Brand New Canvio 3.0 wants To Be Formatted Before Use

OS is Windows 7 Pro 64: With my new HDD fresh out of the box, I got a "new device detected" message followed by an "installing driver" message, and then confirmation that the driver for my Canvio had been properly installed. But when I click on the drive's icon, I'm told that I need to format the HDD before use. Then, when I check out the format dialog, it tells me that the drive's capacity is 364GB. I haven't done anything other than to connect it per the quick start guide and boot up the computer, although I've done this a few times while trying different cables and USP ports (both 2.0 & 3.0), but always the same result. I figured that because it's supposed to be plug 'n' play, the drive would pretty much take care of itself other than me clicking on Setup.exe, but I can't even access that file on the drive. What gives? Also, from the sticker on the back of the enclosure I get a p/n of HDWC130XK3J1 and a s/n of 535RWG5YSU17 - but when I enter either of those into the troubleshooting page I get a "please enter correct model or serial number" message. Very curious.

I have a similar problem - just bought the 3TB drive.  When I turn on the computer, it recognizes the canvio drive, but says it must be formatted.  (I have a Windows 7 desktop).  If I unplug the usb plug from the hard drive and then plug it back in, it recognizes the drive and all the files I have copied.  Seems like I shouldn't have to do that every day.  I also noticed the drive goes to sleep a lot and takes a while to wake up - I saw another thread about that here - you would think they would fix that.  Seems weird that their support site still doesn't recognize this product.   I may need to take this back if there is no easy fix for these problems.

I recently purchased a brand new Airport Time Capsule 2TB. I already am using the previous generation time capsule to back up all my computers data. May I ask how can I complement the usage with my new time capsule?

By default your new Time Capsule will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
Most likely your iMacs will be connected to the wireless network created by the Virgin Media router. However, both should see the Apple Network under the AirPort icon's drop-down menu as another wireless network that they can connect to. Is this not the case?

  • Being brand new to FCX I want to purchase Motion5 so as I am able to add a motion template to the start of a video. Can someone please explain in simple terms how I go about this. Looked at tutorials

Being brand new to FCPX and Motion 5 I want to use a motions template I have bought for a wedding DVD I have shot, so as to place the introductory template at the start of my film. I have looked at tutorials and cant seem to see anything that tells me simply how to achieve this. Do I edit my film as normal in FCPX and then transfer to Motion to add the motion template or visa versa ?? I need a simple answer as I am far from an expert. Can anyone help please.

what do you mean by 'motion template'?
as you notice on launch of M5, it offers you different project types.
when you select 'title', the minute you save it, it's avail on next launch of FCPX in the title-browser.
    same with effects.
if you like to use M5 for producing a short segment (eg, I created my 'openers' with it, some animation of our soccer-team's logo, the first 4sec in this video), you simply export the final project as a Quicktime-file and add it to some Event in FCPX for future use ...

  • I am using Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit on a brand new PC, and cannot connect to the iTunes store using iTunes version 10.  HELP!!

Ok, so after purchasing a new computer, with windows 7 pro, 64 bit, I tried downloading the newest iTunes, which at the time was 10.2.1 (i believe).  After installation, everything seemed to work, except that iTunes was unable to securely connect to the internet, use home sharing, or validate my computer.
As troubleshooting, I first ran msconfig, and then turned OFF all programs that boot at start up EXCEPT itunes and quicktime.  After a restart, i opened itunes again, and got the same result.  That led me to believe that iTunes was NOT being blocked by another program on my machine.  I am currently running itunes 10.7 successfully on a Windows 7 32 machine at work.  Anyhow, for grins, I tried to install version 9 on the new computer, and it installed perfectly, and immediately connected to the itunes store, leading me to believe that there is nothing wrong with my software configuration (not sure if this is a safe assumption or not).  I then tried to let iTunes update itself using the automated update function.  It tried to update itself to the most current version, then 10.6.  Again, iTunes was unable to connect to the iTunes store.  I HAVE tried disabling the anti-virus software (AVG), but that made no difference.
I have since gone back and reinstalled iTunes 9.  Here's the catch though.  When I reinstalled using version 9, I had to redo all my library files.  I'm about 1/2 way through my CD's, and now have a substantial library file going.  The last time I let iTunes update itself to 10.6, once I realized that it was not going to connect to the store, I uninstalled iTunes, and reinstalled ver. 9.  However, when I did this, it told me it could no longer open the library file, because it was a newer .itl or .xml (i believe it was one of those two extensions) library file.  At that point, I basically started everything over again, using version 9, and have been importing CD's like a madman at night.
    Here are my questions:
    1) Is there a way to make a copy of the files that store my library info, so that if my upgrade to ver 10 IS NOT SUCCESSFUL, I can restore ver 9, but still have all of the album art work, playlists (when I import music, I create a playlist with the artists' name, and store things that way), etc. in tact?
    2) What else can I try (firewall settings, internet options, etc.) to try and get version to to successfully install?  I would really like to get all the benfits of the newer versions.
    3) When I tried to get apple tech support before, they wanted me to pay a ridiculous 69$ fee for phone support.  I just bought an iphone 5....this should entitle me to a fresh 90 days of phone support, right?  The reason I ask here is that I could hardly understand the "tech" that answered the phone when I called for tech support last time, and to be honest, it really ****** me off that they wanted to try and milk me for another 69 bucks....I've purchased every iPhone since the 3Gs came out (pre-ordered at that), and have nearly gone broke purchasing music from their iTunes store....heck, maybe they're doing me me a favor not letting me into the store, huh?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated,
    -Brian

    Many thanks.

  • HT3275 I continue to get the following error message: Unable to complete back up.an error occurred while creating backup folder. It's a brand new drive. When I attempt to repair it using disk utility I get:unable to repair disk cannot unmounted

I have been trying to use time machine on a new lacie 2tb usb 2 drive for back up. I continue to get: "unable to complete backup. An error occured while creating backup folder". When I use disk utility to repair I get another error message: unable to repair disk unmountable.
Help me Obie One Canobie you are my last hope

I have confused myself with the facts!  Started out keeping track of every step and every variable but have sort of lost it as we progress here.  First I quit all applications then swapped connections between mouse port and backup disk port to influence possible bad connections question.  Changed power outlet receptacle for the backup disk. Disabled the put-the-HD-to-sleep option.  Then powered down the computerator.
Next started up computerator.  Turned Time Machine ON  and experienced multiple successful backups!  Then I started up a few applications, Mail and Text Edit (but not Safari so far).  Had a few more successes.  After each backup, I used Disk Utility to verify the backup disk is still OK.  This because the error about unable to unmount the backup disk seems to go hand in hand with Disk Utility finding the backup disk to be bad.
Put computer to sleep for the night.  Upon starting up in the morning, and before doing anything else, I did a backup disk verification... BAD!   Did a restart and verified the backup disk... OK.
Did a few    Sleep-bad, Restart -OK    repetitions.
It seems consistent:  Sleeping the computer apparently messes up the backup disk but doing a Restart "repairs" it.
    =============================
Now then, I don't understand everything I know here.  Methinks that maybe keeping the HD from sleeping during lulls in activity has allowed successful backups through the day but manually putting everything to sleep for the night causes a return to the problem of spinning-back-up-too-slowly (which was explained earlier).  Is there any truth in this?
I may abandon this Seagate thing for something more compatible.  What's out there that we know works reliably for us?

  • Brand new iMac running slow with only 3% of HD used!

I just purchased a new iMAC 21.5" with 2.9 i5 and 8GB memory and literally have yet to add any programs except AI, ID and PS and its running very poorly. This is my first MAC and i'm very disappointed. I purchased this computer for school where I am getting my BS in media arts. I use an older 27" iMAC at school using all the same programs and more and my new computer doesn't hold a candle to its usability. For example, opening up the programs takes what I consider to be a long time being that there is nothing on the HD. While in PS, and trying to edit, without even having multiple windows open, or multiple layers, it will not instantly edit in the preview window. If and when it decides to edit the computer, then it prompts the color wheel buffer. I specifically told the guy at the store exactly what I would be using it for - to only run the Adobe programs and CC. Since owning the iMAC, I have updated the suggested programs from the apple store and had the most recent OS updates.
The model number of the computer: A1418 any help would be greatly appreciated! If I don't have the correct model I need - I will gladly make the unsaid large retail giant take it back, one way or another.

  • Is it possible to change my brand new IPad 2 with Ipad 3 / Airbook in india

    Hi,
I have packed brand new IPAD2 which I want to change with IPAD3/Airbook. Let me know if this is possible in India.
    Thanks

    You cannot trade them.
You can return your iPad 2 and take the money to buy an iPad 3, if you are in the return window(usually 14 days).
If you are outside the return window, you will have to sell your iPad 2 on eBay or something and apply the money to buying a new iPad.

  • Brand new iMac loosing Airport! Very dissapointed!!!

    Hi,
I have a brand new iMac 21.5". The first time I used it, it said there was no Airport installed. I phoned apple support and they told me to flash the pram. After that it found the Airport card.
Now it has lost it again and flashing the pram does nothing. This is very dissappointng - its BRAND NEW I haven't changed anything. Looks like I might have to return it....
    Thanks for any help.

I'm so sorry. It's rare that one needs to send a Mac in for replacement but it can happen. The posts you see here in the AD forums are but 1% of the total Mac sold so please don't get the wrong impression. It's better to send it back now instead of trouble shooting and getting more upset. The Airport card may not have been installed correctly or it's defective. One way or another you'll have a new iMac soon.
*"I spent hours setting up the computer when it first arrived and now I'll have to do that all again. "*
It shouldn't take hours to setup an iMac. Did you check the System Profiler to see if it recognizes the Airport card?
If not and if you haven't already boxed the iMac up, click the Apple Menu then click: About This Mac then click the "More Info" button. That will launch the System Profiler for you. Under Network on the left, click Airport. See if any information shows up on the right.

  • Startup disk almost full on brand new laptop - Impossible - Help!

I bought my MacBook Air about a month ago. I have not dowloaded any movies, music, or apps. I have a couple thousand photos stored on the laptop and microsoft office- that is ALL. I am receiving an error message saying my startup disk is almost full. There is absolutely NO WAY this is possible. It is practically a brand new and unused laptop. However, I did initially use "Mail" as my inbox for several email accounts. I took all my accounts offline as "Mail" moved all my emails on all my accounts into the archives folders. Now even when I log into gmail from a web browser, all my inbox and sent messages are located in the archives folders.
    My question is:
1- How do I make more room on my startup disk space, as this is clearly an error.
2- How do I recover my emails from my archive folders?
Please help. Any advise would be appreciated.

IPod will not update with cd-rom it came with - this is the first - initial - brand new install of ipod

used cd-rom that came with ipod - followed instructions to the tee - stated it can not update ipod - itunes does not see ipod - went to web site and downloaded 47mb file from june 05
still will not update - states ipod not supported by this software - the ipod is BRAND NEW - 30gb color photo ipod??
    please help me

Hi I had the same problem with my last ipod. i tried all of the steps on the apple support site but none of them worked. I decided to send my ipod in for a repair. Anyway when a week later my ipod came back it was fixed but when i loaded up the computer the disk locked again. I followed through the instructions which said to download the newest software. So i downloaded the new software again and this still didnt work. The last thing i tried to do was to use an old version of an updater so i used (ipod updater 2004-11-15) this ran through the restore process and after completing this, the menu on the ipod loaded up. I then connected to itunes and it allowed it to communicate and transfer the songs
It worked for me i hope it works for you.
    Best of luck

  • OSD with brand new HD without formating

    Hi, folks!
when i do an OSD on computers with a previous formatted hd (eg over an OEM Windows installed), runs nice. But, in machines that i need change a damaged hd for a brand new one, the OSD fails. But, when i run a quick format before use it and
try again, runs nice too. So, how can i solve it? is there any parameter in 'format and partition disk' step or any workaround to this situation?
    Thank you all!

That's because it's trying to download the content locally first which it can't do because there is no local drive to download it to. Thus, per Johan's suggestion, you need to make sure the disk is formatted first. There are many, many ways to get this
done including Johan's suggestion. I highly recommend that you use MDT and integrate it into ConfigMgr as it handles this scenario without any additional work or effort on your part.
