BPEL PM administration/maintenance?

Hi,
I am looking for information how to maintain a BPEL installation. Things like how/when to purge logs and dehydration storage. Are there other things that need to be done on a regular basic?
Regards Pete

I found something about backup, check Re: Best practices for backup of the BPEL PM?
How do you know what to purge? Do you have a link or note? Marc has a blog entry about how to delete instance data (http://orasoa.blogspot.com/2007/03/delete-bpel-instances.html). But is that all? What about logs etc?
Oracle should really have BPEL administration guide. I know there is one with that name but it contains other information, not the day to day maintenance stuff.

  • CHARM: Administrative Maintenance in Prod.System

    Hey,
I want to do some changes in my productive system, w/o involving the dev.system.
I know, that I have to create a Admin.Maintenance-Correction in CHARM.
Everything seems to be working. By clicking "log in in system" a new gui opened in the same productive client i am allready logged in.
But when i choose to create transport order in the task list, the transport order were created in the dev.system.
can anybody explan this to me
    kind regard

    Hi,
The Admin message is for performing non transportable changes in a system, the idea is basically document the administration changes. You use the Maintenance Task List just to log on to the system in which you want to perform the changes.

  • Group administration/maintenance ACI. Is it possible?

    Here is the scenario. I have say ou=XYZ, ou=ABC, ou=People below dc=company, dc=com. I have admins uid=XYZ_admin, uid=ABC_admin in ou=People.
I want to set an ACI which allows these admins to create/maintain/delete groups (objectclass: groupofuniquenames) within their corresponding OU's.
1.Create groups: create group name, description, owner, etc.
2.Maintain groups: change description, add/remove members, add/modify owners.
    3.Delete groups
Can ACI be written to achieve this. These admins cannot do anything else within their OUs i.e. cannot add people, ou, etc. or change any people attribute values.
To put it another way, what would be the ACI for these admins to have all privileges for a specific objectclass (groupofuniquenames) and all the attributes associated with it (cn, owner, uniquemember, description, etc). If all priviliges are granted to the 'cn' attribute (group name), it must be within the 'groupofuniquenames' scope and not outside of it (person).

From reading this posting, I was able to find a way to allow all, expect deleting OU's. This is the ACI:
    (targetattr="*")(targetfilter="objectclass=organizationalunit")(version 3.0; acl "Deny ou deletion"; deny (delete) groupdn = "ldap:///cn=SACSS Administrators,c=ca";)
Thank-you for your help and suggestions!

  • Reg:Enterprise Manager 10g

    hi all,
    when i login to Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g. using http://server name:port no/em.
I got Home, Performance, Administration, Maintenance      these four options.
In the Administration i am getting tip like this      TIP      Use the Enterprise Manager 10g Java Console to manage Streams, Advanced Replication, Advanced Queues, XML Database, Spatial and Workspace.. I want to do Oracle replication. is there any thing i need to install. where i can fount the setup. Please help.
    Thanks in advs

Enterprise Manager 10g Java Console can be installed from the Oracle Client CD or Download. It is the (almost) equivalent of the 9i OEM in Stand-alone if you have used it before.

  • Sign on issues

I am trying to help my Mom sign on to her computer.  When she turns on her computer, the first page displays her User Name correctly and asks for her Password.  She has been using this same password to get on her computer several times a day for
years now.  All of a sudden after she enters her password it says " The User Profile Service failed the logon.  User profile cannot be loaded".  I have read the forum questions and answers about "Open up your registry and go to
    HKEYLOCAL" but my question is:
How do you get to any page, etc.  as there is nothing on the screen that allows you entry into the compter.  The bottoms down at the right hand side turn the computer off.  There is no right side/left side
of the mouse to use as it does nothing.  I cannot get past this first page and it has been an exhausting process so far and I can't fix this for her.  Please help and tell me the exact steps I need to take to simply have her put in her password and
use her computer.  I will be forever in your debt!!  Thanks

There is a good habit that users use acount with least privileges. Administrator account is used for system administrator maintenance. If you have Administrator credentials, it is possible to get in and work with profiles in registry.

  • Best way to manage 8i and 9i databases?

    Hi,
I'm looking for the best way to manage 8i, 9i, 10g and 11g databases with EM (of course, upgrading the 8i databases is not an option). I successfully installed OMS 12c, but the 12.1 agent will not connect to the 8i databases. What are the alternatives?
-The 10g agent can manage 8i, but will it be able to connect to 12.1 OMS?
-If this doesn't work, I guess I would need a 12.1 OMS for 9i, 10g and 11g databases, and a 10g OMS for the 8i databases. Is this a viable solution? Can 10g and 12.1 OMS coexist within the same environment?
I'm looking for the best scenario that actually works, I understand that anything that connects to 8i will not be supported.
    Thanks.

    Hi.
I'm afraid you got it right.
Let's distinguish between MONITORING- which is done by the agent and MANAGEMENT (administration, maintenance, performance management etc) - which is done directly from the OMS.
    According to my experience:
OEM 10G is the last version that can fully MANAGE 8i databases.
OEM 11G can MONITOR 8i databases (via a 10G agent) but cannot MANAGE them (or in other words ,the 11G OMS cannot connect to 8i databases).
OEM 12C cannot MONITOR nor MANAGE 8i databases.
If you use OEM to fully manage your 8i databases (and plan to continue doing so) I suggest you keep a dedicated OEM 10G installation for those databases.
There's no problem using 2 different OMS installations and many organizations choose to do so for various reasons.
The downsides are that you'll need to duplicate your OEM configurations (monitoring templates, rules etc) and of course- you won't be able to manage all databases in a single console...
If you use OEM to only monitor the 8i databases, you can create a set of user defined metrics that will run against a 9i database and will connect to the 8i databases via DB Link.
This solution is far from ideal but it might eliminate the need for maintaining another OMS installation if all you need is monitoring the 8i databases.
    Erez.

  • Monitoring Schema Username

I am running OEM GC 10.5 with AMP 3.1. I have discovered and can monitor my various databases, PROD, DEV, TEST, etc... I am having a bit of a problem understanding the process of a discovery in order to monitor e-business through AMP 3.1.
I will begin by describing the actual problem: So I discover e-biz and always hesitate at the prompt for "Monitoring Schema Username" and "Monitoring Schema Password". I have read the AMP 3.1 users guide, but have found little mention of what the monitor schema username should be. What I have tried and used successfully during discover process is my apps user and password, my system user and password have also worked. Once e-biz is available as a target under the "Oracle Applications" tab, I can interact with tabs Home, Performance, Administration, Maintenance, and Topology. I cannot interact with Diagnostics and User Monitoring tabs. I get "Unexpected Error occured while loading the data for the screen. Refer the log for more details", and this is part of what I am getting in emoms.trc if I click User Monitoring lets say -
    "2010-08-11 10:59:16,980 [EMUI_10_59_16_/console/oam/oamHome$ctxType=oamFolder$selTab=5$target=PROD-Oracle_20E-Business_20Suite$type=oracle*_ebs] WARN pref.SubtabPref getFolders.710 - Unknown folder id: VirtualServers retrieved from repository
    2010-08-11 10:59:17,503 [EMUI_10_59_16_/console/oam/oamHome$ctxType=oamFolder$selTab=5$target=PROD-Oracle_20E-Business_20Suite$type=oracle*_ebs] ERROR rest.ServiceClient retryAuthentication.503 - Authentication/Authorization failure message =
    2010-08-11 10:59:17,505 [EMUI_10_59_16_/console/oam/oamHome$ctxType=oamFolder$selTab=5$target=PROD-Oracle_20E-Business_20Suite$type=oracle*_ebs] ERROR handlers.DashboardHandler loadData.386 - Invocation Exception thrown
oracle.apps.fnd.oam.em.rest.exception.AuthorizationException: Unable to authenticate/authorize. The credential provided is wrong or the user doesn't have sufficient privilege.".
One thing I should mention is that I know the following to be true. I have set preferred credentials for e-biz.
    Applsys Schema Username (apps)
Applsys Schema Password (my password for apps)
Apps Schema Username (apps, is this same user as above?)
Apps Schema Password (my password for apps)
    System Schema Username (system)
    System Schema Password (my password)
    Applications Login Username (sysadmin)
    Applications Login Password (sysadmin password)
    Host Username (root)
    Host Password (root password)
Run as (not sure what I am supposed to put here)
Profile (not sure what goes here)
    So my questions are:
What should the "Monitoring Schema Username" be?
Does the correct user have to be set up in e-biz? special permission? db permissions?

Typically for monitoring purposes, you can use dbsnmp. The only exception I've seen is when you monitor standby instances, since instance is only in mounted mode, you have to use 'sys'. For applications, I suspect you would use an "admin" type of id at the app level.

  • Separating Layers physically

    Hi,
Under what circumstances should we provide physical separation of different layers such as presentation, business logic?
Does it make sense to keep the presentation layer in a web server (tomcat) and the business logic layer in an application server (glassfish, jboss)?
Or should everything reside in one application server?
Kindly help me with your suggestions.

    Hi,
Under what circumstances should we provide physical
separation of different layers such as presentation,
business logic? As expressed before, there are no hard and fast rules, however I see three aspects involved in the decision: scalability, administration, maintenance
scalability: (note that I didn't say "performance") is probably the least impacting this decision:
Depending on the application, on its functional usage as well as its technical flows, you may want to fine-tune the repartition of resources devoted to the web tier independently from the resources devoted to the business tier. If the application undergoes a lot of servlet requests, but most of them do not invoke business services, you may want to have more web container nodes (say Nw) than you have EJB containers (say, Nb).
However, it's not necessarily a waste of resources to have them all in (NW=Nb) application servers: the business part of each of them will be less loaded than the web part, that's all.
Does it make sense to keep the presentation layer in
a web server (tomcat) and the business logic layer in
    an application server (glassfish, jboss)?>
Or should everything reside in one application server?"A", "One"?
OK, so if the load is not that big, and you are confident enough in your application, and deem that you won't need clustering nor failover today, then the physical separation makes only sense if you plan to enable to have them tomorrow (say, cluster the web tier with 2-3 nodes while keeping only one business-tier node, or the other way round).
Note that I didn't mention that the database tier is most likely physically separated in all cases, if not for failover, be it only because the hardware requirements (disk, memory,...) are quite different from the web or AS hardware.
    Administration:
Putting both web and business parts in the same AS enables you to monitor and manage all parts from a single management console, often an AS-specific one, cluster-aware, or an external tool using AS-specific agents.
By separating the layers you complexify the administration of the whole system; you may still have a single management console, but then it's necessarily an external tool, and you have to configure it to collect and correlate info from all nodes.
    Maintenance:
Your application will have bugs, failures, outages. Even if very bug-free, it will undergo upgrades.
Separating the layers enables you to sometimes upgrade them independently (say, upgrade the web part for cosmetic enhancements with no impact on business logic).
This possibility should not be overestimated because as soon as the upgrade involves a coupling (e.g. modification of an API between the web and business tier), you will on the contrary be much safer to upgrade both in one atomic upgrade.
One last thing, if you deploy your apps as separate war and jars, instead of as one big ear, the AS will likely enable you to undeploy/upgrade/redeploy each part separately. In one EAR, the undeploy/redeploy is normally atomic, unless there are AS-specific enhancements.
In my case, the business tier has to serve both web
    clients and application clients.
Both these clients may number in thousands.
    I'm thinking of the following:
Web Clients => Web Server => Application Server =>
    Database
Application Clients ========> Application Server =>
    Database
But heavy load will be from the Application Clients. The fact that you have two different categories of clients that target different entry points of the application does not imply that you have to physically separate the entry points.

  • Upgrade ISE 1.1.X

    Hi
    I have ISE 3315-K9 version 1.1.1.268
I need to upgrade to version 1.2
I read this post where he explain how to move from 1.1.3 patch 3 to 1.2
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/security/aaa/blog/2013/07/19/upgrading-to-identity-services-engine-ise-12
But I would like to know how to upgrade 1.1.1.268 to 1.1.3 patch 3
Thanks in advance for your help

You can download ise-appbundle-1.1.3.124.i386.tar.gz to upgrade to 1.1.3 and the apply the latest patch for 1.1.3 (patch 8).
Or you can apply the latest patch to your version 1.1.1 (patch 7) and then use this file ise-upgradebundle-1.1.x-to-1.2.0.899.i386.tar.gz to upgrade to 1.2 directly.
First, you have to have an FTP server (easiest to configure) and then configure a repository on the ISE.  the easiest way is therough the WebGUI by going to Administration > Maintenance and clicking on Repository on the left side menu.
Click Add. Fill out the configuration for the FTP Server and click Submit.
Then go to Administration > Backup & Restore and be sure to perform at least a Configuration Backup.
Log in to the CLI in enable mode.
    Enter this command:
application upgrade ise-upgradebundle-1.1.x-to-1.2.0.899.i386.tar.gz <> (this is the name you set up for the repository created above)
    Your ISE WILL reboot.
Once this is complete, log back in to the WebGUI and verify the install.  You can then go to Administration > Maintenance and choose Patch Management from the left menu to upload and install Patch 3 to the v1.2 install.

  • User Logon Time (msec) Alert

    Hi,
I'm getting User Logon Time (msec) Alerts, and the connections are slow!
Where can I go to see more about what is causing the slow logons?
    Any log files?
    I'm running 10.1 on Windows 2003
    Thanks!
    Gene

Sorry to pull an old thread, but I am having a similar problem.
Running 10.2.0.3 (single instance installed with dbconsole service) on windows 2003 x64.
I see this Alert after loggin in to OEM: User logon time is 2875 msecs.
Logon times for applications via sqlplus/sqlnet/odbc etc are fine, it's the OEM logon time that is very slow. All other logons are immediate.
It always takes 2-3 seconds at least (sometimes longer) to login to OEM, and it also most of the time takes as long to load the "home", "performance" tabs and even the administration & maintenance tabs sometimes.
It is very inconsistent, sometimes the "home" tab will load right away, but most of the time it will take 3-4 seconds to load.
I get the same problem when logging on to OEM from the localhost where the server is installed, and the same issue using Internet Explorer or Firefox.
    Thanks for any help.

    Problem Description
When running a RAM build you get the following error as seen in the RAM build
    log file:
14:52:50 2> Updating warehouse tables with build information...
    Process Terminated In Error:
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01456: may not perform insert/delete/update operation inside a READ ONLY transaction
(SIGENG02) ([Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01456: may not perform insert/delete/update operation inside a READ ONLY transaction
) Please contact the administrator of your Oracle Express Server application.
    Solution Description
Here are the following suggestions to try out:
    1. You may want to use oci instead of odbc for your RAM build, provided you
are running an Oracle database. This is setup through the RAA (relational access
    administrator) maintenance procedure.
Also make sure your tnsnames.ora file is setup correctly in either net80/admin
or network/admin directory, to point to the correct instance of Oracle.
    2. Commit or rollback the current transaction, then retry running your
RAM build. Seems like one or more of your lookup or fact tables have a
read-only lock on them. This occurs if you modify or add some records to your
lookup or fact tables but forget to issue a commit or rollback. You need to do
    this through SQL+.
    3. You may need to check what permissions has been given to the relational user.
The error could be a permissions issue.
You must give 'connect' permission or roll to the RAM/relational user. You may
also try giving 'dba' and 'resource' priviliges/roll to this user as a test. Inorder to
keep it simple, make sure all your lookup, fact and wh_ tables are created on
a single new tablespace. Create a new user with the above privileges as the
owner of the tablespace, as well as the owner of the lookup, fact and wh_
tables, inorder to see if this is a permissions issue.
In this particular case, the problem was resolved by using oci instead of odbc,
    as explained in suggestion# 1.

  • Purge Metadata Repository

    Hi,
Require some pointers on how to delete the metadata repository contents.
    Your help is much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Srini.

Please clarify if you mean erase all data (instances, processes, non-default domains, etc.). I've heard of people doing that (e.g. for a test instance) by making a database backup before deployments, then restoring it when you want to reset everything.
There are two less detsructive options, more handy for day-to-day testing and use (10.1.3.4 specifics follow):
Both are in the BPEL console, Administration tab, Actions sub-tab:
    - Clear WSDL Cache - handy if you're redeploying a process and you get odd behavior
    - Purge All Instances (for a specific domain) - cleans out the instances in the current domain

  • Dehydration DB growing 500 Mb/day

We are running a 10.1.2.0.0 environment, in which we have about 180.000 process instances, of which approximately 25-30.000 are still active. Because these processes are active, new instances appear every day and others are closed.
To prevent an unending growth, we do have scripts running to clear out historic and sensor data. However, two tables in the database are not affected by these scripts: CUBE_INSTANCE and CUBE_SCOPE. CUBE_INSTANCE has all process instances, where CUBE_SCOPE seems to have the visual representation thereof. CUBE_SCOPE contains a large blob. For every 2 MB CUBE_INSTANCE, there is 200 MB CUBE_SCOPE.
Question: can i delete closed instances from the CUBE_SCOPE without causing the PM to fail. I do understand that i will no longer be able to see the visual representation of the process in the Console.

    Hi,
you can delete closed instances and they of course disappear from bpel console.
Than you can reorganize tables ( see BPEL Cookbook Administration Production Environment section )
The problem is with LOB segments. I think you can't free space from LOB segment without affecting availability of BPEL PM.
You can move lob to another tablespace for freeing space
    alter table cube_scope move lob ( scope_bin ) store as ( tablespace <for example users>)
than you can move lob back
alter table cube_scope move lob ( scope_bin) store as ( tablespace orabpel)
and finally you need to rebuild index on cube_scope
    alter index cs_pk rebuild
