Bring Audio Preview to Artist/Album pages and search results!

Note: This idea references features from the new Discover tab which may not have reached all users yet! If you have any feedback about discover, please head over to this ideas topic.
Summary
One of the most useful features of the new discover tab is the ability to "Preview" recommendations.
I think this feature would be very useful if rolled out to other pages, such as Artist/Album pages, as well as search results so you can easily preview content without interrupting what you are already listening to. Music discovery for me goes far beyond what the Discover tab suggests!
Implementation
The behind the scenes work to make this happen might stretch further than I am imagining, although it the new web based pages such as discover and artist pages run on the same platform, how hard can it be to migrate a feature! :)
Good news for the Spotify UI team is implementing this would require only minor changes, since it can be easily worked into the already available elements, just like on Discover.
For anyone who does know, here is what audio preview looks like in Discover:

Search form and search results page

Hi! I really need some help with my search and search results page. I'm a newbie and am trying to get my site built. My search page will be the most important page and is quite complex. It will have 11 drop down boxes and 8 radio buttons. I have my form set up on the search page. When I try to run it now it returns all results. Because I have so many fields I didn't want to post it all but, here's what my code looks like for my first drop down box:

Thanks for that example, but that is the design based on different technology than mine (ADF BC, and I am using ADF, EJB3/JPA). The link I provided above nowhere presents <methodIterator> nor <methodAction> and these are generated automatically in the page definition file by JDev when you drag-drop collections onto the page. So obviously that manual (online help) does not reflect the internals of current JDev 10.1.3.2 operation. As the matter of fact complete XML schema format seems to be different (although similar to certain extent) than the schema format created by JDev 10.1.3.2

How can an artist show as a search result yet not exist in the artist list?

I'm trying to import music from the My Music folder on my computer. I followed the steps outlined in the iTunes tutorial. When I search for the song, the artist and album show as search results, but the song does not. When I follow the link from the search to the artist, iTunes goes to the artist list, and the one I am looking for is not in that list- where does the song go when I upload it into iTunes? And how can the artist show up in a search result as existing in Music, but not actually be in the artist list?

To make sure that it is not the project files' issue, create a new blank solution, copy the project files to the new solution, clean and rebuild the solution, check the result.

How about debugging it with "Step Into" instead of "Step Over"? Or you could add breakpoints between 234 line to 241 line, after the breakpoint is hit, check the watch window again. How about the result?
In addition, do you check other debugger window like local or others?

Do you mean this: you would select a bunch of links with your mouse, then right-click and choose something like "open all these links in new tabs"?
There are extensions like that. Here are a few examples, but since I don't use them myself, I don't recommend any particular one. You can check the reviews and try the one(s) that sounds good to you:

IWeb 08 : Album pages and Text not showing up anymore

Hey guys,
I work for a local television company and created a page for one of our shows. I have been publishing the website with no problems and then all of a sudden recently my albums pages are not showing the albums or pictures. Click here..

The pictures are on that page when I am editing in iWeb, but not when I publish or a folder or upload it to my website. Does anyone know why this would be or are having similar problems?

I switched in the middle of making this website from iWeb 06 to iWeb 08, but I didn't have these problems at first, so I don't think it was the upgrade.
I did do some things with the domain (copy, save to an outside hard drive, to try to transfer it to another computer) and the problems did start shortly after that. But I didn't really mess with the domain file on my computer, so it shouldn't have created a problem.
Please fill me in ASAP if you have any insight because my boss is just as frustrated as I am!

I get a "The page can not be found" message clicking on both links.
You might try to republish/re-upload the whole page
A. If publishing to .mac go to File=>Publish All. Or try to publish to a folder and open it from there to see if it works.
B. If publishing to a folder: do they work when opening from the folder? If so reupload everything.

Spry xml dataset driven page and search engines

If a page uses Spry xml dataset to present products to a
visitor, what do google and yahoo crawlers see in that page?
I'm asking because i plan to rewrite our products' static
pages using spry xml dataset, and i'd like to ensure crawlers see
the products. I haven't looked much, yet, into this pry capability,
but the products page will most probably be paginated (not sure if
possible in this capability) since there are hundreds of products.
currently, our static html pages generated good conversions
into purchases from google and yahoo searches.
It would be great if there is a real-life website that uses
this spry capability and has their pages appear in those search
engines.

search bot do not read / understand javascript. So they would
not index it.
Its a commen point of failure of the ajax techniques, Spry
has a handy solution for it (spry:content) wich will allow u to
overwrite 'content' if javascript is enabled so and bots will just
see the static page.

Setting Custom Master page in search results page - Publishing site

Hi,
I have a publishing site, in which i have a custom Master page.
However when doing the search in the site, the search results does not show the custom Master page.
Is it possible to set the custom created Master page for the search results page? How to achieve this?

Hi Venkat,
The search page for a publishing site is a file available in the layouts folder (I believe it is the osssearchresults.aspx if you see the address bar). It is used by all web applications and site collections in your farm. So ideally you should not change
it. I mean you can change it to point to your master page but it is bad practice ..
I would instead do the following
1. Create a custom search results web part page and place it in the site collection itself (one of the document libraries)
2. Custom search results is not difficult because all search results pages are made of a set of Out of the box search results web parts. If you add the same webparts to your page as the default search results page, you have effectively created a copy of
it
3. go to site settings --> search settings and change the search results page to your newly created page
4. The newly created page by virtue of its location will automatically use the master page the rest of the site uses.
I could not spend the time to try the above for you but I am sure the above will work.

Search criteria region and search results regions

I have a page where the user can enter some search values into some input boxes. Then once the search button is pressed I want the search results region displayed and not when the page is loaded. Eg I want the search result region to be hidden on page load until the search button is pressed. I though about a hidden item that is initialized to null and set after the search button is pressed.

John - The hidden item's Source Type can be Static Assignment, the Source value should have no value and the Source Used attribute should be "Only...". Now the page will run in one of three ways:
1) when you link to it and you want the search results region to be hidden you pass in the item and a null value (f?p=app:page:session::NO::P1_ITEM: or reset the page in the link: f?p=app:page_session::NO:1 assuming it's page 1)
2) when the page branches back to itself after the search criteria are submitted, the branch passes P1_ITEM:xxxx or something
3) when you branch or link to the page from somewhere else (including for pagination requests) and you want the previous search results to be retained/reused, don't pass anything in the link for P1_ITEM and don't reset the page.

Currently my search configuration is searching everything on a site collection. I have created custom scope for that.
But I would like to remove the search results for list/library views. The search should only show the documents, pages (but not list/library view pages).
Please guide me on this.

Custom List Item Pages in Search Result

Hi there,
We are using SharePoint 2013 and have built a custom web part that displays a series of items from a list. When you click on one of the items, it takes you to a custom page that displays the selected list item, styled with our company branding. This works
perfectly. However when a user performs a search, the search results includes the link to the SharePoint list item, and not the custom branded page. We'd like to have the search results include this custom page, instead of the standard SharePoint dispform.aspx
page. Is there anyway to exclude the dispform.aspx and include our CustomItem.aspx in this search results? If so, how is this possible?
For instance, a standard search returns the result:

Does you custom page have a managed property associated with its location, say 'myURL'? I think you should be able to achieve this by customizing one of the Search Display Templates. There are a couple of things involved here. For Result
Display rendering, Item_Default.html display template will have a "ctx.RenderBody(ctx)" call, in this case calling Item_CommonItem_Body.html template to display each item.
Take a look through Item_CommonItem_Body.html and there should be a place where instead of the OOTB managed property like Path or Url, you could put in your custom managed property to be displayed. It's best to not update the default display templates
but create custom ones and use custom result types with them. In this scenario, you are not touching what's being indexed, but simply changing the UI layer.
Another idea would be to use CEWS (Content Enrichment Web callout) and simply take the existing managed property responsible for printing out the link (like URL or Path), re-write it using some regex or similar logic and output it to the existing managed
property or a new one. You could have a trigger to only do this in specific scenarios to narrow this down, such as only to fire if an input path prefix matches a condition.
I would recommend doing this with Display Templates if possible, since introducing CEWS can have a performance impact on crawls, depending on how many items will need to be touched.

PDF Imbedded Title and Search Results

I am in the process of developing a intranet search and have come up against a problem with PDF files. The embedded title is delivered up as the link in the search results. Most of the PDFs we link to are created outside our department, so the embedded title is meaningless to our users.
Any ideas about how we can change the title? Thanks.

I have never seen anyone request this so no information from there. Also I cannot think of any way of doing it. The only solution might be to prefix topic titles or put the information on the first line of the content. However, that is going to take up space better used letting the user see the initial topic content.

When I have a page of search results, if I right click and choose "open link in new tab" it doesn't work anymore. It churns and then nothing. Or - another page opens ....like an ad for Maxim or something.

wife's profile has virus, tried using Malwarebytes but I think we still have problems. As an aside, the Malwarebytes db won't update

Hi, I am writing a program where the user will key in an ISBN, after the user inputs the number I want to create a thread to query a website like amazon and return the title of the book and name of the author. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this in Java? Are there any libraries available to do something like this

I would suggest you start by seeing what APIs Google and/or Amazon have to offer you. Accessing web content from a program is in many cases, against the terms of service for the site. But many popular sites have special feeds or API resources to let you access content like this.
