BR*Tools Command Line on AIX

Hi Everyone,
I would like to ask for your assistance on how can I solve our backup issue on our SAP Prod Server (running on an AIX Server). We usually do an offline database backup every weekend scheduled on tcode DB13. We backed up the database to LTO3 tape drive. The backed up database reached 750GB. We were able to backed up it on LTO3 tape cartridge (which has a native capacity of 400GB and compress capacity of 800GB) using the hardware compression of tape drive. My questions are, if this database backup exceeds the tape compress capacity of 800GB, what will happen to our offline database backup scheduled on DB13? Do we have other ways to perform the offline database backup other than using DB13?

Hi,
tape_size plays an important role to avoid such physical Tape-end situation and for the optimal distribution of backup files to the Tape.
I would do the following things, before going to perform such Backups.
1. First Determine the estimated value of tape_size parameter and set it accordingly:
 -> switch off the harware compression (via a switch on the unit or with the appropriate driver [tape_address]). To do so, read the hardware documentation
 -> begin a complete backup on the tape station with compress = no
 -> after the physical tape-end has been reached and the backup terminated, use the quantity output in the last BR063I message as an approximate value for the tape_size parameter.
All above steps are mentioned in this SAP Note 8707 - Explanation about init<SID>.sap parameter tape_size. Please refer it.
2. Estimate the Compression Rate which is closer to the Compression Rate provided by ur connected Tape Device Drive, by running dummy compression Run:
Use compress=only or -k only with BRBACKUP command
Please refer SAP Note 19909 - Setting compress_cmd for compress = only, to set ur compress command with option "-b 12", which is required to get much closer Compression Rate to the actual Hardware Compression rate.
e.g. compress_cmd = "compress -b 12 -c $ > $"
3. By performing the above estimation, you will come to know about the estimated Data Size which will fit in your Tape with/without H/W compression. Then perform Backup using "-k hardware" option.

How to log BIAR export/import from command line
We're in fact trying to migrate from R2 into R3. The import wizard provided by BO doesn't work well with favorites and inboxes migration due to the large volume of data we need to migrate, hence looking for alternatives.
Any advice around this line would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. This at least saved my effort to explore further.
Would you offer any advice for migrating large volume of personal folders from R2 into R3?
We're integrating with AD, so everytime listing users for selection taking ages and often times out.
Even if we managed to export the biar file for a group of users, exporting them into R3 fails quite often as well.
The whole process is simply very unpredictable and unreliable.

FreeFlow Accxes Client Tools Command Line Parameters

We have a wide format scanner that is connect to our network via a HFT controller. I have installed the FreeFlow Accxes Client Tool on one of our engineering servers as a service. My issue is how to start automatic image retreval. Is there a method to pass parameters via the command line so that when the FreeFlow Accxes Client Tool starts, automatic image retreval starts.Thanks,Stuart

Assessing Command 'Analyze Source Files' via Command Line when running TestSTand Deployment Utility

Our Software Configuration Manager is running the TestStand Command Line Deployment Build Tool (Ref: https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-38947).
        When he builds the application, the code will not be at the same location it was in development.
If you are Manually running the TestStand Deployment Utility, This is not a problem because everything is relative in the workspace.   Simply go to the Distributed Files Tab (of TestSTand Deployment Utility) and hit the, "Analyze Source Files" button. This finds the required files and apparently creates an updated hard path to be used during the build (probably in the *.tsd).
PROBLEM: We auto-run the Command Line Deployment Build Tool (Command Line), and we do not have access to the, 'Analyze Source Files' command.
            As a result, our build consist of many warnings and the output is missing many files (the location of the files have not been updated).
If we could access the 'Analyze Source Files' Command via command line, that would fix the issue.
FYI: We use an automatic builder called Quick Build as our builder.

Unfortunately it looks like Analyze Source Files does not have a command equivalent for the command line based on this article and attached PDF:

Seized Role but not able to Clear metadata via Command line

I have setup a lab in my home for practice and tried to demote a DC in my environment through command line , after transferring a Roles which was on the DC to other,
i tried below mention command to clean up metadata and remove a Selected DC.
1 Ntdsutil ,2 ntdsutil:roles,3 Fsmo maintenance: Connection,4 server connection: connect to server dc3.,5: server connection: quit,6: fsmo maintenance: Seize RID Master(Clicked YES),7: fsmo maintenance: Quit, 8 Ntdsutil: Quit
After seizing Roles i tried to clean up metadata, below are the step which i have taken to perform it
1ntdsutil, 2ntdsutil:metadata cleanup,3 metadata cleanup : connection,4 server connections: connect to server dc3,5 server connection : quit, 6 metadata cleanup: select operation target. , 7 select operation target :select domain 0,8 select operation
target: select sites 0, select operation target : select server 3 , 9 select operation target : Quit, 10 metadata cleanup: remove selected server
After reaching to the last step no 10. i received a error stating that to clean up the data please put server online.
Could anyone tell me what step did i missed as all the servers where online and roles was seize successfully, also would like to tell you all that once i go to Active directory sites and services and check the servers the default sites connection are lost
on DC1,DC2,DC3.
Please let me know the correct method to perform metadata cleanup.
Also let me know what other prerequisite should i take to perform apart from transferring roles and Global Catalog should be there on other DC

Hi Atul,
Metadata cleanup is a required procedure after a forced removal of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Metadata cleanup removes data from AD DS that identifies a domain controller to the replication system.
We can clean up metadata by using GUI tools, command line, or a script.
Regarding how to clean up server metadata, the following article can be referred to as reference.

GUI Applications unable to use command line tools

Hi All-
I've searched, but I can't find a thread about this one, so...
On OS 10.4.5:
Whenever I use a GUI app that wants to use a command line tool (e.g. curl, df, java), the app fails giving an error message to the effect of "unable to find curl" or the like. It is as if the GUI cannot find my unix $PATH.
Examples:
-- Eclipse refuses to launch, because it appears to use "java xxxxxxx" to launch.
-- Automator fails to run certain Safari actions because they use curl to navigate web pages.
-- Carbon Copy Cloner fails to launch, because it can't find a tool (df, IIRC) to read drive/volume info
Possibly relevant details:
-- I can use the tool in question from the command line, so they are present, and in my $PATH, but the GUI can't find them.
-- I recently moved from an old G4 to a relatively new G5, and had issues migrating files, so I eventually just copied my entire home directory from the old machine to the new, replacing the freshly created one on the new machine. I feel like that missed something that tells the GUI where your $PATH is, or some other link between GUI and command line.
-- I created a new user, and that user does not experience the same troubles. This adds to my suspicion that it is account/PATH related.
Any help anyone can give it greatly appreciated.

Did you by any chance create an evironment.plist file? It is located in ~/.MacOSX/ If you don't know about it or don't know to look (.MacOSX is normally invisible), try this:
In Finder.app, in the "Go" menu select "Go to Folder..." (shift-command-G), type ~/MacOSX in the text field and hit OK, the finder should then open a window or complain.
If it opens a window and you find in it a file named environment.plist move that file to the desktop and try your applications. Do they work as advertized? Try again after logging in/out if things don't work. Do they work now?
Whatever hapens, tell us more...

Running a command in a command line tool in fastest way

Before anything I want to clarify some terms :
apk
file (android application package file) : equivalent to executable (exe) files on windows
aapt.exe
: A command line tool which comes with android sdk in order to fetch information of an apk file (It obviously has other usages)
note : This question is not about an android feature. It's all about C# and functionality of .Net framework

apk file has a name just same as any other file, but it has a internal name (which will be shown when you install apk file on android os as name of application)
with
aapt.exe I can get internal name of an apk using following command :

GetAllFiles is
a function that I've created to fetch all apk file full path. It gets two argument. First argument is path and second one is extension of file you want its full path to be fetched.
This is not final code.
As I've commented it out first Debug.WriteLine doesn't
work and second one is not a good idea. how should I get output from proc?

As another approach :
Because apk files are basically zip files I can extract them get what I want from them.
There is an xml file named Androidmanifest.xml in every apk file.
Androidmanifest.xml is like an ID card for an apk file and apk internal name can be found in it but here are some problems with this approach :
1. Androidmanifest.xml is not a plain text file. It's coded and it requires a lot of complexity to decode it
2. application name (or apk internal name) is an attribute in this file and it's value is not a string value. It's a reference to a file where strings are stored and worst thing is it's not an easy to find out reference. It's just a number

And you don't get any output from it? Maybe you're passing the arguments incorrectly?
No. I don't get any result and I have checked arguments and it's correct.
But you are already running a separate process for every apk file. You start a single cmd.exe and then send it commands that will cause aapt to be run for every file. Unless aapt accepts multiple apk filenames on the command line there's no way
around using separate processes.
I didn't know that. anyway speed in this way is much more rather than creating a function. creating a Process object in it and calling function for each apk file.
I read somewhere that it's possible to run multiple commands in cmd by & operator but as you said I think every command runs aapt. I have tested this approach too and it's very very slow
fastest approach I have found is what I have wrote here and speed is about 0.6 per apk file which is still slow when there is thousands of apk files.
I tried an application that does same thing (fetching apk information) and in it's installation directory I found aapt.exe which means it uses this tool to get information but speed is significantly faster rather than my application.
So what's your suggestion about this?

Error while exporting webi reports using BIAR command line tool.

We are trying to export webi objects to a biar file using the biar command line tool, biarengine.jar in XI 3.0. We are using the query select * from ci_infoobjects where si_kind='webi'.
We are getting an error "unable to create plugin object".
Export of all other objects is going through fine.
Any ideas?

Command Line Tools installs the latest version of clang (and others) in /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/... but not in /usr/bin/

I've upgraded Xcode to the latest 5.1 Installed Command Line Tools via xcode-select --install Homebrew tells me "A newer Command Line Tools release is available"

Checking my clang executable:

So it appears Command Line Tools didn't install clang (and perhaps other executables) into /usr/bin? I checked my other laptop (w/ Mavericks), and /usr/bin/clang is version 5.1.
So I'm guessing this is the problem? I've tried to reinstall Command Line Tools as sudo, but now it won't let me install again (says software isn't currently available).
Can anyone help me with this? I've spent hours on it now, but can't find a solution.

Issue while creating BPEL artifacts using BPEL command line tool

I am trying to create BPEL artificats for SQL server stored procedure for SQO Server 2005 using BPEL Command line tool.
My demo.properties is

in the sales order, use the same item number for
populating conditions.

How to create and use library JAR files with command-line tools?

Development Tools -> General Questions:
I am trying to figure out how to put utility classes into JAR files and then compile and run applications against those JAR files using the command-line javac, jar, and java tools. I am using jdk1.7.0_17 on Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.7.
I have posted a simple example with one utility class, one console application class, and a Makefile:

I finally figured it out:
1. All name spaces must match -- identifiers, packages, file system, JAR contents, etc..
2. Tools must be invoked from specific working directories with specific option arguments, all according to the project name space.
My key discovery was that if the code says
import com.example.util.Hello;then the JAR must contain
com/example/util/Hello.classand I must invoke the compiler and interpreter with an -classpath argument that is the full path to the JAR file

Here is a console session that demonstrates building and running the code two ways:
1. Compiling the utility class into bytecode, compiling the application class against the utility bytecode, and running the application bytecode against the utility bytecode.
2. Putting the (previously compiled) utility bytecode into a JAR and running the application bytecode against the JAR. (Note that recompiling the application against the JAR was unnecessary.)
(If you don't know Make, understand that the working directory is reset to the initial working directory prior to each and every command issued by Make):

Hi,all,I've got some tools that are usually,or take JDK for example,if we are not using an IDE,we need to open the command prompt,and then use the javac command to compile the source files and the "java "command to run the program,and both of them accept some command line params.The problem is that how could i integrate the tools in my own program,like JBuilder or some other IDE,you configure the params and compile and run in the IDE which don't need to open a command line prompt.Hope i have got my question clear:)

actually,i am using eclipse to run my ant tasks programmatically,but I got trouble with the AntRunner class.it seems that i should config a proper classloader for it,but i just don't know how.please lend a hand:)thanks

Help for Acrobat Reader 7.0.9 for AIX run in command line

I have a batch job, will call acrobat reader to convert pdf format to ps, then print it to printer.
cat test.pdf | /usr/bin/acroread -toPostScript | pdpr -dPRNTEST
the problem is, my AIX desnot support X Window,
How to setup DISPLAY value, so, I can call acroread in command line
$ /usr/bin/acroread
(acroread:17382): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
I saw some reply before, this version 7, need setup DISPLAY, but I login by SSL, without X Windown support, How can I setup this DISPLAY value?

I sort my problem, this may be not the best solution, I review last few replies, try to understand what go wrong, it may be 7.0.9 weakness - mysolution: install xwing on my PC login AIX 5L server by putty #export DISPLAY=<myipaddressxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx>:0.0 then, #acroread -toPostScript a.pdf a.ps Works:-)

"add_mp_to_mpa" is not recognized by OEM 12C Command line tool

As per Oracle® Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface 12c Release 1 (12.1) document ( http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/em.121/e17786/cli.htm ), after the EM CLI Client is installed basic operational verbs like 'add_mp_to_mpa " can be used to create managenment plug-in archive. But when i am using this command with OEM 12C EM CLI command line tool it throws following error
+Error: The command name "add_mp_to_mpa" is not a recognized command.+
+Run the "help" command for a list of recognized commands.+
+You may also need to run the "sync" command to synchronize with the current OMS+.
I also used sync command to sync with my OMS server. The sync command ran successfully with output "Synchronized successfully" .
When i use help command("emcli help") to see the list of command it supports, it doesn't list this ('add_mp_to_mpa ') verb.
Please tell me how can i use this particular verb to create my own management plug-in archive(.jar file) in 12 C.

"add_mp_to_mpa" verb is no longer an emcli verb in EM 12c. The plug-in framework has changed EM 12c. If necessary, please see the following doc for information on packaging and deploying a plug-in.

How are Windows Server Backup and Command Line Tools used in vCSHB installation?

How are Windows Server Backup and Command Line Tools used during the installation of vCSHB? Is it required in all types of deployments (PtoV, VtoV, PtoP)? Is it used to create the files that are put in the file share for the second node to use during vCSHB installation or is it only used during a vCSHB clone operation of a Physical to Physical deployment? Are these tools not used in some deployments?

You need Windows Server Backup installed on source and destination, and during the installation of vCSHB the installer will invoke the wbadmin (Windows Server Backup Utility) and will backup configuration and application data (application data is optimal but can decrease the sync time after installation of secondary node). On the secondary node you will need only run the vCSHB installer and everything will be restored.
