic I restarted my Mac again, holding down the option key and booting into OS X again, I went into Disk Utility and removed the partition, as well as formatting my USB, I thought I was completely in the clear after that. I booted my Mac up this morning and BIOS comes back up. How would I go about completely removing that? Should I just burn another ISO to my USB?

Try starting in safe mode which will check the Mac file structure. It may not fix your problem but it is easy and is the first thing I try when things aren't quite normal. Also run DiskWarrior if you have it.

  • F2 button not booting PC into recovery mode and Multimedia Controller error in device manager.

    Hello everyone,
I updated my lenovo ideacentre b540p from windows 7 home premium to windows 8.1 pro. I have two issues that came up after the upgrade.
    1. I can no longer access the Lenovo rescue system 3.0 by pressing the F2 button during startup to boot into recovery mode which was possible when I was using windows 7 and because of this I am unable to install the software and drivers that came with the PC.
    2. In device manager the multimedia controller driver is not installed. It shows a yellow sign in the other devices group. I have tried different version from the lenovo support site but none of them work. The PC was shipped without a CD containing the drivers but if I can access the rescue system, I believe I will find the driver I need for the multimedia controller.
    Solved!

interesting post, thanks. sadly i'm not sure this really helps. i didnt find what i expected.
the reagent.xml only has two references to offset, and they both refer to the partition that contains windows 7. i have changed this offset on the cloned disk to match the actual partition offset but it makes no difference.
i don't see any reference to the hidden lenovo partition or its offset in the windows recovery.
i also cant see any reference to it in the BCD on either the source or clonded disk.
all i see if pressing F2 on the source OEM when powering on loads a special lenovo recovery environment, and doing the same thing on the clonded disk just shows the windows 7 boot loader option for choosing to boot windows or do a memory test.
my question still remains, what is the magic thats happening when i press F2?

    Anyone know why?
    Help appreciated

Its seems the Case fans didnt like the set up to the power supply? Disconected the case fans, left the MB, CPU and graphic card running fans.
So far, the puter is now attempting to format my HD, albeit only recognising 130GB isof 250GB? Any solutions to this 1?

  • System wont go into bios setup

I called HP support to help me fix a display adapter problem.  I had set the screen resolution to a setting higher than could be displayed by my monitor.  I asked the guy how to boot the computer in Safe Mode so that I could change the resolution.  This guy had no idea how to put the computer in Safe Mode.  After an hour or so of him having me restart the computer, and push buttons, I finally got frustrated as this guy obviously had no clue what he was doing.  I told him tha I would figure it out myself.  Well, I finally got the resolution fixed, but durring all of the powering up and down the hard drive boot sector got corrupt.  I ran a repair on it, and got it fixed without loosing my data or programs.  All was fine until I completely shut it down.  Now, it wont Boot, Post or anything.  After complete power down, I removed the Cmos battery for a minute, replaced it, and tried again.  A couple of times a screen came up telling me my clock was wrong, press F1.  I pressed F1, but nothing happened I powered it down and followed the steps to reset the Password, and Cmos by moving the Jumpers.  Both jumpers are now back on the two posts closest to the hardrive connection. Now I have a new issue.  The computer spins up, all fans come on.  The Blue light on the Power button is Blue, not Yellow.  When it initally spins up, the Yellow light for the hardrive is amber, then goes off.  In less than a minute, the computer powers down for about 10 seconds, and then starts up.  Then in less than a minute it starts the cycle all over. Please help, Bill

Also, one stream dealt with changing a jumper on the BIOS to reset it to factory settings.
From my understanding if the HDD was password locked in the previous laptop that laptop is the only one that can unlock it. Did you put the HDD back into the original laptop to attempt to access the HDD to unlock it? It's hard to tell if you did that or not?

I'm assuming your C50 is using Windows 8 or 8.1; you didn't say!  Hold down the shift key while clicking on Shutdown. Then, hold down the F2 key while pressing the Power button. This will get you into BIOS/UEFI.

  • Upon boot stuck on 1st screen and beeping

Yesterday, I had a bit of a shock. I got the bluescreen of death, full on blue screen, lots of writing, a filedump then the laptop switched off. I tried starting it, nothing, unplugged it and tried again, nothing. I took out the battery changed the socket it was plugged into, put the battery back in plugged in the mains, and tried again. Nothing.
I called a friend, who suggested that I take out the RAM and put it back in, something that seems to work for some laptops. I unplugged and took out the battery, took out the two RAM chips and put them back in, closed everything and tried to re-start it, and it worked.
Start up screen!! Then.. at the Toshiba Leading Innovation >>> screen, it stopped, and started beeping and wouldn't start.
(I'll just throw in here that I did call Toshiba International Hotline, who after a few minutes of Q&A, name etc, and problem details, put me on hold to confer with a supervisor then told me that she would have to reboot her computer and could she call me back in a 2-3 minutes. Not like I had a choice, but she did have my phone number so, ok. I am still waiting for her to call me back, and despite having my email address, no email).
    Back to the problem.
Laptop stuck on the bootup Toshiba splash screen, beeping without stopping, I had the choice of pressing F2 for Setup or F12 for Multiboot. I went into the setup, didn't see anything amiss so exited, rebooting. Again beeping on the first splash sceen. I pressed ESC and the beeping stopped and the bootup continued, going on to the initial appearence of the MS flag which disappeared and was replaced with a warning that my C: drive needed to be checked (again, something that happens atleast 1-a-week and has been happening for the last 3 or so months), and without pressing any key I was informed that the check had been stopped.
So, back to the windows login screen, I logged in, and waited until Win 7 64bit had finished loading.
First thing I did was to backup everything I had to.
Then I noticed that my firewall (Zonealarm) was asking questions, as if I had just installed it. Strange since it was the first application I installed when I got the laptop. O??!!??
I was able to surf, print, etc, etc.
I then shutdown for the night. This morning I started the laptop, and it got as far as the splash screen (Toshiba Leading Innovation >>>) and then started beeping. "Wonderful"
I pressed ESC, and got the same "Disk checking" error message etc, etc.
I got the same questions form Zonealarm as last night, looks like the settings didn't "catch".
I need some help here. What is going on?? What do I need to do?
I can send the laptop in, but at the moment I am in the Caribbean, and will be here for sometime. However if push comes to shove, I still have warranty so I will send it in if necessary.
Or, is there something I can do here?
How about if someone from Toshiba International Support (949-859-4273 is the number I called) gets in touch with me. I did register my machine, that was confirmed by the woman who I talked to last night.
    Help.!! Please.

Sorry I thought I had mentioned it, but upon re-reading the post I realised I hadn't.
    I have a P500-ST6822.
I have installed the updates that Toshiba has sent out including the BIOS one. I always make sure that I update the proper versions of software because I am out in the middle of no-where and if something goes wrong, help is days or weeks away, not minutes or or hours.
I will check the "Product Support" section again. Thanks.
    esosm1987 wrote:
I am not a Toshiba support rep, just to get that out of the way, but what model are you using here?  Did not see that even listed.  May want to use the F2 method on boot to get into your BIOS and load the factory default settings there.  Also, you may want to check under 'Product Support' here and see if your model has an updated BIOS package for flashing.  Just a quick thought for you to try.

  • Satellite 1400-103: Cannot access the BIOS Setup

I'm having problems getting into the BIOS setup. At the 1st bootup screen I press ESC key then message appears Check system. Then press F1 key. Once key is pressed it doesn't take me to BIOS setup and laptop reboots. Any help will be much appreciated.
    James

No it doesn't. There is a problem with the OS and I was gonna do a repair using an XP disk. I have been trying to boot from cd rom by pressing C button and I've also tried pressing F12 key to change boot device. The teacher whose laptop it is has put a bios password on bootup but I'm assuming this shouldn't affect bootup or accessing the bios setup. I'm not sure if it's a supervisor password or administrator password.

  • MSO PRO-E 7522 BIOS confusion and persistent BSoD

    Hi there
A few months ago I switched from 775 to 1366.
    Components changed:
    CPU (from Q9550 to i7 950)
MOBO (from Asus P5QL PRO to MSI PRO-E
    RAM (From 8gb 800Mhz DDR2 to 12GB 1333Mhz DDR3 ADATA)
PSU (from Antec 550W to Cooler Master Ultimate 900W
+1 GFX card (Another ATI XfX 5870 Black Ed.)
I did not overclock the old system and I haven't overclocked my current system.
Now the thing is, I've been having bluescreens ever since I got that MSI PRO-E.
I've tried: switching RAM (since it said 1 was faulty), switched harddrives, reinstalled windows +/-6 times and looking for driver updates.
Now finaly I went looking at the BIOS.
Since I got a new PRO-E I remembered that I had no idea what version of the BIOS was running.
It seems that currently version 8.C0 is running.
Now I need to know if it matters that I've got the 8.xx BIOS version while running a crossfire setup.
    Because I've read this:
Version 7.xx (7.3 is supposed to be the latest) supports Crossfire
Version 8.xx (8.E is supposed to be the latest) supports SLI.
Now I understand that 7.3 won't support SLI, only crossfire.
But does version 8.xx support both SLI AND Crossfire? Or am I simple messing up my computer because I've got a wrong BIOS version?

    Yes.

    CPU-Z showed 530.5
CPU-Z always shows the real frequency.  Because of the DDR architecture (Double Data Rate) there are two transactions per clock cycle.  That means 530.5 MHz effectively translates to 530.5 x 2 = DDR3-1061 [~DDR3-1066].  The small difference (DDR3-1061 vs. DDR3-1066) can have two causes:  The Base Clock Speed is either not set to 133 MHz in BIOS Setup and/or Spread Spectrum in Enabled and causes small clock speed deviations.
    Quote
Then what would you have me do now?
Leave the memory frequency setting @DDR3-1066.  It is better for testing anyway.  You can worry about that later.  The only thing you may want to check is the Base Clock speed (make sure it is set to 133 MHz in BIOS) and the Spread Spectrum setting (disable it).

    I have a T61 with Windows 7 64 bits installed,
T61 did work fine for several months untill last week,
but now when booting immediately after the message to enter BIOS press F1 there is a message entering BIOS setup and then BIOS windows appears, by pressing F10 or ESC Windows 7 starts without reporting problems,
apparently there are no errors reported and I am unable to understand why BIOS setup window appears,
I did several attempts to restore BIOS to default values etc. (hoping to avoid the reported problem) without success,
when booting T61 enters everytime the BIOS Windows and I have to press Esc or F10 to continue normal boot,
How can I restore the original behaviour (i.e. booting without entering BIOS windows) ?
Has someone experienced a similar problem and found a solution ?
    Thank you for help.

Have you checked the date and time to make sure they're correct?
They will enter bios if the date isn't set or if the cmos battery is bad, but I've never seen a T61 behave like this otherwise.

I think I figured it out.  Of course as soon as I post something I figure it out.  Anyway, I went into disk utility and could see "untitled" but it was greyed out and not accessible.  I then clicked the "mount" button and now the disk is available in finder.  I'm not sure how it got unmounted but I am able to write to it and access it so I guess the problem is solved.
