"Break on column_name " in a report

I have a report that I need to break on a column name and have 5 lines between the break columns value changes, so break on <column_name> skip 5 works fine.
However I want to introduce or insert the column headings whenever the break column value changes. I get this headings only when I skip page.
So please help
Regards,
Prasanna

Just because the column names were in quotations when the database was created doesn't mean that the quotes are actually part of the names. What's inside the quotes is what makes the column name in the database. If I created a column as "abcd" and put it in quotes just like that ("abcd"), it would go in the database as abcd since SQL would strip off the quotes.
And there's your answer. Just put all column names in quotes whenever you need to talk to SQL. It will strip off the quotes and understand.
I think SQL will also accept square brackets ([ and ]).

  • Page breaks in (html) printed apex report

    I am having a strange problem that appears to be related to APEX page template.
    I have a report that is html generated by a PL/SQL function. I need to have page breaks in the printed report at specific locations. I am adding this style to the html output of the function:
    <STYLE>
    DIV.pageBreak { page-break-before: always; }
    </STYLE>
    and I insert this at the locations I need breaks:
    < D I V CLASS="pageBreak"/>
    (without the spaces in DIV)
    (found this technique here: http://www.unagibay.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=1&tabid=100&itemid=1821 )
    This works perfect when I run the report in IE, but FireFox is "ignoring" the page breaks. However, if I take just the output of the PL/SQL function in an html doc, FireFox works fine (breaks at the proper places). This makes me believe something related to the "page wrapper" content generated by APEX causes FireFox to not handle the breaks.
    I have tried copying and editing the Popup and Printer Friendly page templates, but I either remove too much and the page doesn't render, or the page breaks don't work.
    My questions for the APEX gurus are:
    1. Is there an "approved" way to get page breaks in the printed version of an APEX report, or is there a better way to do what I need to do.
    2. What is the minimum contents for a page template (what can I safely remove).
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hi Owen,
    the page breaks are inserted before/after the section.  Expand the report structure window and make sure that the properties window is open below.  Once you click on the section part, you will see where you can insert the page breaks - the check boxes will appear in the properties.
    yes on the second part - just insert the page break between the data providers and then repeat the header for the data provider on the pages (also check boxes on the properties tab)
    Good luck

  • Page break problem in Sales Order Report

    Hi,
    I have made a RTF template for Sales Order Report. The template is designed to contain max 10 lines.
    Now if number of lines are less than 10(1 page) or more than 10(2 pages) then PDF output is coming fine.
    But if there are exactly 10 lines then instead of printing only 1 page it prints 2 pages, 1st page with 10 lines of data and 2nd page with only header & footer.
    Can anybody help?
    Regards.

    How do you define when they page break happens?
    Try to use:
    <?split-by-page-break:?>
    Check the user guide for more information.

  • Break Column in Group Above Report - Causing Error in Data Groupings

    Since I'm required to designate at least one Break Column in my Group Above report, I created a dummy column in my SELECT statement. I did this so that I could designate the required minimum of at least one break column, but I designated one that won't have any impact on how the report is ordered, because it will be the same value (NULL) for every record. So, my SELECT statement starts out looking something like this:
    SELECT
    NULL break_column,
    column_1 column1_name,
    column_2 column2_name,
    column_3 column3_name,
    column_4 column4_name,
    column_5 column5_name
    I needed for the break column to have no impact on the ordering of the report because I need for the ORDER BY clause to completely control how the report is sorted, w/o any interference by a hard-coded break column. I need this because my intention is to make the ORDER BY clause dynamic, and a hard-coded break column with actual data would supercede the ORDER BY clause, thereby making it static.
    Everything is working correctly with regard to how the report is sorting the records designated as group columns; however, the detail columns are getting all messed up as far as what main record they're grouped under.
    By this I mean that when I designate only one break column, some details may display under the wrong group, where they're not supposed to. For example, each page consists of demographic info. about a specific record on a table, and the details listed under it should be the individual comments that have been made on that record. The issue I'm seeing is that for some records, it's showing comments from not only the record for that group, but it continues to list out comments made for other requests as well, when those comments should be displayed under their own respective records.
    Why is this happening when I designate only one break column, and how can I keep it from doing this?

    Did you get a solution for this?
    I have the same problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Madhu

  • First group heading below displays below column headings using Template 23 Classic Report using Repeat Headings on Break

    Hello,
    I am migrating an application from APEX 3 to APEX 4.2 on one thing I notice with the classic reports when I bring them into Template 23 is that the first break section has the break row display below the column headers for that section while the remaining rows correctly have it display above the headers on subsequent group sections.
    When I look a the code in firebug I can seen that the all tables but the first, the break row is being included as the last row of the previous table so I can see how this would not work for the break since.
    I have tow questions.
    1. Is this really intentional because it doesn't seem  terribly elegant and my users zeroed in on it right away as a perceived bug.
    2. Is there a reasonable work around that still uses Repeat Headings on Break? I have multiple reports on the same page in places so changing over to interactive reports is not a silver bullet for me in this case.
    Example of issue can be seen at apex.oracle.com at  Home
    Thanks,
    Brad

    The Standard report template definition in theme 23 contains thead and tbody elements:
    Before Column Heading
    <thead>
    Column Heading Template
    <th #ALIGNMENT# id="#COLUMN_HEADER_NAME#">#COLUMN_HEADER#</th>
    After Column Heading
    </thead>
    <tbody>
    After Rows
    </tbody>
    </table>
    </td>
    </tr>
    </tbody>
    <tbody class="uReportPagination">
    #PAGINATION#
    </tbody>
    </table>
    <div class="uReportDownloadLinks">#EXTERNAL_LINK##CSV_LINK#</div>
    This is intentional, following best practice for marking up HTML tables. What is not intended is the problem that arises when this template is used with the Repeat Headings on Break break formatting option. The repeated headings result in the table consisting of tag soup containing multiple incorrectly constructed tbody and thead elements, which is invalid.
    2. Is there a reasonable work around that still uses Repeat Headings on Break? I have multiple reports on the same page in places so changing over to interactive reports is not a silver bullet for me in this case.
    Create a copy of the Standard report template as Standard (break formatting) for use with break reports, remove the thead and tbody tags from the template definitions, and change the break reports to use the new template. (Or, if you primarily have break reports using the Standard template, keep the tags in the copy and remove them from the original to minimize the number of reports you have to edit.)
    Personally I'd create a custom row report template for complex break reports in order to be able to have complete control over the structure and presentation.

  • Report in text format show break page !!

    when i generate a report in char mode, in a text file, it show a break page between the head section and the principal section. there is any way to delete this break page (a line command or properties ( i specify a desformat no_ff)).
    thanks.

    To get a output data to a text file that contains no form feeds ( page breaks ), or other control characters in the output), do followings:
    Modify the printer definition file to eliminate form feeds
    a. Invoke a text editor and open the file dflt.prt.
    b. Move to the following line:
    after pages control(L)
    Remove "control(L)" so the line appears as shown
    below:
    after pages
    Removing the control sequence from the printer definition file will keep the output from breaking between pages when the report is formatted.

  • Preserving control break formatting in report downloads with BI Publisher

    Hello,
    I am using APEX 4.0.2 and would like to know if anyone has a step by step process or tutorial for preserving control break formatting in an interactive report that has been downloaded to any or all of the available file formats. I am using BI Publisher, to which I am very new, to do the report printing of the Reports Region to a PDF, RTF, XLS, CSV or HTML file. Currently, when we download the report to any of the file formats, the formatting is stripped out and only standard row/columns are being saved.
    BTW, I have changed my username to something more friendly but it has not yet taken effect.
    Thanks,
    Marcy

    Hi Venkat,
    Thanks for your quick respond.
    1.) Auto Run is enabled. And the report runs automatically as well. But then it ignores the dashboard prompt (as a regular report would do as well). But when I choose some values in the prompt and then press go. Then it says I have to press on view as well.
    2.) no that is not the case. My report is so big that it always need a scroll bar ;) also adjusting the size settings in the dashboard doesn't help. The only occurs when viewing in HTML, when previewing in excel or RTF it all just work fine.
    3.) true, but ow well this is the least importetant one ;) so if this doesn't work, than it doesn't work ;)
    4.) Ok, I will have a look on that.
    5.) I did enabled HTML and EXCEL outputs in my BIP report. But when the first point is working, then I don't want to see the control bar anymore and I want to have the output on the dashboard in HTML and then I want to build a button, or a link or something that exports the request to excel. Is that possible?

  • Hide Interactive Report Control Break from page

    I have a page with an Interactive Report. I have hidden the Search Box and Actions menu (based on users's request). I also want to hide the text on the page for the Control Break I created for the report (the part that shows the column name for the Control Break and the X icon next to it). Anyone know how this is accomplished?
    Application Express 4.0.2.00.07
    Thanks.

    This stuff seems to sit in a table with the following attributes:
    class="control_panel"
    id="apexir_CONTROL_PANEL"So you should be able to apply a style to hide that entire table, such as .control_panel{display:none} or #apexir_CONTROL_PANEL{display:none}

  • Report Break Formatting

    Can someone please point me to examples of using the various report break formatting options under Report Attributes? Screenshots of this in action using various options would be highly appreciated.

    This is from: Linnemeyer, Lawrence C., and Bradley D. Brown. <u>Oracle HTML DB Handbook</u>. Emeryville, CA: McGraw-Hill/Osborne, 2006. 222-224.<br><br>
    This description taken directly from the book and is for version 2.0. <br><br>
    Limitations: "...Only break on one, two, or three columns, and they must be the first columns in the report. The second limitation is that you are fairly restricted in formatting the breaks." <br><br>
    "The Break Formatting section of the Report Attribute page provides the input fields for controlling report breaks. The first field, Display This Text When Printing Report Sums, is always active and is used whenever you select the Sum check box for a numeric column in the Report Column Attributes section. If you do not provide text in this field, the HTML DB engine will automatically include the label "report total:". The Breaks field defaults to No Breaks and allows you to select to break the report on the first column, the first and second columns, or the first, second, and third columns. Once you select a value other than No Breaks, the remainder of the columns will be enabled. <br><br>
    The next field, Display This Text on Report Breaks Using #SUM_COLUMN_HEADER# Substitutions, is the way you can format what is displayed when a report breaks to show subtotals. If you leave the field blank, the HTML DB engine will automatically display on the break rows “<i>columnheading</i> total:”. You can customize what is displayed using this field. Use the substitution variable #SUB_COLUMN_HEADER# to reference the header of the break column. Unfortunately, the current version (version 2.0 at time of printing) does not allow you to reference the value of the break column. <br><br>
    The first and last field in the center section of the Break Formatting section can be used to format a row before and after the break row, respectively. Unfortunately, with the way they are currently implemented, you must provide the complete HTML code for the row. For instance, if your report has five columns, you would enter something like: <br><br>
    < t r >< t d >first col< / t d >< t d colspan = “3” >< t d >last col< / t d >< / t d >< / t r >
    <br><br>
    The center field is used to format the actual break column. The formatting entered needs to be the HTML for a column and can use the #COLUMN_VALUE# substitution variable, like this: <br><br>
    < t d align=right >#COLUMN_VALUE#< / t d >
    <br><br>
    Note that all the columns in the row will have the formatting applied to them. <br><br>
    The final two fields provide you two different options for displaying the first column break. The field Identify How You Would Like Your Breaks to be Displayed has two possible values: Default Break Formatting and Repeat Headings on Break. The Repeat Headings on Break option causes the first breaking column to be reported as a heading with the column headings for all the remaining columns repeated after each break.”<br><br>

  • Report page break not correct in browser

    Hi all
    I have 150+ reports that I am converting from 6i to 10g. These repors print correctly in 6i (client SErver) with page break at proper places. When I run the same report on web, the page breaks in the reports are converted to lines in the html output. Also the page headers appearin the middle of the page. Page break seems to be controlled by the browser and not by report. How do I make the report page break the same way as in 6i.
    any help is appreciated. We are in the middle of testing and the users will not sign off until this is resolved.

    SET
    System parameter MODE = Default
    On Report Level Property Sheet
    Under Report Escapes
    SET After Page Value =
    <table style="page-break-before: always;height=0"></table>
    Run reports as DESFORMAT=HTML
    This will resolve the Page Break issue.
    Unfortunately, printing reports from browser will generate a blank last page.
    Perhaps the command line parm BLANKPAGES=NO will work for you...
    I am told it does not work because printing is a browser issue not a reports issue...

  • Default Style Column Breaking in an Interactive report

    In a normal SQL report there are two types of column break formatting:
    1) Default Breaking Format e.g.
    aaa 123
            456
    bbb 789
            123
    2) Repeat Headings e.g.
    aaa
    123
    456
    bbb
    789
    123
    Interactive reports seem to only implement Repeat Headings . Is it possible to break columns in an IR report using "Default Breaking Format"? If so how?

    Oracle Application Express (APEX)
    As interactive reports lack the HTML Expression feature of standard reports, the simple way to do this unfortunately requires violating the separation of concerns and generating structural (a <tt>span</tt> element) and presentational (an in-line style sheet) aspects in the query:
    select
    ⋮
           , case
               when trunc(calling_date,'DD') =  trunc(sysdate,'DD')
               then
                 '<!-- ' || to_char(calling_date, 'YYYYMMDD') || ' --><span style="color: #3399FF;">' || to_char(calling_date) || '</span>'
               else
                 '<!-- ' || to_char(calling_date, 'YYYYMMDD') || ' --><span>' || to_char(calling_date) || '</span>'
             end calling_date
    ⋮For number/date columns to be properly sortable, the leading edge of the column must be an HTML comment that provides the required sort order using character semantics, as shown here.
    The Display As column attribute for such columns must be set to Standard Report Column.
    This method has side effects: some IR filters won't work; aggregate calculations can't be applied to the column; and report exports contain the HTML rather than the expected value.
    Other approaches involve using Dynamic Actions/jQuery/JavaScript, or using the built-in highlight as suggested above, then saving the highlighted report as the default.
