Break a table

I have a long table in Pages, that I want to break up and insert into an iBook Author doc.
I don't see a way to break a table in pages. (Can be done in Word, actually, mayby I'll just use word.) But would still like to know if it's possible to do it in Pages.
Thanks

Brent,
I don't know of a way to break a table in Pages either. You can Copy and  Paste, followed by Deleting Rows that were copied.
Of course you can break the Table in Numbers and bring it back into Pages in parts.
Remember that if there are cell references in the table the links may be broken by this action because Pages doesn't support external table references.

  • Unwanted page breaks in table

Using FM8. I have a table of several rows starting on page x. after the first row, the next row jumps to the page x+1. It's there alone because the 3d row jumps to the page x+2. None of these rows contain enough text to cause a page break, and I'm left with huge blank portions on my pages. I can't discern how this table is different from the dozens of tables already in this document. is there a setting somewhere that allows table rows to stay together? Something is causing the individual rows to go the the next page. The paragraph designer does not show keep-with-next, or any other setting that would cause this. Thanks.

If you highlight a table row (i.e. select all the cells from left to right) then look in the menu Table > Row Format, you'll see the settings for that specific row as far as keep with next / keep with previous.
There's also a setting for the table itself that determines how many rows have to be kept together when the table breaks across pages -- look at teh Table Designer, in the "Basic" tab, bottom left corner, Orphan rows.
There can be strange row breaks in tables at times if FM gets conflicting instructions for the keep with next / previous and the Orphan rows settings.

  • Table Overflow - Page Break - Multiple tables in Body page in Adobe forms

    Hi,
I have to do a payslip in Adobe forms. I am using only Adobe for print forms.
Please redirect me to correct category if this is wrong category.
I am customizing standard form PYXXFO_SAP_PAYSLIP_IN01. (payslip for india through hrforms)
The standard form is entirely positional. So, if the contents of the table overflow, they are overwritten on the contents below.
So, I have to make corrections to adjust the payslip for table overflows.
    My changes:
    1. There are total 8 tables in form. I created content areas for each of them and assigned the subforms/tables to those content areas.
    2. I converted the body page from positional to flowed, and applied the related pagebreak settings.
    The problem I am facing:
When the earnings table overflows, the rest of the content is displayed on second page, in a continuous manner.
    eg.
The structure of the form is:
    Header details
earnings table   deductions table   form16 table
    Other tables
    leave details
now, if the earnings table overflows -
    page 1:
    Header details
    earnings table (page break)
    Page2:
    (continued)earnings table
    page3:
(continued)earnings table   deductions table   form16 table
    Other tables
    leave details
In this, the deduction table and form16 table is shown on 3rd page. I wish to show them on the first page as they have not overflown.
I am sure, I am missing something very small, but I am unable to understand what.
I tried all the possible combinations.
Does the main subform needs to be "positional"?
They way I expect it is:
    page 1:
    Header details
earnings table (page break)    deductions table   form16 table
    Other tables
    leave details
    Page2:
    {Header details - It would be great if I could have this}
    (continued)earnings table
    page3:
    {Header details}
    (continued)earnings table
Also, If this is successful, I would like to apply the same feature to rest 6-7 tables.

    This was a duplicate question.
Kindly remove this thread if possible.
The solution for this thread is as follows:
I was sort of hoping that there should be some standard functionality available for this, it being Adobe, but there is not.
So, I had to run a work around. Quite a lengthy one.
    What the problem was:
I needed to print around 4-5 tables adjacent to each other in single page and in verticals. What Adobe does is: it fills 1st table, then 2nd then 3rd and so on. So, if there is a page break due to large entries in the adobe, the contents breaks with rest of the tables being blank, but the content being filled sequentially.
    What I did was:
I created a grand table with the structure having all the tables embedded in it. eg.
data: begin of grand_table occrs 0,
    table_A type table_a_table_type,
    table_B type table_b_table_type,
    table_c type table_c_table_type,
    end of grand_table.
Hence, I could include all the data in a one single grand table, and put the data in sequential manner.

  • Page break if table is not going to completely fit on the current page

I am working on converting the Beenfits Enrollment forms from SQR to BIP, and I am having issues getting the page breaking to happen as desired. If benefit type is grouped with a for-each group, but no matter what way I implement breaks, it breaks every time, not just when needed. I can email a sample XML and template to someone to help explain it better if needed. I have tried in the table row properties, word paragraph break options, <xsl:attribute name="break-before">page</xsl:attribute>, etc. Any help would be great.

Finally I got the reason, to fix it we should change as following:

  • Add page break to tables in a section report

I have one sectioned report when I export to excel I can manually add page breaks so that different regions print on a seperate page. However I want to do this in webi.
In webi when i highlight the table in the section that i want to have on a seperate page the break icon is greyed out so not sure if its possible to add breaks to a report that contains only 1 section? if so how to do it?

    hi,
I think your requirement is to display each table on a separate page.
If so, then select the table in section, Go to properties tab, Check the option 'Start on new Page'.
Now each sectioned table will be displayed in each page.

  • I can't break a table row between pages (going nuts!)

I'm setting a several page table (one of a few I need to set for a book) with long texts in many of the cells. I'm using CS3 InDesign on a new Mac. I've looked at similar threads (been struggling with this all day).
The paragraph style and table style both specify 0 lines to keep together. There is no cell style.
The maximum height for rows is taller than the page.
The Word document I'm importing from lets the rows break across pages.
When I add a row with vertically overset text, the row disappears. If I increase the size of the frame below the page, the row shows up.
I am ready to run screaming into the night.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

It's one of the limitations of InDesign ...
A bad -- but working -- manual way, is to insert a new row below the offending one and copy as much lines as needed into the new one. (Sigh -- I can't believe I'm actually proposing this.)
Send Adobe a Feature Request -- https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform -- because it doesn't qualify as a bug, it's in the Help.

  • No page break between table header and first line of the table main area

    Hi all.
I'm printing a form which contains a lot of tables. Sometimes while printing the table header line remains at the bootom of  the page and the lines of internal table are printed on the next page (also with header because i have marked 'at page break' in the header). How is it possible not to break header line of 'Table'-node and the first line of internal table?
    Regards, Nikolai.

    Hello Niki,
    try to use page protection......
create a folder and place the text that r to be displayed without break.........
and check the checkbox page protection.
I think you cannot put an entire table in a folder & turn "Page Protection" on simultaneously.
    Any ideas?

  • Orphan table header at bottom of page when page breaks a table across multiple pages

    Hi all,
I think similar questions have been asked before but I have not found an answer.
    Here's the scenario:
I have several dynamic tables in a dynamic form.  The layout is flowed, and everything can grow and shrink as needed.  That all works.
However, my tables have headers.  Occasionally when one of these tables is large and needs to break across multiple pages, there will be just enough room at the bottom of the previous page to show the next table header, but not enough space to show any of the related table rows.  So it ends up looking silly, with just an orphaned header at the bottom of one page, and then the table continues on the next.
I have my tables set up so that headers get repeated on subsequent pages, by setting the header row to "repeat row for each data item" on the binding tab.  I would like to keep that functionality, but I just want to find a way to avoid these "orphaned" table headers that sometimes appear.
I have tried the "keep with next" option.  However, although this does push the rendering of the header to the next page, it seems that according to livecycle the table still officially began on the previous page.  Therefore I get a duplicate header because of the "repeat row for each data item" option.
I have also tried having two header rows, one that is set to only be displayed on the initial page, and the other that is set to appear only on subsequent pages (pagination tab).  This did not work - I ended up with duplicate table headers.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

You shouldn't have "repeat row for each data item" selected for header rows.
You should have "include header row in initial page" and "include header row in subsequent pages" selected on the Pagination tab.
Then using a "keep with next" might work ok.

  • Is it possible to insert a column break in table text?

I have a bullet list--a Purchase Order checklist.
Each list item is fairly short, so I designed the checklist with a two column format.
I have implemented this in my LiveCycle form by breaking the checklist into two blocks of source text, each mapped to a table cell.
However, my customer is unhappy with the idea of their text being broken into two pieces as it will display in their web UI as two pieces and they think this will be confusing. (Customers. Go figure.)
Is there a character I can insert in the text to force a break so the text will flow to the next column in the table? I tried using a conditional break but that did not work as I can only specify content areas, not fields.
    Thanks,
    Janet

holding the <option> key while typing return will insert a newline character in a cell

  • Style Breaks for Table of Contents

I want to generate a Table of Contents from a "Harvard" style outline. The problem I am having is that the TOC pulls all the text from the list item rather than just the heading. So, the outline looks like this:
    I. Heading
       A. Subheading. Blah Blah Blah Blah...
       B. Subheading. Yada Yada Yada....
When I generate the TOC, I want just:
    I. Heading
       A. Subheading.
       B. Subheading.
I've tried to style the blah and yada using character styles but it doesn't seem to override the paragraph style. Word has a "style break" or some invisible code you can insert in the middle of a paragraph to switch styles. I think I could do something like this:
    I. Heading
       A. Subheading.
            Blah Blah Blah.
       B. Subheading.
            Yada Yada Yada.
But I prefer the text relating to the heading to be in the same paragraph.
    Ideas? Cheers!

    Hi Vivek,
If that is the case do some thing like :
Create a repor (Main) with only employee names
Create another report (Sub report) with all employee details
Insert this sub report in your main report as Ondemand sub report beside your employee name with the name 'click here'
Link both main and sub report using a common field
Now when you click on On demand sub report it will execute the details.
It looks like your employee names report
    Thanks,

  • Equivalent of a frame break in table cells?

    Hi,
I'm working in tables a lot more than I used to. I was wondering if there was an easy way to move the info from one cell to the next one since I've got a few places where I should have had multiple tabs in the original information that I converted to tables (I was stripping out millions of tab characters but apparently I needed to leave a few in since some cells should be empty in the table). I don't know if cells are still connected to each other (?). I know column break and frame break don't work so just wondering if anything would or if they're completely separate things now (where I'd need to cut and paste).
Thanks & hope that made sense,
    Phyllis

Beware, though, the slightly odd paste behaviour. ID refuses (silently) to paste cells if source and destination do not have the same merged/unmerged properties.
For instance, you can't copy one single cell to another which consists of two merged ones; you have to workaround using text selections (and that doesn't span multiple cells).
On a happy note, try this! Copy a single cell, select an entire column, paste. The cell value gets repeated! Great for placeholders, or those yearly finance reports where everything turns out as "$0.00".

  • How to remove paragraph breaks from table cells?

I need to remove paragraph breaks from selection of cells in my table and replace them with a space and a dot.
Tried this and it did not work:
    =SUBSTITUTE(AH2,CHAR(10)," .")
I also tried to use find and replace, but it didn't work either.
    Any ideas?

Did you read the error message returned by the app ?
I also tried to use find and replace, but it didn't work either.
I'm sure that you didn't inserted the correct value in the "Find/Search" field but I can't guess what was the one which you inserted ? .
I selected the character to replace, Copy it then pasted it in the Find/Search field.

  • Automatic line break in table of contents?

I have several long chapter titles that collide with the page number. Is there a way to set an automatic line break or something that will break the line at the same place? I could do this manually of course, but if I update the toc it would disappear agein. See image below. Thanks

It's not clear if "Hm?" if you are asking about the appearance of the dot leader and page reference that follow the second line of the TOC entry. Are you asking if this is an acceptable form? Are you thinking that the dot leader and page reference should appear on the first line of the TOC entry, and have the excess text wrap around?
Have you tried applying the "no break" property to the last few words of the title paragraph in the main text, or replacing standard spaces between the last few words with non-breaking spaces, to see how the TOC process works with them?
    [EDIT[
If applying the non-break property works satisfactorily for your needs, you can automate the process partially by manually inserting a "non-joiner" character in the main title text, at the point where you'd like the line to break, and define the TOC-entry paragraph style to have a nested style that applies the no-break property starting from the non-joiner to the end of the paragraph.
Search Google for "InDesign non-joiner" and " InDesign no break" without quotes, to find information from all over the Web, as well as topics in these Adobe forums and in InDesign help."

  • Patch 141505-05 breaks state table handling / networking with ipfilter

    Hi,
after applying 141505-05 on "SunOS sun 5.10 Generic_142901-02 i86pc i386 i86pc" I had serious problems with the ipfilter firewall.
The problem is that entries in the state table do not get purged after the TTL.
To reproduce I do (via console):
    - have ipfilter configured with "keep state" on incoming port http
-> example:"pass in quick on bge0 proto tcp from any to any port = 80 flags S keep state group 20"
    - have patch applied/not applied for comparsion
    - have a webserver running on "test" solaris machine
    - have ab2 (apache benchmark) on "client"
    - disable ipfilter for the next command "svcadm disable ipfilter"
    - lower the state table size to get the error with much less requests "ipf -T fr_statemax=100,fr_statesize=120"
    - svcadm enable ipfilter
    - from the "client": ab2 -c 20 -n 200 http://test/ (ab2 here is ApacheBench, Version 2.3 <$Revision: 655654 $> on opensuse 11.2)
    - watch the state table with "ipfstat -tC" on the test machine fill up with entires in state (8/8) and positive ttl
Source IP Destination IP ST PR #pkts #bytes ttl
    client ip,52041 test ip,80 8/8 tcp 11 668 1:59
    - wait until the state table is full
    - ping the test machine from anywhere (will not work with "keep state" icmp rule) or use any other service with "keep state" rules
-> this is the supposed behavior, see: http://blogs.sun.com/SashaN/entry/packet_gets_blocked_eventhoug_it
    - watch the entries in the state table time-out (default 2 minutes)
    - with "141505-05" the entries will not time out and the ttl will just get negative, without it (here:"141505-04") the entries will disappear
    - with "141505-05" services with state-full filtering will not be accessible again after the time-out, without it the service will be accessible again
Is this behavior reproducible / known?

I had the same problems on all my comps, sparc/intel , I got minus TTL. Dont install that patch otherwise you are dead.
    After patch 141506-05 / 141505-05 SunOS 5.10: ipf patch. I got " -TTL".
Source IP Destination IP ST PR #pkts #bytes ttl

Is it new feature "minus" TTL or somebody did not have enough IQ to test that patch ?

  • Sap.table.table onAfterRendering event breaks the table rows and cols

    Hi guys,
I am coloring all the rows, which don't have an entry.
I do that by using the event onAfterRendering from the table control.
The coloring is working fine, but the rows and cols get broken as u can see on the attached picture.
By adding a new entry to the table, they get fixed.
Any ideas how could i fix that?
    I appreciate any help.
    Regars,
    Georgi

This is because you have overwritten the library code :-)
    please do this.
    <yourControl>.onAfterRendering = function() {
         sap.ui.table.Table.prototype.onAfterRendering.apply(this);
         <your code> ....
