Branching in assessments

Hi All out there
I have built assessments using branching, but in the past
have always kept scores of 0 along the branches until it all comes
together again. This is slightly irritating, because the "clever"
users who use shortcuts (one branch) should get the same amount of
points as those users using the long path. The reason that I would
like to see this scoring is so that I can get a clearer picture of
the users capabilities.
In a nutshell, I would like the assessment scoring to
continue, irrespective of what branch the user chooses, with the
final score being realistic re % achieved or x out of y.

Hi kathyn and Pascal
No diagram unfortunately, I map in my head space. Best
description I can give is the following simple example:
How do you close a file without closing the package?
1. Click on the lower cross of the 2 in the top right corner
of the screen.
2. Select File, then close from the drop down menu.
In the assessment, selection of the cross will jump a slide,
but selection of the "File" click box will move to the next slide
showing the drop down menu. Thus a branch.
The problem is that if the user selects option 1 and I weight
it at 2 points, then the relevant weighting for each branch is 2,
thus equal, but my total points at the end will be 2 short even if
the user did everything correctly - as per what Pascal is saying.
Currently, in a situation like this, I am allocating 0 scores to
all interactions in the branches and continuing the scoring when
the branches rejoin.
