Boxee-source compilation "checking for main in -ldl... no"

Hello Guys and Girls,
I'm trying to get Boxee to run on my laptop so that I can setup up on a small homebuild HTPC running a naked Arch Linux Installation in the future.
I have tried the versions that are in the AUR and got them to install after linking some header files, downgrading glew etc. but they are very old and
are teaming with bugs. The repo found in the Wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Boxee-source is outdated as well. The current Version is 1.5
and it is downloading 0.9.8.something from the repo.
There are 32 and 64 bit *.deb's for Ubuntu available on boxee.tv/download, but Ubuntu is way to bloated and I don't know how to work with it
when it comes to more advanced configuration (booting straight into X11 and starting boxee trough .xinitrc which worked fine with xbmc).
Made me realize what a great learning tool Arch Linux is.
So I downloaded the Sorce Code and extracted it and opened the README.ubuntu to find some building instructions.

1. Introduction
We currently recommend Ubuntu 11.10.
NOTE TO NEW LINUX USERS: All lines that are prefixed with the '#'
character are commands that need to be typed into a terminal window /
console (similar to the command prompt for Windows). Note that the '#'
character itself should NOT be typed as part of the command.
2. Installing the required Ubuntu packages
# sudo apt-get install make g++ gcc gawk pmount nasm automake cmake bison libsdl1.2-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libfribidi-dev liblzo2-dev libfreetype6-dev libsqlite3-dev libogg-dev libasound2-dev python-sqlite libglew1.5-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libmad0-dev libogg-dev libvorbis-dev libsmbclient-dev libmysqlclient-dev libpcre3-dev libdbus-1-dev libjasper-dev libfontconfig1-dev libbz2-dev libboost-dev libfaac-dev libenca-dev libpng12-dev libjpeg62-dev libcdio-dev libsamplerate0-dev libmms-dev libmpeg3-dev libfaad-dev libflac-dev doxygen php5 swig libssl-dev libgdbm-dev libvdpau-dev libxmu-dev libxtst-dev libxinerama-dev libhal-dev libhal-storage-dev gperf libtool
3. How to compile
# ./bootstrap
# ./configure --enable-optimizations --disable-debug
# make -j4
# make -C tools/TexturePacker -f Makefile.host
# rm skin/boxee/media/Textures.xbt
# make -C skin/boxee/media
4. Create installer
# cd debian
# sudo ./make_debian.sh
./bootstrap wored fine.
With ./configure I ran into problems a few times but managed to fix them on my own ( installed libmms, lz02, mysql-clients etc. when check failed)
but now I'm stuck at: "checking for main in -ldl... no" and I have no clue how to fix it. What am I missing?
Once I get this to compile and run I want to contribute my first package to the AUR. Would be a good opportunity to get familiar with ABS, PKGBUILDs and all
that.

Looks like a linking issue?
http://phaseit.net/claird/comp.unix.programmer/linking-unix.html wrote:
Linux's dl library
There are at least two distinct problem symptoms with dynamic-linking that Linux users frequently report: that
    the configure for Tcl and/or derivatives think that dynamic linking is not possible; and
    a makefile which attempts dynamic linking fails for not resolving "... -ldl ..." adequately.
To the best of my knowledge, all instances of the former problem have been traced back to an inconsistency between configure and other sources, typically the result of incomplete application of a patch, mis-installation of a compiler and its ancillary libraries, or some sort of cross-OS contamination. As far as I know, correcting any compiler problems and doing a "make distclean" to sanitize the Tcl source directory has always been enough to cure the situation.
Some installations (Slackware 2.1? 3.1? others? Red Hat before 4.0?) are reputed to have a missing symbolic link between /lib/libdl.so.1 and /lib/libdl.so. Any application which employs dynamic linking, and which therefore links with "... -ldl ..." under Linux, apparently will fail until one completes the installation by commanding
           ln -s /lib/libdl.so.1 /lib/libdl.so
That's the whole story that I know. However, those unfamiliar with Unix deserve a warning: the previous paragraph used "link" in three distinct senses. If these matters are new to you, you might feel more comfortable substituting
           cp /lib/libdl.so.1 /lib/libdl.so
for the "ln ..." command above. When I'm able to make time, I'll return to explain these matters more fully.
Why isn't there a /lib/libdl.a? That's an involved topic, one that I aim to document later in spring '97.
ldconfig is sometimes an issue for Linux. I'll document it once I understand it better.

    I'm having the same problem, albeit 18 months later. I am working with a tutorial from apress, which seems very high on Glassfish as a AppServer environment for learning EJB 3.0. I have the same error when I try to run the client application in the Sun Platform 9.0 Application Server's AppClient Module container , "... Error checking for persistence unit annotations in the main class..." and I think it has something to do with the fact that the AppClient is expecting "something" in the MANIFEST.MF file that actually isn't there... • Compile class file, check for code structure quality

    now i am trying to develop a system for my college final year project..the main function is to help the lecturer to mark the student java assignment
    any way to compile the java file..just to check for the error? if got error then 0 mark..no error got mark..and then check for the code structure and so...base on that ..to decide the student mark..like if good structure 20 mark..bad? 5 mark and so.
    is it possible to do so?
    Junit?
    any sample?

    Checking for errors is easy, just write a script to check if javac completed successfully. You can use similar approaches (possibly needing to parse the output) for jlint/PMD/whatever to check code structure. If there's any custom checks you want to do, though, I suggest you grab a parser (possibly witgh semantic analysis; I've found the Eclipse one is rather easily extracted and is good for this stuff) and write manual checks. It might be easier to write PMD rules, but you won't have the flexibility.

  • Compile Forms on a Unix Machine (check for errors in any of the files)

    Hello there,
    Our organization is wrapping up the development phase and beginning our testing phase. I am responsible for the Configuration Management of our forms, menus, libraries, and reports.
    We develop our code in a Windows environment (including compilation check), then we FTP the source files to a unix environment, then we compile the forms on a unix environment. We have this process down pretty well (for a couple of files at a time).
    Now we would like to automate our "build" procedure. This process involves the following tasks.
    1.) Extract all the source files from our vault software (PVCS)
    2.) FTP all the source files to the UNIX environment
    3.) Compile all the source files on the UNIX environment
    4.) Test the Software on the UNIX application server
    We have all of the above working (if no compilation errors occur). I am not sure how to check if any of the files errored during compilation. How can I check to see if any errors occurred during the UNIX source code compilation? I know how to do this manually (look at the output and see if the module compiled), but we are compiling approximately 200 files during our release build process. Maybe some sort of send the compilation results to an output file then search for any files that contain "not generated" (I assume if an error is generated, the text will be displayed to the user).
    Is there an easy way to check if any of the forms, menus, libraries, or reports errored during the "automatic" compilation process?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    I use this script to generate .fmx files from a zipped .fmb file. This approach allows for much faster FTP because our developers are not co-located with our servers.
    In addition, the tail command echoes the final line of the .err as either...
    Created form file <filename.fmx>
    for success or
    Compilation errors have occurred.
    for failure.
    # SCRIPT: zipgen
    # REV: 1.0.d - Used for developement
    # DATE: 070515
    # PLATFORM: Not Platform Dependent
    # PURPOSE: This script takes a single filename variable (w/o extension)
    # and it unzips the file then deletes any existing compiled
    # form of that name and finally attempts to generate a new fmx
    # of the variable name.
    # Assign Variables
    v_log=$1.err
    v_zip=$1.zip
    v_fmx=$1.fmx
    v_fmb=$1.fmb
    # Unzip File: Overwriting any existing file(s)
    unzip -q -o $1.zip
    # Cleanup ZIP files
    rm $1.zip
    # Delete existing FMX
    rm $1.fmx
    # Generate FMB

  • I cannot access any of my old purchases. Movies, mainly. It has nothing to do with authorized accounts, I've checked for available downloads a thousands times over. They simply do not exist any longer.

    Well, this has been going on for a long time and I've had my absolute fill of it tonight.
    I have purchased a large collection of movies from iTunes that for mainly the reason that I have a new computer, my old films no longer exist as downloaded iTunes videos. That being said, I know I should be able to download purchased films as long as they're still on the iTunes store. I cannot download any of them. Tonight I decided to buy a collection that should have allowed me to download all three films (which I had previously owned, but got sick of trying to find a solution to why I cannot redownload them). So tonight, I purchase this collection of three films, downloads the frst one. Theres absolutely no sign of the second or third film and when I select Check for available purchases it says all available purchases have been downloaded.
    If this was true, 25+ movies would be available to download, least to say the two missing from tonights purchase (which I have purchased in the past as well).
    My account is authorized, everything is alright with my account and I have tried multiple suggestions and am completely lost. Apple support is giving me the run-around.
    What do I do?

    Nevermind. I finally found a third party answer and will post it for anyone else with my problem.

    Joe,
    I presume you are trying to build Oracle BDB and not bsd as you have mentioned.
    Yes, the error message you are getting is for not having the CC compiler in your system or the path isn't set. Check in the /usr/vac/bin directory if you have one in your system. You might find both xlc and cc compiler there. Set this directory to your path so that 'configure' can see it.

  • Error checking for persistence unit annotations in the main class

    Hi
    When I tried running the examples from the SUN JMS tutorials, I landed in a problem. I did the following changes...
    1. I created a new project in eclipse
    2. created the java class 'Producer.java' in a package..(the one in java tutorial is not in a package)
    3. copied the build.xml and made the the respective changes.
    I successfully created the jar file, but when I tried to run the the application
    appclient -client JMSProducer.jar eg.jms.P2PProducer.Producer queue 3it throws the following exception:

    I'm having the same problem, albeit 18 months later. I am working with a tutorial from apress, which seems very high on Glassfish as a AppServer environment for learning EJB 3.0. I have the same error when I try to run the client application in the Sun Platform 9.0 Application Server's AppClient Module container , "... Error checking for persistence unit annotations in the main class..." and I think it has something to do with the fact that the AppClient is expecting "something" in the MANIFEST.MF file that actually isn't there... ( sigh ). " so close, and yet so far away.... "

  • How to check for a logic bomb in compiled java code ?

    I have couple of security requirements.
    1. How do I check for logic bomb in the compiled java code ?
    2. Is there any way to monitor memory utilized by class when running inside a constructor ?

    1. Let me see if you can define 'logic bomb', then maybe a answer can be supplied. If you simply mean malicious code, then in general you cannot. You can attempt to do the kinds of things that antivirus software does, like check for the existence of known malicious code and code patterns, but that won't work any better on Java than it does on anything else.
    2. Google java profiling. Also, for something relatively simple, read about jconsole.

  • Compile-time checking for Serializable

    Hi,
    For an object to be Serialized it must implement the Serializable interface. If any of the objects it stores as instance variables do not implement this interface then run-time exceptions will be thrown. Why can't there be a compile-time check for this? It seems fairly simple to me... Also, why don't the writeObject methods only accept objects that are Serializable? Just changing the method signature to public void writeObject(Serializable obj) throws... should be enough if compile-time checking were available.
    Am I being really stupid or are Sun?
    Dan.

    It would be impossible to reasonably check at compile time, because what if you had a variable of type Object? At runtime it might work because anything could be in there, but if you check at compile time, it would have to fail, because the compiler can't gurantee that the value will be serializable. Also, a non-serializable field wouldn't cause a problem at runtime if it's null, which is another condition the compiler cannot check.

  • Check for source updates

    Hi,
    I mantain a couple of PKGBUILDs and I was wandering if there is a (simple) way to automatically check for upstream updates.
    P.S.: Happy new year. ^^

    I've been using websec for years - it emails you the page if it changed, and *highlights* the changes.
    Here are the 2 programs - websec and webdiff, tweaked to remove the useless progress messages, so websec can be conveniently run by cron.

  • Unable to compile class for JSP

    Please can anyone help me to solve this.
    Actually,this is the condition.
    In my db,there is a table called UserPassword, which has 4
    fields(empNo,UserName,password,level). Now I want to do these things:
    When the user submits the data to create a new account via HTML form, it submits the data to the file called CreateAcc.jsp. In this file it perform some logic,here are they.
    1)To check the empNo,if it is already exist in the DB,
         if empNo =exist then display error.(record already exist)
         if empNo =notexist then do task 2).
    2)check the UserName,if it is already exist in the db,
         if UserName=exist then display error.(because it's a primary key)
         if UserName=notexist then do task 3).
    3)Create a new user account and save it to the db.
    To do these tasks,I never create a new objects for the tasks 1) and 2).
    only for task 3)create an object.
    Is it the right way?
    Here is the file CreateAcc.jsp
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <%@ page import="core.UserAccManager" %>
    <%@ page import="data.UserPassword" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="UserAccManager" class="core.UserAccManager" scope="session"/>
    <jsp:setProperty name="UserAccManager" property="*"/>
    <jsp:useBean id="UserPassword" class="data.UserPassword" scope="session"/>
    <jsp:setProperty name="UserPassword" property="*"/>
    <%
    String nextPage ="MainForm.jsp";
    if(UserPassword.verifyEmpno()){
         if(UserPassword.verifyUsername()){
              if(UserPassword.createAcc()) nextPage ="MsgAcc.jsp";
          }else{
               nextPage="UserNameExist.jsp";
          else{
              nextPage="UserAccError.jsp";
    %>
    <jsp:forward page="<%=nextPage%>"/>The directory structure:
    UserPassword.java- F:/Project/core/data/UserPassword.java
    UserAccManager.java - F:/Project/core/UserAccManager.java
    Now both are compiling.I put the class files into the TOMCAT,as follows.
    UserAccManager.class - webapps/mySystemName/WEB-INF/classes/core/
    UserPassword.class - webapps/mySystemName/WEB-INF/classes/core/data/

    I try it that way, but it don't compile.

    So,I comment them only in the UserPassword.java file,and compile it again.
    Then it compile well.I goto the directory to get the .class files.
    But there is only UserPassword.class inside the data folder. There is not
    UserAccManager.class in the core folder.
    Then I try this way,I put my 2 java files in to a new folder,
    F:\SystemName\com
    When I try it that way, but it don't compile.

  • How can I check for directory creation?

    Hi,
    I want to check whether I can create a directory at a particular location.
    Let's say at c:\windows, can create a directory called c:\windows\mydir. But I won't be knowing the parent location (i.e., c:\windows here) at compile time.
    And I would also like to check for creating a directory like c:\windows\mydir1\mydir2 (mydir1 may not even exist).
    What I was doing was, I created the file object for my new directory (i.e., mydir here) and used the canWrite() method on the parent directory. But this method worked only when the parent directory existed. But how can check for a directory path like c:\windows\mydir1\mydir2 where I have to create both mydir1 for mydir2.
    Is there any other methods that I can use to perform this kind of a check.
    Thank you

    I finally figured out a workaround, but i don't know whether this is a good way of checking. :)
    import java.io.File;
    public class TryMKDIRs {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              File file = new File("c:\\mydir1\\mydir2\\mydir3");
              boolean canICreateDir = false;
              if(false == (canICreateDir = file.canWrite())) {
                   System.out.println(file.getAbsoluteFile() + " cannot be created.");
                   File fileparent = file.getParentFile();
                   while(fileparent != null && (canICreateDir = fileparent.canWrite()) == false) {
                        System.out.println(fileparent.getAbsoluteFile() + " cannot be created.");
                        fileparent = fileparent.getParentFile();
              if(canICreateDir) {
                   file.mkdirs();
                   System.out.println("Directory can be created. . .");
    }
