Bridge CC / How to use all cores to generate JPEG images?

Hi!
Is there anyway to tell Bridge, that it should use all my cores to generate the JPEG images out of RAWs?
Actually it uses less then 25% of my CPU performance. I've a Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3,4 GHZ, with four cores and enabled hyperthreading, also eight virtual CPUs.
At least it could be FOUR times faster, if it would use all available cores, but so I get one preview per second (12 MP RAWs). So I've to wait in case of 100 RAWs round 3:30 minutes. If would use all CPUs, which are available, it could increase speed less then 1 minutes.
In my case, I've to create often up too 500 JPEGs in one go. So instead of 17-18 minutes it would take less then 5 minues. 12 minutes less!
I just wonder, why I bought a good PC, if Adobe is not using the power of the CPUs and tries to work parellel instead of seriel.
As there any chance, or does Adobe have no interest, like it has no interest to speed up LightRoom?
If there is any chance, I would be very pleased.
Thanks

Sorry, I could not know, that issue is caused by the same flaw in the software:

It's really frustrating:
While Adobe Camera RAW is able to process different images in parallel and speeding up the process.
Other teams of Adobe are still telling me, that it's impossible to process several images in parallel and speeding up the Bridge thumbnail and preview generating process:

• How to use displacement Filter with a jpeg image?

Hi there,
I'm trying to use the displacement filter with a jpeg image instead of a gradient map. My images are:
1) Background: men2.jpg
2) Map image: men2BN.jpg (same as above, but grayscale and blurred)
3) The image to be displaced: star5_mc
I'll appreciate very much any help with this issue, Thanks in advance. Madrid.

create a bitmapdata instance (using the new constructor) and then apply the filter to your bitmap instance.

• Premiere Pro is not using all core power for rendering of timeline

I have got PremierePro CS5.5 and i7 920 and nvidia GTX 295. When i edit my footage (cineform) everything is fine becouse i am using CUDA boost but when i am trying to render timeline i saw on my CPU & GPU Monitor that rendering is using maybe about 10% of power of all cores (8 cores). How to do to use all cores power when i am rendering my timeline?

When i am using cuda i work much faster with fullhd timeline than i am working with cpu. I thought that cuda is accelerating only editing of timeline becouse line is always yellow and when i am using rendering line is green and system is using cpu power. So i thought that cuda is acceleration only for editing without rendering acceleration. When i would use cuda for rendering acceleration system should work faster than with cpu rendering and it`s not true.
What is fastest way to turning off CUDA (to turn it on for a while).
Thanks a lot...

thank you very much!!

I have a situation here, I need to learn how to use
java with mysql
. Can I connect to a MYSQL DB with servlets?Yes... documentation to help you connect to any database can be found at http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc. To connect to MySQL, you'll need drivers (sourceforge.net), and the specific connection URL for those drivers will be included in the documentation.
how can I build an e-mail server with java (no matter
how difficult)If you're fairly new to JSP/Servlets, you may be in over your head here, since an email server is no easy application to code. Here's a link to the source code for the JAMES project... Apache's Java email server... maybe you can find some useful information there...

• How to use Flex Builders Auto Generated CFCs

OK. Not only have I already gone to a 4 day flex training,
have an advanced coldfusion certification and work with 3 coworkers
who have done the same...none of us can figure out how in the heck
the flex builder's autogenerated cfc's are to be used. No big deal
on the fact that this might be something we simply are encountering
for the first time, but the complete and utter absence of a single
piece of example code or documentation stating how to use this code
correctly is very very very very irritating.
Can anybody, share with me anything about how these CFCs are
to be used correctly. For example. We are using the wizard to
generate an "Active Record CFC" set of cfc's for an example table
contain four fields. We have a data grid that is now populated by
the "getAllAsQuery" function....we would like to implement the
feature of making this dataGrid updateable. We know how to pass
data back and forth and yes we could write our own CFC to do
this...but having it autogenerated is a really neat option...but
the question remains....how does one use them!!!
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi there, what's your name by the way?
What is a VO or DTO, and why would you use it?
This was copy from the Java world, so it's a very OOP principle, basically in the OOP world everything is a class that has methods and properties, and you represent everything with classes, a VO is just that a class that represents an entity in your app. You use it for a few reasons in my opinion:
It allows you to pass strongly typed data between different layers in your app.
It's more verbose, it's a good OOP practice, and also makes debugging and reading you code easier.
It allows easy data type conversion between CF and Flex.
You obviously know how to use the wizards, after you select your table and open the wizard you'll see three different CFC types, if you're using LCDS then select that type if you don't I'll recommend you to go with BEAN/DAO. In Flex Builder you can create a folder link to a system folder, so if you create a folder named MyCFCs and you set this virtual folder to be hold inside c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot every file that you put in this folder will be place in c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot so you don't have to manually copy those files.
In this wizard you'll see CFC folder in there you can select your virtual folder, you'll see below the CFC package name this is extremely important to be set right, what is the CFC package name? Basically it's the same folder structure where your CFCs will be located for instance let's say you're gonna place the files in this folder structure c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot\com\myPersonalDomain\ so your CFC package name will be com.myPersonalDomain.
You'll probably also would like to enable the option: Create an ActionScript value object in addition to CFCs, the folder where you place this file have to mimic the CFCs folder structure so for an instance you'll have to save inside your src folder, inside a folder com, an finally inside a folder myPersonalDomain . src/com/myPersonalDomain, and the AS Package name should be the same as the CFC.
Once you're done and click finish, you'll see for files created, one of the the AS VO , and three CFCs.
yourDataTable.CFC
This is a CFC that creates the VO or DTO in CFC, it has the same properties definition that the AS version has, also the setters and getter for every property.
yourDataTableDAO.CFC
This CFC contains all the code that handles the database access it a could be an insert, update delete or just a read query.
yourDataTableGateway.CFC
This is a bridge between your Flex app and your CFCs, it contains a set of methods commonly use when you access a DB, this CFC invocates the methods in the yourDataTableDAO.cfc and returns an object or an array of objects of yourDataTable.CFC type to Flex.
In Flex what do you have to do in order to use VOs?
Add a reference to yourDataTable.as class
Create a remote object.
Create the event handler(s)
Make a call to the remote object.
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import com.myPersonalDomain;
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
private var myDummyVar:myDataTable;
private function myEventHandler(e:ResultEvent):void{
//do Something
trace(event.result.toString());
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:RemoteObject id="myRO" destination="ColdFusion"
source="com.myPersonalDomain.myDataTableGateway">
<mx:method name="getAll" result="myResultHandler(event)"
fault="Alert.show(event.fault.toString())" >
</mx:RemoteObject>
<mx:Button label="Call CF" click="myRO.getAll()" />
Well I hope this would help you, I'm kinda tired this has been by far the largest post I've written.

• How to convert all white - alpha for vector image?

I'm attempting to make a new font. Currently I've been saving all the png -> vector images that I work with as .AI files, so that I can import them into my font program later, and they open fine in illustrator. The problem is, I usually save my vector images with a white background instead of alpha. Now, I need to replace white with alpha, but I can't find a magic wand in illustrator . Any help?

function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I only knew the most fundamental differences between raster and vector: that raster images are saved in dots while vector images are saved in, at the simpliest, lines.
Not "dots"; pixels. Pixels are simply color values. That's all. Raster programs arrange color values in a rectangular grid of same-size rectangles (usually squares).
Not "lines"; paths. Paths are discrete individual objects. Paths are stacked, independently moved, freely arranged, scaled, filled, stroked, and otherwise manipulated as individual objects.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
But I'd have thought there was a way to quickly delete the white lines
There is no "vector image" with a background. Where there are no objects, there is no "background." If a path is there, regardless of whether it has a white fill, a white stroke, or fill(s) and/or stroke(s) of any other color or no color at all, the path is there and can be deleted. (Again, there is no substitute for learning to use the program from the documentation.)
Technically, paths are mathematically-defined curves. So even a "straight line" is a path, and is technically a curve. The specific kind of mathematically-defined curve used in programs like Illustrator is called a Bezier curve.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I have no idea how hard it is to create a vector image from scratch.
It's not rocket science. Anyone can learn it. But again, you have to learn it. There is no substitute for learning to use the program from the documentation.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I myself am mostly a newbie in both hemispheres of the graphic design world.
It shows. And there's certainly nothing wrong with that. We all started as beginners. I'm not trying to belittle you: I'm offering you sound advice that will serve as a very valuable shortcut to becoming more than a beginner (if you will accept it) without an unnecessary amount of fumbling around with bad practices.
Just don't ever claim to a client or in a job interview to know anything at all about any mainstream general-purpose vector drawing program (of which Illustrator is just one) until you are proficient at drawing Bezier curves. That's prerequisite. It's lesson one in chapter one. Might as well start there. Start at the correct beginning and you'll know all the answers to the questions you have asked in this thread. Your understanding of "background" and things like why a region with no objects is not the same thing as an alpha channel in a raster image will come very early if you just start at the beginning. You've got to learn the lay of the land. Start at the beginning.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
In any case, I use a program called vectormagic that does the work for me pretty well, so you might want to check it out.
Trust me; I'm familiar with it. It's just another autotrace program. I know what it does. I know how "well" it does it. Everything I said in the previous post stands.
Vector drawing programs are not the kind of program you learn by just launching it and poking around. Not if you want to avoid endless confusion and frustration. Asking random questions in an online user forum (in which wrong "answers" are just as common as right answers) everytime you encounter a point of confusion is just as inefficient. Read the documentation.

• Where to locate and how to use the filter thershould to binarized image

Good morning friends. I am using
Labview with VDM and let me know where to locate and how to use the
filter thershould. Also that parameters used to binarized image captured
via webcam and display it in black and white.
Thank you very
much.

Is the image that you are getting a RGB one? Use color plane extraction and then use a binary threshold to convert it into a binary image. You can also directly use a color threshold and convert a rgb (color) image to a binary image.

• Please Help!!! How to use the Hand cursor on an Image !!!!

Hi,
I am sorry for cross posting but nobody seem to know this, i need this as soon as possible.
I have a main Jframe which contains a Jpanel which contains a jscrollpane. THe image is in scrollpane and i would like to use the Hand cursor to move the image up and down the jscrollpane.
Can someone tell me or show me how can i use a hand cursor on an image
I would appreciate if someone can show me a simple example.
THanks in advance.

Well. I would call setCursor with a cursor of type Cursor.HAND_CURSOR or something on the Component where you want the hand. Then you could add a MouseMotionListener to the Component. in mouseDragged() you scroll the scrollpane programmatically according to the MouseEvents getX() and getY().

• How to use icon instead of bitmap for image on button in toolbar?

Hello,
I am trying to use an image that has a transparent background on one of the buttons on our custom toolbar in Adobe Acrobat.
In the past we have been using the following code with Bitmaps to display the image and it has worked perfectly:
======================================================================
AVIcon icon = LoadBitmap(gHINSTANCE, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDB_OPTIONS_LARGE));
toolButton = AVToolButtonNew(ASAtomFromString("IMGR:Options"), icon, true, false);
====================================================================
Background info on the other objects:
V0200_DATA* dataPtr = (V0200_DATA*) windowsData;
gHINSTANCE = dataPtr->hInstance;
Resource File:
IDB__OPTIONS_LARGE BITMAP "Resources\\ImageOptions_Large.bmp"
IDI_ICON1 ICON "Resources\\Image_Icon.ico"
Unfortunately, these bitmaps are not transparent and end up showing the white background instead of the transparent one.
I have tried using Icons and PNGs as my image but I have been unable to get anything to show up. Here is the code I am using to get the AVIcon:
===================================================================
AVIcon icon = LoadImage(gHINSTANCE, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_ICON1), IMAGE_ICON, 0, 0, LR_DEFAULTSIZE);
===================================================================
However, no image appears on the toolbar. I am able to use LoadImage with the bitmap, but I am unable to make it transparent, even when using the LR_LOADTRANSPARENT flag.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,
Ryan

I got it worked with PNG file. I got transparent backgrounds in toolbar and menus.
below is my code,
HRSRC resource = FindResource(gHINSTANCE, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDB_SAVE_21_PNG), L"PNG");
if( resource == NULL )
//Unable to load resource
DWORD resourceSize = SizeofResource(gHINSTANCE, resource);
HGLOBAL glob = LoadResource(gHINSTANCE, resource);
LPVOID resouceArray = LockResource(glob);
ASUns8 *data = (ASUns8*)ASmalloc(resourceSize + 1);
memcpy(data, resouceArray, resourceSize);
AVIconDataRec iconData;
iconData.dataStm = ASMemStmRdOpen(( char *)data, resourceSize);
iconData.eColorFormat = kAVIconColor;
void * iconBundle = AVAppCreateIconBundle6(kAVIconPNG, &iconData, 1);
AVToolButtonNew (ASAtomFromString("PFXDOC:Pfx_DocumentToolSave"),
iconBundle, true, false);
Thanks & Regards

• How to use application builder to generate installation disk without compiling the the support files?

Hello,
What I am trying to do is to use LV application builder generating an installation disk without compiling the support files. I mean:
the support fils like the help files are located on a different directory , for example, installation disk is D drive, help file directory is: D:\Help\..., not compiled in the installation Data set.
So, when the installation disk is running, it only copy this directory file into the destiny directory. Of course, we can write a different bat file to do this. However, beside this method, is there any way, like using LV application builder to do this without writing a batch file. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

For LabVIEW 7.1, this can be done in a few short steps. First, add your help file as a support file in the Application Builder. Then go to the Installer tab, choose to create an installer and click on the Files button at the bottom. From this dialog (shown below), you can specify the destination for each component in your install package. If you have added your help file as a support file, it will show up in the Files in Installation list. Click on your help file to highlight it. You can now choose where to install the file to by specifying an installation destination and a subdirectory. The default subdirectory is called data, but if you want to change that, just type in a new subdirectory name as I have done below:
Hope this helps!

• How do I control the quality of JPEG images?

I've written a program that scales a set of JPEG images down to various dimensions. I'm happy with the speed of execution, but quality of the images could be better. How do I specify the quality of the JPEG images I create? In graphics editors, I'm given the option of controlling the lossy-ness (?) of JPEGs when I save them, either reducing image qualify to shrink the file size or vice versa. How can I do this programmatically?
Thanks

Hi Jhm,
leaving aside the scaling algorithm, to save an arbitrary image with 100% quality you'd use
something like the following code snipet below
regards,
Owen
// Imports
import java.awt.image.*;
import com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.*;
public boolean saveJPEG ( Image yourImage, String filename )
boolean saved = false;
BufferedImage bi = new BufferedImage ( yourImage.getWidth(null),
yourImage.getHeight(null),
BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB );
Graphics2D g2 = bi.createGraphics();
g2.drawImage ( yourImage, null, null );
FileOutputStream out = null;
try
out = new FileOutputStream ( filename );
JPEGImageEncoder encoder = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder ( out );
JPEGEncodeParam param = encoder.getDefaultJPEGEncodeParam ( bi );
param.setQuality ( 1.0f, false ); // 100% high quality setting, no compression
encoder.setJPEGEncodeParam ( param );
encoder.encode ( bi );
out.close();
saved = true;
catch ( Exception ex )
System.out.println ("Error saving JPEG : " + ex.getMessage() );

• How to make Photoshop save Aperture imported JPEG images as JPEGs

Recently, I upgraded from Photoshop CS 5 to CS 5.1.
My point and shoot cameras record in JPEG format. Often, I'll import those photos into Aperture and then tweak them in Photoshop using the Edit in External Editor command. My preferences for the external editor in Aperture were set to 8-bit, Photoshop
With Photoshop CS 5, I would edit the photo and choose Save and the edited photo would be saved back to Aperture as a new version, in a JPEG format.
Now, using Photoshop CS 5.1, when the imported image from Aperture is converted into a PSD file and when I save back to Aperture, I end up with a PSD file.
How can I revert to how it was before? JPEG image in Aperture, opened in external editor Photoshop as a JPEG, edited in Photoshop, then saved back to Aperture as a new version JPEG?
(Though this question is approached in this forum, a solution to my question is never found as each dicussion ends up going off-topic from the original question)

clapperincus wrote:
Any further ideas from anyone who's experienced trying to open a JPEG from Aperture in Photoshop as a JPEG?
Like I said before, you cannot open a jpeg as a jpeg, the file must be decompressed to open in PS or in Aperture, and that has always been the case.
I do not know how it used to work, but I tested and you are correct that with PS 12.1 and with Aperture 3.2.2 a JPEG sent to open in external editor (PS) is opened into your choice of lossless format and then goes back to Aperture in the lossless format you chose.
IMO this is the way it should be, because every save into JPEG loses image data, so such saves should be limited to the final export, in this case when the image actually leaves Aperture. If the file was compressed as a JPEG when leaving PS, decompressed and edited in Aperture, then compressed again to export as JPEG from Aperture, unnecessary additional image data loss would occur.
It is always better to save the application of lossy compression until the very last step in a workflow because other usages (printing, for instance) may occur before applying the lossy compression.

• Why won't FCX use all cores when exporting a file?

Hi folks,
Latest version of FCX and Lion.
I'm trying to export 7 'projects' (or sequences) for archiving then processing for DVD.
Compressor still busts my kahonies so I'm not using it. I'm using Bitvice (far better compression as well).
Anyhoo, when I Share - export media and choose the file, click ok etc..., the file starts.
But my cores are barely operational. It's quite ridiculous. A 1 hour 22 minute ProRes file to 720x480 16:9 widescreen is taking near 23 minutes.
That doesn't seem right. I shouldn't have to beg this software to rip all 24 cores to their max (I have a 12 core 2.66 with 32 GB Ram).
I've been on so many "how-to's" over the year, that my head is spinning so can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong.
It sure seems like a simple thing.
Cheers,
Keebler

Thanks WG.
Of all things Apple that I've used and owned, I've never been able to get Compressor to go full force. Well, I should say with ease and consistency. There have been a few moments of sparkling hope lol
Latest was a long series and tests with Apple FCP team. They recommended a complete rewipe and only installation of Compressor 4 and FCX without installing FCS3. Sounds like something was messed up with QMaster along the way. But that's another story.
You are right about these - already rendered and FCX probably needs to re-render as it outputs.
My irk is that my cores just aren't being used - I'm exporting a file right now and my CPU usage shows
<GULP> 95.57'ish % IDLE!
cheers,
Keebler
