Brand new Dreamweaver user - question about SEND/SUBMIT button

Hello, all. Nice to meet you. I'm brand new to dreamweaver,
but not brand new to Design view in Frontpage - LOL.
I can create the basic website, with teh pictures,
thumbnails, multiple page cross links..etc.
My only question is I'm trying to make an application page -
basically a link from the home page that says APPLICATION.
I am familiar with adding text boxes for FIRST NAME/LAST
NAME/NUMBER/BEST TIME TO CALL...etc.
The only problem is I dont know what to do with that.
I don't think it can automatically send an email without smtp
info in the script, but I wouldnt mind letting it create a txt file
or something on the server so I can view it.
Or maybe it can send me an email, who knows.
Is there a really simple way or code I can use to have teh
send button somehow get to my email for me to view comments, names,
contact information...etc?

The very best thing you can do is to get a good book on HTML
and CSS and
spend some time learning the underlying technology. DW is
very different
from FP, and will expect you to have some of this
understanding under your
belt.
There are only two ways to process form data -
1. Use mailto:[email protected] as the action of the form
2. Use a server-side scripting method to a) harvest the
form's data, b)
process it in some manner, e.g., enter it into a database, c)
formulate and
send an email to one or more email recipients, and d)
redirect the visitor
to some ending page
Method 1 is quite simple, and is also the least reliable. It
depends both
on your visitor having an email client already installed on
their computer -
this eliminates public computers, or home users without email
clients
installed (more and more it seems) - and on the installed
email client
responding to
the mailto call. It is not possible to use this method *and*
send the
visitor to a
thank you page as well.
Method 2a is the preferred method, since it eliminates the
problems of
method
1, but it means that you have to grapple with
server-scripting somehow (ASP,
CF, PHP, perl, etc.).
Method 2b would be to use some third-party form processing,
like
http://www.bebosoft.com/products/formstogo/.
You would have to decide which of these methods is best for
your needs,
but if it's Method 2a, then start by asking your host what
they provide for
form
processing. If it's 2b, then read their FAQ/instructions
carefully.

    Yes 10.8.2 is the latest version of Mountain Lion. 10.7 was Lion and 10.6 was Snow Leopard.

    I have not idea how you do it with Picasa but with iPhoto you either export the photos to a desktop folder and upload from there or burns that folder to CD - or from the upload window use the media browser in the lower left hand corner of the upload windows - media ==> photos ==> iPhoto

  • Bluetooth Digital Cameras - Brand new mac user

    I am a brand new mac user and I want to buy a new digital camera, and I believe you can buy them w/bluetooth now. That way they sync with your computer instead of hard plugging them in. I know this is a totally dumb question. But I have only had my mac for two weeks. Do I have bluetooth on my system and how do I shop for a camera that would be compatible. Any help from all you apple users would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple discussions.
    I believe all Macs that are being delivered now have a built-in Bluetooth module (it used to be extra).
    To be sure, go to the little blue apple and select about this mac from the drop down menu. Click on more info. The Bluetooth module will be listed if it is present (under hardware).
    I have been digital for several years, but none of my cameras are BT capable. I am a big Kodak fan, but do not know if they have a BT camera (or if anyone does). I do not work for Kodak, but their "dock" technology makes it really easy to transfer pictures from a camera to a Mac. A big bonus. iPhoto is tightly integrated.

  • Brand new Mac user with a brand new Mac problem!

    Hi Everyone --
    I am a brand new Mac user... I've only had my MacBook Pro 13" for three days. My Mac has been continuously freezing while I use it. When it freezes I only have safari running so I know its not from application "overload". Once frozen, I cannot move the mouse, "esc" or use any commands. Essentially my only option is to force it to shut down by holding the power buttong down. Please let me know if anyone has any idea how to fix this! With school coming up I cannot afford for my computer to be freezing every 20 minutes!

    Well... I'd still take it back - let them know that you received it as a gift three days ago. They may still replace it for you or they may take it in for repair. Just be nice and explain that you don't expect a new MBP to function as it is (or malfunction) and let them, at least, run diagnostics on it. As it's so new, there may be something simple that they can fix as you wait. Did your boyfriend already register the machine with Apple or did you? They may take the registration date into account...
    But I'd take it to the Apple Store, regardless...

    Normally, you just connect the monitor to the MacBook using a VGA adaptor that you can buy from an Apple Store.  Now try System Preferences > Displays > Detect Displays.  You should now be able to select a display mode for the monitor.  If it still doesn't work, then I'd check that everything is properly connected.  I've had problems with colours disappearing due to a faulty connection in the VGA adaptor.

  • Brand new Imac user having trouble importing photos (jpgs)

    I am a brand new iMac user and am having trouble importing some of my photos into my new computer.
    Here is my dilemma:
    * All of my pics are jpgs that were shot using a sony DSC-W50 digital camera.
    * All were backed up on my exteral harddrive from my old Sony PC.
    * I loaded all of them onto my new iMac into the "Photos" area
    * When I try to import them to the iPhoto library, I get a message that either says "already in the iPhoto library" or 'unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data"
    * I can open all of the photos that I get this error msg on in other photo programs so I know the files are photos and are good.

    iPhoto is not an image viewer, it's a Database with built-in image viewer, lightweight editing and version control, and like any database, data needs to be imported. However, iPhoto will not import from the iPhoto Library Folder.
    So, move the photos to the Desktop and then import them from there.
    Here's what happens next:
    iPhoto will make a copy of them in the iPhoto Library Folder. There they will be put into the Originals Folder. Here's how the iPhoto Library Folder is organised:
    In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
    Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
    (ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
    This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
    (iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
    It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.

    I just got a Blackberry Curve 9330 from my work, and I am trying to get used to it. I have never used a blackberry before, I use a Moto Droid as a personal phone, so it is pretty different.
    Any links to good resources for tips on using this phone for business uses would be good as well, I have some more specific Q's I will post here.
    One of my main questions is if there is any other navigation besides the touchpad. It is pretty weird to use, I am playing around with the sensitivity, but it just seems unresponsive a lot of the time, and not easy to use for the general email and phone naviagtion
    Is there any way (Maybe App?) to bind the volume keys on the right side to be used to scroll through email, and other things? They seem perfectly postioned to be used to scroll. Also is there anyway to rebind the left voice command key, to use as a enter key? Again it seems perfectly positioned to be used like this. (It seems like a huge waste of a big side button if it can only be used for the voice navigation.)
    Or maybe you can bind just keys on the keyboard to function as arrow keys?
    I also have some questions about the email. It setup to connect to a blackberry server and Exchange for outlook etc as in a standard company (It's from a big company), and it gets some policies etc im sure. I don't know exactly the policies but I'm sure theres some things that may be locked down for me.
    I have all my Outlook email folders stored on my Exchange Maibox (On the desktop side), and I can see them when I go to "View Folder" on the blackberry, however only the inbox and sent items seem to have the messages in them. On my desktop outlook, I have filters that move the email to these folders. Maybe those filters only run when a desktop outlook client (2003 right now) interacts wtih exchange? Still right now I have messages in these folders, and my blackberry can see the folders, and I can into them, but they say no messages. So It seems like I should be able to view the messages in them.
    I'm also wondering if there is a refresh button, to refresh the exchange connection? Especially to refresh like the read status of email, so after I read 20 email on my desktop outlook, then I can refresh on my blackberry, and those 20 will appear as read messages
    I'm also wondering how I can make shortcuts on the desktop? Like can you make a direct call ,or direct email shortcut to someone in your contacts? And is it possible to make a shorcut to directly open a folder in your exchange mailbox?(Assumeing theres a way to get the messages to show up in them)

    Reconcile is a slow process, but there is a reconcile now option if it is enabled on the BES server.

    I have also changed the messages state size to 1000 and it cured 99% of our issues.
    The performance hit and RAM increase is almost nil on the BES box.
    On Device also double check:
    Make sure that Wireless Reconcile is set to On. Sometimes toggling that to off, saving it, then turning it back on.
    Messages Options - Email reconciliation -
    Delete on Mailbox and handheld,
    wireless reconcile = Yes
    On conflicts = Mailbox wins.
    If still not working and you moved a user mailbox.

    Is the user over quota?

    not Flash. You need to tell your PHP script to return a variable
    instead of printing HTML.

  • Brand new GB user: How do I record voice-only for posting only?

    New owner of an iMac intel OS 10.6.8, brand new user of GarageBand, awaiting graduation from the Berkeley School of Music (heh, not really) but
    wishing to know if I can use the same audio input system (mic) already well used with Dragon Dictate voice reocognition system for the purpose of producing a "podcast" (audiobook) I can post in my online blog.
    The music portion will come in time as I have a good virtual friend in Arkansas who is a solid rock bass guitarist and blues man and I am a huge fan of music (especially jazz) and especially Keith Jarrett and very especially Gary Peacock. We will in good time record and compose our own music, he more live. He is way more advanced, but I just bought us two books -- one on music notation and the other Marsalis "Moving to Higher Ground". 
    I have in mind a jazz suite based on Gustavo Santoalalla's soundtrack for "Motorcycle Diaries". [It's an open source idea.]

    Thanks, tt2. Yes, the brevity is a no-go for the application I have in mind. I could go straight to a podcast provider (at significant cost). But the iTalk recorder... does it record to an mp3 or something similar which I can then affix to a web page? I have one blog up and running, and another in the works (different hosting software in each case, one requiring a host (WordPress), the other doesn't (Blogger)). I can dictate to text directly with DragonSpeaking, but the idea of having a downloadable podcast of content for educational purposes is what I am after. Perhaps neither is the solution, and I will simply have to pull out the credit card and pay significant annual fees.

  • Prompt user, when hitting with SUBMIT button

    Hello folks,
    I have application with student record, on 1st page user enters student's name and on 2nd page user enters students grade and their are two buttons on 3rd page saying SAVE and SUBMIT, with the hitting of both the buttons students record enterred by the user will be INSERTED into DB table.
    Now I want to add a functionality saying, student_name as mandatory filled <b>only when user hits SUBMIT button</b> on 3rd page, hence user cannot submit leaving mandatory filled as empty. So I want to prompt a window on 3rd page with the student_name item where user can enter student's name and hit OK button the same prompted window which will help user to SUBMIT that particular student.
    any idea how to achieve it, how to validate and prompt user, when user submits students without entering mandatory items/fields.

    Thanks for replying, yes I'm very aware about your reply but I'm having req. so was trying to implement same into my current application.
    I tried a small example into apex workspace to better understand have a look into it:-
    workspace :- deepapex
    username :- [email protected]
    password :- walubu
    application "Prompt_only_for_Submit"
    I kept validation on page 3 if user doesnt enters student_name(on page 1) upto here it's working perfect than I started implementing JavaScript to open a prompt, but I want to open this prompt only when user doesnt enters student_name on page 1 and not everytime, also within this prompt I was looking how to have text_box item where user can enter student_name on page 3 where he actually forgotted to enter on page 1, so this new student_name item will go into insert process and hence this will be done, I'm away of the logic but really lacking to implement it.
    So if you can help little it will be glad to you.

  • New user - questions about email setup and synchronization

    Hi,
    I'm a not-particularly-techno-savvy new owner of a BlackBerry Curve 8900. My questions are:
    1      I seem to only have the option to use a work email account with a BB Enterprise server and not the option to create or add an email addy. How do I resolve this?
    2      I've installed the BlackBerry Desktop Manager but when I try to synchronize data from my device - organiser stuff and contacts - I get a message saying there are no applications configured, with subsequent instructions as to how to do this but I then have to choose from a huge list of folders and other stuff and have no idea what to do!
    I'm really hoping someone will be kind enough to try and help as I'm floundering dreadfully.

    Jan,
    When you install Desktop Manager it gives you the option to setup with an enterprise server or internet email, I can't tell from your post which you have.
    However, to pick the applications to sync, assuming you have Desktop Manager 4.7,
    open Desktop Manager
    Click on Synchronize on the left side of the screen
    On the next screen that opens, choose Synchronize under the word "Configure" (also put check marks in all the boxes that will allow you to check)
    On the next screen to open choose Synchronization on the "right" side
    In a couple of seconds another screen will open up where you can choose what applications to sync (calendar in Outlook, tasks in Outlook, Contacts in Outlook etc)  just choose each program you need to sync and choose the program on your PC to use such as Outlook.
    I also have the 8900 and it syncs with my Outlook 2003 for contacts, calendar, memo and tasks.

  • New user, question about encoding...probably been covered a few times

    I am new to MAC's and video. Let me get this straight and make sure I am doing this right. I made a 1hr 18 minutes video in IMOVIES. I exported it (Share Movies - Medium Size for DVD viewing). It takes like 2 1/2 hours to encode. Is this right? Then, I opened up Magic DVD in IDVD and pulled the Video that I made on IMOVIES and added one of their snazzy intros. From this point, I am a little confused. Do i go to Project - project info - and change to high quality? or keep at Best Performance? Even though my video is 79 min (4.36 GB) it says I have reached my maximum amount and need to change encoding or something to burn? where do I go for that?
    Lastly, right now I am on project info, set to best performance and it is encoding. How long does a 79 min video take to encode? Is it going to let me burn it after it finishes? Sorry new here but a quick learner.

    I am not sure with imovie since I use only Final Cut Pro. iDVD setting will let you expand the file for length. Naturaly the best quality pr performance will take less time of a file. In the case with iDVD 4 the best quality will only take 60 minutes of video already compressed. Best performance will take up to about 1 hour nd 49 minutes. You have to leave enough room for the menu to take up some space on the disc as well. In FCP we have to export as a quicktime file where with a 1 hour 30 min video can take about 20 minutes to export. the burning and compression time depends on the system you have. G5 faster, G4 like mine takes longer. on that same video idvd 4 will take about 3 hours to convert and burn the disc. When I use DVD Pro Studio that is way different and take a lot longer. I have had a typical 2 hour video take up to 14 hours to convert/export to a MPEG 2 format or DVD format. But the burning process take about an hour. It all depends on your equipment.
